Brewery #384 My experience at Copperhead Brewing was a little weird. The place itself has a weird vibe with Life magazine pages all over the walls. I first thought it was wallpaper made to look like Life magazine pages, but some pages seemed to be peeling. I don't mind reading hemorrhoid ads from the 60's while drinking my beer per se, just an observation. The furniture was mismatched like estate sale items picked up from people who wanted to think they were high class in the 1960's. You could probably still smell Lucky Stripes every time you sat on the seat cushions. There was no music playing and there were only 6 or 7 (don't you dare do that 6-7 thing with your hands while reading this!) other people inside. So, I had to listen to this pretentious group talking about opera, the child welfare system and other topics while their noses were up and pinkies were out. There was an older guy on the opposite end of the room that seemed to be loudly mocking them. He thanked me for coming as I was leaving.... was he the owner? LOL. I ordered my standard flight from a very nice lady that seemed to be new. I got 2 IPA's (Mongoose Slayer and Striker IPA) that were solid, a Black Venom stout that was ok and a Belgian Quad (Medusa) that I wasn't fond of. There are no food options, but I assume there are food trucks from time to time. The outdoor area has a few games and tables and a more normal atmosphere. If they had some music to drown out Lilith and Frasier, I'd go back and give them a try. read more

Haven't been here in a while but just trying to call now that they are officially open, but nobody is answering. Trying to find out if their food cart was still there bc that's like the best part of their brewery. Copperhead Brewery is a hidden treasure located in the Conroe area. I always make sure to stop there when I'm visiting my friends in the Conroe area, and I have never once left disappointed. The staff is very friendly and actually care about their customers. Copperhead has plenty of great beers, but their Medusa Belgium Dark is one of my favorite Belgiums of all time. And the great part about visiting the Brewery is all the variations of Medusa they release which included Barrel aged, Cherry, and Black Currant. They also have a great Triple (Athena) and toasty dark Imperial Double Stout (Black Venom).Copperhead has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and is dog friendly which is a huge plus. They also include great bar games such as Jenga and a pool table. The inside has a very hole in the wall local pub feeling, and the outside has your typical brewery feel. The food truck that Copperhead has on location is also great. read more

Loving the vibe here. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about their offerings. The new kitchen was legit! The chips and fish were delicious and malt vinegar just adds to the legitimacy. The pizza was fresh and delicious as well. It is great to see how the selection from this brewery has expanded but that they still have the same quality. read more

This place is pretty low key. It was my 1st visit and everyone was very friendly, even the bar patrons. The bartender offered great recommendations and samples. The place was clean and you can tell they get a lot of "regulars"... There's a pool table and you can opt to sit at the bar or at a table or booth. We sat at a booth and had to go to the counter for beers. It was around lunchtime so I'm uncertain if that had an effect... The bar doesn't serve food but you can order at The Hoppy Kitchen (right outside) and they bring it to you inside. read more

Excellent small brewery (considerably smaller than Southern Star) with a one-on-one tour of the brewery, as well as small tasting samples of the brews available on tap at the bar so you can try before you buy. Plus they have games out on the tables at the booths and a Bobby Boucher foosball table. What's not to like? The personal touch at Copperhead was noticeable from one foot in the door confirming the parking situation outside, going out back to move The Dragon to more ideal parking, and then returning inside for beer and table type games. The bartender let me know the details of the brewery tour (just let her know when I am ready for the tour after downing some suds and she will go out back and rustle up the tour giver) and then coolly allowed small samples as my drinking companion and I decided on beers. Many bartenders roll their eyes or get sassy about samples but not this one. Which was a nice touch that they want you to try their stuff and figure out what YOU like, not what you read about on the internets that other people have liked on untappd, the grindr of beers. The generous samples confirmed mine and the Lieutenant's preferences for our full sized chalices of ordered and paid for beer which the bartender provided swiftly even though she was pretty busy already with other gentlesirs and their orders. The cherry medusa unsurprisingly uses Copperhead's medusa as the base and then kicks it up a notch. It is like Three Philosopher's a bit; but with more cherry and a less chalky mouth coating. In short, one of the best high ABV/low price beers you can get and this big and beautiful brew has the lord's mightiest fruit, cherry, soldiering forth across the wasteland of your tongue and into (muy italics) tu corazón. In two words or less, it is a rejuvenating elixir. It was a strange sensation to have a "private tour" of a brewery. Not because I am a man about town with a mighty fine hat and this was a favour to me and my hat; but just because nobody else in the nearly filled taproom wanted the tour, including my drinking companion. What to heck buddy. Let's learn how this sweet sweet mana of the heavens is made. The tour giver was familiar with their nearby neighbors Southern Star of course. He compared and contrasted. This is a much smaller brewery but size isn't everything, right fellas? I've had several tours of Southern Star because I like walking around buildings with a beer in the tender crook of my elbow and I have never had the same tour guide once. Just like at St A's. I feel like next time I roll through Copperhead Road like John Lee Pettimore the same tour giver is still going to be giving the tour and it will personalized and customized as it was for me to allow you to ask a variety of questions about how this potion of revitalization gets her magick. The bartender in the taproom was pretty honest about the availability of certain beers being rotated and sporadic, as in what was available was available because someone had decided that morning before they opened to tap this keg over that one and it was there until it ran out and then it might be a very long time before we see it again. The tour giver hadn't even known cherry medusa was on tap that day so he may have thought I just had it on the lizard brain, rather than on the brain brain because I had just savoured one or three before the tour began. People who like uncertainty will enjoy the quirky aspect of sporadic/unpredictable availability of certain beers in the taproom, especially the sexier unicorns (like cherry medusa) rather than the flagship types. People who maybe want to come here for a specific beer may have less enthusiasm about the whole thing. Excellent small brewery. Cherry Medusa is a big hit. Time for more foosball, if not more cherry medusa. read more

I stopped in at Hoppy Kitchen next door for some killer pizza and what do I find but an amazing craft brewery I didn't even know existed. After 30 years of beer drinking, with a keen liking for the dark and flavorful, I consider myself experienced enough to say these guys stouts will have your taste buds shuddering with joy. They have a good assortment of IPA, Stouts, and lagers. I started with the Medusa Belgian quad. I'm a big fan of quads and this one is right up there with the mountain dwelling brewing monks themselves. This lightly carbonated beauty is so rich, deep, and flavorful, with a fruity undertone that is not overwhelming. I immediately bought a 4 pack to go. I also tried their King of Terror seasonal Chocolate/Coffee stout which was delicious as well. Give it a swirl in the chalice and watch how it coats the sides. Perfect beer for the colder weather! Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed if you are a beer lover! Don't forget to take a look in the warehouse at the beautiful fermentation vessels. The beer selection is pretty good, lots of high ABV options, I am a huge fan of barley wines but they aren't super common and this place actually had one on tap. The Medusa is quite good. Environment and ambiance reminds me of a DND gathering. The food truck outside was pretty good and it is nice always having an on site food option at a brewery. The whole setup was a little weird though and definitely had that hole in the wall vibe. I would have given this place a solid 4 stars for their beer selection and laid back vibe if it had not been for (I am assuming) the bar manager. Definitely should keep that guy away from the customers. He gives off a negative feeling and is not friendly or welcoming at all. We heard many customers complaining about him to one another and people didn't stick around. I wanted to take my Lab to a pet friendly place on our way home from dog training. We got there at 3 pm. I ordered a beer, which was really good. I also ordered a custom pizza to take home to eat from Hoppy Kitchen, the food truck just outside.They had water for Huck and a lot of fans outside. What a perfect name for a craft brewery, Copperhead! Very cool. Met the brewer and his Dad who was running the bar. Most important thing, very nice IPA. Visiting Copperhead is worth the trip and the first reason I have had, other than jury duty, to visit downtown Conroe. This place is cool and may help resurrect downtown Conroe, which is mostly bail bond storefronts, strip malls and fast food stops. Very relaxed tasting room. Super casual. Crowd was a trippy mix of bikers, locals, brew tasters, yuppies, hipsters and country folk. Very nice IPA. I dig it and will be back. read more

First time here, very friendly place with a variety of activities. A variety of patrons seemed friendly enough although I was shocked that one guy was letting his kid walk all over the pool table. Pool tables are expensive enough and to have to re-felt a table is not cheap. Beer was good, loved the stout. The food truck was exceptional, had pizzas chilli, and grilled cheese - best grilled cheese I've had in ages!! Both food truck and brewery are worth a repeat. Was in The Woodland for the day and wanted to visit a local brewery. Copperhead Brewing popped up in Yelp and after looking at their beer list online we went. The place is set back off the road in what looks like an abandoned auto shop/junk yard but you'll see the kegs and barrels near the parking lot. The tap room was nice and quiet and had some local publicans within. I had the Striker IPA and Mongoose DIPA. Both were very tasty. My wife had the Black Venom Stout and she said it was really good. I would recommend this to anyone who likes locally produced craft beer. read more

Not wishing to fight the traffic back to Houston I looked for a Brewpub. Whenever I have time I find a craft brewer local to wherever I am and check out their offerings. Being a Brit and a ex rugby player I've knocked back a few pints in the last 50 yrs. I only understand a few technical phrases such as "I'll have another" and "Miller lite aka gnats piss'. I stopped off at Copperhead. I was fortunate to talk to Seth the owner and brewmaster. Seth is the ultimate beer fanatic. He grew up experimenting and bottling his own and now he does it professionally. We got talking about beers and how I thought the American craft beer market is the best in the world. I think Americans have taken the art to another level and all in the space of the last 10-15 yrs here in Houston. BUT back home in the UK I could spend many hours drinking several beers and slowly getting tipsy because the beers, particularly the classic bitter style, were not so high in alcohol. So consequently, over here, one has to imbibe carefully. I had 2 beers over the course of two hours. And a great plate of fish and chips cooked to perfection. Three weeks after my visit I am still having withdrawal symptoms of the Belgian ale. I think it was the Athena. It was amazing. This has to be the best example of a Belgian Ale I have ever come across. So clean and tasty. You have to try it and savor the experience. The other I don't remember. It was good but was overshadowed by the Belgian. Before leaving, Seth let me try a little 'King of Terrors' beer. All I can say is it is a work of art. It has a very high alcohol content so I didn't dare drink a proper glass before driving. I asked for a pack to take with me but sadly all the bottles were sold. As soon as he bottles more I shall make the two hour round trip to stock up. And buy a growler of the Belgian. You have a gem of a brewery in Conroe. PLease support it. You won't be sorry. read more

I enjoyed the setup at this brewery as much as I liked the beers - and that statement is intended as a compliment. Inside the tasting room area, they have board games, foosball, a skeleton sitting at one of the booths, and the requisite amount of interesting tasting beers on tap. Outside, they have a ping pong table and giant Jenga. The employees were helpful and personable, and puppies are allowed as well. Sure, they could have more than one shrimpy tv for us degenerate football fans, but that and the location (next to a car graveyard) are the only knocks that come to mind. read more

These people rock. We came up to Conroe for a weekend getaway and wanted to check out the local brewers. Not only did they open up just for us asking, but made great company about it too. And the beer is REALLY GOOD. The beer. It's good. All of them. Not just one. Each one is distinct and has a flavor palette that moves through the taste cycle of nose, mouth, and aftertaste. I honestly have not gotten this good of craft beer in Texas before so consistently, across the spectrum of witbier, IPA, red, Belgian, and so on. Congrats on your new equipment guys! Copperhead is still very much so in the early phases of business, but you wouldn't know it by their product! They have a wide variety of tasty, well-brewed beers to satisfy all of your beer drinkers desires. We started with a flight of wheat beer, IPA, brown ale, and stout. They were actually out of everything else, but those 4 were awesome. It's a nice, laid-back scene, with lots of seating and games both in door and outdoor spaces. They lose 1 star for 1 main reason: I love the Saturday brewery tour 3 beer tokens and a pint glass for X amount of dollars. You can't do that at Copperhead. You can buy a flight or a pint. I'm not sure if they are eventually going to do the semi-standard Saturday beer token deal, I should have asked. Regardless, check it out! Tasty brews, laid back ambiance, what's not to like.
