I took a 2-hour one way train ride to have a solo lunch at Corazon Cocina, at the Public Market in Santa Barbara. This eatery is the crown jewel of this location and is also a Michelin Bib Gourmand destination. They have a wide enticing menu and making a choice of what to eat was really a tough deal. At the same time, it was my desire to try something different, in Mexican cuisine. So after much self debate, I chose Sal De Mar. And I am so glad I did so. This dish was presented in a stunning fashion, with bright colors, shapes and was extremely well plated (see my pictures). It consisted of seasonal sashimi quality fish, watermelon, avocado, cucumber, fresh chile, pomegranate, hibiscus and aguachile. The ceviche preparation was exploding with textures, flavors and freshness. The fish melted on my taste buds and the watermelon oozed out its juices with every bite. Undoubtedly, a menu item that I will remember for a long time. Now, I need to go back to try more selections from their menu. read more

Located inside the food hall, Corazon Conica was the vendor with the longest line so we decided to give it a try. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomach and we decided on a little bit of everything. The best items were the Sal de Mar, so refreshing with the watermelon. Who knew it would be so delicious with sashimi? The shrimp tacos were amazing and I love the thin flour tortillas. Their birria quesadilla is a bit different and more like a bigger open face taco. I was so stuffed but for dessert I got the orange flan because I needed something sweet afterwards. There are many indoor and outdoor seating so you can take your time and enjoy the meal here. read more

Corazon Cocina was fantastic. There is a big food hall in Santa Barbara near the main drag that has a brewery in it and about 6 other types of restaurants. I was going to get an octopus taco from Corazon Cocina, but I noticed they had tortas available this day, let alone pastor! Yes please. I ordered the pastor torta and it was ready in about 5 minutes and the guy behind the counter asked what kind of sauce I wanted. "Spicy please!" The sauce had a good kick and the chips were wonderful. The torta was perfect on a great bun with lots of flavor in the pork butt. They knew what they were doing. I brought it over to the brewery that had like thirty taps and enjoyed an IPA with my lunch. Even though I was by myself, I talked to the great bartender the craft beer place. They have a ton of great selections here at Corazon and the line around 12:30 was starting to get pretty long! A definite must try! Especially with a great beer selection just steps away! read more

I stopped by for the burrito week to get a paisa burrito 9 $ ! The burrito was kind of small, but it was fire specially the meat which was pastor ! The meat is marinated and cooked to perfection, so I decided to go back after the burrito week deal and let me tell you I was highly disappointed not on the quality of the food but on size of the burrito for the price I payed! Burrito was hell of small same size as when the 9$ burrito was being offered! So with that said I don't think I'll go back again , for a 3 bite burrito that cost 20$ no thanks ! The food is bomb but highly over priced and for me it ain't worth it at all!! Walked to public market area. Ordered the El Cali Taco and the Al PastorTaco. Big disappointment as the Tacos were very small (4-5" tortilla and economic portion of flap meat). Not a good value for a Taco. Taste was average. I had to go to another food vendor as insufficient portion after eating the two tacos. Service was okay for the few people ordering. Overall 1 star out of 5 stars. Improvement needed on the filling, be less stingy in filling, use bigger 8" tortilla. No ambiance, similar to food court in a shopping mall. read more

I found the burritos to be quite expensive, though that might be because this branch is located in a food marketplace. We tried the Prawn Burrito and the Steak Burrito. The steak one was a bit soggy and the meat was somewhat grisly but it's a heavy, filling burrito, and while the portion was fair for the price, the overall quality wasn't great. The prawn burrito wasn't much better; the cheese was nice, but the burrito itself wasn't well executed and didn't feel authentic. On a positive note, the chips and salsa were good, but overall, the experience was disappointing. I wouldn't recommend it. read more

** Legit Baja Mexican with a California twist! ** Came here to check-off one of my "wish list" restaurants on Yelp... Corazon Cocina is situated just inside the SB Public Market, which I find to be such a kitschy and fun way to infuse big city vibe into our local scene. They open after 6 pm, so I placed my order on the app for pickup at 6:15 pm. (HINT: Be sure to place an order for pickup well ahead, since they get a line forming early). They appear to be staffed well, and the wait after order placed, is around 8-10 minutes. What I love: The BIRRIA tacos with peanut inspired sauce are so soft, decadent and rich. They are balanced with a hint of acidity by the cabbage slaw. I suggest a few well-placed drops of their house salsa and perhaps a dollop of sour cream. We also ordered the shrimp tacos, which are fully loaded with wild, white Mexican shrimp. (Suggest the green house verde salsa to accompany). What needs improvement: This place is pretty decadent....But, I did have a problem on their website placing a to-go order. -It glitched and never finalized my order, so when I arrived, they did not have my food ready. -That's not a problem I can blame on staff, since it was a website error. The staff were nice about helping me to place a reorder. However, by that time, I did have to join a long line that had formed. I just think they need to take a look at the web ordering site and make sure it's user accessible and not "glitchy". Otherwise, I commend "Corazon" for their flavor profiles and fresh vibe. Located inside of the Public Market, I thought that the ambiance was really cute. A little more of an upscale taco experience! We got the Al pastor Tacos (which be warned, are a little spicy) and the Fish tacos. They were both delicious and there are daily specials so the Al Pastor Tacos were a dollar off on Tuesdays! The service was very quick and they give you a buzzer so you don't have to stand around. One caveat is that the tacos are on the price side so cost around 5-8$ for only one taco. read more

Anytime I'm in SB, I swing by here. I always get at minimum 1) Sal de Mar (watermelon & fish ceviche) & 2) Plantains. The ceviche has a blend of ingredients that my brain doesn't initially think of as a combinable but the radish, avocado, sprouts, fresh block chunks of fish, cucumber, watermelon, pomegranate, & a glorious sauce. The plantains are caramelized to perfection & covered with crema & cheese crumbles. Must not forget, this is located in a food court. When it's a busy day it's obvi that the wait is long, but I come back for my fave every time. read more

After hearing so many good things about Corazon Cocina, I went out of my way to try it on a Sunday at peak hours and was extremely let down. I ordered an al pastor taco and a steak quesadilla with rice. The pastor taco was ok but not fulfilling at the price point of $6.50 for one. Although flavorful, it contained a lot of fatty chunks. Upon trying the steak quesadilla, the cheese was melted and pulled exceptionally well but the protein lacked in flavor and tasted like it was a few days old. It carried a gamey tastes with every bite. The rice I thought could save the day was extremely bland and lacked flavor. I will not be coming back and encourage future customers to take their money elsewhere. I will be taking my business to the street taco vendors due to improved flavors and the price point. read more

It's really that DAMN GOOD! My wife and her friend couldn't believe how good the Tacos were at this awesome establishment. My wife had the Norteno Taco and it was the bomb. It was utterly amazing. The tortilla was homemade and the skirt steak was incredible. Molly had the Birria Taco on a homemade blue corn tortilla. This taco also made all-start status. They also had Doraditos Crispy Chicken Tacos loaded with queso fresco, lettuce and a tomato cream sauce. Again, a legit offering. You need to understand how good these Taco's were from the girls perspective....both my wife and friend have lived in the Central Valley their entire lives. Decided to try this place out after hearing that it had a Michelin Bib Gourmand award was blown away with how amazing the food was. I thought it was cool that this place was tucked away in a food court hall as well. I ordered the Carne Asada Torta and the Masa Masa. While the food was on the pricier side, the portions were very big and I felt very full afterwards. The torta was packed with pickled onions, guac, tomatos, salsa, and cheese and was packed with a generous amount of tender meat. The outside of the bread was crunchy while the inside was soft and fluffy. The masa masa was suppose to be an appetizer but the portions was a lot bigger than we thought. The outside of the masa masa was crunchy and the savory flavors of the meat and corn paired well with the fresh toppings. The flavors were so good and well balanced for both and I will definitely come back to try the other specialties on their menu! I've been eating at the Santa Barbara location since it opened. It was one of the best. Today we were completely disappointed. The shrimp burrito was excessively overpriced: $19.50, shrimp and vegies, no rice or beans, too spicy for my teenager. The short rib tacos had very little meat and were so spicy that rather than enjoying them it felt like we were enduring the pain eating them. Sadly, we won't be re-visiting. We LOVED the restaurant location but the market location did not really meet our expectations after going to the restaurant. The food was good but not sure we will go back to the market location. Lots of people there in line so there are some great food options. The service was a bit slow. You wait in a long line and then you wait quite a while for the food to come out. The team that works there is fantastic- super nice and managing lots of moving parts. The atmosphere is a typical crowded and loud market environment with lots of energy. We found it very easy to park outside. My suggestion would be to check the pickup times - we were about an hour for pickups so we decided to go and order there - which almost became an hour between the line and waiting for the food. So during busy periods order on line and then go and pick it up - you can still eat at the market. read more

We went here on the recommendation of somebody else, and I'm glad we did. The restaurant is inside the Public Market - an open air marketplace with tons of great looking restaurants. No complaints on the food. Tried the Biria Quesadilla and it was incredibly tasty. The ceviche with wild shrimp and mango was a bright, lightly spicy, generous appetizer. Lastly we tried lemon ginger chia seed agua Fresca - very heavy on the ginger which I liked. The only downside was the service. The cashier had attitude, it took a long time to be acknowledge when standing at the front, and I had to specifically request my receipt as she tried to shoo me away. So yesterday on my way to Alameda Park for the Day festival I passed by Carazon Cocina. I thought this place looks inviting. I took a break from the festivities and decided to check out the Food at Carazon Cocina. I'm so glad I did, what a Wonderful experience. While I'm checking out the menu and asking questions I asked about their wine selection. The young man at the register was busy but took the time to answer my questions, which was Great. I settled on a quesadilla with a mild chili and I Mexican wine which was quite nice. I was grateful for the help with my selection. My food arrived and looked amazing. When I arrived there were a couple of tables busy and a couple at the counter which is a nice touch. In a matter of minutes, more customers arrived as well as more staff, almost like magic. This place always have a huge line each time I visit but I'm glad I finally got to try it. The tacos here are on the higher end in terms of the pricing. It can get a bit messy but that's what makes eating tacos so fun. It is located in the Santa Barbara public market place. Free parking can be found on the streets or public parking structure for a fee. My favorite was the La Corriente (shrimp) because it was very fresh, flavorful, and unique. I thought I would like Tia Juana (octopus and shrimp) better but that was actually last for me. The flavor was there but it was not from the octopus or the shrimp. The Ensenada tasted like every other fish taco. The batter was crunchy and the fish was fresh! Other than that, would I come back? Sure, just not when there's a long line. Awesome tacos with excellent meat to (homemade?) tortilla ratio. We had three tacos each plus a watermelon ceviche main dish and it was more than enough food...easily could have just had 2 tacos each. Honestly, everything was delicious so just get the tacos that sound best to you...the Birria was probably the best Birria taco I've ever had. Bonus points that they are on Uber Eats!
