Came to visits my sister and bestie in PHX, I found Copper State Tattoos by searching up the best female artist in the area. I've been wanting to get tattoos by a female artist for quite some time. All of my tattoos have been from men and while I love men, I felt like it's time to support women in art communities. I found PJ on their website and loved her old school tattoo style but with a new school twist, I'm not sure what you call that lol I contacted them through the website the night before and asked for appointment basically the next day which I knew was asking a lot, but I took my chances and PJ replied quick and we set up an appointment. It was easy to do. The shop was really cute. It was full of art from the artists and it felt very cozy as you can see in the pictures. The colors were very earthy and warm. I felt very comfortable and relaxed. The Doors were playing in the background and me and my Bestie were ready to go. So we didn't know what we were going to get, but then I got the idea that I wanted some shroomies for me and my Bestie to have as matching tattoos! I wanted her art that I had found on her Instagram of the shroom, I also got a heart in red on my cheek. PJ was very professional very kind, very welcoming and her tattoos are the best. He has done all of my tattoos over the past 7 years, 2 sleeves and a full chest piece. His designs are always amazing and I get so many compliments on my tattoos! If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Felix is absolutely amazing. Both my husband and I love the artwork he has done for us. He really listened to what we wanted in our tattoos and what he has created blew us away. Felix is always friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable and professional. His work is clean, bold and beautifully unique. The studio is comfortable and clean. I am plus sized / non binary and I have never felt so comfortable at a tattoo shop before. The walls are filled with beautiful artwork from all of the staff. All artists are always friendly and hyping each other up over their amazing tattoos. Love the environment each time we come here. Alex is an extremely professional and respectful traditional tattoo artist. He doesn't do this just as a side job to make money, this guy is seriously dedicated and studied this type of work to the point where he went to Japan to be trained properly. This is just a start to a full sleeve and I feel so lucky to have found him. The hubby and I stopped in on a whim... aren't most tats are on a whimp right haha He needed to fix a monstrosity from a drunkin bad choice back in the day, and I needed to get my stamp of completing for my half marathon. Simple work for both of us. These guys were great. Their books looked good, they do a great job with covering old tattoos. They are very clean and have a nice work space. Alex and the guys at CST are awesome! We went when they first opened on a Saturday morning, probably their busiest day, for some "rework" on a tattoo that my daughter had.... She let a friend do it, and it was horrible. Alex got her in and they fixed the bad tattoo right away, a vast improvement!! The shop is super clean and they are all meticulous about sanitation. Everybody is friendly and professional. Although what we had done wasn't in the "creative" range, their traditional style stuff on the walls looks awesome. Over the course of a couple of years, I've spent a lot of time in this shop, working on a traditional Japanese back piece. Each time I come in for work, I'm treated like family by Alex, the owner. He's caring, easy to talk to, receptive to my thoughts regarding the tattoo work we are doing, and is the ultimate professional and artistic talent. The other artists in the shop are also very friendly and awesome. There's always great music playing and good energy flowing throughout. My daughter took me to this studio when I wanted to get my semicolon tattoo. She had made an appointment with Alex and although he was busy when we got there Emma gave me the tattoo I wanted. She has a soft touch and it took no time at all. It was terrific. However, as it healed the bruising didn't go away. I assumed it was my age and the placement on my wrist but after contacting Alex he said to let him look since 2 months is a long time for a bruise. Ge checked it out and confirmed I had tattoo blowout which happens. He offered to fix it free of charge. After meeting with him to discuss idea I him add some color around the semicolon - teal for anxiety awareness, blue for depression awareness, red for my root chakra and purple because when I am an old woman I will wear purple. Love it! Alex was very quick and had a soft touch. The whole experience was great. I love looking at the flash and artwork. Seeing the artists sketching was amazing. Tired of the monster egos and attitudes in many of tattoo shops locally? I was, so I went here. They'd done some work on my friend, and it looked incredible. I just spent the last two days there, as Alex Empty (owner) is doing a very large japanese style back piece on me. He is amazing. The piece looks so good (understatement of the year), and I cannot wait for it to be finished. He's very detail oriented, he even wrote famous japanese artists with questions on seasons and the position of objects in my tattoo, caring about what is accepted and that my tattoo was done properly. He cares about the details, and his passion is definitely in this area. He's well traveled, and has studied it seriously. Japanese style is not the only type he does, but he's damn good at it. I got to know the other artists as well, since I spent so much time there this past weekend. They are all talented. On top of that, good people, good vibes, and they care about their craft. I started getting tattooed by Alex back in 2005, when he was living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Although I stumbled upon him randomly, his creativity, vision, and passion for tattooing kept me returning to him almost exclusively up until he left the Bay Area and returned to Phoenix 5 years ago. I have one full sleeve, a back piece, and numerous smaller tattoos from Alex and I could not be happier with every single one of them.
