Two huge balls of burrata on top of a bed of baby greens with a balsamic drizzle - stunning. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese that was cheesey with al dente noodles huge hunks of lobster topped with a crispy panko like herb topping. Wifey ordered the salmon over risotto and remarked how she could have eaten 2 more of them (I know it was delicious but I think that was the pregnancy talking haha). For dessert, we both ordered the creme Brule and it did not disappoint. One of my all-time favorite desserts and it was GREAT! Came here on a Thursday night with my boyfriend for a nice date. Ordered the duck meatballs and Brie on bread for appetizers. Meatballs were pretty good, on the sweet side...Brie was delicious. I liked the idea of having both sweet and savory dipping sauces. Finally we shared the lobster risotto which was really delicious. Normally I'm not a fan of risotto but this was pretty good. I also appreciated the amount of lobster that they included (a lot was hiding under the risotto). They brought the check and 2 complimentary cookies. Overall a pretty good experience. read more

My favorite restaurant in Wilmington, DE. I'm working here on a 6 month work assignment, and struggled a bit to find good restaurants when I first got here. I read and read on Yelp until I finally found Corner Bistro. Quite literally, hidden in the corner of a shopping center, this place never disappoints though. When you walk up, there's always a funny quote on the chalk board outside. When you walk in there's a nice little bar area, and then a small seating area in the back (maybe 10-15 tables). I've always gone on a Tuesday or Wednesday, never had a wait. The first time I ate there I think we were the only 2 in the dining room, but other times I've been there where there's been a big party taking up half the restaurant. Service is always friendly, makes sure to clarify on certain items (warn of spice levels, explain how big the plate will be etc). Legit farm to table options. I've gotten the grilled chicken, mashed potato and spinach entree a few times (Although it looks like it's changed on the menu a little since I've been there last). It sounds pretty plain/standard - but everything about it was cooked to perfection. The portion was just right, I finished my entire plate but didn't walk away feeling too full. I've also tried the onion soup and the black bean soup - both amazing! And the sweet potato gnocchi (another dish the waiter was sure to explain to me when I ordered), it's not a traditional bowl of gnocchi, it's a platter of 4 or 5 larger pieces of sweet potato gnocchi, different than anything I've had before and quite delicious. My co-workers and I have also tried quite a few of the cocktail offerings, never disappointed. My co-worker doesn't eat carbs, and they always offer him a 2nd serving of vegetables instead of the carb-side. Now, this isn't the cheapest restaurant in Wilmington, but when I'm eating out 4 meals a week, I'd rather pay a little extra to eat some quality food, and that's what you'll get here! read more

Not impressed especially at this price point. Crab soup overwhelming flavor of red peppers and no visible crab. Black bean soup average. Ceaser salad good size, but average. Lobster Mac was dry. Chicken salad overwhelming tarragon. Grilled cheese sounded good, but only grilled on one side. Water glasses are too small. The duck meatballs were good. The crème brûlée was good. We were visiting the Terrain (Glen Mills PA)Holiday Event and decided to try this restaurant later in the day for dinner. We are glad we made the choice. It is a little gem of a restaurant tucked in a little retail center a block off the Concord Pike. It had a very cozy atmosphere, quaint bar and lounge separated from the nice dining room. The cuisine was very well prepared, fresh and very delicious. The soups were excellent and the drink menu had a nice variety of cocktails, wines and beers. We were surprised on a Saturday night there was only about 24 patrons. We think there problem may be the location. Regardless , we will definitely try it again when we are in the Brandywine area. read more

It puzzles me why the craptastical chain restaurants along 202 have 90-minute waits, yet for the same price you can get fabulous quality, knowledgeable service and well-prepared and presented food at The Corner Bistro, just 1/2 mile up the road. Boggles, it does! The Corner Bistro is a little tricky to find; it's on the corner of Silverside at 202, behind La Tolteca Express and Aztec Printing, tucked in the corner. Look for the lime-green awning. The wine list is wonderful, and the servers know their stuff. Cocktails are generous and mixed well. Only Dogfish Head is served in the beer department. Foodwise, there's simply no such thing as a bad choice. Appetizer-wise, the Brie Loaf will send you into orbit, especially because of the roasted tomato dipping sauce. The salads are fresh and crisp without a questionable leaf in the lot, and the creative dressings rock. Oh yeah: Don't miss the black bean soup. As far as entrees go, again, you can't go wrong with anything you order. The duck: outstanding. The steak: perfect. The Cuban pork sandwich: so good a rabbi would eat it. The burger: Simple, yet so much better than any other burger around. The vegetarian options are also interesting and prepared beautifully. They do a terrific Sunday Brunch. Great mimosas, some of the best coffee around, and their omelette-of-the-day is always great. As far as dessert goes: You will never eat a day-old piece of cake, EVER. Their signature dessert is The Bistro Cake (though they often take it off the menu during the summer, as it can't take the heat): a moist, dense (but not too dense) chocolate cake layered with espresso mousse. Their key lime pie is transcendent; the crust alone makes me salivate just thinking about it. The peanut butter pie should not be confused with the partially hydrogenated nightmares served in chain restaurants; this one is light, balanced, and won't be making you seek a defibrillator. They also serve seasonal desserts; I'm a fan of their fall and winter ginger-centric treats. Oh: a caveat: I checked the "Good for kids" box. This assumes that your kid is well-behaved, polite and can sit still for 90 minutes. So maybe not so good for kids under 8. Dress-wise: Jeans a nice shirt are fine. In a nutshell: Fresh food, lovingly prepared and presented. It'll make a foodie have faith in this town. read more

Went here for brother's 29th birthday fiesta - my Mother In Law was worried when we approached and the sign said "RESTAURANT"... brother was worried too ... as were husband and I (annoying foodies from Los Angeles) but her, his, and our fears were fully put to rest. Absolutely fantastic meal. For all 10 of us. Including our 8 month-old. Great wine by the glass, amazing pork meals (both #1 and #2), amazing appetizers (especially the brie), amazing service. This is by far the best restaurant I've found in Wilmington thus far! It's tucked away in a small strip mall off Siverside road on 202. They have a nice little bar area with some flat screen TVs if you fancy casual dining. I started my meal with the calamari which was perfectly breaded and very tender. I would definitely recommend it as a starter. I've heard the flambees are delicious here so I went with the chefs special - crawfish, chorizo and fontina. Interesting yet fantastic combo. The crust was so thin so crispy and so buttery. The sausage was perfectly seasoned and the crawfish added a nice little touch (see pic). For dessert, I ended up trying the Angel Cake based off the servers recommendation. Excellent choice! It's soooo light and fluffy and comes with fresh home made whipped cream with a sprinkling of heath toffee on top. A perfect ending to the meal. They also give you a macadamia toffee cookie at the end (for free). I love this place, go check it out. They also have a nice beer and wine selection for all you alkys. read more

Have come here many times and have usually been satisfied. Tonight, not so much. Came tonight for my daughters birthday and started with the veggie flatbread - that was good, but that's where the "good" ended. Firstly, after we ordered, we heard a waiter at another table rattling off the nights specials. We were never told or offered the specials. I got the chicken which arrived with what looked like a stick of melted butter on my plate, or grease, but I couldn't tell which one it was. Whatever it was, it wasn't good AND the mashed potatoes were cold. My husband got the steak & frites. Fries were not even close to warm when they arrived to the table and they were over cooked - seemed old. Needless to say, he didn't eat them. My daughter had the salmon. Her risotto was also cold. We debated on saying anything, but decided to tell the waiter how disappointed we were. He apologized, but couldn't tell me what the "grease" on my plate was. Anyway, when the check arrived, they hadn't taken anything off the check, not even a glass of wine. This was disappointing since the three of us barely ate our meals. My husband asked the waiter if he had shared out feedback with the manager and/or chef and he said he had, although no one came to talk to us. Not like we were looking for a freebee, but it would have been nice for SOMEONE to say something! We won't be returning. If you can't acknowledge us, or explain the lapse in food quality, then we can't be bothered to patronize your restaurant! read more

If I lived in Wilmington, this place would be my go-to anytime I wanted a night of good food with my hubby or guests. Like Jill K. mentioned in the previous review, it's a bit hard to find. It's literally in the corner of a strip mall. From the street, when you're trying to find WHICH strip mall it's in and you're perusing the long column of clustered signs by the side of the road, don't look for a sign that says "Corner Bistro". CB's sign will be right in the middle of the cluster but the word "Restaurant" is what stands out because that font totally dwarfs the itty bitty "Corner Bistro" lettering. Service is excellent. From the host to the bartender to the wait staff. Ok, on to the food. The duck confit is delicious. The wilted spinach is cooked perfectly, along with the accompanying bread pudding. The pork shank is fall-off-the bone tender and extremely flavorful, and the mashed sweet potatoes totally hits the spot. The key lime pie is money: the first bite gives that oh-so wonderful-but-slightly-cringe-worthy pang at the back of your cheeks from the perfect tartness. An added bonus? They serve cookies to close out the meal even if you ordered dessert. Score! read more

Family dinner. This place honestly can accommodate your every need Food: always order the cheese plate and key lime pie always. Everybody else seems to love this place but I can't say we saw what the hype is about. Over all I would say the place is a rip off. We ordered the $14 calamari and the portion size was extremely small for the price. I had the fish tacos and there were more jalapeños than fish. The amount of fish was laughable. My wife ordered the pappardelle and it was a little oily and nothing special. The dessert, which was a slice of cake, may have been the only good thing about the meal. It was a large slice and the price was correct for that. Lastly, our server had zero personality and didn't even offer to refill my soda. We went here because we heard good things about it but probably will not return. read more

First of all, I absolutely love the wine list! The bartenders and servers (at least the ones I met) are total wine heads and were able to make great recommendations. This is a great place to just sit at the bar and try a new glass. The restaurant has an alluring ambiance in terms of decor and lighting. Even the bathrooms are beautiful! Service is top notch. The meal I had was good. I hold back on a fifth star because I felt that it was a bit pricey for the size of the portion and the simplicity of it. But this is coming from someone who does not like to splurge on a meal unless it is unique or sushi. I save my money for the wine. read more

Stay away if you can't appreciate great service and even better food. I selected the pork with broccoli rabe and it did not disappoint. It was perfectly prepared, with a beautiful cold salsa topping. The broccoli rabe was to die for. For dessert, I struggled with all of the choices, but selected the french egg custard. It was - in a word - amazing. The service was much better than at most places I have been. In short - find this place at least once in your culinary life - it will delight you. Not from the area, Found this place on Yelp for Sunday brunch after church. We were a little skeptical at first because when we pulled in the parking lot at 12:30 we saw that hardly anyone was here. We thought maybe we should try somewhere else, but then decided to be brave. Wow are we glad we came in! Everything is VERY fresh, local produce. I had chicken Caesar salad- kicked up a notch by sliced avocado and hard boiled on side, presentation was beautiful! Dressing was light- I normally like a lot of dressing and ask for extra, but this was so fresh it didn't need it. Homemade ice tea with mint leaf and sugar-water on side was outstanding too. My friend ordered eggs with sausage- also very fresh, and even the sausage wasn't greasy! We were tempted but passed on the dessert menu, but didn't matter because they brought us 2 butter/macadamia fresh baked cookies with the check. Wish it was local- we'd be regulars! read more

I used to come here all the time, but that was when the restaurant was under a different chef. When a girlfriend asked if I wanted to meet up for dinner here, I was excited to try it again. They used to put warm pistachios out when you arrived, but I guess that tradition is no longer something they do. This was a disappointment, but thankfully the food was good enough to make up for it. There were quite a few dishes that we couldn't decide between, so we ordered them all and split them. We started with their cheese plate which came with a brie, a cheddar and something they referred to as a Manchego knockoff. All were very good. The accompaniments were some pickled vegetables, salami, spiced peanuts, a rosemary honey, and a blackberry balsamic. I felt that the peanuts and the pickled vegetables actually took a little away from the cheese plate as they were more enjoyable eaten on their own. They had such a strong flavor that they overwhelmed any cheese pairing. My favorite part of the cheese plate was the rosemary honey as I thought it went with all of the cheeses very well. Next we split the short rib tostadas. These were tasty and came with a fresh pico which made the dish even better. They were a little messy to eat, but totally worth it. We finished with a sweet potato gnocchi with ricotta and sage pesto. These were giant gnocchi and because of the sweet potato, they were pretty heavy. The flavors were good, but they were not the light gnocchi I am used to getting. All in all it was a very enjoyable meal and the perfect place to split some plates and have a glass of wine and a nice conversation! My boyfriend likes this place a lot. He is a huge fan of the black bean soup. I, on the other hand, am not such a fan. Although, I will probably try them again and hope for a better result. I ordered the Hungarian mushroom soup which was very good. Since I was not very hungry I also ordered the roasted fall veggies. It was an assortment of roasted veggies that were overly seasoned and HARD as a rock. I mean really, very, hard. My boyfriend ordered a ravioli dish (I think it was also mushroom). He liked his dish very much. Since I was still hungry (since I couldn't eat the veggies) I ordered the creme brulee for dessert. It was ok, nothing special, just okay. Overall, I give them 3 stars because of my roasted veggies and the fact that our hostess seemed clearly annoyed with us when we walked in. She, and I'm not just being paranoid, gave us a huge scowl and barely said two words to us while she seated us. Corner Bistro is the rare restaurant that has an incredible menu with a wide-ranging and inventive spectrum of offerings AND delivers food that is downright delectable. If I lived in Wilmington I would eat here maybe . . . every night. The prices are very reasonable (as a Washingtonian, I was floored by how affordable everything was), the vibe great (casual, careless, California chic), and the waitstaff polite and attentive. The menu is extensive and could be described as modern American bistro. To begin, I had the special: a black bean soup that was tasty and very attractively presented. Second was "the sandwich" a breakfast sandwich on raisin bread with ham and some fruit. It was delish and surprisingly not too heavy (as some brunch food tends to be). It was also nice to be able to actually eat the thing with my hands--it was well assembled and not some abstract sandwich derivative best tackled with a knife and fork. We had a slice of key lime pie for dessert which was very well done--light and flavorful. We originally ordered the banoffee tart, which the restaurant had run out of--so they took the pie off the check. If only I could get service like this in DC. I went with two Corner Bistro regulars. Our conversation was lively and occasionally boisterous, but I never felt uncomfortable or out of place even though most of the diners were a big quieter. It's the kind of restaurant that would be great for everything from a quiet brunch to a festive birthday meal. Overall a very pleasant, enjoyable, and exceedingly affordable dining experience. Older and wiser as I am, it's so much nicer to spend a couple of bucks to eat a truly delicious meal than to spend almost as much on a mediocre one. I was a fan from the minute my iced tea was served with fresh mint, and it was love by the time my short rib arrived. Everything was expertly prepared, plated, and presented, from our salads,to our app, to our entrees, to our desserts. A whoops by the server (we waited 25 minutes after our plates were cleared for our server to return to us to offer dessert. It was a little expensive for lunch, about $60 (iced tea, beer, salad, soup, appetizer, sandwich entree, dessert), but well worth it. The black bean soup was by far the best I've ever had---we nearly ordered it twice. I ordered "That Salad" (yes, that's what it's called), which was a simple spinach salad and very good. Also shared the dumplings---I love that perfect slightly pan-fried on the outside, soft and steamed on the inside. For the entree, upon recommendation by the waiter, we split the Cuban sandwich ... DROOL! Finally, we finished off the meal with a slice of "The Cake": angel food cake with Heath bar frosting---light and airy.
