I am probably going to be reviewing all of CPY's Boston locations at this rate. Pros: 1. Proximity to my apartment. Given that, I'll probably still end up driving over since the intersection over the pike is not the most pleasant spot to walk through, and the nearby parking/garage lot offers cheap metered parking. 2. Big welcome from Emma who was manning the front desk when I walked in. I immediately got a much friendlier vibe from, say, Fresh Pond. 3. I went with CP 2, which actually seemed more beginner-friendly than the other CP 2 class I took at Fresh Pond. This one was less heated/humid and the sequences were easier to follow. I also really liked that this class was less crowded than others and I didn't have to worry about stepping (or sweating) on someone else. Cons: 1. The locker rooms were still ... not dirty exactly. Maybe dingy is the right word? Lots of dried slushy water and salt on the floor. It's not fair of me to complain, given the recent snowfall and the rock salt strewn everywhere on the sidewalks. I do wish though that there was some sort of way to make the walk from the lockers to the studio room less dirty for bare feet. Maybe next time, I'll try the cubbies right next to the front door. Unlike some other studios/gyms, CPY seems much cheaper if you buy a membership or package from them directly (especially when they're running a promotion or offering their free unlimited week to new students) versus if you book a class thru ClassPass credits. Given how close this location is to me, I'll be back to try the Sculpt classes! read more

Love this studio and the staff who work here, very obvious that they enjoy working here as well which in turn creates a great environment for members. I agree with another one of the reviews written in that the music doesn't line up with a typical yoga studio's choice. While this is great for higher intensity classes, for more relaxed almost meditative classes quiet tranquil music is best! read more

I'm a CorePower member at home in Minnesota, so while I had some free time in Boston this weekend I decided to try out the Newton location. The staff could not have been more welcoming. I didn't have my membership card with, but they quickly looked me up in the system and welcomed me to the location. Since I had not been before, they gave me a quick overview of the studio layout. I attended Erika's 10am Saturday sculpt class. It was very challenging (lots of burpees!!), while still energetic and fun. It had the same overall class routine as the sculpt classes i go to at home. The class was quite busy, so I'd recommend getting there early. The women's locker room was very clean. After the class I showered and got ready for the day, and they have shower products and hair dryers to make it easy to clean up after class. I will definitely go again if I'm in the area. read more

3 stars for being a decent yoga studio, extra star for the merch. I commute right by this location of Core Power Yoga, and one day last summer, soon after they opened, was obsessed with a pair of coral leggings and a salt and pepper top I saw in the window. Being a mere five minutes from my office, I tried on a few occasions to drop in to try on said outfit. Sadly, the studio is locked when there's not a class within 20 minutes, so i struck out a couple times. But, when I did make it in, I saw they carried Beyond Yoga gear, and was stoked because I thought the company was mail order only, which made guessing sizes hard. So, I was able to try on a few pieces and then ordered what I wanted from the site directly(I wanted cropped leggings and needed a top in a size they didn't have in stock--though they offered to order it). Fast forward a year and I snag a free 2 weeks of ClassPass, and use it to my advantage and take a couple of classes at this studio. I tried the yoga sculpt with weights and an all-levels flow that was basically a low heat beginners' class. I basically died in yoga sculpt, which involves warming up with a standard power yoga sequence (in a 92 degree room), then taking vinyasas holding weights, then repeating various lifting exercises. It was hard. As others have noted the music was too loud, too. I'm staying loyal to my main squeeze (O2 yoga in Cambridge and Somerville) but would drop by this studio again if I actually sucked it up and paid for ClassPass, since their early morning and late afternoon classes actually fit my schedule quite nicely. I am came here to practice while visiting family. I didn't take the hot class, it was a power/flow 85 degrees I think. I'm not one for hot. Upside - let me start off by saying that this is a beautiful space. Very eye appealing. The instructor was very helpful and pushed us to do our personal best and I left the class with a great work out. He reminded us that he'd be around for questions at the end of the class. He remembered all of our names which was awesome! Very personable. The downside: The music playing in the background was I guess supposed to be calming, classical music, but the tempos changed, music went higher and lower and it was more of a distraction than anything. At least for me. I needed to find my focus and intent here and it just didn't happen. All in all, this could be the norm for Boston studios. I'm used a more stress free space to practice. Would I go back, maybe. If I was in town and I needed a place to go. Could I seek a more calming place that fits my needs? Yeah probably. read more

This is by far the best yoga studio I have been to since I began practicing (2 yrs ago) There are other studios in the area, which I won't name, that are sub-par. The facilities, equipment, studio / locker room, and location make this a must try for any yogis in the area - they are right in Newton Corner, have after-work classes and offer parking! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and made me feel very comfortable. The price is comparable and you get a lot more in the way of quality with CorePower. I will definitely be signing on once my FREE, yes free, full week trial is up. So glad I found this location! read more

Tried out this Yoga studio recently and did like it a lot. The studio is very clean and bright with nice locker room and shower (a big plus for someone who likes to workout then get ready for work at the studio!) I took their Core power class and Hot Fusion class and liked both - the classes weren't super crowded (had less than 10 people) and the flows were well balanced with a good combination of strength and flexibility practices. However, I'm used to taking 90 mins long hot yoga classes, so I feel like the the 60 mins classes here were a bit short for me and I'd like to stay longer in certain poses for a deeper stretch. I haven't made up my mind on whether I will become a regular here mostly because of the steep pricing. It's $25 per class and most classes are only 60 min (maybe it's just me, but comparing to what I'm used to pay - $10 to $17 for 90 mins classes, this is steep). Well I guess they have to pay for the good location, larger studio, and nicer locker room. I'm just someone who cares more about the quality of the actual class, rather than the facilities. Might be totally worth it for someone else though! To be fair, they do have discount for multi class pass (5-20 classes) and monthly membership (if you are someone who practice everyday!). read more

I love Newton CorePower Yoga. They offer a variety of classes from C1 (slower/easier yoga) to Sculpt (very challenging). Be sure to read the class descriptions before signing up so you know what you're in for. The classes are always different and I have never had a bad instructor. The studio is clean and the staff is friendly. I always leave here feeling better than when I walked in. If you are going at a busy time, like after work or on a Saturday morning, then be sure to get there a little early because it gets really crowded. I usually park in the metered lot in the back. There is some free 1 hour street parking and I believe they validate the garage. read more

Love it here. Hands down best studio I've ever been. They have a wide variety of classes from gentler yoga to yoga sculpt -- which is this amazing aerobics-like class infused with hot yoga. It's cardio and yoga and weights all in one, such a work out! I also love that there are so many instructors and not one class is the same. They have a really solid but steady schedule with so many options, which makes it so much easier to fit class in when life or work gets crazy. The studio is clean and the staff is so friendly. I like this Yoga studio. They have a lot of parking space nearby and offer to validate 1.5 hour of it. I took advantage if their one week free classes for first timers. Their studios is spacious with a lot of lockers, shower space and complimentary toiletries. Also, they have a huge network in the country so you can pop into any one of them if you have membership. They have a couple of studios in Boston, which means they are well trusted in the local yoga community. read more

The manager was so unfriendly and unhelpful. I was late for a class by 10 minutes so she would not let me in citing safety policies. Even though, I had just come from another gym, I respect that viewpoint. I then asked if I could become familiar with their facility and if I could watch the class from the outside, and she refused to let me, then I asked if I could shop in their store and she said no she had paperwork to do. read more

I really liked the Newton Corepower location. The studio was very clean and did not smell like a sweaty gym like some other locations. The candlelight core 2 class was great. It gave some options for not advanced students but was good for someone newer to yoga and it flowed at a reasonable pace. read more

pros: clean and modern studio variety of classes energetic instructors validated garage parking cons: no changing rooms ... seriously ... you have to change in the bathroom or in the shower stall ... or infront of everyone in the locker room schedule - the way their schedule is set up is that they have the same class at the same time every day. So, for example 4:30 class Mon-Fri is always yoga sculpt. It's great if you like yoga sculpt, and not so great if you want to try different classes. It didn't work with my schedule. During the week, I can come to any class that starts between 4:30 and 5:30, and every weekday of every week it was yoga sculpt or beginner classes ... I didn't want to go to beginner, so the only choice was sculpt, which was ok, but it got boring after a while and I wanted to try something new. I tried Fusion on weekends, and I liked it a lot more, but that's only weekend. It would be nice if they moved some classes around during the week so ppl that come to work out after work can try a variety of classes. This was a big con for me. the music - most instructors that I had for sculpt had the music turned waaaay up, and none of them had a mic. So they were screaming instructions to the class. It was difficult to hear as the instructor was moving around and sometime you hear what she says, sometimes you don't. There were times that I felt completely lost and had to look around the room to see what other ppl (closer to the instructor) were doing. If you insist on having the music so loud, wear a mic so ppl can hear you. But this brings me to the next point ... I don't think yoga and Katie Perry blasting from the speakers mix. It's a good class ... but it's not yoga just because you do a couple of upward/downward dogs and a chair pose. The "yoga inspired" moves are the same in each class, and it gets boring. So in my opinion, just drop the word "yoga" from the name, and just call it "sculpt class". read more

Let me put it simply: I could not do a single pushup (without putting my knees down) before I started my month-long stint at CorePower Yoga in Newton Corner. Now I can do countless pushups and I really enjoy them. The reason: their Sculpt class. If you're a woman of a certain age and you know you should be doing weight-training but you can't stand it, their sculpt class is the answer to your prayers. It's fun, punishing and it will whip you into shape in no time. Part yoga, part weight-training with a few minutes of kick-your-a** cardio thrown in, it is phenomenal. I enjoyed CorePower's other yoga classes as well, but compared to sculpt, they're a walk-in -the-park. The facility is lovely and the vibe is very welcoming. A few minor complaints: the music in the Sculpt class is a little too loud, making it hard to hear the instructor at times, and savasana is way too short. read more

Super clean and an incredibly knowledgeable instructor. Went here for a two week trial and did the hot power fusion course. Walking in, I was pretty intimidated since I wasn't sure what to expect. Flanked by my girlfriend and several other petite women, I was ready to be proudly emasculated. I like to imagine that I held my own as I balanced in a pool of sweat. All in all, the atmosphere is fantastic and the instructor was helpful and understanding. Absolutely try it out... After all, what do you have to lose? Time... And maybe a few pounds?! read more

So today was my first time coming to core power. I bought a groupon and I was very excited. I wanted to attend the 5:30pm I left my home early so I could be there on time. But the mass pike was backed up do to construction. I walk in and explain to the guy at the front desk my situation and he says "oh well Im sorry but I can't let you in after 5minutes" mind you it is my very first time at this place. I feel like due to the location and me being a new comer he could have made an exception. Then He asked if I wanted to attend the 6pm class. Which completely defeats the purpose because I am a beginner. SMH read more

REALLY hit or miss when it comes to instructors. Coming from CA, I am used to the teacher doing the flow with the class to demonstrate proper form. I guess they don't really do that here in MA. There are tons of mirrors to correct yourself, and the staff does a pretty good job assisting in correcting poor posture. The free week for new students was amazing, but I just couldnt bring myself to pay $17/class after that. Although, I must say, compared to other yoga places I have checked out- this one has the nicest showers, changing rooms, and actual yoga studios. read more

I tried core power yoga with my gf as a fun date night activity. We work out a lot, but this was my first hot yoga experience. We did hot power fusion at 106 degrees emailed the management asking if it was ok for beginners, but as we went in no one really helped us with our technique or posture. Jen was our instructor and I felt like passing out about 5 times in the room, the most she did was walk by us and asked how you guys doing then walked away. She was nice but I wish she was more hands on and involved. I ended up having a splitting headache for 8 hours then my heart raced, checked my blood pressure and it was 205/175 which also caused me to have massive heart palpitations. I ended up going to the emergency room from dehydration and high blood pressure and high heart rate. I drank lots of water before during and after, the instructor also mentions its normal to feel light headed and dizzy which I felt. Overall I felt uncomfortable in the class and in the room, it was intimidating as many were advanced and we were both beginners with no guidance or support from the instructor. Needless to say we did only that one class for the free trial week. When going to the emergency room the doctors told us that many people come in from fainting, heat stroke, heart palpitations and dehydration. There should be some sort of warning for the heated class as I felt like I was going to have a massive heart attack. read more

I went to CorePower Newton 4 times over the course of 2 weeks (various times on different days). Every time I asked to speak to the manager there was never one on site. On my last visit, (Wednesday) the woman behind the counter told me the manager would be in by noon. I showed up at 2:30- no manager on site. Very disappointing experience- will not be returning for a membership a 5th time. read more

Love the variety of yoga classes at this studio. I'm mostly hooked on the yoga sculpt class. Some yoga, some weights, some cardio and some heat. I love this corepower location! all of the instructors are amazing and the classes are great. if you need a good workout and don't like the gym, sculpt is your answered prayer, I always feel great and it is the perfect amount of push. the regular yoga classes are also great. my favorite instructors are ashley, annie, chrissy, and cassidy, but I truly have never had a bad experience here. the studio is clean and everyone is so friendly. it is a bit pricey but for the experience it is so so worth it. if you go more than twice a week, get the membership because it saves you a ton of money! read more

The classes themselves are alright, but the studio policy of locking the front door once a class starts because they won't pay for additional staff to man the lobby is horrible and frustrating! I ventured out in the sub-zero cold today to attend a class, got stuck behind a couple drivers who were getting used to winter driving in Boston after Thursday's blizzard, subsequently arrived 2 minutes late to the studio, and couldn't get in to take the class I had paid for! I understand that arriving late to a yoga class is not great, but in circumstances like these you really need to have a staff member available to let in latecomers at least the first couple of minutes. read more

the yoga is okay - not amazing and not terrible - but this place gets one star because a drop-in is...get this...$27. yup - $27 for a drop-in at the corepower yoga in NEWTON. i've done drop-in yoga classes (literally) all over the world - and i can honestly say that i've never been to a single yoga studio anywhere (even in NYC) that charges $27 for a single drop-in. with that high a cost - i went into the class with very high expectations and with a little bit of disgust - so needless to say i was disappointed. not going back here...ever. read more

Wanted to try this place because it has great reviews, but after paying for the class online and showing up 2 mins late without being let in (called front desk to tell them I was just parking, but no one answered). The girl at the desk wouldn't open the door to the studio for me and said she wouldn't let me in for class at 7:30 when I was at the door at 7:32. I know being late isn't ideal in yoga practice as it's distracting for some people, but I guess I'm just used to a studio like Baptiste yoga that allows you no matter what state you're in - just happy you came and not judgmental. Will never be coming back here again with that kind of customer service. read more

The sculpt and C2 classes are the most popular. The C1 classes are a hidden gem. They are not super busy so you end up with a quasi private session. It's not heated but you still sweat. read more
