Straight up great place! We came out first time and dj Pete is the best. Such great hits and vibes with the music choices. The food truck with the wings and hotdogs is perfect and delicious. Located about a quarter mile west of Decon Baldy's off FM 1488, why drive further for another "ice house" experience? Because parking is much easier and there are much more kid-friendly activities. However: 1. Food choices are much more limited at MDI; 2. Drinks way WEAK at MDI. Both icehouses are PAW friendly. Food is great but service is a hit or miss. We love going cause it's a very family friendly environment but sometimes we do not receive any service at all from the waitress's. We have had to go to the bar to get our own drink on multiple ocasiones. Almost seems like waitresses are very selective on who they want to serve. read more

First time at Moonshine watched some college football outside on the giant screen. Great spot for kids and families with corn hole and other games available. Two food trucks currently (Tex Mex and traditional sports bar food). We had burgers, fries, and the loaded mini corn dogs. All were great and I would definitely recommend. read more

I've been in the business LONG enough to know that you can write my drink down for another server. That's called TEAMWORK. Extremely disappointing. I typically love this place but having to wait over an hour to be waited on or even talked to is ridiculous. Granted they do have an option to walk up to the bar but they have servers outside that don't even notice you when you get here. While this seems like it could be a really cool spot, it feels like it's having a bit of an identity crisis right now. It's just hard to tell what they're going for - is it a chill, neighborhood hangout spot or a place you should expect to hear "shots, shots, shots!!" being chanted on a Friday night? I'm just not sure. There is a great outdoor area with games which is great for kids. It was cold when we went, but I could see really enjoying sitting out there when it's nice. The food truck food was surprisingly good, but the menu is pretty limited and would likely get old if I came here often. The beer list is dismal and boring. It's very limited and the options aren't great. Service was OK. Our waitress knew NOTHING about the menu. She didn't know what the rotating or seasonal beers were (and, did not offer to go find out for us) or anything about the other beers on the list. She was on top of things for the first 30 minutes or so, but then I was kept waiting with an empty beer for 20 minutes while she chatted at the bar with six other servers who were all also doing nothing. But, the door guy (I guess that's what he was) at the front was super friendly! I know they just opened, and there are always kinks to work out. I do hope they get them worked out as this could be a super cool place. I just wish they'd kick it up a notch and cater to a slightly more mature audience (e.g. expand the beer list, add a few decent wines, maybe include a guest food truck or two to switch up the food, train the staff a bit better (and, maybe find people who at least seem to be excited about working there)). Of course, these are all my preferences, and I guess this place didn't open just for me. Lol! So i truly have mixed reviews. I'm not sure what they're going for. Is it meant to be more for families or is it meant to be a true bar. Because right now it's trying to be both which doesn't mix well. If you want to be more family oriented don't be such a "bar". If you're bringing the little ones Except there could be wild adults drinking shots (like we were) and not be offended by what people say or do while drinking. People going for the bar atmosphere are going to drink, some... a lot, curse and get wild so be sure you're cool with that. Remember. It IS definitely a bar. Nice, big drink menu! Even at lunch it could be wild but probably better off than evenings. For me going to a bar means letting your hair down not worrying about what people (kids) may hear. But it's Very family oriented outside in the picnic table area because of the games and the kiddie candy food truck. They don't serve their own food therefore you rely on the food trucks. Crawfish was good but I think expensive. The burger/hotdog truck is Very good. But expect 45 minutes or more when the place is packed. That's not good when drinking humans need to eat. I almost left by the time my hotdog was ready. I was drinking and needed to eat so I got a headache. I should have eaten pizza with the others as you can go to brothers pizza and bring that in. But it's the only outside food you can bring. Except for a birthday cake so I was happy about that. So you're limited on food. For times it's not busy you're fine. But beware it gets packed! So if you want to eat you better plan ahead and bring brothers pizza or order burgers etc from the food truck when you get there. They do play good music and it gets loud as it gets later. Another "bar" attribute not "family time" They also have bands which is great. If you're looking for "bar", you got it... but with kids....everywhere. It's confusing. I mean it's in the name. "moonshine". Probably not my first choice when looking for family friendly. But it looks like a play ground/dog park when you walk in. So bottom line if you are going as a family expect a Bar, if going to party at a bar expect a playground full of kids. And nobody get upset when it doesn't fit your expectations of either. But food was good when we got it. And. Drinks are really good. Music/Bands great. Dirty looks from people because you're having a good adult time at a "bar", not so good. Having to constantly clear your own tables, unacceptable. We had a decent size birthday party. We had 3 big tables and lots of partying, 14-17 people at different times. Half the time we went to the bar to order drinks and I was carrying glassware back there every 30 minutes. Glasses just piled up. I hardly saw our server. It took me a bit to know who she was because I never saw her. I should know her name. But I don't remember. Not because of drinking, because I never saw her. And, we were there from 1 until after 9! We should have been on a name to name basis. I figured we'd have a server constantly checking on us with the amount of money we were spending but that wasn't the case. (Ending up totaling Over $600, not including the shots some friends were buying, easily another $200) One of the bartenders even mentioned something about it. She told me I should be getting tips from them because of how often she saw me bringing loads of glasses. They were slammed busy but I saw a lot of servers working. No excuse. I really want to go back when we aren't having a big party and see how I feel about it, I will order some food early and sit as far from the playground as possible. read more

A group of us went to Moonshine Deck Icehouse in Magnolia last evening. Although we didn't eat from the food trucks what I spied from others' orders looked good. Moonshine Deck is a cool place with a relaxed vibe. We sat in the bar area and the drinks were good and the servers even better. They also have lots of staff so you don't have much of a wait for service. In other reviews, several folks complained about the rampage of kids in the open areas but we weren't out there so I can't speak to that (21+ after 9 pm). The one con for us is it is too far from Montgomery (almost 15 miles); we prefer closer-to-home venues. We'll probably go again but it won't be a place we visit often. read more

Been there before it was good (little food choices) great music. Today I called asking for a reservation for 5- my son had surgery this week and is ready to get out and I cant have him standing to long so I was preparing. I was told no. I was prepared to pay for a reservation but wasn't given that option either. I did explain the concern they might be busy and just trying to assure we were not standing and the manager stated that's their busiest time so he wouldn't take reservations. I hate to hear that- there are several bar/ clubs/ piano bars we can make reservations at for free but we really wanted to show him Moonshine. Thanks anyway!! read more

A group of our friends gathered for a happy hour. The waitress was attentive and kept the drinks coming along with cleaning the table from empty glasses. The DJ was great and they had Rock and Roll Bingo going on which was fun and engaging. The atmosphere is really good for what it is, an indoor/outdoor adult ice house/bar! There is a lot of seating, lighting, heat as needed and fans as needed (more info come summer). Everyone that worked there was friendly and accommodating. Two Strong Negatives: 1. The drinks during happy hour and beyond were like water. I ordered a mule and it tasted like water and ginger beer. A friend ordered a margarita and it was like solid mix and no tequila. So I think the bartender needs to even out their pours a little better. 2. If you want to order food, you have to scan a QR code, order from the menu, pay online and walk yourself up to the food truck to get your food. During your ordering and paying process, it asks how much you'd like to tip. So...what is the tip for? Cooking my food? Doing what you're there to do and making money as you do it? I don't like the serve yourself world we live in these days. When you first arrive and the server comes to your table, they will ask you for a card to start a tab and at the end you tip her as well. This is fine but IF I was tipping on the quality of the drinks, it would be zero dollars and zero cents. All in all, I think there needs to be a little tweaking to this venue. Aesthetically it's great! The look, the music, the lighting, the DJ, atmosphere and all the things there are to do, sit and enjoy. I am not a fan of food trucks and this one was not delicious or great...which is why I'm not a fan. Just mediocre and my meat wasn't cooked as ordered or even all the way through. Others in my party felt the same about the drinks and food. One last point, neither negative or positive: We were told kids were to be off-site after 7pm.
