He went on our roof to inspect the chimney and removed a temporary cover, dropped it over the side of our home. When I mentioned the cover is used to keep insects and rain from falling through, he said he'd be back to replace it. After he promised a quote with the different options, he stopped responding. I followed up a few times and he forgot who we were and asked me to send photos of our chimney so he could remember. I tried to follow up with him again and was ghosted by him. While he seems responsive at first, I think our chimney may have been an issue he's never seen before and didn't have experience with. I recommend using a more experienced company and one that's more responsive.

Great insight especially when it comes to our chimney. We had issues with the chimney cap and the flashing in addition to the more routine elements of cleaning the interior smoke conduit. California Chimney Sweep was fantastic! They made a prompt appointment and arrived on time. All of our conversations were pleasant and all of our questions were thoroughly and politely answered. The inspection revealed a number of issues that required attention. Potential sources of water intrusion were meticulously sealed. The area inside in front of the chimney was carefully draped to catch any debris and then a vacuum device was placed in the area. Nothing escaped into the room while the chimney was carefully cleaned. As the work was done they even noted an area around one of our windows adjacent to the exterior chimney that also could be a source water intrusion and suggested that we look into having that area sealed. We were so grateful for their helpful and careful approach to our issues. California Chimney Sweep went above and beyond expectations and did a fantastic job taking care of our chimney issues!

He charged me $225 for diagnosis and said the valve is busted and will cost about $600 to repair in the first communication. I had authorized it over the phone. Then he forgot to come back to repair for over two weeks. I had trusted him entirely and this is where he took advantage. While the valve costs about $350 from parts warehouse, he later said his price to me was $1200 and said that is how the industry works. On top of that he said it will be four hours of labor at $250 per hour. He argued that he has been doing this for 20 plus years and any other technician will do the same. Luckily, I was able to fire him right away and also have Venmo return the payment for false diagnosis. I called up another technician for repair, while ordering the part myself. The other technician said valve is fine and charged me $300 for overall service. Michael would have costed me over $2500. Dishonest, unethical, unprofessional, extremely poor communicator. Not sure how he had five stars.
