Overall: 4 Stars Sometimes pictures don't do justice correctly. With that said, the small bar / restaurant's food and staff were wonderful. Located in the Carolina district and right next to Patio de Flores restaurant is narrow and has limited seating inside. There is a bar maybe with 5 seats and a long bench in the other side where 6 tables are. There is outside seating to people watch if you prefer a less crowded environment. Fortunately we have came around 5 on Sunday at it wasn't busy at all. We were only people in there during our time. The place is narrow and dark and has a small stage where a live band plays. Sadly, the band wasn't scheduled for Sunday. Staff: 4 Stars Our server / bar tender was bilingual, pleasant, professional and friendly. She smiled as I "Hablé español" my way through the meal options. But hey, the dishes that were served were the right dishes I ordered. Haha. Food: we ordered two entres. 4 Stars - Pescado frito / Fried fish The whole red snapper was perfectly fried, topped with a house escaveche and it was served on a bed of Mushroom Risotto as the side. The fish was crunchy, flaky, and steaming hot. NOTE: Red Snapper has a lot of bones so be careful when picking it with a fork. Though the fish was good, the mushroom risotto was the star of the show. It was flavorful with garlic and other herbs, buttery and creamy. It had the mushroom's umami flavor which enhance the flavor profile with an earthy taste. 2. 4 Stars - Shrimp Rissotto Shirmp Rissotto with truffle oil, mushrooms. The shrimp were plump, juicy, tendered and with hint of the Caribbean seasoning. It was good but once again the risotto was the Star. You do not need Salt and Pepper for either dishes! And we love our salt and pepper! Now, I forgot to take a picture of the current menu and the pictures of menus posted on their Yelp review have changed. So go their website for a current listing. We had our absolute BEST meal at Corchea when visiting PR!!! I wish we would've just eaten here every night. Lol. Didn't even walk inside as it was a gorgeous evening and we ate at on of their covered outdoor tables. The service was super friendly and on top of everything. We went at like 5:30 on a Tuesday evening, so can't speak to the crowds, we had no issue getting a table. We started with the shrimp wontons, and while they may have looked "regular", they were absolutely delicious. I shared the seafood Paella, and it was solid. They were out of lobster, and the flavor wasn't super strong, but it was still very tasty. But what you definitely HAVE to order is that salmon with pesto gnocchi!! OMG, it was some of the best salmon I've ever had, and I eat A LOT of salmon. Cooked to perfection, tender, seasoned well; and the gnocchi was an extraordinary accompaniment!! Great texture and flavor. Can't say enough about this dish! And please end your night with this fudge cheesecake (called something like sundae cheesecake on the menu). Ubered from Contado to Isla Verde on Valentine's Day because every good food restaurant I checked around San Juan was booked. Called ahead and they put me on the waiting list for almost an hour later around 9pm. At arrival they had a table outside on a beautiful night. Granted outside has a view of a smoke shop with smoking pouring out on one side, a CBD shop on the other, the street and condo towers. At arrival a violin and keyboard player were performing. However an hour before closing they took a break and returned for about 20 minutes before packing up. They were good! Issue: when you ask for water they bring you a fancy bottle of spring water and tell you their tap water is not very good. I ate half my meal before I asked the manager for tap water. Give your patrons a choice, don't force this on your environmentally conscious visitors. Deduct one star for this frustration. Ordered the salmon gnocchi based on numerous great reviews on Yelp. The plate had a nice portion with great tasting gnocchi. The salmon had been done too long so it was hard on the edges and much too salty. Another at my table ordered Ravioli with lobster and this was Excellent... Service started good, although after I declined the overpriced bottled water another person at the table pointed out the server appeared to be ignoring me. Our Airbnb was just across the street and provided the electricity issues we wanted to be close enough to go back to the Airbnb just incase. We looked on Yelp and found the restaurant next door did not require reservations; however, when we got there, they asked if we had a reservation because they were full. While standing outside trying to decide where to go next the manager of this restaurant asked if we were you looking to have dinner and drinks because they're an "actual" restaurant and he said "our food is better than theirs" We all laughed and asked if they had indoor seating for 7. They were able to quickly put tables together for us. Inside is small but very well lit and decorated. They usually have live music on the weekends; however, giving the recent hurricane there was no live band but that does not go to say that we did not have a great experience. The drinks, the presentation of drinks, the food was very well seasoned and tasted amazing, the service was excellent I feel everything was amazing given we were a party of 7 and had no reservation. Hands down Corchea served me the best cocktails during my time in PR. I ordered the Corchea Fire and two tamarindo Mezcal margaritas, leaving as the happiest of costumers. We ordered the Ceviche Mixto, Tostones && Arroz Mamposteado. All a 10/10 with the exception of the shrimp. Though fresh, it was bland. What a difference a year makes. First time here was my last night in and after refusing some long waits elsewhere in Carolina /Isla Verde we converted from compact to patas and found this gem of a restaurant I honestly think most of the menu was solid--had to have been--because my choice of Salmon gnocchi didn't seem like it was going to be stellar, but it absolutely was. An in-house pesto put the Isla Verde in the dish. And as good as it was, the highlight of the night --aside from the friendly waitresses --was the arancini app. There aren't a lot of places not solidly Sicilian/Italian that execute arancini this well--and especially not in the Caribbean. If anything maybe Corchea hadn't quite found it's niche. It's a narrow, intimate space that would be great for date nights, but I could easily see this being a spot for bar link up as well. The only thing I would not recommend is bringing the kiddos. Yeah, no. I came back this year looking for a repeat and alas... Looks like Corchea solo un recuerdo lejano. Food: 4¼/5 - more fusión than French or local but really good Atmosphere: 4/5 it has a local bistro/bar feel to it and I dig it. Service: 4 1/2/5 - another high point. We had the ricotta stuffed mushrooms, steak bruschetta, salmon gnocchi, shrimp wontons, and mushroom risotto (side). Our favorites were the gnocchi/salmon and mushroom risotto - but everything we ate was delicious. Was contemplating giving four stars due to them being out of stock on a few things on the menu. They only had one salmon, they do not offer diet drinks (someone attending dinner has diabetes) and did not have mint to make a mojito, so it was declined when we asked to have it.
