My experience at Dentists on Washington has been exceptional! Philadelphia focused and environmentally friendly practice; I support them in both these endeavors. Both Dr. Costello and Dr. Ngo provide thoughtful and compassionate care, and they are very professional while taking time to discuss my dental issues and concerns. I see that all of the staff, from the front desk, hygienists and doctors all want to get to know their patients well., and it is really appreciated. They take my insurance and charge what is reasonable for the care given to ensure my teeth and mouth are clean and healthy. read more

The office space itself is very clean and nicely set up. However, this dental office preys on patients who have not been to the dentist in a while. My mom came to this dental office as an excited new patient - she had been trying to find a Vietnamese dental office for a while now since her dentist has retired. Upon arriving, staff was very kind and the wait time was very limited. However, after having the X-rays and examination, my mom was told she had FOUR cavities and needs a ROOT CANAL. While extremely upset, she believed this news as she has not been to the dentist in over a year. Wouldn't anyone who hasn't seen a dentist in a while?? She was then quoted for an amount upwards of $3k due to her insurance being out-of-network. This completely stressed my mom out - not only that, the diagnosis of 4 cavities and 1 root canal caused her to be depressed for days until she saw another dentist for a second opinion. Brace yourself for the next part: her 2nd opinion dentist examined her and told her she DID NOT have cavities nor did she need a root canal! Mom was in disbelief and had to question the dentist again and again. And again, the dentist reassured her. This dental office cannot be trusted. They will prey on the fact that you have not been to the dentist and will tell you you need unnecessary things done to your teeth in order to bill you more. It is completely malicious and unethical. Our family will not be returning to this scam of an establishment. read more

Agreeing with another reviewer about this dentist being a scam. They quoted me for five cavities and I unfortunately believed them and had the work done and paid the money. My partner then made an appointment. She RARELY has cavities (she had one 7 years ago), and they said she had SEVEN cavities with five additional warning spots. My partner got a second opinion at a different dentist and in reality only had two cavities. It is a shame that I trusted medical professionals to prioritize their patients over finances. Everyone was incredibly friendly. I also had a serious TMJ problem that I asked for advice and treatment on, and they brushed it off. Two months later I had to go to the ER for it. read more

I'm going to have a mini venting moment. Let me start by saying the dentists here are great. I'm very picky with dentists so even when I moved to NYC and to Boston in the past years, I've always tried to come back to this dental office. However, there's a new receptionist that just can't seem to get it together. The second to the last time she booked my appointment, she didn't reserve enough time and actually tried to tell me to go home after an exam without routine cleaning. I don't get annoyed easily unless it comes to my schedule. At the time I was living in NYC so I had to travel far on top of having this appointment booked months ago. I'm very particular about my schedule because I travel a lot and have to book everything in advance. When she told me I had to leave and schedule another appointment, I was shocked and upset because of her poor choice of words/tone and because I wouldn't have had time to come back for months. The previous receptionist would have never made this mistake. So anyway, we worked out something that day and I waited an extra 45 minutes to get squeezed in. After that cleaning, I booked my next appointment. A few days before my appointment, I had to cancel due to being sick. I rebooked it via text on a new date the receptionist gave me. When that day came (today), I had a feeling the receptionist screwed it up again. I called this morning to make sure my appointment was confirmed and, as I suspected, my appointment was never scheduled. Mind you, I now live in Boston and came down early for the holidays to make this appointment. I know this person has no idea how far I travel or how busy my schedule is, but I can't help but feel there is a total disregard for their client's time. It sucks because I love the dentists and hygienists here--they're great! But I'll take this as a sign to look for a new local dentist in Boston. I hate trying new things, especially when I found something I really like but I don't have time for these types of mistakes. Side note: If you do happen to live in Philly and are more flexible with timing, this dental office is a great choice! You should def try it out :) read more

Had a tooth break in my mouth and I was pretty sure I'd need surgery. Not only did they see me same day as a new patient but the even gave me a significant discount to accommodate my budget. And despite the hospital saying they thought I'd need surgery the dentist here took care of my tooth without needed to do surgery. Great experience! read more

I had a lovely experience in this office. They walked me through the process of getting an exam, my insurance, and the cost of treatment. Everyone was kind and pleasant. Like other patients of this practice who complained here about being shocked by the number of cavities they were told they had, I also was told I had quite a few. Seven, to be exact. I was shocked and surprised, but I knew it had been a while since I had last been to the dentist, so I believed them. I was upset and nervous, but they kindly walked me through the treatment, the cost and the options. They even gave me a discount for paying out of pocket. The total was still so steep, so I decided to just get one tooth filled in order to double-check how much my insurance reimbursed for before getting the rest done. I later decided to find an in-network provider to fill the other 6, so the office kindly sent me my bitewing x-rays so that I was able to show them to my next dentist. I was incredibly shocked to learn from the new dentist that I did not have a SINGLE CAVITY. He himself was surprised too, and he said "If you came into my office and we took these x-rays, I would not recommend treatment." On a couple of teeth, he did find something called an incipient lesion, which amounts to basically a pre-pre-cavity. These are treatable (even reversible, with vigilant flossing and fluoride. (There were even a few teeth he said he saw nothing on!) It's hard to say who to believe, but I'm inclined to believe this doc, since he didn't make any money off my visit. We also walked through what a picture of a cavity looks like on a bitewing, and that is certainly not what mine looked like. I'm not saying this dentist was scamming me, but it does seem that they were very preemptive and aggressive in my treatment. As someone who had very few cavities her whole life, who was paying out of pocket, and who has limited funds to spend on health/dental care, it would have been nice to know that the fillings they were suggesting were essentially prophylactic. Even as I was tearing up in the chair, no one informed me that the things they found in my teeth weren't actual cavities. (An incipient lesion is NOT a cavity.) If not for the kind treatment from the dentists and hygienists, and the very good cleaning, this would have been a 1 star review. TL;DR: Cleanings are fine, but get a second opinion on treatment plans! read more

Dentist on Washington is such a great place - a family practice, the entire staff is friendly, the facility is immaculate, Dr. Ngo and Dr. Costello are highly skilled doctors and great people, and this is the only practice I've found where the dentists perform cleanings and routine work. In the past, dentists have always kept me on a need-to-know basis about my own dental health. You know the typical routine - they sweep in at the end of your visit, poke around your teeth with that metal pick and tell you if you have any cavities. If I needed cavities filled, I never really knew which tooth it was in or how big or small it was. I certainly was never given any suggestions for long-term care that might improve my dental health overall and possibly lead to less cavities in the future. That all changed when I started coming here a few years ago. I've read a few complaints about people being shocked when they were diagnosed with multiple cavities after coming here. I too was surprised with how many cavities I had at my first appointment, but that was because I hadn't been to the dentist in 2 years, and perhaps my previous dentists weren't as thorough either. I put-off getting the cavities filled, thinking that I'd get around to it later when I felt like it. Well, later came when I developed a really strong pain in my mouth and found out that one of my cavities had developed into a root canal. If I had just filled the cavities when they were found I could have avoided the pain and saved myself money. On the bright side, I got to watch Netflix while I had the work done! I have nothing but raving reviews for Dentists on Washington! Dr. Costello and Dr. Ngo are the most informative, caring, and talented dentists in the city! They'll always greet you with a smile (and make you love yours!). With a comfortable space like theirs, I've never felt so relaxed at the dentist before. Dr. Costello usually has a great selection of music playing in the background while he works, but if music isn't your thing they even have iPads mounted to the lighting fixtures so you can catch up on the Netflix show you've been hooked on while they work!! I've gone for cavities, wisdom teeth, and the standard cleaning. If i could leave a 100 star review for all these appointments, I would. They take care of business and are extremely knowledgeable so you leave knowing the proper aftercare post anything more serious than the normal cleaning. I went in with some nerve pain last week, and Dr. Costello was great and engaging the entire time. Letting me know the cause and extent of my tooth ache, while walking me through prevention steps and future care. Just an overall great experience. Update to my earlier review: I only made the initial review to warn others about the potential of not being reached out to and truly didn't think anyone would reach out to me. One of the dentists called me but I was in a meeting so I didn't answer and was reached out to via Yelp by a receptionist. In that initial message, they said they never got my online appointment request so I forwarded the confirmation to them saying it was sent. On the voicemail the dentist left, they said they have gotten 4 voicemails this year and mine was one of them... 4 voicemails and somehow I didn't get a call back? Upon review they said their web developer blocked certain email addresses so my message never made it to them or even went to their junk folder. In both the yelp message and voicemail they did apologize which was thoughtful but also felt like they were just trying to save themselves. I did try to make an appointment but they were out of network for me so it did not happen. While I did appreciate their attempt to make things better, it just sounded like excuses to me about the situation so I'm only giving them 2 starts instead of making it 3 stars. read more

This particular office is all around a great environment to be in. My daughter and I arrived and was immediately greeted by the receptionist and Dr. Costello. I filled out some basic paperwork and my daughter and I were well taken care. Dr. Ngo worked on my daughter and can't say enough positive things about her not only as a doctor but as a person. You can tell they care about their patients and take the time to get to know you. My daughter had a basic cleaning and two of her very loose bottom teeth taken out and had no issues at all. Their office is clean and well up to date and I felt very comfortable throughout my visit. The entire staff really seem to know what their doing and even offered us water upon our arrival. I was seen my Dr. Costello and what a genuine and positive individual to be around. He took the time to explain what he seen in my mouth and what should be done. He even shared with me some of his own personal experiences in life. He's an all around good guy. I highly recommend this dentist office as Dr. Costello and Dr. Ngo are a great team. I went in for a normal cleaning/exam, and the dentist told me I had 7 cavities, which was odd to me because I had had only one in my whole life that needed filling before. I didn't have dental insurance at the time, so I was hesitant to get them all done as it would have cost me over $1000. I asked if the cavities could be prioritized in order of urgency, and he replied that they were all of equal importance. I went back to the dentist I normally use to get a second opinion. He took X Rays again, and NONE of the cavities were problematic to the point that they needed to be filled. My usual dentist considered the approach of filling them all "overly aggressive." read more

Fantastic! I first visited Drs. Ngo and Costello on a Saturday afternoon with a dental emergency - a problem that my other dentist had repeatedly misdiagnosed and been unable to resolve. Drs. Ngo and Costello immediately saw what the actual problem with my tooth was, and stayed at their office well past closing to help me. They are both clearly very skilled at what they do but also genuinely care about their patients (and I had *just* become their patient when I walked in the door). My next appointment with them was to fill a few cavities - cavities other dentists had missed. Drs. Ngo and Costello walked me through the x-rays explaining each cavity and pointing out their positioning so I knew they were there. I can empathize with the reviewers here who (for some reason) believe they couldn't have had any cavities as other dentists had told them as much. It was disappointing to me as well (because I brush and floss 4+ times a day) but hey, you can't argue with an x-ray photo. The cavities were there, they needed to be filled, and they were - very well. No pain, quick procedure, no toxic fillings. Excellent! Their office is lovely, clean, and new - and it is the only eco-friendly dental office in Philadelphia. They are super trustworthy and clearly not afraid to tell you the truth about your teeth - whether the truth hurts or not (pun intended). I recommend their services to everyone I know. Not Good!! I never really post on here but I wanted to warn you all!!! I went here and Dr. Ngo said she found 15 cavities and gave me a price list of all it would cost me to fill each cavity. She said she could get started right away if I wanted. I have never had more than 2 cavities at once so I was very skeptical when she said 15. I asked Dr. Ngo to rank the cavities and I asked what were the most severe. She said all were very important and that we should fill all based on what side of the mouth they are on, not the order of importance. Medical health is like buying a diamond ring, you have to trust the person providing it. I sent my x-rays to a different dentists (family friend) and went into a third dentist. Both of the other dentists found 1 cavity. The third dentist examined my mouth and X-rays and said in order to get 15 cavities, Dentist on Washington would have to refill old cavities (which were in good shape). The staff are very nice and the office is clean. BUT it seems like they were just getting me to pay them for extra work !! BE CAREFUL!!!!! Has anyone else had this experience?? read more

I really love these guys. I've been coming here for about a year now, and the service is equally good every time. I've had some pretty horrible dentists in my lifetime, so I was relieved to find that everyone here is super friendly, prompt with seeing me (appointments usually never take longer than 45-60 minutes), and upfront about every procedure I've ever had done here. Unlike other dentists, I never felt coerced into getting braces or tooth whitening--instead, Dr. Ngo explained the pros and cons of both of these services, had another employee call the insurance company for me to see if Invisalign was covered, and gave me a price breakdown on the spot. Also, I love their other perks, like free chapstick that smells great and a bottle of water when it's hot in the summertime. The little things count. read more

I've lived in Philly for the past 2 years, and I've been a patient of Dentists On Washington for the last 1 year or so. I am SO HAPPY that I picked this place. I've been seen by both Dr. Ngo and Dr. Costello (husband and wife team), and they are both so professional, friendly, and informative. Each time, they were thorough in their approach (I had deep cleaning & minor cavities filled). They were accommodating, making sure that I was in no pain. Like the other review said, I would not mind sitting in their chair - I felt that I could talk to both of them for the whole day if I didn't have gauze and a sucking hose in my mouth! Their staff is extremely accommodating as well. I even asked the receptionist advice about switching dental insurance, and she came back to me with a detailed, handwritten list of plans that she'd recommend, after seeing my needs and appointment schedules. I brought my Son in today for his first exam. He is 2 1/2 years old. I was nervous since he cries even getting his hair cut. What a wonderful experience! From start to finish the staff was amazing. The office is beautiful and modern. They offered him a tablet with shows to watch and the dentist was so sweet and kind and most importantly went at his pace. I have been seeing Dr. Costello and Dr. Ngo for almost 4 years now. I have followed them to several different offices in that time span-so you can imagine my excitement when I found out they would be opening their own practice a stones throw from my neighborhood (queen village). The office located on the corner of 6th and Washington is brand new and easily accessible from anywhere in the city. In addition there is plenty of street parking as well as a large shopping center that I have never had a problem parking in. Like I said the office is brand new with a comfortable waiting room and really pleasant office staff- the staff is also very knowledgeable in regards to my insurance coverage and always explains in detail any questions I have regarding my coverage. The new office and friendly office staff are certainly pluses, but Dr. Costello and Dr. Ngo are the real reason I won't need to find a new dental office anytime soon. They each have such great personalities that I actually don't mind spending 30 or 45 minutes in their chairs. They constantly are making sure that the treatment is comfortable for me and explain the procedure as its taking place. I don't think I have ever felt an ounce of pain in one of their chairs (maybe I'm just lucky!) and if anything is uncomfortable I just is let them know and they adjust accordingly. Dr Ngo and Dr Costello are not only some of the most skilled and professional dentists I've ever visited, they are also extremely personable, friendly, and nice. The same goes for the rest of the staff. Being in their office, I never feel like just some other patient. I'm always greeted by my first name and with a handshake. The doctors have gone out of their way to accommodate my needs, whether it's figuring out the cheapest payment options and maximizing insurance benefits, to scheduling appointments that work for MY schedule. The doctors even saw me outside of their normal business hours (opened early on a Saturday!) because I had an emergency! Dentists on Washington knocked it out of the park for me on Saturday and I'm not even their patient! While flossing, I noticed something new on my gums that hadn't been there before and made the mistake of using Google to prematurely self-diagnose and scare the sh*t out of myself. In mid-panic, I looked up dental offices that were open on the weekend and decided on Dentists on Washington. I called after 8PM on a Friday night and got a call back within less than 30 minutes from an ACTUAL PERSON who was happy to schedule my last minute appointment. Saturday morning, I walked in and was warmly greeted by everyone behind the reception desk. They offered me bottled water while I filled out the necessary forms before they brought me back for my visit. I was seen by Dr. Ngo who was very kind, clear and concise. Before we got started, she specifically asked if I wanted a full-on exam or if I was only there regarding my particular cause for alarm. I went with the latter and she quelled my google-borne fears of mouth cancer and maladies abound. The receptionist (whose name I can't remember - sorry!) was especially helpful in finding the information online for my dental coverage because I had arrived without it. She was very patient with me and also very kind. I would love to be a patient at this office but my insurance (surprisingly) has categorized them as out of network. Despite that fact, an emergency visit to this office was only $50 which isn't bad for having your worries and fears immediately squashed on a sunny Saturday morning.
