    Magic Mediterranean Magic Sandwich
    Melanie C.

Small but mighty. Despite there being a line, it moved very quickly. The sandwiches were great. It's a little pricey and doesn't include a side BUT they are great sandwiches and I love that they avoid seed oils and MSG. Definitely will be back.

Will certainly stop in here again on my next trip to Richmond. Very cozy neighborhood deli with friendly staff. I tried out the industrial which did not disappoint and the potato salad which I really enjoyed. Also, ordered was the spaghetti in meatballs, which was a good size but the sauce looked watery and I personally wouldn't get. I can't recall what the third sandwich was called but was also super tasty.

So glad to have had an opportunity to stop in here. In business for over 42 years, they know what they are doing. Their Mediterranean sandwich and pesto pasta are absolutely amazing! Don't miss out on having a crème brûlée, especially the ones with fruit compote on top, as they are life-changing. Warning; this is an historic building, so the bathrooms were not exactly ADA compliant .

This place is amazing!! I was looking for a good local deli in the area for lunch and these folks did not disappoint. Wow!! Everything looked so good. The staff here was very kind and helpful and the store so cute and quaint. The vibe here is warm and welcoming. My Italian sandwich was simply fantastic! One of the best I've ever had! Thanks so much for feeding a weary traveler and your kindness.

Cheese Colombo & Pesto Pasta Salad

One of a kind spot. I know now why it's been a 40+ year staple in Richmond. Old-style reliable deli that doesn't seem like it has missed a beat since it first opened. Truly never had anything like the Cheese Colombo - think the cheese-equivalent of burnt ends - but in a sandwich?! Like how cool is that. So incredibly crispy with the most delectable of fillings (i.e. peppers) that gave such a surprising counter-taste to the rest of the ingredients... seriously, it was just incredible. Every bite took me on a trip. Pesto pasta salad was solid too - reminds me of the side dishes my family used to take home in bulk from our local deli back in Cleveland. Service was quick and respectable. Will be going here many many more times over the next few years - I am sure of it.

Great customer service and great food. The pesto pasta was a tiny bit dry but the mushroom cheesesteak was to die for ! My mom's club sandwich was amazing she usually doesn't like anything.

Came in per recommendation of a friend. The shop is very small but has its own personal charm and style that I found very appealing. They have a laaaarge menu with a variety of sandwiches for all diets so I would say they're quite accommodating. I'll be honest... I can't remember what we had but it was all so delicious, I only managed to remember to het pictures after we had all eaten a hefty portion of our meals! The meats taste fresh, with great balance in flavors! Their service is fast. Staff is very welcoming, very kind. It's a great place to get things on the go, but if you're feel like sitting down, would be mindful it's not great for a large party. Maybe just with a significant other, a friend or two.

We had a taste for sandwiches so we decided to check out Coppola's Deli located in Carytown and is a Richmond institution since 1982. I cannot believe nobody has ever told me about this place. We approached the counter not knowing what we wanted and the cashier was very patient with us. He offered some popular suggestions. The service was great and there's a small eat in area or outside seating if you can't wait to eat it at home. I settled on the Industrial made hot which is a traditional Italian Hero and it was the best damn Italian I've ever had in my life! The bread was everything! It took me way too long to discover this and I'm pretty sure I'll become a regular now. And if you are a RVA native and haven't been. Shame on you haha! Go check them out y'all and get sandwich high like we did LOL.

Been looking for a great Italian sub in Richmond ever since one of my favorites closed. I've been wanting to try Coppola's so I stopped by to pick up lunch on a Sunday. It feels very much like a small deli in NYC which is cool and unique in Richmond. I was surprised by the number of tables inside too! It was busy but also not impossible to find somewhere to sit or stand while waiting for my food. The staff was super friendly and willing to give recommendations! I got the industrial which is their #1 sandwich, definitely like an Italian. It was packed with flavor and I liked how thin the sub roll was so I tasted all the ingredients. It was pretty messy and greasy though which surprised me. The fact that it was open faced definitely made it messier. Not the most memorable sandwich to me but I did like it! If you like Bernie's Subs in the west end of RVA then this is a great place to try too!! The feel of the restaurant was my favorite part though so I would go back and try something else.

Just moved to Richmond and decided to explore the Carytown neighborhood today. While walking around, I noticed Coppola's Deli and decided to give it a try. I opted for the Industrial to go. While I enjoyed the sandwich, I think it would have been better eaten hot as the bread was a bit soggy from the ingredients by the time I ate it. I will definitely give this place another shot when I have more time to sit and eat there.

Not much flavor. Kids chicken strips were a chicken patty that was overcooked and cut up. Also came out lukewarm at best. The Rueben was soggy and had about three slices of meat on it. Very little sauce on the sandwich no and was charged for extra when I asked for more. Added the Parmesan truffle fries which were powered Parmesan with some truffle oil sprinkled on top. Again all lukewarm. The Timberwolf burger had maybe two jalapeño's on it and the onions were burnt. The regular burgers and kids are the same size. Housemade pickles were soggy and the cucumber skins were tough. The quality of food from when we had eaten here a couple years ago was subpar in comparison. If you are going to charge for upscale items then they need to be upscale in the quality of what you are serving. Will not be back.

Our server was Braxton, a delightful young lady. She was witty and a diligent server and all the things...and she did not steer us wrong when it came to the food. My husband and I both had a taste for ordering an Italian sub and Braxton said we would not be sorry if we ordered it, and we were not. I was literally moaning with almost every bite. I am a potato salad connoisseur. I will not eat it unless it is freshly made. I don't do any of the grocery store type of potato salads. (Gross!) I asked Braxton about it and she said that in general, she doesn't even like potato salad, but at this restaurant, she absolutely loves it and highly recommends it. Knowing it is freshly made on site, plus her recommendation, I decided to try it. Oh my word! This potato salad is straight from the portals of heaven. Sooooooo good. This might not seem like a big deal, but it's a very big deal to me. I like freshly brewed tea. Nothing bottled. Nothing out of a soda machine. (Disgusting!) I asked Braxton if the tea was actually brewed there and she said yes. Tea is not the same everywhere. Sometimes it's so weak, you don't even realize it's tea. Not here! It was perfect. This makes a huge difference to me as when my beverage is perfect, I enjoy my meal a lot more. The entire meal was top notch. The service was absolutely excellent. We loved having Braxton and would ask for her again. A DJ was setting up as we were eating. We learned that they have karaoke and trivia nights earlier in the week as well as dance nights on the weekends. My husband and I mentioned that we would definitely come back and bring friends. Two people got tenders and three of us got sandwiches. The OG sandwich was very good, just messy! I ended up using a fork and knife bc it got too messy. The Mac and cheese was made with pimento cheese and was very good. My friend who got the fried green tomatoes said they were delicious and filling. Lots of goodies on top. We walked in to find the staff bustling, cooking, and prepping orders, and the smell of some delicious fried chicken in the air. I saw the kiosks and was not too thrilled with the Wawa experience, but we gave it a shot anyway, since fried chicken is one of our favorites. The process was simple and allowed us to add or remove anything we could want, so that was nice. While walking to find a seat, we saw a person panhandling in the dining area, but the staff promptly removed him from the premises. I ordered us the Pimento Cheese Balls for an appetizer, and I chose the Fried Chicken and French Toast as my entree because I always try the "chicken and waffles" at every establishment that offers it. My partner ordered the OG Chicken Sandwich without tomato, and it came with crinkle-cut fries. It was about $40. The chef proclaimed our order was ready in quick succession, maybe three orders behind the guests before us. We waited about ten minutes, maybe fifteen at most. We picked up the orders from the counter, and there was a mix-up on the syrup, but the chef promptly rectified the situation. He was a no-nonsense kind of guy; straight to the point. He seemed firm, yet kind. It was clear the day had been a busy one; he even told us as much, which was great to hear (busy = fantastic food). The French toast squares looked like rye or pumpernickel, and they emitted a sweet aroma, a delightful hit of cinnamon and brown sugar. I drizzled the caramel syrup on my chicken and toast, sliced a piece, and paired a bite of chicken with the toast. I closed my eyes to savor the flavors: the toast was crunchy and almost gooey (yet, not overly so), the chicken was crunchy, the sweet cinnamon-y flavors from the toast, the caramel from the syrup, and the tender, moist chicken were a match made in culinary art. I cannot sufficiently describe the French toast in a way that would do it justice; it was crunchy and semi-gooey, and all scrumptious. I can only say it was the single best French toast that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Next, I tried the fried pimento cheese balls. Oh my. If you like mozzarella sticks, try these. I adored them: elevated fried cheese, for real. My partner enjoyed her sandwich as well; she ate everything except some of her fries. I saved half of my chicken and toast for today because I am like a treasure golem when it comes to delicious leftovers. I am going to air-fry the chicken and skillet-heat the toast back to its original goodness. I told the cooks that that was the best French toast that I have ever had, and I mean it. Do yourself a favor and try it if you're into French toast. This one is the GOAT. Side note: I spoke with the head chef outside, and he is from another branch (possibly Henrico?) to whip this location back into shape. Two words: "Nailed it."

The deli itself is great, and makes a lot of awesome sandwiches for decent prices. As I said, I don't like the weird upcharges for certain ingredients, but so be it. It makes the prices of a sandwich soar from decent to ridiculous. The sandwiches aren't altogether authentic Italian NY-NJ style, but they are very good. I loved the parts of it that I had fresh, however when I had the rest of the sandwich a little later it had gotten extremely squidgy and soggy because they use a regular loaf of bread rather than anythng hard or Italian. Again, makes it less authentic but still very tasty. Despite these remarks, I haven't had a sandwich this good in the Richmond area before, so you should give it a try. And if it were Niche Produce, then they'd only sell unusual and hard to get hipster vegetables and sandwiches. Whereas if it wer Nix Produce, it would close down soon. And if it were Knickers Produce then I would have torn them down a lot more quickly and intensely than I did in this review.
