I really enjoy small places like this. Checked Yelp for distilleries in Bastrop on my way back from Bone Spirits in Smithville and this place popped up. I have to admit I was a little leary as I was walking around looking for the place tho. It's in a kind of local touristy type small village setup around the county museum by the Colorado River. I am glad I made the effort tho because Copper Shot is EXACTLY the kind of business I like to patronize. There a great couple that owns the place and they are very chill about letting you sample their various products. The guy who is the distiller is very knowledgeable and will give you a tour if you're interested. They have several types of infused shine that the ladies will love, and his white dog has a great flavor all its own. Sit out back with some shine, check out the views of the river, and enjoy. Great place with real moonshine. Don't fall for the liquor store fake shine meme, this is the place you want to go. As real of white lightening as it gets, take it from me who knows yall, you can't even make it yourself this well, it's the real deal. They've also got cocktails that are well designed and they don't short pour them, instead, they mix it just right that you can taste the spirit but not be Fallin over but have something familiar to sip on. We had walked the bridge over the Colorado River right after sunset, spotted it from the bridge, and were drawn to it because of the live music. We ending up really having a wonderful evening. The atmosphere is relaxing with rocking chairs and the quaintness of the area. The staff was great with recommendations and made us feel like we were guests at their home. The entire rustic and charming setting on the edge of downtown along the river gives you a feeling that you have escaped the business of life and can really relax. read more

Okay, I may be bias but I also don't review a place if I don't like it. Copper shot is so fun! First let's talk booze. The drinks are phenomenal. I typically don't like mixed drinks they tend to be too sweet or fruity pa tooty. I like bourbon and soda on ice. I tried two of their mixed cocktails. One was a take on a street car and the other prickly pear lemonade. They were just boozey enough and had a bit of tart to go with the sweet! I really liked them. The band was getting ready to play in front of the still house. There is cornhole, jenga, fire pits 2 tops, bar seating, picnic tables and a unique gorgeous interior. Wood, copper, and stainless it's really a place to see. If you live here be regular you won't regret it. The employees are an excellent reflection of the owners. Genuine and kind! We absolutely love going to Copper Shot because of their incredible dog-friendly atmosphere and drink selection! I was hesitant to try this place at first because I'm not a whiskey fan, but they have so many varieties and drinks that I easily found some whiskey drinks that I sincerely loved. I especially enjoyed the prickly pear Arnold Palmer, apple pie whiskey, and "peach shot". It was also great to have a dog-friendly environment so that we could bring our puppy. There was plenty of outdoor seating, plus a little courtyard with doggie pickup bags super close by. We will always come to places where our pups can join us, too! The bartender was very friendly and made fantastic drink recommendations for the whiskey fans and the not whiskey fans. read more

Had a great experience here and would definitely recommend if you're visiting Bastrop. It has cute small-town atmosphere and had live music while I was there. We didn't get a chance to do the tour, but the lady at the bar was very knowledgeable and let us know a lot of cool tidbits about the place. My wife and I got two of the 2 infusion, 2 liquors flights. Lots of different infusion flavors to choose from, so to each his own. Be careful though, the infusions may taste like a harmless fruity drink, but that's how you wind up waking up on the floor, the alcohol is definitely in there. They are dog friendly and have indoor/outdoor seating. We sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed the rocking chairs while watching some Chive.TV while we sipped. We went on a Sunday, and the special for that day was Bloody Mary's. A nice little touch was that the ingredients that you could choose from to garnish your bloody Mary with came from the nice lady. I think if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the Honey Whiskey, not to be confused with the Honey Shine. read more

Thrilled we decided to stop at a Copper Shot during our road trip! The bartender was helpful and kind and The owner/distiller, Steve, was great to chat with and hear the history behind the property and his passion! He's got an amazing variety of spirits that he creates himself. "The Godfather" drink was perfect for the weather that day (cool and overcast) and we ended up purchasing a bottle of his Pecan Shine Whiskey. Outdoor atmosphere reminds you of a brewery with bar games, plenty of places to sit and enjoy your drink and feel like a regular. We hope to be back soon! read more

Stopped here over spring break since I love whiskey (they do vodka and infusions too). I went with a whiskey flight and they let me pick the four I wanted to try. We went out on this lovely open air patio to sit a spell and try my shots. I came there last week and this time I wanted to try the drink with amaretto. But It was toooo sweet, so I asked the lady if I can choose something else because I didn't like the taste. She took my glass, threw away the "precious" liquid and gave me a regular Honey shine. I thought she won't charge me for the new drink or at least a 50/50, but no. We stopped by on a short visit to the area, and we enjoyed it thoroughly. At copper shot we ordered a flight and got the barrel aged whiskey, the rapid aged whiskey, Texas pecan shine, and honey shine. Then we each got a drink, mine was the prickly pear Arnold Palmer, and his was the Moscow mule with shine. Everything tasted really good. It's cool to be able to see their process and do a bit of sampling. The lovely lady behind the bar answered all of our questions and was super pleasant to talk to. We went to Copper Shot a year ago while visiting family in Bastrop, and were back there again this week. I am not a fan of white dog/white lightning/unaged whiskey, so I won't speak to that, other than to say that Copper Shot makes some very good bloody Mary's with their white lightning. I am a whiskey collector, so I have tasted well over a hundred bourbons and other whiskeys. Copper Shot's aged whiskey is one of my favorites. I like it as well as Garrison Brothers Balmorhea, which has a similar taste profile in my opinion. The Copper Shot is far less expensive. Copper Shot has a rapid aged whiskey too, but I much prefer the regular barrel aged stuff. Friendly bartender and distiller/owner. I don't smoke, but don't skip their cigar lounge. There are some special Copper Shot whiskeys in there that aren't available at the main bar. I am usually disappointed with the products of small craft distilleries, but this one is an exception. read more

It is what it is and that's why we go and enjoy it. Super rude... been a repeat customer for years and always stop between trips to Austin to buy a couple bottles. Dropped in on Labor Day to do the same, was walking up to the door with my family and told they were closing early... ok, fine. Turned around but then thought well I am not staying so maybe they will sell me a bottle. Literally in those 30 seconds to turn around to ask they locked the door, looked at me and ignored me. This was really hyped up to be a great tour...guess people need to get out more. A few flavors of moonshine may be a big deal in a little town like Bastrop, but I've had much better. The little boys working behind the bar didn't have any suggestions when I asked for them and the owners are really full of themselves. Especially the lady with the little teeth.
