We picked up some Cioppino for a classic Italian Christmas Eve dinner and my goodness, this was some of the best seafood I've had in Delaware and was even better than some of the seafood I've had in Italy! The fish was tender and just the right amount of salty. The red sauce was flavorful and hearty. It was everything I'd look for in a seafood dish. The quality of fish used was also notable. We paired it with some Chardonnay, which was lovely. We had ordered 3 trays of Cioppino and ate 2.5 of them, amongst 3 people..it was that good! It was $38 per tray, which I feel is really reasonable for the quality. Pickup was quick and easy and staff were so kind. So thankful and appreciative of those who are spending their holiday making it more carefree for others. This really made our Christmas Eve!! read more

From the start we were treated with honesty and a genuine desire to be customer centric. 3 of us went for dinner on a quiet Friday evening. The place was not busy at all. Our server was friendly although a little forgetful and slow. Food was excellent. I cannot understate this and am not here to criticize the server or any of the little things we thought were off because again, the food was excellent. The cocktails here are amazing! The lemon ice martini comes with two little scoops of homemade lemon Italian ice in it. I saw another table order a spritz tower with four different drinks (aperol spritz, limoncello spritz and some other flavors...I already had two drinks so next time). I got the cioppino which was great and had a ton of seafood. It came on a cute glass fish plate and was so much food that I had it for dinner the next night too. I loved the bistro and it's nice and cozy atmosphere. It got busy fairly quickly and there seemed to be regulars. I ordered the Limoncello Martini and it was light and refreshing, the lemon ice is made on site! I then had the garlic knots and an order of Arancini, crispy saffron risotto croquets for an appetizer. They were delightful! For an entree I ordered Timballo -a lasagna style pie with pasta and meat, covered in a red and cream sauce. It was a lovely surprise and was flavorful and very filling. It would be good to share! We almost left, but I wanted to try their food. Had their chicken noodle soup. Was ok,. Had their meatballs with Sunday gravy. Very good. My husband ordered the linguine with clams. They were out of clams, but offered other seafood, mussels, shrimp & calamari. He opted for the shrimp & mussels. Seafood was good but the linguine with marinara was tasteless. The music stayed loud. First time visiting V&M Bistro for lunch. Unfortunately the restaurant is only open for dining hours from 4:00-8:00, but they open at 11:00 for takeout. I had my heart already set on pizza and a salad for lunch so I ended up getting take out. I ordered a half cheese and half pepperoni pizza and a salad. The pizza was pretty tasty, the crust to topping ratio was good. The crust had the perfect bite, not too hard or too soft. I really enjoyed the ceasar salad. The home made croutons really added the perfect bite to my salad. The staff was also very friendly. After I placed my order, the waitress brought my order right out to my car. V&M Bistro is my go-to authentic Italian spot in Delaware. I've dined in countless times, ordered takeout and had several business meals there as well. The service is always terrific and because it's a family-owned small business, they make every effort to have your experience be memorable. A few of my family's favorite menu items are the Timballo which is like a lasagna pie (so cozy and delicious, my husband's favorite) as well as the chicken parm (classic style and portion is generous!) My husband and father also love the frutti di mare with ALL the fresh seafood. My personal favorite menu item that I recommend you try at least once is the gnocchi! I've had gnocchi in Italy and homemade in family kitchens and this remains my favorite gnocchi. Trust me! Just try it. The texture is perfect. You'll be craving it until you return. As far as other menu items, I definitely suggest the meatballs because everyone in our house loves them! Perfect to order to take home as well. Don't forget to ask about their dessert options. They make their own ice cream because they also own the ice cream shop behind the restaurant. Finally and equally as important is the bar menu. I've been ordering their Limoncello martini for years now and throughout the pandemic was one of the regulars ordering these martinis for takeout! I've enjoyed other drinks there but always come back to the Limoncello martini. They use their own house-made lemon Italian ice and I swear I've never had anything like it. We waited a while before we got our waters and had our orders taken. Our table got the angelloti and chicken parm. The angelloti was super mushy and lacked flavor. The chicken parm was a decent size (the chicken took up the whole plate) but the sauce lacked flavor as well. Maybe we should've just went with the pizza. Baby and I decided to give V&M a try after our first choice for dinner was too crowded. Don't think we'll be returning as the atmosphere and food did not meet our expectations. First off, the dining room was way TOO LOUD! The music was blasting and even after they turned it down at another customer's request, it still registered close to 80 dB. Definitely need some sound deadening and keep the music at a lower volume. To top it off, the customer at the table behind us decided to do a FaceTime call and we could hear every word. None of the staff thought to ask her to take her call elsewhere so as not to disturb other. For some bizarre reason, one of the TVs at the bar was showing an evangelical religious channel. Hard to see what message they're trying to send but I can't imagine it encourages drinking at the bar. It was pizza night (all 25% off) so we gave a couple a try. We were underwhelmed and they were overpriced (even with the discount). Small, very large crust, rubbery cheese, and bland flavors. Couldn't hold a candle to our favorites at La Pizzeria Metro. Received a gift card for V&M for Christmas. The fiancé and I were excited to try it; having lived in Delaware a few years ago, I had heard good things! Ambiance in one word: confusing. Upon entering the building, you walk into the general food pick up area for the to-go orders, which is fine just not what I expected. Inside the main restaurant, it is unclear if they are going for an elegant setting, vintage Italian restaurant, Brooklyn bar, or rustic feel.. they have a little bit of it all. There was also a tinge of an odd smell upon entering the main restaurant area of a musky older individual, like a smokey smell but not too overbearing; not what I would have liked to smack me in the face as I walk into a restaurant. Customer Service from our server was great, she had a good energy (some may say too peppy), but it was received to be a positive and fun place to be. She was very excited to take our order, she was attentive and did not make too long of a wait (despite it seeming they were understaffed and the three servers we identified were verryyy busy), and our server was very interactive too. My fiancé had a cold brew martini that was excellent and my glass of nameless Italian red blend was good despite the fact we could not identify the winery , varietal or vintage. Appetizer was ok, we ordered the Polpette (meatballs) in a red sauce named their "sunday sauce". Good flavor, fine portion for two people, nothing crazy. The main entree's... a swing and a miss. I was between two or three options so I posed the question for the servers recommendation and she replied with the Chicken Parm , so as I was informed, they are "famous" for. And my Fiancé ordered the Cavatelli with sausage and broccoli-rabe. The chicken parm arrived, I was shocked at the massive size of the chicken , thinking it was two pieces melded together with the cheese. Nope, it was one whole slab of a chicken. Hidden underneath was the one dollop of spaghetti noodles that were to accompany the chicken. The chicken was just about razor thin (see photo), the fried breading was fine but the chicken was firm, hard to cut, and did not seem fresh or tasteful. And the sauce was delicious. Overall, chicken parm 3/10. My fiance's meal was just plain and bland. No flavor, the sausage seemed boiled, broccoli-rabe had nothing to it, pasta had no flavor, very little sauce and not even salt or pepper on the table to spruce it up. Cavatelli dish, 1/10. We informed our sever that the cavatelli was less than desirable, then she took the plates away (after asking if we wanted a box .... ). We then had dessert, pistachio cake and some chocolate moose cake. They were good but clearly bought , taken out of a box and served on a dish. Customer service numero dos.. after having complained about the cavatelli dish, our server informed us that she had taken off the dish when she was dropping off the check. There was at least 20 minutes (when we were ordering and eating dessert) in between the time we complained about the dish and the check was dropped off. Our server did politely apologize for the cavatelli dish not being enjoyed and informed us she took it off the bill which was kind but un-needed. I realized that no manager or owner came over to apologize for the bad dish and ask if there was anything they could do to make up for it. I was kinda expecting an approach from a manager, as that would be typical in a good customer service restaurant, but as with the food, I set my expectations too high. LONG story short, if you even read this far, our $100 gift card was only consumes by a $76 bill and we couldn't use the balance to tip so who knows when/ how we will use the remaining balance , maybe to get a dessert to-go. I finally decided to try this place out and man it was a disappointment. First off 13 bucks for 4 slices of pizza is a little absurd. The pizza didnt have much flavor, the sprinkle of oregano on top pimped out the pizza. Besides that there wasnt much to it. The crust and bottom had a fantastic crunch though. So if you want a crispy Sicilian pizza this is the way to go. There was a fluff to the Sicilian which was alright but it gets overshadowed by the crispness of it. After ordering drinks from the bar, it took very long to get them. We ordered the bruschetta appetizer and it was not great. They had 3 different types and none of them had any flavor/seasoning/oil. We also got the garlic knots and they were delicious. We were all pretty underwhelmed with our dinner entrees. I would not go back to this establishment. Food was mediocre and the service was slow and very unfriendly. When the server brought our check after paying, she didn't say anything (thank you, goodbye, etc.) nor did she even look our way.
