Went to this store in hopes of getting additions for our 3 big tanks! There was an OVERWHELMING amount of dead fish, frogs, lobster, pretty much lay least 1 things dead in each tank, the tank with the frogs I counted 4. I worked in the fish room of a pet store when I was a teenager and my tanks NEVER looked so bad. The living fish looked like they were half dead. If you want healthy fish DO NOT GO HERE! I wouldn't even trust fish from here for feeders. Sirs, it wasn't a matter of us not wanting anything, yeah we heard you, it was the poor conditions. Dead fish happen but this was excessive! I walked passed the second row and told my husband we would NOT be buying any of these I'll fish! I had 3 angelfish picked out when we first walked in but wasn't spending my hard earned money on sick, poor quality, unkept fish! The coral didn't even look healthy. It's not that difficult ESPECIALLY when you have everything you need on your shelves! Completely unacceptable! read more

Although it is unfortunate that I did not have a quarantine tank, no store should be selling ill fish. I purchased about ten guppies from this store, and they all passed away within a day of purchase. They all had ick and affected some of my healthy fish. The personnel is excellent. I only wish they had given the fish closer attention and checked the tanks before selling them. read more

I have been going to Coral Reef in Tampa for over 2 years and they have always had quality products and the sales people are very friendly that take the time to listen and then make recommendations. There inventory of fish is amazing and they have species I have not seen at any other store in the area. What's so great is I always come away with new information and tips about about fishkeeping. Today I spoke to Melissa who helped me pick out the right algae eaters for my 30 gallon tank as I had no idea there were so many different types and sizes. She is extremely knowledgeable about plants and how to have success in growing them in your tank as well. I've been to all of the salt water aquarium stores in Tampa and I can tell you with all sincerity that Coral Reef Aquariums is by far the best of the best. All of their livestock is healthy and well taken care of. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They are located at the intersection of Armenia Avenue and Waters Avenue nestled within the Winn Dixie shopping plaza. I will continue to buy all of my salt water aquarium fish, and supplies here and I highly recommend them. They are hands down the very best in the business! read more

There's no reason to visit another aquarium store in Tampa. I have bough Neon Tetras from other stores and the ones I have bought have been especially fussy and hard to keep alive. From other stores they died in a matter of hours, I kept trying what they recommended and nothing ever worked. I decided to buy Neon Tetras from this store and you could immediately tell the fish were in much better conditions (the coloration was brighter, they looked bigger and healthier than in other stores). Sad to say that two of them died and two remained alive overnight but died the next day, which is saying a lot considering from the other stores they died in a couple of hours. I'm new to having aquariums and they have been amazing helping me monitor my water quality and recommending the right products. They seem very committed to what they do and they're making sure my water does not contain ammonia levels unsafe for the fish. Hopefully soon I'll be able to keep those tetras alive and happy. The store had a set up of crabs in an aquarium and I bought one. The crab kept going on top of my sponge filter and out of the water so I called the store and the employee informed me that they belong in half land half water. When I bought the crab I said it was going in an aquarium and he said it was fine, however when I called he said at first that it was fine but then said it wasn't. He got flustered and hung up on me! I was really happily surprised by the expertise of the staff and the owner couldn't have been more helpful with showing me what Id want and need to get started! Got 2 fish here for 25$ each and asked the owner if they would both be good with my other fish in my tank. One died immediately because It never belonged in our tank in the first place and he just wanted to sell it. And the other fish killed our whole tank because it also did not belong in there.
