I did not enjoy my food here, my partner did. I only liked the sausage, I found my french toast to be very dry. I also asked for no bananas and they quite literally hid them under whip cream specifically. Thank God I'm not allergic, they just overpower anything they are in and I tasted them immediately what a terrible thing to do to a customer. The real issue came with checking out. My partner, ask for the checked, she brought it and he immediately handed her his card. She takes it and starts to go but then the table next to us flags her down and she literally stops dead in her tracks to take care of them. Im talking taking full orders, answering questions etc meanwhile we are staring at her in disbelief. We have never had this happen to us in a restaurant. My partner said shes just a bad waitress, I believe it was implicit bias. At least im choosing to believe that over outright prejudice. Everything in her told her she could not leave these white people waiting while she wrapped up a check, but we, the black people absolutely could wait. It was just so bizarre. She was standing there that long with the other table with my partners card and check in hand that at one point she even glanced up because again, we have never experienced service like this and just blatantly held hostage while she tended to people she deemed more important. This was our only experience like this in Newport, we will back to Newport but will not be back here.
Honestly, this place is worth the wait in line. The line actually goes pretty quick. This was our first stop once we got to Newport early that morning. I am such a traditionalist when it comes to breakfast, as long as I am not at a Mexican restaurant. So my goto would be two eggs overeasy, sausage, bacon, some sort of potato side, toast and a side of pancakes, and that's why I ordered The Beast. When somone else at the table gets something different they are always kind enough to share, which what happened at our table that morning The son-in-law order an omelete and I want to say it had salmon in it, and he let me have a piece and it was delishes. Our daughter ordered a sweet breakfast called the Portley's Portuguese French Toast, she liked it. The service was great, fast and efficient. The place is small but it works. They only have one restroom, so you will have to wait for it. I would definintely come back for breakfast.
Actually pretty good. We came here to enjoy tennis at the Newport Hall of famed and wanted brunch beforehand They're very, very, very small place. It's very tight. The line goes around the corner. Since it was just the two of us. They moved us ahead and had a seated at the bar which is not my preferred seating. But whatever. Maybe because it was Sunday and brunch hours were prime. California special Benedict. It came with avocado, toast, spinach, roasted vegetables, home fries. I added some pork sausage. It was a lot of food. I couldn't finish it all. I also got a cup of tea. They're tee options are not great. The other complaint I would have is that their bathroom is really insufficient. They have one bathroom for the entire establishment which is not acceptable. They actually have a waitlist for the bathroom. WTF. I get that they're small but they really need to fix that. That's not going to fly when they're very busy, especially during brunch hours. I don't know what their parking situation is but most of it's on the street and on Sunday it's free. Overall I think the price is okay given the quality of the food. All of my food plus my friends was over $60. It's a little bit on the high side if you ask me but given the food was tasty, I'll let it slide. I think if you're in the area you should give it a shot
Love the food here. I ordered the california Benny. Potato is well season with pepper. Love the poach eggs, with spinach and pepper. Wife got the victoria omlette, which i think is ok, but she loved it. Kids got the French toast and pancake. They both love the food, and pretty much cleaned the plate. We sat in the corner, which is fitting since the name of the restaurant is corner cafe. It is a cute spot, like sitting in a bay window. Service is very attentive.
This restaurant is a must go to if you're in Newport, RI! There's always a line, but it's worth the wait and it moves so fast! The service is the best I've seen! The owner checked on our table and the waiter was so attentive. The ambiance was very comforting. There's a lot of people fit into a small space, but it still feels so spacious. The food is amazing! They give you great portions, it comes out hot, and it's very flavorful. There's a variety of options which makes it so hard to choose from. I wish I could eat here every morning.
Great service. Delicious breakfast! This is a very cute place but does get busy but we were able to be seated within 10 minutes. Food came out fast as well and service was wonderful. The breakfast was really good and the potatoes were some of the best I've had in a while. Tried the cowboy scramble but there's a lot of unique options! If you're staying in the area, it's a short walk and worth it !!!
My friend and I were in the area on a weekday to visit the Audrain Automobile Museum and based on some reviews, we decided to have some breakfast here beforehand. It's a cute place, with plenty of parking in the area and about a dozen tables inside. Although it was a busy, the food came out at a good time and the service was good. I decided to have a typical breakfast - potatoes, English muffin, eggs, and bacon with an order of French toast for dessert. I was mostly excited about the potatoes because of what other customers commented; I was pleased with the pesto like flavor they had. The bacon was cooked well, but on the thinner end. The English muffin was grilled with butter, delicious. The French toast was simple, and regular bread was used (instead of the thick bread) so the syrup was able to penetrate through better. I would be happy to come back and try other items since their menu has a lot to offer.
Adorable cafe in Newport. Cozy small got here very early and didn't have to wait but you could see how busy it could get. We're in the off-season too! Sweetest wait service .. love the accent!!! food was very yummy. Price is really reasonable. I definitely must go to for breakfast when in the area.
What a cute place! Beth was an awesome server who, thankfully, told me to try the Wooten's French Toast with the DELICIOYS, homemade Pecan Maple Butter before using syrup... great advice! I had 2 eggs over easy on the side as well. It is a popular place with delicious and unique food, so expect a line outside. YUMMY!
We heard so much about this place and finally got to try it out! We waited outside for about 10 minutes, and we're seated in a really nice comfy booth. Service was very good, all staff were friendly and kind! The food was decent. Really depends on what you get. The California Benny was delicious, perfectly poached egg, fresh ingredients with peppers and spinach. Home fries are the large potato kind. Do not recommend multigrain French toast with apples.. The mix of ingredients did not gel well at all. But the staff was very kind and gave us our money back! On the other hand, the spice chai latte was delicious! We wanted to come back and get it to go, too bad they do not take to go orders.
There was quite a line when we arrived, but we were seated in about 15 minutes. There was seating indoors & outdoors, but we chose outdoors because the indoor seating was quite dim. We ordered the egg, bacon, and potato sourdough plates & the Longhorn burger with fries, and the pancakes topped with yogurt, raspberry, blueberry, and blackberry. Everything was delicious. The potatoes were especially well seasoned, and the Longhorn burger was cooked perfectly. All the portions were good. The service was excellent. It was sometimes hard because our server was inside, but she was very nice. FYI, there are a lot of bees outside so be aware!!!

The food was excellent and service was too. Didn't know what to expect but I was not disappointed at all. Very quaint cafe situated on the corner. It's not very large but we were seated after a short wait. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend it for breakfast and I'm sure the lunch menu is good as well. read more

I come to Newport every year on vacation, but this was my first time going to the Corner Cafe. I was here for a few days with my boyfriend, and we saw all of the good reviews on Yelp when searching for a sit-down breakfast spot on our second day. We walked from our spot on Thames to the Corner Cafe and waited for 20 minutes on the first day because the line was wrapped around the building (and for good reason too). The first day we sat at the bar area, and we were immediately asked if we wanted any coffee or tea before ordering our food. Hands down one of the best (if not the best) chai lattes I have ever had! I loved how the mugs were large and all a different shape and design; it added to the quirky and cozy atmosphere. The first day I got the home fry fiesta with a plain bagel and my boyfriend got the cowboy scrambler. We both left full and wanting more (hence why we went back for a second time the following day). I couldn't pass up another chai latte, however we both switched it up and I got a California Benny while he got the Portuguese sweet bread scrambler. The portions were great and everything was so well made and seasoned. We didn't feel heavy or "bleh" after leaving. We are so excited that we found our new favorite breakfast spot while we are vacationing in Newport! Although this cafe is on the smaller side, the staff is on point and attentive to everyone's needs. Although we waited a little to sit each day we went, we were kindly brought to our seats and immediately given attention (which made ordering and getting our food very easy). All of the staff is constantly going; although we had our main waitress, other staff catered to our needs if we needed water or more napkins (we didn't have to wait around for someone to take care of us). Very hospitable, delicious food, and overall great place. Will 100% be back in the future!! read more

Gets very busy, expect wait times about 30-45 minutes. Other than that, we had a great experience. The staff is friendly and courteous, and the decor is very quaint. The brunch portions are generous, and very delicious! We got the California Benny and Longhorn Burger. Both are great, but portions were big - we took home half! We can see why this is a favorite on Broadway!! read more

Great cafe. Brought my daughter for her birthday. It is BYOB. They chilled our champagne and were nice enough to add the candles to my daughters pancakes. Super friendly staff. Everyone wished my daughter a Happy Birthday. The eggs Benedict, pancakes and oh the hash browns were delish! Definitely worth the trip. read more
Awesome breakfast joint! Late mid week morning, we got a table by the window. Service was so friendly, we felt like regulars. I had the Vermont omelet-- a unique yet surprisingly delicious combination! It came with two pieces of toast and potatoes. Very filling! Would def return! read more

What can I say, this place was fantastic for breakfast. We arrived around 9:10 AM on a Wednesday and had a brief 5 minute wait for a table for 3. We chose to sit outside and had a great table for 4 to ourselves. We ordered two of their great lattes and could get them iced even though it wasn't clear on the menu. If you're a fan of sweet flavorful coffees like my kids then you can go wrong with any of them. I opted for the vitamin C booster which was a fabulous blend of juices. We had three different breakfasts one a pancakes with side of choruico (Portuguese variety of mildly spicy pork sausage), one a loaded French toast (see pictures) which was so fruit filled, and an Athena omelette. The breakfast potato's were simply the best herbed, roasted and fried red and fingerling mixed potato's I have had on a breakfast plate. Can't wait to have them again. We definitely will be back ! read more

Corner Cafe comes up repeatedly when researching places to eat in Newport, so we stopped in here for brunch one morning. Even in the off season, there was a brief 20-min wait when arriving at noon, but the line moves fairly quickly. The menu is extremely extensive and upon sitting down, my friends and I were plagued with decision paralysis. I ultimately ordered the Home Fry Fiesta and swapped out the salsa for pesto. I also ordered a small glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. I'm pretty picky about my orange juice and I'm almost sure it wasn't actually fresh squeezed. The Home Fry Fiesta was yummy, but there was nothing outstanding about it. It was flavorful, but I did feel there was a little too much oil for my liking. I felt the same way when I tried my friends' other dishes like the California Eggs Benny. Overall, the food here is solid. However, I didn't think there was anything especially notable about this restaurant compared to other cozy breakfast spots throughout the Northeast. If the wait isn't bad, then it's worth popping in. Otherwise, it's a simple pass. read more

The morning vibes will keep inviting you back in & overall be trapped to coming here every morning as a local neigbor! If your in town you need to stop at this breakfast-brunch place! I came here with a friend for breakfast while visiting the area with her. We were able to get parking right outside on the street and was happy to see that we didn't need to pay! We got there around 9am and there was already a line of folks waiting to eat outside. But once we got in I could see why! Their breakfast menu was large and had a lot of great options. It was also reasonably priced considering the area we were in. I got an omelet which came with potatoes and toast. I'm not sure what the seasoning on the potatoes is exactly, maybe pesto?, but they were fantastic! Our waitress was friendly and quick to check on us. Overall I'd definitely recommend a visit. read more
EXCELLENT! What a great way to start the year. Decided to check this place out for New Year's brunch and here are my thoughts: Service: Quick and friendly, not pushy and totally accomodating. Food: Ordered a tuna melt that came with cheese, bacon and avocado. It was accompanied by waffle fries that happened to be the 'side of the day.' The portion was large so I ended up taking half of it to-go. Mom ordered some yummy eggs benedict with feta, sauteed spinach, red pepper, avocado and thyme roasted potatoes. Everything was super scrumptious and reasonably priced for the portion sizes! Atmosphere: Cozy spot that is great for catching up with friends or taking along the whole family. I read it can get very busy at times where one has to wait to have a seat but we got lucky/went during a time without a queue so we were pretty happy with the entire experience and will definitely be back! read more

I've been a frequent visitor to Corner Cafe for years, but I guess have just never gotten 'round to extolling its many wonders on Yelp for all to see in recent times! This small but funky brunch nook is situated in the heart of Newport's Broadway district, aka our answer to Greenwich Village (yes, Newport DOES have an artsy side!), and you'll find lines snaking around the block on Saturday and Sunday mornings with folks excited to get their fill of delicious grub! While I'm not sure the Corner Cafe is totally worth the long waits, which put Portlandia's "Brunch Village" skit to shame, I am definitely a fan of visiting for a weekday diversion (no better way to kill the midweek slump than with whole wheat pancakes!), or for the dinner seatings on Thursday-Saturday nights, which feature some of the best pizzas in town. It's also BYOB all day, every day, so you can't really go wrong! The menu is extensive, and has great options for folks wishing to indulge (Stuffed Sweetbread French Toast, anyone?), or lighter, healthier options for those of us who don't want to spend a weekend's worth of calories on one meal. I particularly enjoy the aforementioned whole wheat pancakes, which are delicate and flavorful, and come dusted with powdered sugar. The Garden Of Eden platter is another awesome pick - an egg white scramble with salty feta cheese and a host of grilled veggies atop a thick cut slice of multigrain bread - and even though it's low-cal, it doesn't skimp on flavor or personality! The staff is super friendly and the owners are also lovely and very present in the restaurant, bustling from table to table to make sure everyone is taken care of. Service can be on the slower side when it's crowded, so again, I would recommend taking advantage of the evening hours to visit! Not only are the pizzas top notch (the Blueberry Hill topped with ham, cheddar, and yes, fresh blueberries, is a winner), but they also offer rotating dinner specials, and the full breakfast / lunch menu! Nothing better than cracking open a can of locally made Spindrift Blackberry Seltzer and tucking into an Irishman Omelet for the best breakfast for dinner on the Island! Yum! Corner Cafe is a Newport classic for a reason, and absolutely worth checking out if you have time. Intrepid brunch-goers will be wise to visit before 9:30 AM or after 2 PM, lest you be prepared to wait and languish in your hangry glory! read more

This place is great! Seems like a go to spot, it was full with a wait when we showed up. The portions are large and food seems good quality. I had the home fry fiesta. It was delicious. It was heavy on the mushrooms and peppers though so very spicy. I was confused I guess on what to expect with it being a home fry title I assumed a little less of the other ingredients (mushrooms and peppers) and a little heavier on the potatoes and sausage but it was still good. I also had the cleanser juice which I guess I didn't ask if it would be fresh or not ( was not advertised as fresh on the menu) but it was definitely ocean spray mixed together which I should've asked for clarification. My husband had the Portuguese French toast which was delicious and he had no complaints. He also had the hazelnut latte which was chefs kiss best cafe latte I have had in a while. The staff works together lots of making sure patrons are taken care of. I loved the wide variety of options and will return asap. read more

Exceeded my expectations for brunch! Shared the California Benny from the breakfast / lunch menu and the special crab cakes Benedict... both were served on delicious thick cut multigrain toast with wilted spinach. The flavors for both Bennys were wildly different yet equally as delicious! Even more impressive were the home fries which were served in a secret spice that we couldn't figure out... some of the best we've had! Busy even in the middle of the day on a weekday, so I can't imagine what goes on during weekends. It's not surprising that Corner Cafe is popular because they really knows what they're doing... serving up excellent food and coffee with kind staff and a warm & welcoming vibe. Such a gem! Excited to come back for more next time we visit Newport. read more

This place is a must visit for the service alone... but the food is outstanding as well! The staff is super friendly and helpful, and the restaurant is a quaint, cozy place with indoor and outdoor seating. They serve breakfast dishes all day, as well as lunch and dinner options. I popped in to have breakfast for dinner; however, they had pizza options that looked too good to pass up. I went with their 'Lighthouse' pizza, a seafood (shrimps, scallops and clams) pizza with a pesto sauce, Asiago and Parmesan. It had a crispy thin crust and was jam packed with flavor. For dessert, I had a slice of rhubarb pie and it was flat out delicious too! I highly recommend you give this place a try! read more

The corner cafe is a popular brunch spot in the Newport area. We decided to try it and it did not disappoint. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito. I ordered eggs, home fries, sausage & bacon with a side of French toast. Everything was really good. Will return it back in the area! Deft worth the wait ;) read more
