A great place for a large selection of reasonably priced craft beers. A basic bar menu. Short and sweet. Works for me. Parking can be an issue depending on when you like to enjoy your nice cold beer. I tend to keep to weekdays right after work (5-7) or weekends during the afternoon. The staff has always been pleasant based on my experiences. Owners don't care about service or their wait staff. Beer selection is suffering because owner has problems retaining relationships with his distributors and wait staff (or lack there of) suffers due to terrible management. Food is good (great wings, but prepare to wait 45+ minutes). One bartender does wait service and drink service. Kitchen works at glacial pace. Owners are nowhere to be seen. Dine and drink elsewhere. Great place in Naugatuck for a beer and food. Probably the best. The staff is wonderful here at this place and is always friendly no matter what time of the day you cruise down. There are a bunch of TVs behind the bar. The bar happens to be the star of the show! With a TON of beers on tap it's always exciting to see what the new rotating taps are when you visit. There's a big chalkboard in the back that has all of the beers on tap. There's something for everyone from light lagers to dark milk stouts. Some favorite dishes I've had here is the Tavern Burger. It's a mammoth of a sandwich and has wonderful flavor. The nachos are also incredible. Get them with buffalo chicken on them and you'll never want to each nachos from anywhere else again! I am such a huge advocate for this place and I highly recommend coming to Corner Tavern as much as possible. The owners Tara and Ryan have done a fantastic job revitalizing another typical worn down Valley bar into a fresh and hip atmosphere that is typical to the more city areas such as New Haven and Hartford. I love that the owners maintained the original construction of the building simply giving the place the cleaning it needed. Both owners go beyond typical customer service connecting with their patrons to give them the best possible experience. They have an incredible beer selection and are always more than willing to hear your input regarding it. Around the time the Corner Tavern opened, I suggested that they get some Stone Brewery products in. Within a few weeks there was a Stone IPA on tap. Additionally, the food has done nothing but improve since they opened. They provide a good selection of typical pub food yet, the quality is great. I am a huge fan of the Buffalo Chicken Nachos. There portions are more than satisfying with usually enough for leftovers in the wee hours of the morning when you return home. I love the Corner Tavern and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for some great brews and food :) read more

the bar has a big beer selection, but other than that, i'm not really understanding the spectacular reviews. it's hard to get a drink when you want one, it's too loud to talk, and they don't have a patio area. also i went on a Saturday night and there was karaoke... why would you do that on a busy night? do karaoke at a crap bar when you need customers... or if you're already a reputable bar and want to cater to a few regular customers, then do it on a Tuesday. don't do it on nights where people meet up with friends to enjoy their weekend. no one wants to hear that. as for the food, it is so-so. i'd try more but EVERY TIME i order, i'm treated as a nuisance, like they're doing me a favor for cooking my food and taking my money. i think this place has a great rep on yelp because it's in the middle of nowhere. when there's nothing to compare to this place, yeah you could say it's great. but put it against any other restaurant or decent bar and it can't hold it's weight at all whatsoever. if the service changes, i'll edit my review another time. but out of the four times i ordered food, i was hung up on, talked down to, scolded, or scoffed at. and the extent of my special requests with ordering was asking for extra honey mustard! it's not like i'm some pain in the neck whiney customer trying to change everything on the menu. i'll give them another chance soon and if they make up for these mishaps i'll edit my review. ****FOLLOW UP EDIT BELOW, POSTED 3/17/15**** When I called in a take out order (the local sandwich place was out of bread, so i was hungry and lazy, and corner tavern is nearby) my girlfriend went to pick it up and she was confronted by the owner / manager about my review. First off I was a little surprised by that because he should have told me and not my gf (he could have called me back, he had my number) but no big deal. The guy cares, so he wants his place to have a good rep. you can't fault him for that. so now i'm expecting the food to be great. What was really strange, however, was that my food was burnt. The chicken fingers were burnt. The french fries were burnt. How can you burn stuff like that? Those are the easiest things to cook. not to mention that the dude corrected me, like i'm some kind of idiot for calling them chicken fingers. maybe this guy should learn to cook them before he worries about what they're even called. skip this place guys. in their eyes, you're an idiot for even walking in the door. read more

Reading the other reviews about the way the owners treat patrons, let me add my comments. I've regularly visited over the years and Saturday night was the last time for me. Had a party of 4 with 2 more guests coming later. There were 2 tables together near the bathroom (where I didn't feel like sitting), so I started to move 2 tables together in the middle of the room and one of the owners (Tara, who was sitting at the bar) started flipping out, using profanity about "Why are you moving the f*****g tables???" It's not the 1st time she's been rude to me and other customers, but it will be the last! They do have a decent beer selection but I don't go to an establishment to get yelled at. There were maybe 10 people in the place, not like seating was an issue. Food is average at best, service is terrible. Keep acting like this to customers... I know of others who refuse to go back. read more

The Old Corner is now the Corner Tavern - its cleaned up and very professional looking with a beer board, lovely restored (original, I'm told) tile floor and tin ceiling and the old fashioned urinals. It could be a Museum of what a bar from the heyday of the American Pub scene of the 1940s was like (except the tvs, jukebox and, of course, women). I wanted to try something from the kitchen but, inexplicably, at 10:00pm on a Friday night, the kitchen was closed. The Beer board did not include tap dates and almost everything on it was American Craft (Crap?)Hop Teas (Shandys aren't beer, no matter what anyone else says). You know, there are some people who don't want their beer to taste like the inside of my gym sneakers, right? Over all, I'd give this bar a higher rating if it was listed under museums, but not much. read more

I've been here a few times with friends. Last night my wife and I went to a wake down the street and it was late when we got out. She was in the mood for a burger and a drink so I said let's go to the Corner Tavern. I think she was kind of hesitant about eating "bar" food but I reassured her it was good, and considering where we were leaving from we just wanted somewhere comforting. She ordered the "Rubber Ave" burger, and I got wings as an appetizer and a buffalo chicken wrap with onion rings. We also got drinks from the bar. All the food was excellent, my wife finished everything, my wings were crispy. The only problem was that my wings came out WITH my dinner! An appetizer is supposed to come out before my dinner. The waitress who was older, was very slow. She didn't give us silverware, and was inattentive. There was a small crowd, and the drinking folks hadn't come in yet. I went to this bar after work one day in response to the positive reviews I saw on yelp. Upon entering the place, my initial impression was that it was slummy but I sat at the bar and tried to get the bartenders attention. He was actually quite rude and I was not eager to stick around until I noticed the enormous beer on tap list. The selection was excellent and I ended up ordering sweet potato fries and hummus as well as a variety of niche beers. Everything came out excellent. I was quite impressed. Good bar with a great selection of local brews. This is my go to bar and have been a loyal customer since before it was The Corner Tavern. The new owners brought life back to this staple bar! The Corner Tavern is a good Naugy spot! I like the Old Corner, more for the people and was sad for it to be gone, but am happy with a lot of the changes! Much better suited as a lunch place than dinner. I came here a few times on lunch break during the day and was pleased each time. Great beer, great food, and great employees. Bartender Courtney was helpful and great company, and the cook, who's name I forgot to ask for, is always all smiles and takes the time to ask about my meal and make conversation. These ladies tend to work the lunch shift and I highly reccomend visiting on their days. I would LOVE to give this place 5 stars simply for the great staff, but I came in on a Friday night with the misses and was greatly disappointed. My wings were very undercooked and my wife's tenders were charred. I noticed it wasn't the same cook. The gentlemen behind the bar, although helpful, lacked the welcoming touch that I had on lunch. Craft beer? Yes, they have that and that's about it. Food is horrible. Hamburgers are frozen burgers. Even the bartender said he wouldn't recommend the burgers. Ordered roast beef sandwich and it was like eating a hockey puck. It was cut super thick and very tough. My husband and I couldn't even get our teeth through it. We told the bartender we couldn't eat it and we didn't want it. We continued ordering drinks. We were polite. Ryan, one of the owners, came up to us with major attitude. Told us in a very snotty way he would comp us this one meal. What meal? We didn't eat anything! The sandwich was returned because it was inedible. After that night and sharing my experience with others I've heard several people say that Ryan is not a very nice person. I totally agree with that. We were treated horribly by him. I like the bar. It has a nice hole in the wall feel. Nice waitstaff and a good selection of beer. The only real complaint I have is that the bathrooms are disgusting. Kind of like a truck stop bathroom but where everyone pissed on the floor instead of the urinals.
