My front tooth crown had fractured vertically during the snowstorm. Left a message, Doc called me back that night and squeezed me in the next morning. Overall the cleaning and X-rays for my visit went smoothly, but there was a bit of a mess when it came to billing for the visit. The practice told me that these services were covered 100% by my insurance, but they did not fully verify my coverage until after the visit, and it turned out my insurance was not in-network with Corner Dentistry. They said I was responsible for the negotiated out of network rate of $90 for a normal, preventative cleaning. Be sure to contact your insurance beforehand to verify that any services here are fully covered, otherwise you may have a similar issue. read more

I've been to Corner Dentistry a few times. The experiences, overall, were good. Most of my childhood dental experiences were traumatic and painful, as my parents couldn't afford proper dental care for me, and did not take dental health seriously at all, leading to many, many problems throughout my life. So Corner Dentistry was great for someone like me. They were friendly, conversational, and not constantly rushing me out the door. But I have to document this last experience, both as a counterpoint for anybody considering them, and for my own mental health as I sit here, alone and in pain. A few years ago, Dr. Katz worked on my teeth. My mouth is a lost cause, but he did his best. Dr. Katz even emailed me after the surgery to follow up and see how I was doing. I appreciated that. Fast forward to today. I've moved out of Philly and am in a new place where I don't know anybody, especially not any dentists. I've been having increasingly painful tooth discomfort, and since most of the local reviews for dentists here are obvious paid Yelp shills, I don't know who to trust or turn to. So I reached out to Dr. Katz via email - the same email he messaged me from a while back. I explained the pain I was having, and my uncertainties with a local dentist who prescribed an expensive procedure I wanted a second opinion on. A day or so later, a receptionist from Corner Dentistry called me and wanted some more information. I told her of the pain I was having, and that I was hoping to schedule an appointment there for a second opinion. The receptionist told me how heavily Dr. Katz was booked, and that he couldn't see me for quite some time. Naturally, I asked if any other dentists there could see me. Apparently, this was an offensive question. The receptionist rudely said that only one other dentist worked there, Dr. Concepcion, who is currently on maternity leave (congrats, btw), and that they are a small shop that can only do so much with a limited staff. But since I had messaged Dr. Katz "on his personal email" (said very rudely to me), the office was reaching out to see if I wanted to schedule an appointment. The receptionist said it sounded like I needed a root canal, and so I should see an endodontist instead of a dentist anyway, and that she could recommend a few. Just a couple quick points here... 1. Dr. Katz emailed ME from his "personal email", so that was the one I used to reach out to him. If he didn't want me messaging that email, he should have chosen a different one. 2. Why is a receptionist diagnosing patients over the phone? 3. When I began this dialogue, it was because I was afraid and in pain, and was turning to the only dentist I knew and trusted. Even though it would be a long drive to Philly and back, I was willing to invest the time and money. Now I am more afraid and in more pain, with no one left to turn to. I will get through this, I just haven't figured out how yet. But what I do know is that Corner Dentistry broke my trust. For anybody else out there who has lifelong dental trauma, invest your trust in somebody else so you don't get hurt like I did. read more

Up until the last cleaning, I would have rated this a 5 star business. Both Drs. Katz and Concepcion are USUALLY upfront, honest and responsive to any questions or concerns. Unfortunately, this doesn't appear to be the case anymore. The office apparently dropped my insurance (Delta Dental PPO), and became an out-of network provider in October 2017. That means that basic, six-month cleanings (which are normally covered at 100%) were only covered at 75%. This was not disclosed to me at the last cleaning, in writing or by phone at any time. In fact, Dr. Katz was downright deceptive in how he explained the changes, claiming MY insurance changed and the office now takes partial payment up front. At no point was I told we no longer were in network. Had I been told that, we would have simply chosen a different dentist's office which is in-network. In the end, my wife and my cleanings cost more than $150 (about $55 up front in credit card charges at office, and a bill for $112) when they should have been covered entirely by insurance. BEWARE of this unethical practice. I've attached the email I sent both dentists three days ago (March 27). I have waited to hear back from them before posting a negative review, but it's been a full three days since the email, and I have still not heard back from either dentist. Please make sure you are in network for basic cleanings. I would not recommend this practice because of the deceptive tactic they used. "Drs. Concepcion and Katz- I just got off the phone with my insurance company. My wife and my cleaning should have been covered at 100 percent. However, your office is no longer in network with my Delta Plan. Essentially, we are out $150 because of this, and I'm writing this to explain my disappointment in how this was explained. I've been going to your practice for well over a year. I started when I lived in the neighborhood and chose it because I like to support local businesses, and you were in network. You also had good Yelp reviews. When I booked my wife and my appointments and came in, Dr. Katz explained there were "changes" to the insurance which required an up front payment. I thought it was a little odd, but trusted his explanation. At no point did he tell me your office is no longer in network. He also made a point to say the amount we were charged via our credit card would be the most charged. He even mentioned a possible refund. Instead we received a bill for more than $112. Delta Dental says the practice decided to become an out of network provider in October of 2017. This should have been told to all patients it affected. I'm disappointed in your lack of transparency, and will now be taking our business elsewhere." read more

I can effectively say I no longer am afraid of the dentist at all (which is insane becuase i've had a visceral fear since childhood). Just got back from my first appointment and I am so glad they opened up so close to where I live. Wow! I live in the neighborhood and saw this place moving in as the salon that was there was closing. It got my wheels turning but I am that type of person who is SCARED of THE DENTIST! So I thought I would check out the website but probably go Jo further. I was wrong, they offer affordable alternatives to traditional Dental Insurance, which was attractive....so I sent an email just to see what it was all about.... They were timely in their responses, and after I explained my fears and they took the time to talk with me and made me feel comfortable to make an appointment. So I just finished about an hour ago and here's THE BOTTOM LINE....... A young couple who were both very welcoming, not judgmental in anyway, the office is a mix of classic South Philly with a modern twist. They had high tech gear and are willing to walk you step by step through the process and both are VERY easy to talk to regarding concerns. The appointment was PAINLESS! I felt so comfortable and at ease in the office, it wasn't stuffy or uptight. The work they did was AMAZING! They are very very thorough... Loved how they themselves are down to earth and they love the neighborhood as well. I would HIGHLY recommend hem for anyone who is looking for a dentist in the area! I have a lot of bad anxiety when it comes to the dentist due to a traumatic experience. The staff did an extremely thorough cleaning and they communicated what they were doing every step of the way which put me at ease. Super friendly and also made me feel really confident in their service. My only gripe is that they don't have individual rooms. I think there's space for two patients at the same time and the walls don't reach the ceiling. So you can hear the cleaning going on with the person next to you. But this will without a doubt be my new go to dentist. read more

The appointment was also great, they have very new technology and you can see the results of your xrays instantly while you are being walked through the state of your teeth which I thought was very informative. Corner Dentistry is clean, stylish and has all the new technology. The office wasn't uptight and put me at ease. Everyone in the office was very friendly and welcoming. An assistant took my x-rays first. Unfortunately, I don't remember her name, but she was great. After the x-rays, Dr. Concepcion she provided me a comprehensive dental exam/cleaning and filling replacement. She was thorough and went over everything in detail. It was calming because she explained everything she was doing. The visit was the most painless dentist appointment I've ever had and it included getting a filling replaced. As a local resident I walked by the office many times as it was being remodeled. After seeing all the good reviews I figured I would give it a shot (No pun intended). I am very happy I did! First of all this is the most unique looking dental office I have ever been to. It has all the high tech modern dental equipment in a restored old style office/ storefront. The tin finished ceiling combined with an authentic brick wall and polished wood floor is just perfect Each treatment room is airy and spacious. You don't get that claustrophobic feeling you have in traditional dental offices.with enclosing walls. As great as the office space is Dr. Concepcion is even better. Since they are just starting up she is doing all the cleanings personally.I don't want to belittle all the other hygienists I have ever been to but this was the most gentle, thorough cleaning I have ever had.She also has a great personality and really made the visit fun. If you look at my past reviews I take great pride in discovering local restaurants that are exceptional. I believe I have found a truly exceptional dental office and strongly urge anyone and everyone to call them for an appointment. I'd already filled out online forms so I only had to sign a couple of things in office. I signed up for the neighborhood plan, which at this time gets you two cleanings per year complete with X-rays and some other benefits I forget now but hopefully will never need! The dental assistant whose name I regret I can't remember took the X-rays and you get to watch your teeth slides pop up in seconds on a flat screen tv in front of you. It was fun. Bryan came in and examined the slides with me, explaining what he was looking for along the way. Then he did my cleaning. While I love my childhood dentist, he used to nick my gums a few times every time I saw him. Dr Katz was so unbelievably meticulous. He used a high pressure water cleaner tool, then followed up with the regular metal one to pick up anything that was left, then polished my teeth. The young couple that opened the business have only been at the office since August, 2015. They are a wonderful young couple and I can't say enough good things about their personalities and their professional skills. Their office is lovely and their equipment is modern. I love the dentist and always have (maybe a little weird, I know), but I really, REALLY love Corner Dentistry. They have great hours that work with my schedule, an easily accessible office and a kick-ass tin ceiling. Honestly, the last thing I want to stare at for 20-30 minutes while having my teeth cleaned is harsh fluorescent lighting and a cracked, decrepit ceiling, but the tin ceiling they have in their office is so nice.
