Heard great things about this place so took my fiancé out for his birthday and our reservations were for 7:30 in which we didn't get to our table until almost 8:00, the waitress was very nice and knowledgeable. We ordered our food and it didn't arrive til 9:15 which I thought was crazy but overall the food was ok, we ordered a few appetizers which were pretty good and we shared the sword of John Adams and it was definitely not enough, itty bitty pieces of meat and more just big chunks of peppers than anything. This place was fantastic! Best restaurant we've been to in the entire NW Indiana / SW Michigan area. The steaks are terrific and perfectly cooked to order--we asked for Medium Rare plus and that's exactly how they came out. All of the sides and the dessert we had were great as well. We are from out of town. Chose this place based on location and the fact that it is Farm to Table. Atmosphere and ambience is very nice. We were way underdressed, but received a friendly smile and was made to feel welcomed regardless. Service was great; our server knew the menu and was very helpful in making sure we knew what things were. She was great! Time-table was a bit disappointing. We arrived late into the evening (8:45) and the place was clearing out by the time we arrived. However, we were tired and just wanted to eat and get the young ones to bed. My wife and I noted that we most likely wouldn't have noticed if we were there to socialize and relax. So don't let that persuade you (but it did seem a bit drawn out). Food...food was underwhelming. Don't get me wrong; it was good, but not great. I have become a bit of a farm to table snob (I guess)! When going to this type of restaurant; I expect to be blown away with uniquely paired flavors. But in my opinion everything I ate was, in one way or another, overpowered by something. The goat cheese crostini was overpowered by the lemon vinaigrette. The Tavern burger was overpowered by the steak sauce. Don't get me wrong, those flavors were good. But that is all I could taste. So I didn't feel like I was experiencing anything special or unique. The Lobster Mac at first was disappointing, the first piece of lobster was dried out, but I was pleasantly surprised as I continued. It is a great portion of lobster and the spice of the jack Mac complimented the buttery lobster well! This was my favorite item. Having read mixed reviews huibby and I were going to just stop in for a cocktail and head out someplace elee for dinner. At 630 on a Friday night we belly upped to the bar and ordered cocktails. Hubby had a Flat Tire beer and I had a Pomegranate martini, drinks were awesome, goat cheese hot dip with Pita chips as divine, I ordered a Margherita Pizza and hubby had Duck. Both good. Seemed to be a bit of a blue collar "hell yeah" sort of crowd, Friendly bartenders. Bill with two drinks each, appetizer, dinner and tip was $85 so not bad honestly. Coming from San Francisco, I have struggled to find good dinner spots in the South Bend area. With that said, Corndance Tavern absolutely blew my mind. Unbelievable food, unbelievable service, and I sat down right away. I ordered the Bison Burger ($18 but well worth it), and it was the best burger I have ever had. The owner owns a bison farm, and so everything was super fresh and tasted great. I followed that up with their Banana Napoleon dessert, which was UNBELIEVABLE. It's only available during the winter I believe, and I highly recommend it. I really could not have been more pleased with my experience here. This rating is a reflection of the front desk...never got the opportunity to try the food. We were a party of 5, called ahead and was told they could get us a table in about 15 minutes. We drove across town, put our name on the list and waited for about 30 minutes when we were notified that they misjudged their capacity and asked us to leave. Standing next to us was a party of 4 that was told the same thing. Worst dinner experience ever! First, we requested a booth, we got sat in a partial booth/table. We had to request the complimentary bread. Our waitress began explaining the dry aged steaks; we opted to go that route (one steak totaled $80). Once we received the meal, we asked for another basket of bread (the first basket only had 3 pieces of bread). Our waitress hesitated, mentioning that we'd probably like to have dessert. The first steak, a dry aged strip, was supposed to be cooked medium, it was borderline well done. The second steak, a dry aged porterhouse (the $80 steak) was so rare it couldn't be eaten. We waited over 20 minutes to even see our waitress to complain. She offered to have this steak thrown back on the grill. It came back still raw. Our waitress just acted as if this wasn't a big deal, explaining that towards the bone, it would be raw (pretty much insulting us). As an attempt to make things better, we received a complimentary cake in a can. We will never return here. Maybe just a fluke considering the great reviews this place had, but we will never return. read more

A great choice for dinner with the meat-and-potatoes crowd. Many choices include large portions of meat, but there are always some good fish or otherwise more restrained dishes, too. Not a place I would go for a salad, but works surprisingly well with kids: they have a pizza oven and are very accommodating of younger guests. Service is consistently strong. I was disappointed with Corn Dance. The food was below average at best. I had a New York strip steak and I could only eat part of it. It was tough and tasteless. The caesar salad was basically bland. If the chef at Corn Dance can not do better on the most basic of dishes then maybe he is in the wrong profession. Was looking forward to a farm to fork experience, but was a let down. The food while OK, was just that, AVERAGE. But the most disappointing part was the service. I think the restaurant was severely understaffed tonight. Our server avoided eye contact with us because she was so overwhelmed. The food took an ETERNITY to come out. Ate at Corndance several times before moving to Florida 2 years ago. Went back to visit family and friends recently and ate Sunday dinner at Corndance. Had their "special"- 8 oz prime rib with sausage and peppers skewered on their corny sword serving platter. That sword is way too kitchy, not to mention awkward on a bar table for four. Now on to my food. Prime rib ordered medium, it was very well done, no pink in middle. Actually quite charred. Toughest one I've ever had. Steak knife was so dull it wouldn't cut the steak. Used butter knife to saw through it. Likewise with sausage skin. And I must be an uninformed hick, but I've never eaten sausage that literally falls out of the skin in little piles when you cut it. Had consistency of dry, fine ground beef that could not hold together (like every other sausage I have ever eaten). Maybe it is supposed to be like that. If so, shame on me. Red and yellow peppers were cold and very chewy. Never had difficulty cutting (see knife problem above), or chewing peppers before. Side dish of mixed vegetables (green beans, cauliflower, onions) also charred. Tasted like charcoal. Couldn't distinguish even one veggie taste. Just charcoal. Potato slices on main platter (under the creepy sword) tasted good but were so dry they were difficult to eat. Our hosts and my wife were satisfied with their dinners, although all stated that it was not their best experience at this restaurant. Full disclosure - I did not complain to server about any of my (perceived?) problems. I had my reasons that are best kept to myself. Paid full price and tipped server well as he did a good job. I used to love this place! What happened? Chef just have a bad night? Food left over from Notre Dame football crowd previous day? I live over a thousand miles away, so no second chance. Chat Conversation Start I just want to say how mostly disappointed I was, from the beginning when we walked in the door to receiving and eating our meals. We had a 6:15 reservation for 7. Was rudely told we couldn't get seated until our complete party was there. Interesting, never, ever have had this happen. I understand it was game weekend, but talk about a lack of welcoming, customer service, and comfort, certainly it wasn't there. When we got to our table, we were informed we had 2 hours to complete our experience. Was told we should've been told all of this when we made the initial reservation . NOT! And the table next to us, in the middle of the enclosed patio, never had anyone seated at it, let alone the room, at times, had empty tables. On to the so-called food we ordered. Roasted Beet salad..........what a joke. A plate full of lettuce with maybe one baby beet sliced, outrageous price. My husband and I split the Sword of John Adams. Tiny portions, tough lamb chop, and the so called broccolini? The vegetables had 4 little pieces of broccoli with brussel sprouts and a couple of green beans. Is this what happens at restaurants on "game weekends"? Charge outrageous prices, slim down on the meals and SCORE! This was totally not the Corndance of a couple of years ago that I had had the experience with. To justify the prices with the lack of quality/quantity of food was ridiculous. We dined at Corndance on someone's recommendation. Since it was a football weekend, I made a reservation...it was for 8:45 and we arrived 30 minutes early. We were willing to wait, but this happened.... With a reservation, we were seated in a small room with four empty tables--leads little to be desired for ambiance! Asked to be moved out of "no mans land" and we were reseated in the most cramped booth at the entrance of the restaurant. The food is over-priced! A burger, salad, side dish and the evening's special, a bottle of wine came to $185 with tip!! We had our 10 year Anniversary dinner here back in July 2013 and I still remember the evening and the delicious food with fond happiness. By far the best was their filet mignon cooked to perfection and served with a special steak sauce that enhanced every bite. It was worth the high price and ruined me for lower quality filets forever. This was my first time here and I certainly plan to go back. I gave it 4 stars because my steak was a little on the Chewy side but everything else was fantastic. We started out with the Artichoke and Spinach Dip. It was awesome. I got the sword of John Adams and this thing was something else. It came out on a Giant Sword and was definitely an A+ for presentation! Can't wait to get that again. The Wife had some Fish that was prepared in a Bag and it was very flavorful. Been here a couple of times. The food is very good. Creative entrees. Great appetizers. Tonight, something was wrong though. At my table of 10, every entree was cold and we waited over an hour for our food. The waiter was nice enough to offer a complimentary dessert (not one from the menu), but at that point the damage was done. Great restaurant for the Mishawaka area. If you're out of town I would def come here since most other restaurants in the area are chains. I've been here several times. My favorite meal was chicken and waffles (a special). The food is good and different. I do agree with a lot of other reviewer's comments that the hostesses often seat you in the bar without asking. It's worth the wait for the dining room. I wouldn't compare the restaurant to the many great restaurants in Chicago, but it's a good choice if you're in the Mishawaka area. read more

Make sure and let them know ahead of time if you don't want to sit in the bar area if there is a wait. I ate the Short Rib burger and it was good but the toppings, bun were pretty plain. The food was good, rich! We ordered a few small plates, but could not finish them all! Namely, the tuna tar tar was much heavier than I'd expected, but good. Tip: ASK about the beer selection.
