This is a hidden gem near longwood gardens. We bring our family/friends here for birthday celebrations and Mother's Day buffet brunch. It's a beautiful restaurant, the ambiance is classy, however, you don't need a suit and tie. The food is all so very delicious, I've never had a bad dish. The desserts are hard to choose from. I normally do the banana fosters which they flambé the bananas in front of you. But this time we went with strawberry bread pudding and hot fudge sundae, both scrumptious. The appetizers and main course was enjoyed by my family. Sherlyn gave excellent service. It's definitely a special place. There are hotels room's attached, however, we've not stayed overnight.

Such a beautiful venue for a bridal shower! We rented the space next to the host stand and had a few tables set up outside. The staff was attentive, the bartender kept the drinks flowing and the food was so delicious. Complete with freshly cut prime rib and a mashed potato bar. We were able to arrive early and decorate. They even had extra vases and flowers we could use for outside. A wonderful venue!

The restaurant and conference center were excellent. The servers are their strongest part of their team, i hope they appreciate those servers. The lunch meals were excellent, they out did the dinner! The dinner was also good but not as good as the lunches. Just weird use of gravy (beef) on chicken. I don't think that was a good idea. The energy of the place is positive and i really enjoyed the property. There is a train that comes though every now and then and it shakes the place. Also some of he rooms had mold issues and some of our teammates had to be moved. Other than that, it was a good place and worth the money. Give them a go!

Really enjoyed our dinner here. I had roasted duck which was tender and flavorful with a nicely crisped skin. It came with sides of haricot vert and Yukon gold roasted potatoes. My partner had a Caesar salad with 3 scallops added. The menu allows one to add your preferred number of shrimp, scallops etc. Nice flexibility! The ambience is quiet and upscale. Drinks were generous, service impeccable and prices quite fair. We cancelled our reservation at another place for tonight so we can return here to try other offerings!

    The ballroom is beautiful!

Great wedding venue! The gold ballroom, the patio, and the grounds are beautiful! The food is delicious! Everything was perfect!

This is our first time staying at the inn and have dined at their restaurant a few times and always look forward to our next meal. The bartender poured me the best cocktails throughout happy hour and our meal. We were a party of 7. The service was and is always top notch, and was nice to know that some staff were still there after several years from our last visit. Every entree looked and had high reviews! Thank you for another fabulous dining experience! If you haven't been, take the opportunity and venture out to this Inn and restaurant, you won't be disappointed.

Inside the large conservatory complex at the Gardens, 1906 is the fine dining option when you visit Longwood. (There are other options for Longwood visitors who prefer a more casual or less splurge-y meal.) The restaurant is beautiful, with plush seating and beautiful green tones and windows that look out onto the fountains. It's definitely fine dining. They offer a two-course menu for $65/per person or a three-course menu for $80/per person, with many options for each course. We decided to do three courses each, with an enhancement, too (they offer a few courses as enhancements to enjoy before or during the meal that range $11-15). We couldn't resist - there was much we wanted to try. And what's truly incredible about 1906 is that so much of what they serve comes from Longwood's own gardens! In summer, 70% or more of what you eat might come from the gardens at Longwood, which is special. We shared: chilled watermelon (with lardo iberico, aleppo pepper, and sheep feta) as an enhancement; tune tartare (with cucumber, tomatillo, and veggie "chicharrón") and sunflower seed "risotto" (with a poached egg, marigold butter, and sweet pepper jam) as our two "beginnings"; agnolotti (with sweet yellow corn, pickled stone fruit, and Thai basil) and dayboat scallops (with tempura rock shrimp, charred scallion risotto, Fresno chile, and corn velouté) as our two mains; and berry cremeux (with lime chantilly, compressed melon, and watermelon mint sorbet) and stonefruit financier (with almond praline and fig leaf gelato) for our two desserts. Everything was very good - fresh, creative, and delicious. The desserts were easily our least favorite dishes (the berry cremeux didn't work for me - the texture and the taste made me feel like I was eating a smoothie bowl, and both desserts were too large), but that's being critical. All the food was very good. I had a glass of wine and an NA mocktail, while my husband tried two of their cocktails. All the drinks as great as the food. The service was outstanding. Our server - Ben - was incredibly friendly and helpful (he even gave me some places to check out in the area when we told him it was our first time visiting Longwood). He made the experience special. Another note about the incredible service - a little boy was sat at the table next to us, and I thought - is this a good restaurant for a little boy? What's he going to eat!? But they made him such an incredible meal with sweet touches - mac and cheese with goldfish on top and a dirt cup dessert with such convincing rocks made of chocolate, I was worried he was going to break his little teeth (but it was chocolate)! It was sweet; he loved his meal, and we enjoyed watching him experience it! That's the kind of service you can expect at 1906 - personal and accommodating and welcoming. 1906 isn't your only option for dining at Longwood Gardens. But if you're looking for a fine dining meal with a seasonal menu, the freshest of produce (a lot of it from Longwood's own gardens), and incredible service, make a reservation for brunch/lunch or dinner when you next visit Longwood!

Excellent good and drinks in a gorgeous setting…read more We didn't have a reservation, but we found two seats at the bar. The non-alcoholic drinks were refreshing on a hot day and made with fresh ingredients. Everything looked gorgeous, and flowers/plants make their way into everything. I can't visit Kennett Square without getting mushrooms, and their mushroom pate, with adorable mushroom-shaped toast, was delicious. Presented high on a ceramic stump, it drew the attention of those around us as well. The burger was good, but the tomato tartine was really delicious. We were at the height of tomato season, and the bread was good as well. The grilled tofu was a standout. It was served atop a herb-y sauce and looked beautiful with edible flowers and microgreens. We made a note to book reservations for our next visit. It is well worth a visit.

The food gives you that fine dining experience without the pretentiousness. The staff is warm and friendly -- shout out to Chet for his amazing service. They were also very accommodating to our son who was in between napping when we began dining, setting up a high chair for us in a way that would allow him to continue sleeping in his car seat. We started the meal off with some seared scallops that were perfectly arranged. Next, my wife had some seared tuna while I ordered the Colorado bison -- both items off of the special seasonal menu. The dishes were incredibly flavorful and the veggies that surrounded the meat added a nice complement. I also really enjoyed my California cab, as did my wife with her house Manhattan. We will definitely be back next time we are in Delaware, and highly recommend to anyone visiting the Hockessin area!

(Server rectified) The pasta carbonara was prepared using guanciale instead of bacon or pancetta. I found it too rich and almost over cooked. The duck wings appetizer my friend had were excellent. The fresh fish entree was delicious. The cheesecake dessert was a thing of beauty. I would probably try again, but it's a half an hour away. (We passed way too many other restaurants to try)
