I will never use this funeral home or recommend them to anyone, not even if they were donating services. My brother passed away on January 12th and they handled the services. It was issues from the time I signed the documents for them to handle the services. I requested to meet them at the funeral home to see my brother once he was picked up from the county morgue and they declined but offered to send me a picture of him. Who does that? They sent me a photo of my brother laying in a body bag with blood all over his face and his chest stitched from the autopsy. Really? How insensitive! Fast forward to the viewing day which was before the funeral. I show up that morning to view the body so that I could approve the viewing. When I saw my brother, he looked like someone that I had never met. I had to request a makeup artist get there immediately to make him look like himself. The service was beautiful and then we had him cremated. I called for weeks to check on his cremains and no one called me back. Eventually I found the cell number of one of the employees named George who was heaven sent. I left him a message on Feb10th, and he called me right back. He told me that my brothers cremains were ready for pick up. It had been three weeks. I picked up a portion of his cremains and shared that my brother's wife would come by for the other portion. She has called many times and as of today, they have not given her anything. Fast forward to March, keep in mind my brother passed January 12th. I had been calling Corbin Colonial for weeks now to request the two death certificates that I paid for and again, I can't get anyone to return my calls. I called the medical examiner office on April 1st. Now if you are familiar with Chicago, they are dealing with triple the numbers of deaths then any funeral home in Chicago. The next day, I received a call back from the medical examiner office explaining that the death details were sent to Corbin Colonial on April 2nd and I would have to reach out directly to them for the death certificate. It is now April 16th and I have called at least 12 times and still no return call. No death certificates and no cremains for his wife. Channel 7 News and my Lawyer will be my next calls. read more

I entrusted to Corbin Colonial Funeral Chapel services for my mother, prior to that, I had only known that the business existed, never used the business before. Initially, they were prompted in picking up my mother's corpse, she had passed away at home. I WAS UNAWARE THAT A FIRE HAD BURNED THROUGH THE ESTABLISHMENT AT 5345 W. MADISON AND HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED BY THE THREE STAFF MEMBERS THAT CAME FOR MY MOTHER ON 12/3/24. THE HELL BEGAN! When I went to meet with the Director, Sherita on Madison St., that is when I observed the disaster that the fire had done. I phoned the number on the board-up of the burned building. NO ANSWER! Worried! Kicked in, several messages were left for them. I went to Pickett Funeral Home to inquire believing that they were friendly business, The Director was kind enough to allow me to wait in their Funeral Home establishment until I received a call back for Corbin Funeral Home, Wow! a nightmare. The frontline staff, named, FAITH was very rude, she informed that she could not at the time tell me where my mother's body was being preserved. Nearly 30 mins had passed before hearing from Sherita, she explained to me basically bs, lamed excuses about why FAITH didn't provide me with details where my mother's body was. Sherita finally shared where my mother was and told me that I couldn't see her body without staff coming with me. I can't imagine anyone being ok with that, after being spun around, I went to location anyway, to my relief, my mother was there. From that point, I could never speak to anyone, unless, I had their direct personal phone number, because of FAITH, BEING THE FRONTLINE STAFF. IN MY OPINION, SHE IS RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, DISRESPECTFUL, AND INSENSITIVE TO BEREAVE FAMILIES. SHE IS A WOLF IN SHEEP CLOTHING! My mother was buried, 12/18/24. I can't get pass FAITH to get to anyone else in obtaining MY MOTHER'S DEATH CERTIFICATE, WHICH WAS SIGNED BY HER DOCTOR ON 12/20/24 and faxed to Corbin's the same day, I was informed by her doctor. FAITH has repeatedly been rude each call, informing me that it will take at least 6 -8 weeks OR MORE. I AM STILL WAITING FOR IT. NEVER AGAIN!!!! I received a call from my aunt today after we funeralized her sister on 8/15/2023. my aunt died unexpectedly which was very devastating to our family. we used Corbin funeral home 5345 w Madison. the treatment that our family received left our family confused,angry and heartbroken . I will never understand how you come to see your family before the viewing only to find out its not going to happen. my aunt saw her sister and thought she was having a heart attack . my aunt was not properly prepared for her final viewing as friends and family gathered. family walked in to see her before others arrived and to see people were already viewing her body before family. my family sat in a chapel room very dark ,smells were not pleasant and it was raining in the chapel. this is so unprofessional and disgusting. we will not be using this chapel again ever.my aunt body was not preserved properly. read more

We released my aunt to Corbin Funeral Chapel and was extremely displeased with how we were serviced. Her body was signed for release and the funeral home still took 3 days to get to her. Once she got to the funeral home it was an extreme lack of communication to the point we had to constantly call the funeral home and barely got an answer. The day of her viewing, we were told to come at 12:30. We called to make sure it was ok to come then and they told us no come at 2:30. We arrived at 2:30pm and they still did not have my aunts body in her casket. There was no communication about anything. Her visitation was scheduled to start at 3pm, after waiting until 3:30 an older lady came out the back to my family (over 50 ppl in the hallway) and said loudly "her face is all taped up, they're trying to fix her face." What reason would there be to fix her face. They gave us no answers, just brung the body out and opened the doors to the public even without us confirming if we were ok with the work this funeral home did. I touched her body and she was soft and wasn't even cold, and after reading other reviews, I can absolutely believe they don't have the adequate equipment or proper freezer situations to preserve the body. My aunt was swollen, and her face looked as if it was peeling. This completely sent the family into a frenzy and we could not even properly grieve my aunt because we were so upset with the service given. They took us back into the room to discuss our frustrations and they just pretty said ok we'll take the visitation cost off. By immediately giving money off, shows that they did not handle this situation correctly and they were completely out of place on how we were treated and wanted to save face. That's not enough, we are literally dealing with pain and suffering and eternal damage. I would NEVER recommend this place to anybody, they gave horrible communication and ultimately horrible service. read more

My mother passed in my car while driving from my home in the western suburbs to her home on Chicago's west side. The funeral home I was familiar with was Corbin. Many of my family members had used their services and my mom wanted to be close to her home so her older friends and neighbors were able to attend her home going. Other than attending funerals there I had no other experience with Corbin. The young woman who assisted us was extremely rude, threatening and curt in her manner of speaking to us. I wish I could remember her name but I don't. What I can say is she was young, very thin and in my opinion she hated her job. She complained about the hours and missing her child. It was early morning when I got to my moms house. I had called hospice from my car. The nurse would meet us at the house and contact the funeral home to pick up the remains. It seemed we waited hours while my mom was still seated in the front seat of my car before someone from Corbin showed up. When we arrived at Corbin we were introduced to the woman who's name I can't recall. We went through the cost of the funeral. First I noticed a double charge for picking up the body. I was told they charge more if they have to pick up at a home because of stairs. There were no stairs!!! She was sitting at the curb! They finally removed that charge. Then the nightmare begins, oh you want a visitation, that's EXTRA! You want the service at a church, EXTRA! Sign in book, EXTRA, gloves for pall bearers, EXTRA! Prices were outrageous! A no frills funeral was more than $10000.00 and that didn't include those items purchased outside of Corbin. If anyone has planned a funeral you know you are running from one place to another and eating only happens when you reach the near starvation level. I had just left Corbin and we were so hungry, we went across the street to grab a bite to eat. My phone rang and the woman with no name was on the other end. She said, "you've got 30 mins to get here and pay your bill or I'm not moving this body!" What the what??? I just left there, no one said anything, you sent me to find a dang bra for my mother who didn't have tatas to speak of. We are up and down Madison looking for a bra but you fail to tell me about payment!!! Then you threaten me and give me a time limit!!! What kind of people work for Corbin???? I live 45 mins. away...what if I had gone home? I would not make that deadline! I immediately left the restaurant and walked across the street and paid the bill. Would I use or recommend Corbin Colonial to a friend or family, the answer is NO!!! They are money MONGRELS and they attack you at you're most vulnerable point. The sign in book we purchased at Hallmark for $20, Corbin charged around $60. This is just one example. People don't tend to shop and compare when a loved one passes. I know I didn't and I fell into the depths of hell at the hand of Corbin Colonial Funeral Chapel where the Devil just happened to be female! read more

Please do not use this funeral home. They're very unprofessional and only are about the money. Corbin had the remains of my son and did not preserve his body in a freezer. They never told me that they didn't have a freezer. They didn't call to tell me my Son's remains were ready because they knew his body was decomposed. Sherita is who I worked with to make arrangements not one time did she call or have her staff to call me to inform me of the condition of my son's remains. They let me witness my son's remains with his face falling apart and his body smelling very bad. The day of the wake I ran out of the chapel screaming to the top of my lungs. They made us a portrait for him for free but nobody in this establishment has contacted us about what went wrong. I started to contact them that Monday but of course every time you call Sherita is busy with a family member. These ppl are not remorseful and don't care about you in your time of need. My son's body was so decomposed he looked like something on a horror movie. Pls spread the word about this funeral home. I only picked one star because it doesn't let you post without selecting a star. These assholes don't deserve a star and I ain't sleeping until I seek justice on what they did to my son's remains. read more

UNPROFESSIONAL Ghetto TRASH I do not recommend this place to anyone. They brought my grandfathers body almost two hours late to the church where his funeral service had to begin without a body. It's completely embarrassing and it's no excuse to make such a terrible mistake. This funeral home is fantastic. We had a sudden passing in the family of my youngest brother-in-law and Mr. Durandt went above and beyond to help us, accommodate our requests and just help us heal. They are professional, patient and kind during a very hard time. Funerals are not easy or cheap to plan but they really try to work with you and explain things upright. Where possible they provided discounts and waived fees. It is much easier to let them help you through this process. We at first were overwhelmed and worried about cost so we were going to do things like printing, flowers, etc on our own, and it would have saved a little money but in reality it is such an emotional time that we ended up having Corbin do the details so we could focus on grieving and they did an exceptional job. We lost our mom October 2, 2016 and Corbin made our lost so much easier. We were serviced with respect and treat with honor. The father waited on us like the Queens that we are and Duran his son took over and made sure that all was well with the arrangements. The son and one the Directors came to the grave site to make sure that everything happened as planned. The Director that took care of our service even spoke at the end of the service to tell us that we were a wonderful family. It will wonderful having your own kind treat you well. read more

This is the worst place in the world to bring your family members. They don't have a freezer to keep the bodies in! Only a room with an air conditioner that they turn off. They are supposed to clean the bodies the day they get them from the morgue but they didn't clean my brothers body until the day before the viewing. They charged us $100 to do his hair, his hair was not done on the day of the viewing. When we finally seen his body it was almost decomposed. His lips were falling off, his eyebrows were completely gone and they drew them on horribly. He had what looked like burn marks all over his face. They tried to pick it up and left pinch marks all over his face. When they realized we were upset and scared of someone we knew so well they literally pushed his faced to with their hands to try to make him look better, so then he had finger prints all in his face. They didn't tell us or warn us about his appearance or anything at all before we got there all they said when they walked us to the casket was "I tried my best" before he opened the casket. They were supposed to let us know when we could come to the funeral home for the viewing day and never even called us. They had makeup all over his clothes. They didn't point us to the correct memorial book and had everyone signing the wrong one. You could smell bodies decomposing as you go to the back to the bathroom. They didn't even have enough people working there! This is horrible and we are greatly upset and can not get the image out of our heads. We bought him $800 shoes to wear and they had a cover covering his shoes so we don't even know if he had them on! And not enough people working there at all. I just did a funeral at Corbin's 10/15 and it was no frill and I needed a longer casket family car and all was under $10k easily. Staff treated us with respect, and we had it at a church. Well bottom line to this review is call for yourself............. read more
