The beginner class is also difficult in a way that will signal to your body that it is capable of more. Her sense of humor and dramatic playlist make the hour-long class enjoyable. Every person in the room is usually grunting and oiy'ing with the slight adjustments that she makes to help maximize our workout. I have taken class the day after Thanksgiving and also on random weekends. The small class size makes each session feel like a personal training opportunity. The Barboza Method makes me re-think my posture and movements in everyday life, especially as I am mostly sitting at a desk during work hours. Oh, the violations to our bodies when we are constantly on devices and crouched forward! (Insert crying emoji here.) I am excited to re-train mine so that I can age better over time. Another observation is that the class is challenging even for the seasoned fitness fanatic so don't think you'll breeze on by, even if you do megaformer/solidcore or crossfit/F45 frequently. Some of the clients have legit hard bodies next to my softer and noodle-ly self, yet they're sweating in solidarity and you can tell it's not easy for anyone. The studio culture is non-judgemental so I feel like a rockstar afterwards (in a OMG-I-didn't-die way) even though I still look like a donut. Try it at least once so that you can open your eyes to a unique treatment for your muscles and alignment. It's both torturous and nourishing, and different from anything you can find at other studios or at standard gyms. You can find Stephanie on ClassPass or pay for individual classes or packs. The credits or $ are worth it. Some logistics: Parking is via meter or side-streets. Watch the signs. One of my classmates said there is also free valet during some evenings but I haven't tried this option. The studio has storage cubbies but they're not locked, so I recommend leaving your valuables in the car. Seriously, you won't need your phone anyway. Barboza Method is right next to the restaurant Horses, and you have to walk down a short alley into the adjacent backyard to access the door. It's not creepy. If you are early to class, take your time walking toward the studio. There is something about the discovery, a-la Great Expectations, and that soundtrack song by Mono rings in my head. This daydream is truly short-lived because you'll need all your concentration for class.

Prior to joining this studio, I was doing Hot Pilates at a studio that was more spa like, and was also a great fitness space, but after a year, I was reaching a plateau. While I got stronger and even lost weight, the body composition wasn't compositioning' quite like it is at G:50 in only 2 weeks of my monthly membership. If I had joined this space a year ago, my body would be bodying more than it is, but I'm super happy to have found the space. Coach Kat introduced me to my first class, and inspired me to return. She had great attention to detail when it came to adjustments to achieve proper form. Then I discovered every other instructor also had that same level of precision, with slight variations in personality and style. They'll ALL push you to your threshhold and beyond, and with regular attendance you'll grow addicted to the workouts pretty quickly. If you're looking to relax in comfort, this ain't it but if you're looking to get uncomfortable for strength and growth, definitely try these classes! To begin, a physician colleague and friend of mine recommended Pilates exercises to help with my migraine headache symptoms, since traditional migraine medications had become ineffective for me. I called several local studios, but was immediately impressed by the prompt pleasant response from individuals at The Pilates Studio of Beverly Hills. They were friendly, and went the extra mile to accommodate my crazy schedule. I soon discovered that Pilates movements and exercises were much more difficult than I had expected. When I arrived there was already a class in progress... Not only was there nowhere to stand or sign in I got awkward stares from all 4 women in the class including the instructor. Not a "we are almost done" not a "welcome sign in here" not a word, nothing but weird vibes. So I spent the next 5 mins finding the bathroom then finding the bathroom key.. I had to ask the next door yoga studio for one of their loaner keys because the 4 times I crossed past melrose yoga doorway all I got was more unwelcoming rude looks. I couldn't be bothered to stick around to see what happened next, when the previous weird class was totally running overtime. I'm sorry but they can keep that $15 no show fee and their bad vibes I'll stick to the welcoming studios at 8am! Plus that parking lot is hell.
