My wife and I were looking for a special occasion-type dinner, even though we didn't have one pending...Anyway, we are both francophiles, having both lived in France for a year (separate adventures - before we met). We both love French culture, and French cuisine, and the way it is presented and prepared. Coquette did not disappoint on either dimension. The food was delicious, meticulously prepared. Onion soup was just right, as was a cold shrimp appetizer. Scallops for main course were exquisite - done just right, beautiful presentation. Portions were just right, no doggie-bag needed, but fully satisfied when we left. The service was professional, just what you would expect in an authentically French restaurant. Prices were more than reasonable for the quality. Coquette does it right. Highly recommended, we'll be back many times! From the moment we arrived, the hosts made us feel genuinely welcome, and every interaction throughout the evening was warm, friendly, and attentive. Don't let the location fool you - despite being in the middle of bustling Uptown Charlotte, Coquette feels like a cozy, delicious escape. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between elegant and comfortable, making it the ideal place to celebrate a special occasion. Our server, Francesca, was phenomenal. She was knowledgeable, personable, and somehow always there exactly when we needed her without ever making us feel rushed. To help celebrate my birthday, she surprised us with a complimentary glass of champagne for a toast - a thoughtful touch that made an already special evening even more memorable. We started with the charcuterie board and the foie gras crostini, and both were incredible. The charcuterie was beautifully curated with delicious cheeses, prosciutto, olives, cornichons, and thoughtful accompaniments. The foie gras was rich, buttery, and perfectly paired with caramelized onions on crisp crostini. My Black Rose cocktail was one of the best cocktails I've had in a long time. The combination of gin, thyme, blackberry, and botanicals was perfectly balanced - complex, flavorful, and refreshingly not overly sweet. We also enjoyed a bottle of Bezel Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles by the Cakebread family, and wow... what a fantastic wine. It paired beautifully with dinner. For our entrées, Shane had the perfectly cooked duck confit, served over a pesto of summer squash and eggplant that complemented the duck beautifully. He also enjoyed a side of garlic butter mushrooms... all by himself, because mushrooms and I have a lifelong disagreement. I had the lamb frites with eggplant caviar and eggplant fries - absolutely phenomenal. Everything was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. And yes... I actually ate a vegetable. Of course, we couldn't pass up dessert (we had to finish the wine, after all ). Shane ordered the apple tarte Tatin, which was absolutely fabulous. The apples were exactly what they should be - the star of the dish - and somehow made the buttery pastry feel almost guilt-free. I had the chocolate pot de crème... Magic. Rich, silky, decadent, and the perfect ending to an incredible birthday dinner. From the food and cocktails to the wine, service, and atmosphere, Coquette exceeded every expectation. I really wanted to like Coquette, but this experience completely changed my opinion of the restaurant. After dining here, I discovered that the amount ultimately charged to my credit card was higher than the total I authorized on my signed receipt. Thankfully, I kept the receipt and have documentation showing exactly what I approved. For a restaurant this expensive, this is absolutely unacceptable. You're already paying premium prices, and the last thing a customer should have to worry about is going home, checking their credit card statement, and discovering that their charge doesn't match what they signed for. Regardless of what anyone thinks a customer should or shouldn't leave as a tip, the amount written and authorized by the customer is the amount that should be charged. Period. A restaurant does not get to decide afterward that it should be something different. What makes this even worse is the sheer inconvenience. Now I have to keep documentation, contact my credit card company, explain the discrepancy, and deal with getting an overcharge corrected. Going out for dinner shouldn't create homework afterward. I don't know whether this happened because of an employee error, a mistake entering the receipt, or something else, so I'm not going to speculate. But I do know that I was charged more than I authorized, and I have the receipt to prove it. If you decide to eat here, keep your receipt, take a picture of it, and check your credit card statement afterward. Personally, having to worry about that completely defeats the purpose of going to an upscale restaurant, and I wouldn't return after this experience. read more

We had a nice dinner at Coquette and tried a little bit of everything, oysters, branzino, lamb, egg plant fries, mashed potatoes, and the Potato Croquettes. All solid, but the Brussels sprout salad was easily the star of the night. It was flavorful, and perfectly balanced, it was the one dish that really stood out and the reason I'd come back. The fried chicken sandwich is an absolute must. Order the le burger with fried eggs and hollandaise sauce. It becomes more of a fork and knife burger, but it is delicious. The pommes frites are a perfect accompaniment to the sandwiches, as they are crispy, well seasoned and topped with dill. Ask for the garlic aioli, as they do not serve ketchup. This was a really fun spot to have lunch! I've heard about Coquette of course, but I so rarely come Uptown to dine anymore. This place seems like a great addition to the area. I met a friend for a lunch and yap and I was immediately impressed by this place when I walked in. It's beautiful and so wonderfully appointed!! It wasn't very busy for a Saturday afternoon, which I was happy about. I was seated immediately and ordered the salade aux Choux de bruxelles et Lardons. (Felt fancy just typing that lol). It was recommended by my server and it did not disappoint. This was the perfect blending of greens and had a lovely fried egg in the middle. Have been a couple times now and really enjoyed the food in the service on both visits. Before I get to the food, I'll call out that between the five different people I have visited with, quite a few cocktails were consumed and every one was top notch. The food is great too and with how the menu is constructed it's pretty easy to try quite a few things. I got the sweetbreads on the most recent visit and while my wife and her sister looked at me strangely once they figured out what those were all I can say is they were delicious. The French onion soup is interesting in that it's covered in a pastry versus a cheese top, but the cheese is there in melty chunks inside the soup, and the soup itself is quite tasty. It's interesting to see two French restaurants just a couple blocks from each other but on this night, both were packed to the gills so my best wishes go to both of them! read more

A perfect girls night dinner before a show at the Knight Theater. The space is gorgeous. We were warmly greeted and seated at a 2 person table and then our server Lanie C greeted us. We enjoyed French 75s and ordered charcuterie. The Brie like cheese is a must. Then I ordered the Brussel sprout salad and my friend ordered...clams. Honestly I don't do shell fish so i dk. Lanie answered all our questions about ingredients and checked in to make sure we were happy with everything. I can't wait for Coquette's new location--this place was truly outstanding. From start to finish, it was a flawless dining experience. Every dish we ordered was perfectly executed and full of flavor. It's such a rare pleasure to have every course arrive at the table tasting exceptional. An honest review about Coquette... I really wanted to LOVE this spot, but it was only JUST OK! We made a reservation for Sunday brunch. Some of the tables that seat 2 people are very close to one another, and with our luck we were seated at one where we felt like we were dining with the other couple next to us...wasn't very comfortable. If the tables were spread apart a bit more then that would be nice. The restaurant itself is BEAUTIFULLY decorated though! Our waitress was not friendly at all. I mean ZERO personality, which is a shame for a spot like this. She made sure to tell us she was also looking after the bar as well. She took our drink order and then our food order, and we didn't see her again until the check came. When we asked her about pastries while ordering, it seemed like they were out of items like eclairs and croissants (on Easter Sunday, right when they opened at 11am, which was very odd). What French bistro is out of CROISSANTS??!! The French press coffee and fries were the 2 best menu items I had. The salads were all great too. The quiche was just ok, Cafe Monte definitely is the winner on that one so I would go there instead. Omelet was ok as well, nothing special and very plain. The duck fat fried chicken had this curry flavor to it which was odd but we ate it. Overall, this is a one and done for us. I would just come back for an order of fries and glass of wine if I was with a group that really wanted to go eat there (and that's a BIG maybe). Set in the downtown of Charlotte coquette transports you to a Parisian cafe. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful. We only had an hour and our waitress attentive and never made us feel rushed. The pastry's are delicious freshly baked and warmed when ordered the chocolate croissant and hazelnut eclair were absolutely decadent! The salted chocolate GF cookie could've fooled me with how soft and moist it was. Our coffees were made to order and came timely with the pastry's The main entrees we ordered were varied as it was brunch. The herb omelette was fluffy and came with herb butter on top. Slightly more runny than I like about was very good. We also got the Le hamburger- toasted croissant with an egg on top of a perfectly cooked burger I got it with the hollandaise sauce on the side. As much as this place appealed to me, I've been putting off going here...mainly because of the uptown parking situation. It's just hard to find free parking around this area, and the nearest parking garage costs about $15 on weekends. No matter, I finally chose this place for date night (or delayed V-Day dinner)...and as expected, the place was gorgeous...and a lot more spacious than the way it appeared in photos. We ordered a variety of items... Potato Beignets, Baby Green Beans, Coq au Vin Blanc, Duck Fat Fried Chicken, Almond Croissant, Creme Brulee. Well, I was quite surprised...firstly, of how generous the portions were...and also surprised how absolutely delicious they ALL were!! They were all beautifully presented too. I even loved the cocktail, "Black Rose"....sooo good! My husband and I agreed that we made the right choice for V-Day dinner. Service was great as well. We were seated promptly (via Open Table RSVP) in a nice, big table...and our waitress was very friendly and attentive. So was the management. Everything was on point...which I found especially impressive, since they were so busy on this night. I even loved the overhead music...so much so I hoped it was cranked up a bit more. Really wanted to like this place but sadly was let down. The interior and ambience was fantastic and settled in for a nice dinner. Our server was nice and attentive and gave a nice run through of the menu and suggested selections. It was a little odd to get one wine list and then suggested to use another and then were told they were out of a lot of items. They were out of a wine option my wife selected and they only had 1 of 5 beer options listed on the menu. I'm assuming it was newer location hiccups so I could write that off but again for a higher end restaurant that's strange. We got the potato beignets which were fantastic. The let down unfortunately was with our entrees. I ordered the fillet cooked to medium. The cut I received was cooked to medium well (almost borderline well done) and had a very thick crust on it (enough that the steak knife that was brought to me was difficult to cut through). I normally would've sent it back but we had a show to catch and were both hungry. The flavor and sauce we good but at $70 I expected a better cook on the steak. My wife ordered the pork belly which had a wonderful presentation but it was also very tough and difficult to cut through (assumption here is it was undercooked). Again, we were in a time crunch so didn't send it back. We had the mashed potatoes as a side which was excellent. This is a very cute little restaurant, especially for lunch. Part of it's a bakery and they have very many wonderful looking treats. I had the macaroons a box of six and there were some of the best I've had even compared to the ones in France the service was very nice and I had a salad with blue cheese and and smoked salmon. Our server, Roger, was a true professional--attentive without hovering, and very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was phenomenal. I don't understand how you can be open till 10pm but there was not a soul in that restaurant dining. No one was trying to eat a 4 course meal. We took my mother-in-law to this because she likes French things (as do I) and it was very nice. The decor is elegant and charming and you can pretend that you stepped into a Paris restaurant. I think that reservations are recommended although we didn't make any but they were gracious enough to seat us. The parking is difficult as it was in the street, so we parked at a parking garage. It was pricy though but maybe to be expected given the ambiance and food and the service was a bit slow. Otherwise, both the service and food were great. We ordered bread and butter as appetizers and while it was good I wish the bread was a larger portion. I do like that they had mocktails and the one I ordered was delicious. We ordered coq au vin and the mushroom tart and they were both good, with the chicken being very tender. We also ordered the mini-dessert trio to share and they were all delicious, especially the almond apricot dessert. Great place for a fancy night out or a celebration. read more

Visited Coquette after a lovely experience with its nearby sibling Mariposa. Wow. Came in with two colleagues; we had last all met in Paris, which is why I chose this spot which has a reputation for being authentic. And was it ever (minus the snooty service one might get in Paris -- servers here were charming, attentive, knowlegable...and POLITE!). What struck us most was the authenticity in virtually every detail -- all on strategy with the restaurant's name and definition (look it up!). The room feels like you could be at a bistro in Paris (down to the patisserie, the bar, and even the servers' outfits). One of my colleagues, upon looking at the setting and the color palette, said "I feel like I've walked into a Monet." Lovely wine list by the glass and by the bottle. Variety of varietals in both blanc and rouge, with a nice list of digestifs as well. The menu is just...spot...on. We opened with a four item charcuterie board (there are eight things from which to select -- three meats and five cheeses, all appropriately French. The tomato onion tatine -- served with goat cheese ICE CREAM for crying out loud -- was unique and absolutely outstanding. Nice selection of other tartines including the expected (champignons/mushrooms) to the controversial (foie gras). By the time we had finished those, our tummies were well sated, so we decided to split a salad and an entree. The brussels sprout salad came highly recommended from our outstanding (even though it was only his second night on the job) server and from the manager, who visited us as one would hope/expect. It was excellent. List of entrees was as one might expect in a bistro: boeuf bourguignon, moules, a couple of fish entrees, coq au vin...we went for the lamb chops because (1) they looked really good and (2) were easy to share. They, too, were wonderfully spiced and cooked spot on to temperature. Smattering of pastries for dessert...but the REAL desserts were awfully tempting...wish we'd saved room. Throughout, a really nice, authentic taste of Paris -- but with NC hospitality. Only minor beef was the bright lighting. These aging eyes appreciated it; the room could be fine with about 30% less...and feel even MORE authentic. Can't say enough good things here, and this comes on the heels of a wonderful experience at one of their other restaurants. Looking forward to returning to both. read more

Then we tried the Coquille St. Jacques Gratinée--absolutely fabulous and oh so French. For our entrees we had the Moorish Lamb Chops and the Trout. Both were very flavorful, and we had plenty to take home! We had dessert as well--the Crème Brûlée and the Chocolate Bouchon. Delicious! Overall the food and drinks were excellent. Food was out quick and hot, and our server was very friendly and attentive. My only qualm is the distance between the chairs and tables. I get they might be pushing everyone close together in an effort to make the place feel like a traditional French restaurant or create an intimate atmosphere, but it was TOO intimate for me. It was very difficult to scoot away from the table to get up from my chair. We kept bumping into the people behind us! Was not really impressed to be honest. Everything was just okay. For starters, that tiny breadcrumb of bread was $6. Don't get me wrong, it tasted great, but was it worth $6? Absolutely not! The entrees themselves were not very filling. While there was very memorable flavor in the mussels, it was not enough to captivate me. I really appreciated the bread that came with it, however, it was not enough to soak up the sauce. I came here to celebrate an anniversary and I was happy to have tried Coquette. Let's start with the most important topic, parking. Parking in the garage that is attached to the building. 400S Tryon is where it's at. Coquette will "validate" the parking, but after the validation instead of paying like $20 or $11 (on weekends), you'll pay $5 which isn't too bad. The parking lot is part of the same building, so if you're parking in a different building, it's the wrong parking lot! Onto the food - So we got the croissant escargot bites, pan seared foie gras, halibut, mussels, side of pomme frites, and for dessert an apple tart. The standout dishes for me was the halibut, I just wished there was more! The sauce was great, and it was expected but the fish itself was great. The appetizers I think was even better than the main, but the problem with it was that there wasn't enough! At 3 bites each, you're getting a taste of it and after each bite you just wanted more. The flavors of the appetizers were great. I mean, foie gras is always good. For dessert we got the apple tart. It was alright, nothing crazy or special. The service was alright, I think we had the bartender as a server so they seemed like they were pulled both ways. Also, due to the open space and close proximity of other tables, it could get pretty loud. Decoration wise, it does give you the French vibes that's for sure. If you're looking for an experience, I would recommend Coquette. It's something different (French food in Charlotte is hard to come by) and the food experience is great. read more
