It was a weekday after work. I went to my homegirl's house because I missed her birthday I offered to take her out someplace nice. She said no way man and immediately said we were going to this sandwich shop. This was the only thing she wanted. So we were gonna veg out on her couch. Have a couple cocktails and whatever else and watch something on TV. And her new couch is the bees knees. For me, the sandwich was perfect. The bread was beautiful and crusty. I was afraid it was going to be toasted and too crusty, and I'd be fighting to bite it and my sandwich guts spilling out while cutting up my gums and the roof of my mouth like it's Captain crunch or something.. BUT NO! It was PERFECT to bite through. They load you up with the meat they're not stingy. And the sauces... BABY! The aïoli was fantastic. My only beef is that horseradish aioli needed a little bit more of a kick, but that's a personal problem. My friend got the chicken Caesar and I see why it's popular. It is so garlicky and delicious. I already have plans on what I'm gonna get next time I go and I don't live close so it's gonna take a special trip and I intend to make it.

I'd post a picture, but apparently my wife and I decided photography was less important than eating it. We absolutely demolished it before either of us thought, "Hey, we should take a picture." Even better, one sandwich was plenty for both of us. Generous portion, incredible flavor, and every bite was worth whatever guilt I was supposed to feel afterward. Next visit, I'm going after the steak sandwich. If it's even half as good as this one, I may have just found my new favorite sandwich spot. 10/10 -- would happily skip the diet again.

We had half a sandwich each for leftovers the next day, and shared the leftover chips, since I finished off my salad the night before. No one in the deli when I arrived and still wasted 20 minutes waiting for the worst Reuben I've ever had in my life. The meat was tough and cut too thick. I literally had to pull a bite off the sandwich. The bread was barely toasted and the whole sandwich was akin to prison food. The side of potato salad was just as bad having ZERO seasoning. I don't know what's up with Richmond consistently giving rave reviews for substandard, and in-this-case inedible, food, but I'll not join that chorus. Authentic Deli? Just straight sweet and occasionally some chocolate. The potato salad was passable, though a lot of the potatoes were crunchy. That might just be a preference thing on my part. I don't like the potatoes to be crunchy in my potato salad Honestly, the whole thing came off as lazy and ordinary. The only good things I'll say is that they use very fresh ingredients. It's obvious they care about freshness. We were very pleased by how good the lettuce and apples were on our different sandwiches. The lemon square was decent as well. Good shortbread crust. But honestly? I don't know who they think they are, charging nearly $30 for two boxed lunches for something that wasn't worth $10 together. If you need boxed lunches there are better options out there at lower prices. Miss this place.

Pricing and specials weren't clear, so I found myself guessing instead of just confidently ordering. I was actually glad to see they had just started taking cards, that was a nice upgrade and made things easier. I went with a half Italian and enjoyed it, but for the price it left me wondering what the whole would have cost and whether it would've been the better move. I could have asked, but it just feels odd not having that kind of info clearly laid out these days. They also forgot my drink, and while they gave it to me when I came back, there wasn't any acknowledgment or apology. Not a huge deal, just added to the overall slightly off experience. There's definitely potential here with the food and the vibe, but the ordering process and communication could use some tightening up.
