I have to agree with several of the other reviews. I bought groupons for myself and my boyfriend. The dentist rushed us thru, told us both we needed over $6,000 in dental work. They tried to get us to sign up for a dental credit card, scared us into buying $100.00 worth of mouth wash. It was the WOREST experience for me and now my boyfriend refuses to see another dentist. Also the keep calling and sending letters to come back for our procedures. REVIEW UPDATE...I thought it was important to yelpers to update my review on this dentist. After my experience here I did find another dentist. I had my new dentist request my X-rays from Dr. Regni, not only did he refuse but called me AGAIN to ask me why I was not coming back to his office. Well Dr. Regni, your "treatment list" had services listed that I NEVER needed. I don't have a cavity and I don't need scaling! Once I saw my new dentist and showed them your price list it is quite evident that you are RIPPING people off. My new dentist is charging me only a few more dollars to pull ALL my wisdom teeth compared to what you were trying to charge me for just one. I, too, went to Dr. Regni's office (the one on Christian Street) on a Groupon, and I was pleasantly surprised, although in truth I think that I had a particularly positive experience because I was able to avoid any possible pitfalls in light of having read, in advance, other Yelp posts about this dentist. The office is clean and bright, and the staff welcoming and upbeat. I was taken into the examining area on time, and the dental hygienist proceeded to do what seemed to be a very thorough cleaning; she also took two x-rays (traditional style, not digital). The next step was an exam by Dr. Shah, the attending dentist (an employee, I presume, of Dr. Regni, who was not present in the office that day). She could not have been more professional or friendly; she was willing to explain to me, in excruciating (pardon the pun) detail all of the dental work that I need. In fact, her explanations were super clear and, from my point of view as a physical anthropologist, very accurate. She even had the dental hygienist take a third x-ray. A couple minutes after Dr. Shah's exam, I was given (to take with me) a print-out, showing in detail which teeth needed what work, and at what price; the print-out also indicated the urgency of the enumerated procedures, in case I wanted to budget for the more and for the less important items. No pressure was put on me to sign up as a full-fledged patient to get the work done, however; in fact, I was assured that if I wanted to borrow the x-rays in order to get a second opinion, that such was fine. On the other hand, not everything was perfect (what is absolutely perfect in life, after all?). Apparently, Dr. Regni holds himself out to be a holistic healer; not surprisingly, therefore, there is a big sign in the office warning of the dangers of mercury in dental fillings. This was no big deal; what was off-putting, however, was the in-your-face display of Scientology literature and the implication that Scientology's principles could help the patients of Dr. Regni, who himself is a follower. By the same token, within a couple minutes of having met the dental hygienist, she was trying to sell me especially "healthy" liquid dental care preparations. Luckily for me, I was prepared (from reading other Yelp reviews) for this sales pitch; in turn, the hygienist could not have been nicer when I told her that I did not want to hear about any products for sale; in fact, she then dropped it, and proceeded to give me an absolutely excellent cleaning. Bottom line-- my experience was very positive, and I may very well go back for the needed dental work, which I would have done by Dr. Shah. read more

Just as the other positive review experience, I bought a groupon to have my teeth cleaned. Dr. Regni was the most convenient at 9th and Christian. The office was small but not so small that it felt cramped. A nice size considering the buildings in South Philly. The hygienist did a wonderful job cleaning my teeth, being very gentle and paying attention to my sensitive areas. The doctor took a look at my teeth afterwards, declared no cavities and gave me tips on keeping my teeth clean (without trying to sell any of their products or procedures). Other than clean teeth, I walked away with a soft toothbrush that was an amazingly simple change to decrease my teeth being so sensitive. I did not experience any of the pushiness or scams that other reviews claimed, but I do get occasional calls and emails about coming in for the next cleaning at full price. read more

I went to see Dr. Regni to explore my interest in holistic/biological dentistry. I wanted more information about replacing a couple of old, damaged amalgam fillings. I came with no physical complaints related to the amalgams nor did I state any. Without x-rays or a discussion of the medical form I completed as part of the initial paperwork, he looked into my mouth for about a minute or two and then presented me with a printed dental work plan priced at around $9000 including autonomic response testing (ART) and nutrient supplements. We spent little time speaking about my teeth and about an hour seemed focused toward how ART and supplements could cure everything from diabetes to cancer. Maybe they can - I don't know. He demonstrated his ART evaluation techniques by touching closed vials of various substances to me while simultaneously trying to push my extended arm downward while I tried to resist. During this process I was asked if I had a cat (I do) and was informed that both I and the cat had toxoplasmosis. He informed me that we could both get supplements and be made well. Wow, this was really holistic- I was seen by a dentist, an MD, and a veterinarian. Joking aside, I appreciate the concept of holistic practice and its focus on balance, prevention and avoidance of chemical pollutants, and as part of my own medical management I use both conventional and non conventional treatment options. My experience did not meet my expectations. During our interaction the doctor possessed what I can best describe as an arrogate certitude about everything he was saying and appeared to respond to my questions or comments antagonistically, with condescension or disbelief that I was questioning his personal experience as a "healer", his description, not mine. He told me multiple times he was sorry he could not simplify the information for me enough, and that most people who come to him are already aware of holistic and or biological techniques and that more study on my part would benefit our working relationship. Toward this end, he presented me with a DVD to watch and a book I should read. I think the issue really was that I was not buying what he was selling. I am one who practices mind, body, spirit work and so I very much wanted to embrace this opportunity. The sad part is that there maybe amazing holistic/biological dentists practicing in the city, but this experience has taken the idea of finding one completely off my radar. Needless to say I would not recommend this dentist. The real kicker was that an initial visit which I was told would be $85 for an evaluation to remove amalgam fillings ended up being $150. I guess I paid for the DVD. Thank goodness I did not take the book he gave me - I don't think I could have afforded it. We went for a cleaning, x-rays, and exam thanks to Amazon Local. It was the most awful experience. The assistant claimed to find 3 serious cavities and wanted us to signup for a payment plan. Based on the earlier reviews, I wanted to get a second opinion or, at least, talk to the dentist himself. No dice. The hygienist just kept saying I was making a mistake and being cheap. The proposed bill was just shy of a $1,000. I said we'd think about it and get a second opinion and she just kept bad mouthing other practices! She said anyone else would use mercury which would cause health problems later on and we'd have to wait a month for another appt. In the end, they refused to give us the x-rays, much less show them to us so we could see just how serious the cavities were. Unprofessional, greedy, rude. DO NOT GO HERE. Even with a groupon, this place is not worth it. They try and sell you products the second you walk in and tell you that you need worth, you do not need. I have always had healthy teeth and previously, never had a cavity. After my cleaning and exam, I was told I needed 2 cavities filled, with their holistic treatment, and additional other work to confirm I did not have further dental damage. I was told the cost of the work would be $800 but that they had a payment system. I requested my charts and x-rays and made an appointment with the dentist I saw when I lived in South Jersey. He was floored by what they suggested I needed. I did not have two cavities, I had one issue with a tooth, which he fixed for a total of $121. Just got done getting my teeth cleaned at this practice thanks to groupon and overall for the cleaning i am satisfied with. everything else just felt like a scam. from the assistants to the dentist himself. they piled up a list of stuff i need done with my teeth and totaled to almost 3500. and they kept going on about how i needed to get it done or else i might regret it and stuff. trying to scare me and what not. the only reason i went there was because of the cheap alternative and will NOT hesitate about thinking to come back here even if theres a groupon for a 20$ teeth cleaning. read more

Like most others who are reviewing this office, I went using a Groupon for a teeth cleaning, x-rays, and an exam. As I have been out of work and can't afford health insurance, you can't beat $35 for this! I actually was even luckier than having to spend the $35 because I had Groupon bucks and went for free. That being said, the staff was all pleasant and nice and I got a thorough cleaning which was my priority. However... they would be better off getting away from the crappy Right Dental Group sales pitch path because it has scared me away to return. What do I mean by that? Well, when I hear that I am getting X-rays at a dentist, I expect a thorough set of X-rays... not just one general snapshot from each side of the mouth. X-rays at the dentist are usually 6 to 8 shots and they are blown up, observed, and shown to the patient. These 2 teeny tiny shots were not blown up to a larger size and were actually used to try to explain things to me, but didn't really show anything because they were so small. I also was told I had the small start of 2 cavities and had to take care of it in the next 6 months. Oddly, I was told the same thing 2 years ago so apparently nothing has gotten worse. I was also advised that my entire mouth needed scaling which is incredibly expensive and 90% of the time unnecessary for someone at 30 with generally good hygiene and teeth like myself. I was told once before a few years back I needed it, too, but, if you are ever told this... RUN!!! It's pretty much a scam by a struggling dental office to give you a bill of $2,000. Why would anyone agree even to payment plans of services that cost anything like this from a dentist they have only visited once. I'm not saying this office isn't nice or legit, but I am saying that other than the cleaning, it becomes one huge sales pitch... buy a water pick, buy an electric toothbrush, get the cavities filled, get the mouth scaled, refer your friends for consultations that just include x-rays and an exam and get discounts on buying dental tools... spend money! I'm not faulting this office for it... I'm just faulting them for getting involved in Right Dental Group. Additionally, Right Dental Group sends emails once you've used their services rather regularly and... they are appalling! Here's some of the subject lines from their ridiculous emails: "Save Up to 60% on Every Hair Styling Product in our Store" & "Save 49% on the Eat-Right Kitchen Scale" & "Save 61% on BeanPad for Your iPad ." I kid you not... these are real email subject lines from Right Dental Group. Do you want to go to a dentist that participates in this type of crappy spamming?!?!?!?! Lastly, what made me most uncomfortable? Being asked to do a survey that would be put online, but not writing the answers. The incredibly sweet and capable cleaning assistant who I do not fault at all was just doing her job, but her job was to ask me questions about my experience to put online and write down my verbal answers. I acquiesced and said nice things. It just was the approach. I had already seen some negative Yelp reviews and intended on writing something positive, but I've never had a verbal survey done where I couldn't just fill a form out myself. And I didn't like that I was letting someone else post something online on my behalf for their press. And so... that's why I've finally taken 10 minutes to give a proper and fair review. I went there one time with my 4 yr old son and will never go back. The office staff is very unorganized and the communication between the staff is horrible.. If I hadn't asked questions then I would have been charged for the work I didn't get done. The doctor and his assistant seemed like they didn't care for hygiene while working on my sons mouth. The equipments were touching the doctor and the assistants clothes since the space is very tight. That's no excuse in a doctors office. At one point I even saw the doc wipe the little mirror that goes in the mouth with his scrubs that he was wearing. It was disgusting. The staff keeps calling you to get an appointment but doesn't bother to pick up the phone to file the insurance claim. I had to call after 6 weeks to find out that they didn't have my insurance info on file . I was left disgusted and annoyed by the whole experience. read more

I went on a Groupon and had a good, thorough cleaning. I did not take the x-rays because the Tasker St office does not offer digital x-rays despite the fact that it is supposed to be a holistic dentist. Weird. Anyways, it was a good service and though they did try to push a few items to sell at the end of my appointment, I had a good service. My teeth are pretty clean though (floss, rinse, and brush regularly). I wonder if their service had anything to do with the fact that I insisted to get a 2nd opinion before I proceeded in getting a cavity filled for $250 at their offices. :P read more

The reviews on here had me slightly more terrified to see the dentist than I already was, but I had already bought the groupon and my teeth needed to be checked. My experience was great-staff was friendly, office was nice and the checkup was thorough yet quick and nowhere near pushy. The suggested some products but I didn't feel at all forced to buy them. The financial assistant they had me talk to at the end was the closest thing to pushy there,and after a firm no regarding a credit card she happily let me go on my way. I am a transplant to this area. The times that I have gone to see a Dentist have always been for a cleaning using a Groupon or via a referral. I know I have a couple of things that have needed to be repaired but they are not critical and do not cause me pain so I've never had them fixed. (Small wear and tear openings at the gum-line that need filling). I was using the cleanings as an opportunity to screen for competency. Honestly, I've been underwhelmed with the dentists that I've met in Philly. My teeth were poorly cleaned, I've experienced pain and an overall lack of professionalism which is why I am commenting here. Dr Regni was the fourth Dentist I visited and I have since returned a couple of times. My teeth were cleaned well, I was not presented any holistic dental package, nor was I pressured to sign up for a long-term treatment or payment plan. As I stated, my teeth were well cleaned, the openings were identified and I was provided a price. That was it -- and no I did not commit to having Dr Regni make the repair. I didn't even schedule my next appointment at that time although I have since returned and had one of the openings filled. It is a moderately small office, (it's on a street of South Philly office fronts, ofcourse it's small). A handful of staffers and admins and the hygienist seem to make up the staff. It is comfortable, they are polite. There are dozens of current magazines and a wall-mounted tv to entertain you while you wait. Do they give you follow-up calls? Yes they do but in this day and age I do not find that off-putting. People will let their teeth slip down the list of priorities, they will reach out to try to make themselves and your teeth a priority. And finally on cost, I did not have a current coupon when I was settling my bill although I mentioned that I had received one. They gave me the discount on the spot, and I appreciated it. I went here to get my teeth bonded, because whitening was not an option for me and other dentists wouldn't do it. Dr.Regni gave me a consultation and tried to offer me other procedures as well, but I stuck to what I came in for and left very happy. He said he also fixed my gum line and evened out my teeth for free so that I would be pleased with the overall result and I am. I only wonder if I should have went whiter or could have gotten a better price, but if I decide I need more work I would definitely go back. I had a crown replaced on my back tooth at this office. It is still painful and I have an uneven bite after 3 months. Food gets caught in that area and I MUST floss it out or suffer with the pain it causes. After the original repair and two follow up visits the problems are still here. This work cost me a fortune unfortunately it was money wasted. I was told at the time that crowns could last up to twenty years. I'm saving to go to another dentist to have this bad work removed because I don't want to live twenty years with this aching tooth. read more

Okay let me start off by saying Wow, I'm honestly so happy I chose to come here, like I could cry because of how happy I am. I recently had an accident that caused my front tooth to be broken right beneath the gum line. When I tell you I went to and looked up probably every dentist possible I honestly did. From New York City, New Jersey, Virginia, Delaware you name it. However my search was over when I saw great reviews online about Dr. Regni, I decided to go in for a consultation and he told me my options which at the time I honestly thought my only option was to get an implant but based off of his examination of my teeth I was able to get a great alternative, a butterfly bridge. I am honestly so happy that I was able to do that instead and hold off on the implant for now. Based on his personality, expertise, and his honesty I knew I had finally found the right dentist! I asked when was the earliest I could get the procedure done and he said we can do it now if you want to and I immediately was like yes! (I'm coming from NYC so being able to get this done right away was very important to me). However, I was extremely nervous about the pain I would experience during the procedure, he told me it wouldn't hurt and I had nothing to worry about like yanno most dentist usually say but he was 100% right! It didn't hurt at all! Like I have a 0 pain tolerance and I was completely fine. Easy as can be! As far as his staff, they're honestly so amazing! They probably sat with me for an hour talking about my options for payment which I am so thankful for, they were so sweet, kind, and willing to find the best options for me to be able to go on with the procedure. They have two options that ended up working out great which was Care Credit and another program, I unfortunately forgot the name of. I literally felt right at home during my whole experience there, they actually care about their patients and are doing their absolute best! I was so happy with how everything turned out, I feel way confident about myself and I definitely will be coming back here it is 100% worth the trip from NY. Thank you so much!! read more

Today (5/4/15) was my third visit to Dr. Regni's office. He was running a little behind schedule, and came out to the waiting room to personally apologize and let me know he would be with me shortly. I had been going to another dentist for years but it was a hassle getting to him so I decided to give Dr. Regni a shot because he was very close to me. I went in for a check up/cleaning and by the time I was done in there they had told me that I had multiple cavities and the work would cost over $4,000. That day I only got the cleaning done, opting out of the work they said I needed. I decided to go back to my other dentist to get his opinion. I hadn't told my original dentist that I had seen Dr. Regni. I wanted to see what he had to say about my teeth. To my dismay he told me that there were NO cavities present and in fact my teeth were in great shape. I was shocked by this and because of that I had to write this review. I don't think I've ever written a review on any business but I felt I was obligated to let other people know to stay away from this dentist. It is a complete sham and they just want to do unnecessary work to rack up the $$$. I had a filling done that came out less than a week later. The dentist claimed that it was because it was in a "difficult area" to do a filling. Not only that but they don't accept insurance, and while they offer to file insurance claims for you, the reception staff can't even check patients out properly, let alone file the paperwork. They didn't file a claim from 6 months ago, and when I asked them to correct it at my next appointment, they screwed it up every time I called them, for months. It still is not resolved and now I am out hundreds of dollars out of pocket. They do not care, since they have their money already. Terrible service all around, and not worth months of financial headache, and hours and hours of calls trying to straighten out claims. read more

I went to see Dr. Regni because my coworker said he was a good dentist. I knew I had 3 or 4 cavities and I was right. I had 4 cavities. I only had a one hour appointment so I figured I was only going to have time for maybe 1 or 2 in this visit so when the doctor asked me if I wanted to do all 4 in this visit I said why not? I have been to a dentist in several different countries but this man was by far the better of all of them. He put something on my mouth before he used a needle to num up my teeth and I swear to you (te juro) that I never felt the needle and I never felt him drilling the four teeth. Everyone was super nice and I was so comfortable the whole time I was there. I had no discomfort at all. Dr. Regni is really a good man and a good dentist. I very much recommend him. read more

This dentist is not an honest person. Went there for basic cleaning and have not stopped receiving "cold calls" from his office since then. Although I am young and have healthy teeth, he worked out an in-depth dental plan of "work" I needed done costing thousands of dollars. I declined, but his office calls me all the time. I read the other review and I also heard the words negative energy and other Scientology terms. Hold onto your wallet and go somewhere safe. read more

COSTS OF SERVICES ARE NOT MADE CLEAR!! I made an appointment for the exam/cleaning/xray special they had online. When I got there Dr. Regni looked in my mouth for about 3 minutes. Then told me I needed about $6000 dollars worth of work done. He discussed a couple of the procedures I needed. He drew a picture of three of my teeth on the paper they lay the tools out on, all while I was lying in the dentist chair. This informational part lasted no more than 2 minutes. In my opinion, if I needed $6000 dollars worth of work, a more formal consultation was in order. After that he had me take 18 xrays which cost an additional $225. The exam/xray/cleaning special does not cover more than 2 xrays. He never discussed any findings after taking these xrays. Only because I had already paid for it, I foolishly scheduled my cleaning for the following week. Before they began my cleaning they said, "we'll have to do a really deep cleaning because you haven't had one in a while." Nothing was mentioned about a price difference. Although its true I have not had a cleaning in some time, the procedure seemed the same as any cleaning I have had in the past. When It was over I was informed that I now owed nearly 500 dollars for the cleaning. This was almost 5 times the amount we had discussed. I would not have had a problem paying a little more, my teeth were not in the best shape, but 5 times the regular cost?! The dentist then informed me he had told me all this in my exam. I told him my exam was very brief and he never mentioned a cleaning this expensive. He then told me he doubted that was true and I "flunked" the understanding part, whatever that means. I not only felt mislead, but I felt completely scammed. I knew if I didn't pay they would send my bill to collections. AS FAR AS BEING "BIOLOGICAL/HOLISTIC" This was the initial reason I went to Dr. Regni in the first place. After two visits I noticed no difference between his office and any other office. He never explained anything to me about why his procedures are more holistic than anyone else's. On my first visit they gave me a complimentary tube of a non holistic toothpaste, full of unnatural chemicals. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS DENTSIST. read more

I do not recommend going to this dentist, even if you got one of those free consultation and x-ray cards. I'm really healthy and in my early 20's, and Dr. Regni told me I needed more than $6,000 of work on my teeth. This included root canals, which is a pretty intensive procedure. Turns out after I went to my trusted dentist that I have a few cavities which will cost me $60 each to fill, rather than the $250 each that the "holistic" dentist recommended. I felt strange that it was difficult to leave the office without the (very kind) women up front pushing me to sign up for a payment plan. I really felt awful when I left, thinking of ways I could somehow make enough money to pay for all of this, while simultaneously feeling extremely skeptical about their practices. I work in the arts and social services and am paying off college loans; I really don't need more debt or financial stress if it's not completely necessary. Turns out it was NOT completely necessary, and that he was obviously scaring me into thinking I needed serious dental work. I'd like to think it's not intentional, maybe he's just rationalized so much that he completely believes his own words. Who knows. All I know is my actual dentist made me feel super safe and secure whereas this "holistic" dental practice made me feel like I needed to sell an ovary to afford paying for unnecessary (and PAINFUL) dental work. For true holistic care, trust yourself and your own intuition. I did and thankfully did not waste what little money I have to give a creepy dentist some extra dough. read more

Bizarre experience. Was shown vials of gross looking fluids from China and muscle testing to see which to use to help with my periodontal problem. The hygienist keep stabbing my gum with her fingernails despite my pointing out the problem and seemed minutes out of training. I had to ask her to take a brush tool afterward to smooth over the cleaning patches. Was offered products to buy, though I didn't find them pushy about that so much as about the "alternative/holistic dentistry". I went to Dr. Regni for a broken wisdom tooth. I have always been terrified of the dentist so I decided to try a new one to see if maybe it was just a bad dentist I had been seeing. Dr. Regni has restored my faith that getting dental work is not the end of the world. The front desk staff as well as the girls that worked with him in the back were all extremely friendly and made me feel very comfortable. When I went in I was hoping to maybe have the tooth capped or just filled in, but he told me it would need to be extracted as well as the one below it. I have never had any kind of oral surgery before and was absolutely terrified. But he assured me that it was a simple procedure and gave a prescription for something to calm me down before I went in. That definitely helped and the actual procedure of having 2 wisdom teeth removed (while being completely awake) took less than an hour and was completely painless! I think the only thing that hurt were the needles for the novocaine... I do have to say that it is pretty pricey, I do not make a lot of money and $900 to have two teeth removed did set me back a little but, but at least they submit everything to the insurance company for me for reimbursement instead of having to do it myself. Difficult to imagine a worse dentist - the whole experience was just a "holistic" scam to part me from my money.

I found Dr Regni on the internet as I was looking for a Holistic dentist. He ran a special for a full set of X-rays. The X-ray was $68.00 for a partial view of the upper teeth. Money thrown away. Then he tells me he does not accept Any Dental Plan and I would need $11,000 worth of work. From there they tried to sign me up for a dental credit plan, Credit Care, it would only take a minute. After 10 minutes of hard selling they gave up. I left to never return. They followed up with phone calls and mailings looking for referrals. An extraction that he wanted to charge $600, cost me $147 in center city. This guy is trying to get rich over night, but not at my expense. This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a yelp review. Went about 6 months ago for a cleaning and checkup. I read all the negative reviews about sales pressure and overcharging but was interested in seeing what a holistic dentist was all about. While my teeth were being checked it was quickly identified that I had around five cavities located on my back teeth. I was shocked as I had just been 6 months ago to another dentist who identified no cavities and said my teeth were in great health. At the end of my checkup at Regni's the receptionist handed me a dental plan for about $2,000 and tried to pressure me into signing up for a appointment. I left feeling overwhelmed and perhaps worried that I really did need about $2k worth of dental work and was wondering how I would pay for it. The reason I decided to write a review is I just went to a new dentist last night. Checked my teeth and like the first dentist I went to said my teeth are in great shape and have no cavities. I explained to him that the previous dentist I went to said I had five cavities in my back teeth and he went back and checked the teeth again and said no you are in the clear your back teeth are fine. Sad to say that my experience was the same as many others, no existent cavities and an expensive plan that I luckily didn't fall for. read more

Very Interesting. After leaving the dentist's office and driving home I was thinking, something is not quite right. Couldn't quite put my finger on it. But after reading the other reviews I now understand my off feeling. This dentist seems to get you in with a coupon and some xrays. Priced very well I must add. Love the fact the he is natural and holistic. Very nice guy too. After that though it goes downhill. The office is very cramped. I got my teeth cleaned and he looked in my mouth for less than 2 minutes. Talked to me about NRT ( I acted dumb but actually have had this done before) I sat and listened. He said I will show you about it after your cleaning. My cleaning was done. The hygentist then placed a treatment plan on my lap for $2,000.00. I am like what. The dentist came in to explain that I should have NRT done for $475.00. I have had this done before. It was $200.00 for two hours of extensive testing). Then he put $500.00 for nutrients?? HUH??? where does that number come from. After reading the other reviews and thinking about it I felt like I was being sold. I cant really tell you if he is a good dentist or not because he did not do any dental work. I can tell you that he looked in my mouth for two minutes and handed me a treatment plan bill for $2,000.00. When I checked out I was told by the secretary that he offers a no interest payment plan..Hope this helps someone else making a choice to see him or not. read more
