My friend and I had just created a list to go venture through the restaurants of Cary town and this was the first stop to hit up. I'm so glad that we did because I have clearly been missing out! They have a great selection of sandwiches to choose from for their lunch specials. I decided on their Grilled Smoke Chicken sandwich and I have no regrets! The service and service were both quick and the presentation was amazing! It was Instapic gorgeous haha. The taste was delicious and I will definitely be coming back here for more! The bread is super fresh and has just the right chew. While Coppola's cannoli are delish, my favorite are the Italian Oreos: 2 Pizzelle cookies filled with cannoli cream and chocolate chips. They also have great boxed lunches! My husband and I like to order our boxed lunches (with dessert of course) online for pick-up, then take our lunches to enjoy picnic-style in the Japanese Garden at Maymont. Great little corner deli, however, I was not aware the deli meats were cooked on a flat top grill. This, I'm my opinion, drastically changes the flavor of cured meats. And not for the good. I'm usually not a sandwich/deli person so I can't really compare it to other establishments, but I'm a big fan of Coppola's! I've had the Industrial which is their Italian sandwich. I got it "hot" and I loved the grilled onions, veggies, and the oil on it. Just yummy! Again, I'm usually not much of a sandwich fan. Just the right size too, about 8 inches? Also tried the Cheese Columbo with eggplant and that was also really good as others have mentioned. The cheese crunch, so yum. But I came that day for the Industrial and it satisfied. I was hoping they would mix italian sodas there, but they are in actual bottles/cans. Some seating hidden in the back, a few tables in the front and outdoor seating. We were working outside today because it was so warm for December and we were ready for lunch. My dad suggested McDonalds for something quick. I said no way and looked up the menu for Coppola's. I ordered online and when I got there, there was a parking place out front and it was ready. I got the Fresh Mozzarella Sandwich. It is always so good! The bread is perfect. And everything is so fresh and plenty of it. My dad got the Grilled Smoked Turkey. I know when food is good because he moans when he eats it. It was good! His wife got the Mediterranean Magic Sandwich. She said it was delicious. The salt and pepper chips and root beers made it even better. In a great location! Good menu options. Fast and friendly service. I got the Reuben, which is one of my favorite sandwiches. Coppola's Reuben is ok. The bread was sliced like store bought bread so it was very thin and fell apart with all the juices from the meat and sauce. The bread also became soggy. I ordered my sandwich to go but ate it right away in the car on my way to running errands. My sandwich was a 3 stars but the location, service, and menu options are a 5, so I gave them an overall 4 stars. Probably won't go back. It's worth one trip. read more

Coppola's Deli is an amazing no frills deli located in the booming part of Carytown. It's a great spot to come for a quick bite before a movie at the Byrd. There are plenty of vegetarian and meat options of subs, salads, pastas, AND they have cannolis! I repeat - THEY HAVE CANNOLIS! I ordered the Italian sub and my husband ordered the meatball sub and they were both delicious! There is plenty of seating inside and usually the have a table of two outside if it's nice. I read several of the reviews on Coppola's Deli and from this, I was anxious and looking forward in trying their Deli Sandwiches and also I wanted to see if they had the Richmond Original Sandwich, "The Sailor". They did, however this time I decided to order the South Bronx Club Sandwich. I was debating on The Sailor or Club. Since I had a Sailor the previous week at a different Restaurant, I decided to go for the Club as I really enjoy Club Sandwiches. So I asked the young man behind the counter about the sandwich and he said it was really good and huge.... Just what I wanted to hear... :-) I went to a table and he brought over my Fountain Coke and while I was waiting, I was enjoying the atmosphere in the place as it is a very little quaint place on the Corner of of Colonial and W. Cary in Carytown. When the server brought out my sandwich I asked him about my side dish as all it had on the plate was a small dill pickle... he said sides are extra in cost. I was surprise because in other Deli's when you pay $8. for a sandwich, at least you get a side or some chips.... I than looked at my sandwich and could not believe in how small it was for a "Club Sandwich". When I think of a Club Sandwich, I think of lots of meat and whatever it takes to make the club but it seemed this club was ALL Rye bread. When I took a bite into the sandwich, I realized they had heated the sandwich which was not explained to me. I wanted a cold Club sandwich which is usually not cooked except for the bread as it is toasted.... So, with the Sauerkraut, Pastrami and melted Swiss Cheese... I had nothing more than just a Reuben Sandwich with an extra slice of Rye toast. In addition, they said their special sauce was their own, however it tasted like the usually Thousand Island which they put on a Reuben.... I felt there was very little Sauerkraut, including meat on the Sandwich. I feel a Deli who is charging $7.99 for a sandwich, should give you good value for your dollar. This was not a good value I felt.... I felt like I was eating mostly Rye Toasted Bread. In addition, it had no side dish. Also, the size of the sandwich was small in size for what you paid and what a Club Sandwich should look like. So, I am giving it 3 stars on Poor sandwich and NO side. The person who took my order should have mention, "Do you want a side"? This was another deduction on the Star rating.... I DID enjoy my Fountain Coke and I posted my photos on Yelp. In addition, I will return as I want to try The Sailor and I DO expect High Expectation on this as they MUST take Pride in making this Sandwich.... if they do a great job on the Sailor, I will consider a better rating.... :-( read more

Coppola's is a truly great deli! The flavors on their sandwiches hit every note--sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. I had the steak bomb and it was excellent! It has steak along with some porky cured meat that added some nice saltiness. There was a spicy, bitter mustard; hot and sweet pickled peppers; and everything came together wonderfully. The only downside for me is that with all of that filling, it would've really been better with either a toasted bread or a firmer bread to stand up to the filling. Aside from that, sandwich prices are fair, what you would expect for a place like this. The drinks, however, were quite pricey, especially considering that they even sell kid-sized juices boxes. Cans of soda are $2. The service is atrocious. That little hipster brat at the counter is going to make someone wring her neck with that horrible attitude of hers. The heat level in the deli is a big problem. When the deli was full, it was making me feel a bit lightheaded. Air doesn't really circulate much at all when they are busy, and I'm pretty sure that all they have is a fan, no A/C. It was seriously hot as slavery in there! The sandwich was awesome and very memorable, so I am certain that I will return. Take that from someone who doesn't eat deli meat. Check this place out and you won't regret it! You'll think you're in a deli up North somewhere. read more

Still love Coppola's, but yesterday was a day to test a loyal customer and two new ones. Took two friends out to lunch. Not only did my sandwich come out with a hair in it (which I sent back immediately), but I think they also forgot about our cheesecake. We had to remind them, and when it came out, mine was broken in half with the two pieces piled on top of each other. The guy told me, "It tastes the same." Sure it does, but if presentation doesn't matter to you, then you shouldn't be in the restaurant business. The situation reminded me of the scene in the movie CHEF where the kid over-grills the bread and is about to serve it to the customer when his father tells him never compromise your product because that inferior product is what the customer will remember (and subsequently tell the world on Yelp) -- a lesson the kid never forgot. In short, don't serve broken cheesecake. And don't give the customer anything less than your best. I have no idea what happened with the hair in my sandwich. I doubt they made me a fresh one. Probably just removed it. Sigh. read more

Went here for my first time today. It was Mother's day crazy! Everyone wanted to eat here, and after finishing my meal I could see why! One of the most authentic deli's around. We stopped in here for lunch on our drive back to NoVa. It's a great location on the corner however parking on the street can be a challenge. I had the Ruben as did Dora and Ben had the smoked turkey. Dora and I were both sort of middle of the road where as been was quite pleased with his choice. We shared the redskin potato salad which was better than average. The bath room is two flights of stairs down and there's only one. This business has been in this location over 30 years.
