First things first: Go to PostScript. No, it's not in South End or LoSo and technically not in Plaza Midwood - guess you could say it's in Plaza Shamrock? (look it up). First impression: you walk in to a Victorian, Gothic style bar and are warmly greeted. Then taken through a curtain to a somewhat similarly decorated dining room (love the books!) Then the fun really begins with creative cocktails (mine was a Dirty Dill Martini) and great apps including a Fig Tartine and "Caesar salad with fries" (AMAZING fries) and you can also get a side martini! We then had 4 delish main courses - the mushroom cavatelli (really "mushroom forward") lamb (could be a tad more medium-rare, but flavor and spice was fire), the most beautiful seared tuna salad and a great halibut. Dessert: Roasted marshmallow over chocolate crunch sorbet and lemon-olive oil cake with pure peach sorbet. Our server was terrific and ambiance was great. 10/10--don't wait, go now! This beautiful space filled with lush red tones, dark wood, and mirrors is so warm, inviting, and absolutely perfect for a date night. The staff is incredibly welcoming and offered great suggestions for my very first visit. Being a huge fan of savory cocktails, I simply had to try the Dirty & Dill-ightful, and it did not disappoint! For food, I ordered the Caesar salad and fries. While a Caesar and fries might sound simple on paper, the homemade croutons and house dressing completely take the salad to the next level. The seasoning on the fries and the accompanying dipping aioli are wonderful, too. (Plus, an added bonus: you can actually add a martini to this dish!) The French Onion Soup comes served in a fresh bread bowl from a local bakery--do yourself a huge favor and add the braised beef cheek to it. To finish the night, make sure you leave room for dessert. The Fernet-infused ice cream sandwich is truly a next-level treat. We were blown away by our dinner at Post Script! From the excellent service and relaxed yet elevated vibe to the inventive cocktails and exceptional dishes, you can tell they pay careful attention to every little detail of the diners' experience. We started out with two of the Gemini cocktails (which had a fun interactive element in the form of a "magic" color-changing shot and rock candy "wands" for stirring) -- a tad sweet for me but still tasty! I preferred the old fashioned, which had a honey pecan syrup + pecan bitters and even came with a Wether's caramel candy attached on the side with a tiny clothespin! Food-wise, we started with the French onion soup appetizer (the sourdough bread bowl and Gruyère cheese sent this over the edge!), then for our entrees my husband had the steak frites with a black currant chutney (beautifully cooked and incredibly flavorful), and I had the best duck confit of my entire life (the skin was perfectly crispy, the soubise sauce was velvety smooth, and the fennel salad + roasted summer squash added a nice fresh contrast). Phenomenal!!! Truly can't think of much in terms of criticism for Post Script -- we're already so excited to come back and try more of their delicious looking dishes, and we're so thrilled to have them here on the east side! read more

It's been a while since I've been impressed by a new Charlotte restaurant, that is until Postscript. The service was friendly and attentive enough. Sure, there were a few missteps but they are still new and they were very swiftly made up for. The Caesar and fries ( with the add on dirty martini of course!) honestly could have been sufficient for one person. It was difficult to have to share the fries with the most scrumptious dipping sauce with another person but we had more food on the way. The only let down of the night was the French onion soup bread bowl which was unfortunately better sounding on paper than in reality. The bread absorbed too much of the soup so you didn't have any broth left that hadn't soaked into the now soggy bread. No worries though because the best was yet to come and it did with the arrival of the lamb belly. This was really the star of the night. Succulent well seasoned lamb over an excellent mix of grains, veggies and dried fruits. Really really good. Between the 2 of us this was already more food than we could handle so it made for a very reasonably priced dinner. Add on the perk of very easy parking and it's official, we will be back. read more

My wife and I came on the second day the lights were turned on. No big fanfare opening announcement, as the neon sign out front says, "Sincerely, Open". That's what Post Script is and aims to be: earnest, delicious food prepared with nuance in a comfortable space with caring service. When we arrived, the hostess met us at the door and then quickly showed us to the banquette. This allowed us to sit next to each other and look around. The penny table and the antique couch will serve as the seating for a large group's special occasion. The banquette has this beautiful, delicate scrollwork you'll see turning your head. That scrollwork has a similar style to the chairs around the space. There's an artwork that's from the owners' own home and space for more art later. A colorful bookshelf decorates the path between the kitchen and bar. Speaking of the bar, it's original to the space, complemented with curved brass Art Nouveau lighting fixtures and Alphonse Mucha art on the walls. The staff was very helpful to point out the drinks with asterisks could be made as mocktails. My wife had the Post Script spin on the classic Gin & Tonic called the G&T as a mocktail for its fresh and botanical vibe from strawberries, mint, and thyme. I picked Plane To The Jungle. While it has bourbon, it was in no way bourbon-forward with its Campari, Nonino, and pineapple. The drink was indeed a "Lush Tropical Twist on a Bitter Classic". My wife has a dairy allergy, and our server, Evan, also checked on which menu options would be best for her. She chose the Braised Beef Cheek Bourguignon ($29). While it was unusually cold outside and I was intrigued to try the Niçoise salad, I ordered the Cavatelli ($24), a Stroganoff of several types of mushrooms. When the dishes came, my wife described that the umami of the wild mushrooms in the rich wine sauce underscored the flavor of the tender beef. The portions were large and satisfying, such that I was glad we had skipped sampling from the appetizer options, though the French Onion soup was tempting that brisk day. The Cavatelli was filling with all its mushrooms, sauce, and cheese dancing on the pasta in my mouth. The pasta shape has these wonderful grooves you'll appreciate as it helps gather every delightful taste of sauce off the smooth edges of the bowl it comes in. The check was as expected for dining out in this day and age with quality ingredients as a solid meal. We will certainly be back. So should you. Did you have a bad day at work? A seat at the bar, the G&T frites, and salad will ease your burdens. Don't feel like cooking, and a delivery service is becoming your most stable relationship? Go try the chicken scarpariello. I have so much to say about this restaurant but probably where I will start is that we left the restaurant less than an hour ago and I'm still thinking about what an amazing experience we had. The food... OMG the food. The chicken scarpariello is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I dare you to find a better chicken dish in Charlotte. No seriously if you find one come tell me about it. Wow! Just Wow! It is literally one of the best chicken dishes I have EVER had... anywhere. And I love chicken. I could go on and on about it but hey .. do me a favor and go try it for yourself. My husband had the Halibut...he complains about everything and literally said 'I have nothing to say'...-as he proceeded to eat his meal and then a third of mine. Nice variety of wines (we had a couple of the Rose' and a Viognier). We ended the meal with a house made strawberry sorbet... yummy! I'm only upset about one thing... that's been open in Plaza Shamrock for a while now and we haven't been. Ssooo many missed yummy meals. But never fear - we will be back, again and again and again. Truly an incredible experience! The food is absolutely delicious! I was BLOWN away! The owners are incredible, and inviting. They have definitely devoted themselves into this Restraunt and it shows. From the beautiful plates/bowls that were hand made by the chef and exquisite flatware that was hand picked from estate sales and such from his wife. The entire inside has been painted and spruced up since our previous visit and looks so great! Now to the menu, it's a bit compact, but once you take that first bite into your own meal you'll understand why they simplify things. I didn't at first, but WOW! My tastebuds were blown away. Absolutely 5 stars. I wish I could afford to visit more often. My only complaint would be the prices. It did seem a little higher than what I expected. I seriously considered doing 4stars vs 5 due to that but it could be based on many factors so I'm giving grace. I'd love to go back but really can't justify the cost yet.
