I've found the food at the Cornerhouse to be really hit or miss. It usually sounds better than it tastes. Though this short rib chef's special of the night I had the last time I was there (fall 2023) was phenomenal. Tender meat with a bit of that silky fat mouthfeel, and really tasty. I would go back for that. And recently had their seared scallops which were cooked perfectly. However my dining companion's striploin was just meh. I'm giving it 4 stars because I really like the ambiance, and despite the food being ok, I've always had good service. They have different rooms depending on who you are with - I find that large groups tend to be seated on the main floor, while couples can have a quieter meal on the second floor. In the summer they have a nice balcony patio off the second floor dining room but they also renovated the first floor so that you can sit right at these large patio doors that open right onto Main Street. I also like their commitment to sourcing ingredients locally. I'm willing to keep giving them another chance. read more

I wasn't able to take a proper picture of the restaurant, but the decor is so nice. I love how they set up the patio tables and even added plexi-glass or greenery to separate the tables for physical distancing. They have signs all over the restaurant, had a temperature station at the front, and even instructions at each table. I think they put in a lot effort and kudos to the management team for doing this. When looking at menu items, the restaurant has supplied QR codes for customers to scan for a digital copy. Great job! Now we get to the food part. I think everything was mediocre at best, and that's completely okay. The major issue I had with this restaurant was the pricing. I totally understand that COVID-19 has given restaurant owners a lot of stress but charging $12-13 for wedges is stretching it. It was also too salty, but mistakes happen and we can let that slide. Our ravioli dish was actually really good, but there was only ONE PIECE (yes, it's a larger piece but c'mon). The risotto had the right texture, but the boys found it a bit bland and underwhelming at a cost of around $22. I actually have no complaints about the shepherd's pie or the chicken stew, I'd recommend both of these dishes. Our waitress disappeared a couple of times, and another had to keep coming in to help, very thankful that she was there to support a teammate. Lastly, we were charged $10, and it was labelled "table charge". I looked it up after and found out the restaurant added a charge of $2.50/customer for COVID-19 cleaning costs. I wish they were upfront about it on the bill, or at least had their waitress explain it. We let it go because we didn't want to make it difficult for the restaurant. Overall, I don't have major complaints, but the little things do add up. I think the restaurant can improve a lot in the future and I understand re-openings are not meant to be easy. read more

Unfortunately the food, menu and no beer taps cannot keep pace with what should be one of the best places in town" I've lived in Stouffville for over 5 years and for all of the time I've lived here, The Cornerhouse was a place I've wanted to try. it was recommended by other residents but I was always hesitant given it seemed like more of a high end place that needed a special occasion. as time had gone on, they've undergone renovations which I must say is both unique and very cozy. lots of unique dining "zones" with equally nice lighting, decor and space. in my first visit the rooftop patio was a must-try and for the space it seemed like a great spot. not that many stairs and you pass the other zones which are great to look at. I'll skip the specific design and service parts as really those parts were great and as expected from a place like this. what I expected from a place like this is a robust menu, local sourced and inspired selections, good value, and fresh, well-seasoned fare that satisfies every taste. what I saw was a place that really focused on trying to sell its bar and drinks menu which is by the way, very expansive and priced like its a premium location, (I.e. house wine bottle is about $45) and your 16oz microbrewery local IPA pints are about $10 - $15 the menu seemed like an after thought though. it really was just a combination of light snacks, sharing plates, individual pizza and the like. not too much to really choose from. not many traditional main courses like a steak lamb, or big seafood dish. What we did order were the jalapeño and pulled pork pizza ($19) and the jalapeño pulled pork popper ($18) with Mac and cheese . which if you close your eyes are essentially the same thing. I loved the concept but where they both fell apart is lack of seasoning and lack of really any flavour. both were super bland. seriously, I doused the Mac and cheese popper with table salt and it really didn't take it up enough. the panko was the only thing you tasted because it was crispy otherwise nothing else had any flavour. it was bland as if seasoning was out of stock or the food was made for a crowd of people who don't know what flavour is. I took half of it home and thought hey I can give it another shot and add some salt and pepper and reheat it in the oven. nope. still tasted bland. such a waste. the pizza, while served well, tasted very much like a freezer, store bought pizza. the crust was undercooked surprisingly and could've really benefited from a wood fire oven tbh. it had no real differentiation and was all of the same bland ingredients from the popper. at almost $20 each they really disappointed and made me agree with a lot of the Yelp reviews and current Yelp rating (2.5 stars). Overall I have to give this a hard 2.5. bland food but great everything else. I can't cheat you though and fluff up the rating by giving a 3 so I give it a 2. sorry Cornerhouse. If your menu changes and does better I'll come back, but for now, enjoy having the only rooftop patio in town. that seems to be the best part. read more

A restaurant set into the homey atmosphere of a house with great service and a good environment to enjoy your meal. There was a bit of a questionable moment in the beginning, as I walked in and there was no one to great us. I had to stand by the door for a good 5 minutes before anyone saw us. It might be because of the configuration of the house, since it isn't open concept and the server had to move from room to room constantly during the night. I had the Salad Bowl, which was a mix of a bunch of greens with nuts and black rice. A good texture combination and one of the lighter options available on the menu. I'm not sure what about this place makes it 'French' though, since most of the menu items can be found in most restaurants. Also, I would have given the place a higher rating if it wasn't for the price. My salad without any protein was $15, while a burger can easily be $20. That is easily more than most restaurants in downtown Toronto. A good place to come if you want to treat someone, but definitely not for the everyday meal. read more

This place has changed hands a few times over the years but still can't live up to the food from the couple of twenty years ago. We ordered our overpriced items and recieved it in a short period of time. My wifes' twenty five dollar burger was under cooked and she sent it back only to have it returned once again under cooked and bloody. I had already finished eating my fatty piece of chicken when her meal was returned. We asked for the bill and I asked the server why the burger was on the bill and her reply was " you ate it didn't you". Was looking for a place to have brunch in the burbs and found Corner House. It's a pretty nice restaurant with friendly service and good food. Tables are covered with white linen and for Easter they left chocolate eggs on the table for customers (cute!). I both ordered the the Eggs Charlotte ($12) which was basically an eggs benedict on their homemade scones with smoked salmon accompanied by potatoes. It was really good - the salmon wasn't salty (I've had previously overly salty salmon run-ins before so I've become a bit weary of it). I also ordered fresh berries ($8) which come in a bowl topped with whipped cream. It was nice to counter the heaviness of the eggs & potatoes with the berries. It made me feel better about myself (something healthy...sweeping aside the whipped cream). I noticed that on one of their blackboards they were advertising their 52 weeks around the world so every week their menu would feature food from different countries - pretty neat! read more

I have been twice for brunch at the Corner House for two occasions I have to say that the food is great I have had the Jack Daniel's pancakes twice and they were delish I think though they need a bit more of that syrup on the pancakes I haven't had the bennies yet but from what I saw both times when my family members ordered them, they looked quite yummy Will definitely go back again read more

I think this will always be a special go to place for us. It's such a quaint restaurant away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city. Service is always great and the food is great as well. The first time we ate here was 2013. And we've been coming back at least once a year to celebrate something special. Mostly all the food that we've tried have been part of the breakfast or brunch menu. We haven't had any of their dinner plates but we're hoping to come by for dinner some time. The last time we went there though I was a bit disappointed. The pancakes were a bit burnt in the bottom and thought they could mask it with more cream and syrup. The scone wasn't great as well. Nonetheless, it's a good thing the service was more than superb. read more

Must say we had a great experience - food was excellent, our table ordered the duck appetizer, and then the risotto, cod, vegetarian pasta and a salad for mains - all were very good. The selection of beer was great but only 3 on tap, majority in a can :(, that was disappointing. Along game the food and my disappointment grew, it was eatable, but truly not worth the price paid. First the server was lovely.. but this was obscene. Ordered the house mushroom pasta... received a portion that was smaller than an average child portion, no bread nothing but the tiniest of portions. Now I understand pasta can be deceiving but believe your eyes on this one. $21 for 2 cents worth of pasta in a relatively good sauce with may 5 cents worth of average mushroom's in it. Great place to eat if you want to eat some where else. All around us people were receiving thier orders which were reasonable sizes with bread etc. accompanying their food. I prefer to frequent local business, but never again will I go there. Do not recommend. But hey the view of the local convince store and the stop lights is breathtaking. read more

This was my first patio experience since COVID lifted restrictions. I was in the area .. researched places nearby. Chose this place based on the reviews, pictures and patio. When we arrived there was an iPad sized screen you step up to that detects your temperature. We then went upstairs where there was a good size rooftop patio. There was a mix of tables, height-top tables and a couch area. We arrived on a Sunday mid-afternoon. The menu offered brunch style items. The waitress was friendly and greeted us. Advised us that there would be a surcharge of $2.50 due to extra cleaning required for COVID. She ran through some of the day's features which included a sangria. I thought Why not? It's a hot day and we're outside on a nice patio. The drink and water arrived first. First sip of the drink was disappointing, it was diluted. You couldn't taste any juice much less liquor. But figured, heck it's a sangria ... expectations were low anyway as this is usually a "lesser" version of a glass of wine or other drink option. The food was well presented, tasty and fresh. When it was time to leave, we asked for separate checks then the surprises were revealed .... the $2.50 surcharge was per person. That glass of diluted sangria was $16.95!! I sat and thought ... perhaps it was a mistake so I asked "the sangria is $16.95?" Answer was yes ... it's special, has tequila and other liquors in it. My reaction WOW!! I'm sorry ... for that price, I would have ordered a nice glass of wine. This was the most disappointing part of the meal. Pictures are attached for your own judgment. Just beware of the price if you wish to order for yourself. I think I'm going to continue with takeout for a while until perhaps things improve with Covid. The severs were nice there, but the food was mediocre at best. The restaurant was not busy with only me and three more tables. I've order a risotto and it took almost an hour for food to come, while my other friends has already almost finished their meal. When I did finally got my risotto, I noticed it almost sitting in a pool of sauce. I asked my server about it, and they just said that how it's served there. I had my fair share of risotto and I know what it should look and taste like. They offered to take my food back and get redone, but when my food came back again, I've notice that the garnish were mashed up in the rice and it look kinda gross. They just put my old risotto back in the pan and cooked it for longer. Overall, not the best experience here. Don't think I'll be coming back. read more

This restaurant has been here for many years. It has changed ownerships once or twice over the years however, has remained to be a Stouffville favourite. The main floor is used for general dining. The second floor is popular for Sunday Brunch. The third floor can be used to host events/parties etc... The decor is cozy, hardwood floors/ updated colours. I had lunch here and ordered Lobster Mac and Cheese. It contained nice sized chunks of lobster, mac and a light flavoured white cheese sauce. As my side I choose Spinach salad. My coworker ordered a large Caesar salad. I must say 5/5 on presentation. He seemed to enjoy the salad as well. I felt the service was a little slow but then again, this is not the type of restaurant that a person attends while in a rush so maybe it was just me.... First time at this family restaurant and I ordered the arugula & tomato Benny, it was delicious! My bf ordered the cornerhouse Benny and we both enjoyed it very much. We were worried walking in at first because of the poor reviews but they recently launched their new brunch menu that is definitely worth a visit! The server and owner were very kind and welcoming. The only issue I have is the price, but the food tasted super fresh so no complaints there! They also have a beautiful patio on the second floor, we'll definitely be back in the summer time to enjoy their craft beers! read more

This is a review for the Ice Cream shop portion of the Corner House aka Avondale Ice Cream. The shop itself advertises that the ice cream is "made the old fashion way, one small handmade batch at a time". We had ordered Black Cherry but once we had ordered, I noticed that a MAJORITY of the ice creams in the freezer were actually Chapman's ice cream and not handmade as advertised. A single scoop was $4.50 - I felt extremely ripped off by not only getting Chapman's Ice Cream but the scoop itself was TINY. Pay close to attention to the container that they scoop out of as only a few flavours are actually made by Avondale. read more

This is a multiplex old house in main street stouffville turned into a restaurant. Upon my arrival, the entire restaurant smelled like french fries and fried food. The food and beverages are very pricy and they try to convince the public they are a 5 star restaurant. far from it. for example a bottle of domestic beer is $6.75 and an 8 OZ steak is 36 dollars. The Corner House is my former go-to lunch break destination when I'm biking through the country-side North of Toronto. Their morning/early afternoon menu is exclusively brunch. It's relatively small at about 5 breakfast and 5 lunch items. It's also pricey; it really makes me feel like I haven't left the City. I usually get the $18 Prime Rib sandwich, we is excellent. It's tender, juicy, and cover in delicious Au Jos but not so much that you can't eat with your hands (and maintain your dignity). The mushrooms and bun are very fresh and really make the sandwich. The food is excellent, but the main reason I'm only giving The Corner House three stars is the decline in service quality. The first time I went here in April, I pulled up on my bike the owner greeted me, and immediately brought me a giant pitcher of water. The service was prompt; they understood that I wasn't interested in lounging on the patio all afternoon. My list visit there about a week ago was a sharp change. I sat on the patio for several minutes before I gave up and went inside. There was a gentleman with his kids already waiting by the "Please wait to be seated" sign. He eventually gave up and left. I was a little more persistent and hunted down a waiter. The place wasn't packed; about 12 tables serviced by four people. Once I found the waiter, I took my seat on the patio and order the usual. When he came back to deliver my food, he dumped it on the table, mumbled "here" and took off back inside. I never saw him again; no return to check on my meal or refill my water. When I was done, I had hunt down a server inside again to retrieve my check. This was by far the worst service I've received at The Corner House, but the rest of the times it's been nothing special. And at these prices it should be! read more

The corner house is a very quaint place and looks great. It is also one of few French restaurants I've been to, so I was excited to try it. When we arrived, there was literally nobody there to greet us. We saw someone in the back and asked if they were open yet and he said yeah someone should come downstairs soon. About 5 min later we were going to leave when a man came to seat us. We started with the calamari that was very well done. Not at all chewy and nicely grilled. I went for the seafood pasta which I thought would shine at a nice restaurant and it was totally tasteless. I expect a nice buttery white wine kind of sauce but it was just totally bland and fishy. The husband got cheese ravioli with tomato sauce which was good, but very basic. For the price, I wouldn't return. Such a shame since we wanted to book our rehearsal dinner here - the food just wasn't up to par for the price. read more

Great intentions, poor execution. I went there for Sunday brunch with my wife. We were quickly seated in nice comfy chairs by the window. The decor was nice and just the sort of "country cafe" we were looking for. I thought the menu was well put together and had a few standout items (like duck bacon anyone?) We were left with our menus for quite a long time and another couple who came in after us were already being taken care of. Eventually orders were in--Charlotte (eggs benedict w/ smoked salmon) and a Classic breakfast w/poached eggs. The waitress came a few minutes later with our drinks and couldn't remember between the two of us who ordered the coffee. Coffee was mediocre. From ordering, it took about 30 minutes for our food to arrive and while we waited we were seen to by two different waitresses who kept asking us the same questions. It doesn't seem like teamwork or communication are high priorities in the hiring process. The food was well presented and I was looking forward to my eggs. They served their eggs benedict on a scone, which is a nice variation from the normal English muffin. The dish would have been better if the scone wasn't served cold. The eggs were a bit overcooked and the potatoes lacked seasoning. My wife's eggs were also overcooked. Her toast was hardly toasted and definitely not buttered. We eventually had to ask for some butter as no one checked-in until we were nearly done with our meal. Despite Stouffville's limited selection, I still would not recommend this place. read more

It's a cute restaurant. Staff very friendly. Food was a bit overpriced. I've ordered the spinach and tomatoes eggs benedict, the scone on the bottom was very hard to cut through and to chew as well. Stopped in for brunch on a Sunday recently. Place looked beautifully kept and was pretty quiet this morning with only one or two other tables. The menu looked to have some really tasty brunch options. We ordered the eggs Benny and the "double bacon" hash. The Benny was about a 7/10, pretty average with good peameal served on a scone. The hash however was brutal. Way too many potatoes that were simply not cooked enough. It's like they were boiled but not finished to make them into breakfast potatoes. At least 3/4 of my dish was spuds. Otherwise it was tasty overall but there was barely a hint of the "double bacon" other than a couple of pieces of tasty peameal. To top it off my cucumber and tomato salad was swimming in the grease of the rest of my dish. Lots of potential here, just horrible execution. read more

I've eaten at the Corner House twice now, and I was thrilled both times. As someone with gluten and dairy issues, it's hard for me to find places to eat where the food is both delicious and safe. Corner House did a fixed menu for our wedding rehearsal dinner, and the food and service were excellent. We were thrilled to have the top floor to ourselves, and the professionalism of the servers was great. Everyone loved their food, and the three of us there with food allergies were looked after perfectly - no mix ups at all. Our additional dinner was also really really good, with wonderful food and attentive staff. We will definitely be returning to the Corner House in the future. read more

A surprisingly decent place in Stouffville for brunch. I had an omelette that was done well. Side potatoes were a little lackluster. It came with a mixed apple and cabbage slaw that was a nice fresh addition to my meal. Others at the table got the Jack Daniel's pancakes and duck bacon. Pancakes were huge, but I was told they were delicious! I'd go back again to check more of the menu out. I came here last night (Saturday) at 9pm hoping to have a late dinner on their cute patio. Was offered a late night menu because the kitchen was closing so I ordered a pizza. Huge disappointment . Unfortunately the pizza was exactly like a frozen pizza (mccain delissio) which is 4.99 at your local grocery store. They charged $20.00 for this which was clearly overpriced . I don't mind paying $20 but not for a frozen pizza. The pizza was definitely not homemade. Very disappointing . The waitress was nice and the patio is cute. I live nearby and will not be back after this incident. I would have rather the waitress tell me there is no pizza left then give me one that was clearly out of a box. :( read more

Visited Corner House in Stouffville last evening for lobsterfest. WOW! We had the calamari, lobster soup, garden salad with Salmon, tortelli and of course Lobster. Presentation was beautiful, followed by smooth and fresh flavours. Our host recommended a white wine that was the perfect pairing. I would highly recommend this restaurant for its atmosphere and menu. read more
