I thought the guy was coming out to hook up my old fireplace, cause the line had been capped. He did an inspection, as i thought he would, but he then told me I needed all new stuff and went into a lengthy sales pitch. At the end, i asked if he could just hook up my old fireplace for the time being, and he said no, i needed all new stuff. I was watching what he did while he was here, and after he left i hooked the old fireplace up to see if it worked (he never did this). It works just fine. I feel like i paid $135 to have someone show me how to reconnect my fireplace myself. ~~~EDIT!!!~~~~ From 2 stars to 5 So, after the initial review, Nick came back the same day. He explained that our pipe from the gas line was an old pipe that wasn't used anymore for safety reasons and replaced it with a brand new flex pipe and fittings. Then he sat with me and went into full detail about our fireplace and the safety concerns regarding it, making sure I fully understood the problems with our fireplace and what needed replacing. Nick was very professional and friendly the entire time, even during the initial first visit. Where the miscommunication was was with our options for replacing the stuff that needed replacing. I mistook that for sales pitch, when he was really just being thorough with my options. I've been burned by contractors in the past, so i automatically assumed it was another situation like that. I had an old gas fireplace that I wanted to redo, so I contacted Core fireplace to talk about it. Nick was very friendly and came over to inspect my fireplace and talk about what I wanted. Since I recently remodeled my home to be "smart," I wanted the fireplace to be smart as well, since I knew I would rarely use it if it was difficult to operate. My end goal was to be able to turn the fireplace on/off with Google Home or with my phone (Z-wave). I know this technology is still a bit new, but Nick was able to figure out how to do it! We had a gas fireplace in our new house, but it had been disconnected and the gas line capped off, with no gas logs or anything setup. After attempting to get Lowe's to setup gas logs with a remote (switch) ignitor, and being told that they didn't know how something like that would be done, I looked around and found Core Fireplace on Yelp, with a ton of positive 5-star reviews. Nick contacted me promptly, and came over to check out how things were at the house. He gave me a quote, with a few options in a couple brochures that he brought over, and explained exactly how everything would be setup and how it would all work. We picked out a set of gas logs and an electronic ignitor that would be connected to the mains electricity without any need for batteries or maintenance, other than an annual cleaning. After agreeing on what we were going to do, Nick helped me figure out how to re-light the pilot light in my water heater, which I'd been waiting to light, having booked a Socalgas appointment a couple weeks in the future - but short work was made of this, and I was shown exactly how to do it in the future if I needed - all this without any complaint or charge, even though the only relationship to the fireplace was the fact that both used natural gas :) The fireplace was setup on time, and the firebox walls painted - in a single day, after a week-long wait for the selected gas-logs and other parts to arrive, and works extremely well. It's been over a month now, and I couldn't ask for anything better. I highly recommend Nick and Core Fireplace for all your gas fireplace needs. Contacted Nick a while back about fixing our fireplace, that originally had "california white" coating done by another contractor. One year later that white coating started to peel and contractor failed to fix it. So Nick recommended going with infiniti glass, or alternatively with white painted metal, if we wanted to keep white color. We decided to go with infiniti glass. It looks really good once installed! It actually made fireplace feel and look bigger, and dark glass looks great with TV above it. :) Once fireplace is lit (ours is gas only, with glass rocks covering the burner), it looks really lit! :) Nick was super professional when he came in for initial inspection. Really like when contractor puts on shoe socks when coming into house. His crew was also very professional and kept the place clean. It seems like they have good attention to details and try to make it perfect. After glass installation, there was a minor touch up that needed to be done. Nick had no issues coming over next week and finishing it up and making it perfect. If I ever need any other fireplace work done, I will definitely reach out to Nick again. read more

Nick and Core Fireplace removed and installed a new gas fireplace in our condo. We couldn't be happier with the way it looks and works. It's a strikingly beautiful fireplace now. He is great and so is his team. Not only is Nick excellent and knowledgeable at the job; he is so positive and helpful. When I originally wanted a particular fireplace and the manufacturer didn't have it in stock, Nick spent time figuring out how to get the one I wanted in time and he was able to get them to send it so it could be installed during our renovation. Whenever we had questions he always answered them and he instructed us on the new fireplace and the remote which was new to us. I did not hire these people and here is why: I had an inspection report done when I purchased my home which stated all of the things that needed to be repaired on my fireplace. I sent this report to 5 different companies to get quotes. 4 of them came back with similar estimates on what the job would cost. Core Fireplace came back and said that there is no possible way to get any of these manufacturer's parts so I would need to completely rip out my existing fireplace and install a brand new gas fireplace. They then included a link to their " recommended brand". It was completely misleading and felt like a major cash grab. Be very careful and do your research before listening to this company's recommendations. Seems as though they are just out for profit and not actually helping the customer. read more

Now let me tell you about my score experience, or rather my "Core" experience.. Apparently I woke up in a completely different universe. I opened the door to George and Nick, I didn't get any B.S. I got the answers quick. and that was that. After so many shoddy, unprofessional, mercenary and caviler outfits, I had finally found a Fireplace Professionals. Not only did they turn up on time, they emailed me an exact estimate minutes after they left, they even wiped their shoes on my doormat before they came in and looked me in the eye when they shook my hand ... Old School!!!! I was very impressed with the level of their professionalism and knowledge.. George took "cleaning as you go" to a new level.. For every time he used the drill for 3 minutes, he would vacuum up for a whole minute, so there's no particulates in the air, and there was NO mess. The fact that when they didn't know something they said I don't know impress me even more than the work which was fantastic when somebody says I don't know it means that they're honest. I selected Core because it got good reviews. The estimate experience was fine. However, when the work was done I had to remind the guy his quote included several things that he was not going to do unless I kept a strict eye on him. Everything had been working fine for a year until I started to smell natural gas. I called the Gas Company out to see what the problem might be. The Gas Company found that the guy from Core did not fully connect the gas line to the wall, and remarked, "probably because it's a little bit hard to get to so he didn't want to take the trouble. And, he did not attach the sensor that shuts off the fireplace in the event the flue becomes clogged." The Gas Company told me that I would have continued to smell more and more gas and then things would not turn out well for me. Because I can't post without star I am forced to give it one. I'd rather thank the guy for putting my life and property, as well as my neighbor's in my condo building, at risk. read more
