Bartender (blonde female) was incredibly excited to keep up with her nonsensical convo with the regulars who were probably there since opening, but not so much with doing her job. Yup. Nobody else at bar but me and took almost 10 minutes for her zero personality to order a drink. It was like bizarro world. Want another drink? I guess the four other people who cycled through the back of the bar couldn't care less either. Got one more, the check, and texted the other 7 guys from work who were going to meet me here for food and drinks. Guess these jokers can afford to let several hundred dollars walk out the door. This place definitely met expectations but didn't blow me away - came for Wednesday trivia night (begins at 8:00pm) last night. I'm not sure if it's a daily special or just on Wednesdays, but Bud Lights were $1 until midnight and were actually served cold and in glasses. It's a pretty hard-to-beat deal. Other drinks were priced pretty typical by Manhattan standards. The trivia was pretty challenging and categories ranged from literature, sports, art, etc. There are four rounds and you basically assign a point value to each of the four questions in a round (for the first two rounds for instance: 1, 3, 5 or 7) depending on how confident you are with your answer. There were a few special event type parts, like at one point they handed out sheets with 10 pictures from different movies and you had to identify the movie. I would have preferred less sports trivia but that's totally just me and my complete lack of knowledge in that area. The crowd was pleasant and friendly and the worker reading the questions was funny and entertaining. It was definitely a positive vibe. The bar was a little cramped but honestly not as bad as I would have expected. After the trivia ended around 10:30 or so the bar started karaoke. I would definitely come back in a heartbeat for a fun, cheap, and easy trivia night. I think between the three of us we maybe spent $15 total. Next time I'll be sure to bring along a guy who knows sports so I don't come in dead last again LOL. 1 star off for pretty dirty and unkempt restrooms. To quote my boyfriend after I commented that he was so fast there was no way he could have washed his hands: "Are you kidding? My hands were the cleanest thing in there!" This review is for 3.5 stars. They have trivia which is a plus. Wednesday night and goes from 8-10:30. Upstairs only and plenty of TVs to pass the time if you're losing. Free WiFi and good beer specials like $1 bud light if you're into the macro. Service is horrible and you need to yell to get the attention of bartenders who ignore half the bar. For regular beer they had few ipa and few locals but mostly macro. $8 max for good high abv beer though which is solid. Food wasn't very good. Beyond burger was way over cooked and pretzel bun was stale. Chips and dip were good but bar food at most and nothing to write home about. If it want for trivia I don't think I would ever have come here but because of the trivia (and karaoke every night) seems like a passable neighborhood spot. read more

WOW...After celebrating my birthday here, what a perfect experience from start to finish! I called two weeks earlier to reserve space for a group of 20-30, and spoke to Xan, who was more than helpful and patient in answering all of my questions. We emailed back and forth to iron out nuts and bolts and responses were fast and friendly. Our group ended up with a sweet deal including three hours of open bar with top shelf liquors, and a beer pong table (for some of us aficionados who wanted to play throughout the night). They reserved an ample-sized seating area for us in their upstairs room, and we even discussed chair and table setups. Having called other places to compare prices, I can safely say that Cornerstone's was the most reasonable, flexible, and friendly in the area. During the entire night of my party, the staff and management were extremely friendly and treated us like we were the only people inside, despite the crowds accumulating as the night progressed. Working upstairs was Lauren behind the bar, and Chance working the tables, making sure drinks were served and beers filled all throughout the cozy upstairs room. At the stroke of midnight, they fired up the karaoke, which most of our group jumped on (although some of us probably shouldn't have!) All in all, both the planning process, and most importantly, the night itself were terrific experiences, and left many of my friends complementing the staff and venue. Came here on a Thursday night on a date. This is the perfect place to not hear a single word of what the other person is saying. I wondered if my date just wanted to drown my three words of conversation out with loud music and rowdy midtown young professionals. I had to try to read my date's lips in the dim lighting. I gave up after five minutes and tried not to show my annoyance at the whole situation by putting on a smile and nodding occasionally. Maybe i'm getting too old for this type of scene: crowded bar, loud music and even louder patrons. Now, I'm only reviewing this based on my karaoke experience on a Saturday evening. Maybe it's different if you get there earlier or if you're there on a different night but I had some high hopes for this one since I'd been told by an employee that you didn't have to do a food/drink minimum to participate (we really don't like being forced to buy something considering I'm more of a semi-pro singer & feel people should be paying ME to sing; if you have a good menu & an A sanitation grade, we'll more likely look & get something anyway on our own accord). I've been to various karaoke places, including a number of Manhattan venues & in my experience, you either have to have balls of steel or a very good voice to do karaoke for strangers in Manhattan since there are some super talented singers performing. If there was a problem with hearing the music or them putting in the wrong song, the staff at every single place I've ever been to, without fail, have ALWAYS let you start the song over or fixed it to the correct song. This didn't happen when I performed last night. I appreciated that the waitress would take your song up to the DJ since that usually doesn't happen & it made me thing good things would happen. That good feeling ended quickly, though. I heard music for EVERY SINGLE OTHER track but when it was my time to sing?? You couldn't hear it at all so I was essentially being forced to sing a capella. Now, I happen to be able to do it well (and knew my song, unlike many others I heard) but many people can't. I even said "I can't hear my music" in the mic & explained what I meant but the people dealing w/karaoke did NOTHING about it. I could barely hear the music out of the speaker when I wasn't singing & we were sitting right near it! Though the bartender handling things at the time complimented my singing voice, I didn't appreciate not having that fixed & gave back the mic in the middle of the song since no one bothered with restarting it as anyone else I've ever encountered would have. My husband also put in a song that was NEVER listed. Other people putting songs in after his had their songs listed & no one there had heard his singing voice so I know it wasn't based on his abilities as a singer. They'd have a weak argument for that anyway considering this was mostly bad singers. Later, I also heard DJ commentary in someone else's song. This is a pet peeve of mine, having heard another DJ do it years ago to someone in CT and the remarks leading to a situation & dynamic I felt was disrespectful to the performer (for me, it's akin to heckling a comedian in the middle of his/her act). This is only the second time I've ever encountered it at a karaoke night & the first time I've ever seen it in Manhattan; I wouldn't call this a karaoke norm. It was also SUPER crowded (again, maybe it's different on another night or at an earlier hour but we had about half the area & couldn't get to the tables at the back if we'd wanted to) & there's no stage area for people to sing in. However, the song selection was pretty comprehensive & good for my purposes. With my husband mad about his song not being put in and this blatant disrespect for me as a performer, I'm so not inclined to return. I don't even know how long they serve food & we weren't even asked about getting any (presumably, they stopped serving food around 12:45/1 a.m.). read more

Visited this place post a Saturday night dinner circa 10pm. Stayed by the bar on ground level with few empty seats. DJ came on around 11pm to play a variety of music so we stayed until midnight and it was getting quite busy. The bar served standard drinks and the service was pretty good. There is a small restroom next to the bar if you don't feel like venturing to the other side of the bar. I came here for their Wednesday Trivia Night (8pm) and had a great time. The events like trivia, karaoke, and so on are held on the second floor which is smart not to interfere with the regular bar goers on the main floor. Luckily I got there early as the place filled up quick, by 8pm it was definitely standing room only. Up until 7pm they have a great $4 drink special which includes all well drinks and a few beers (including Shock Top). During trivia they have $2 Bud Lights (technically $1 half pints) and the waitresses were very attentive. The night I went they even had a couple hot Jameson girls handing out vouchers for a free shot. Cornerstone also features a full menu. I tried the Philly cheese steak spring rolls ($9) and the sliders (5 with cheese for about $14). The spring rolls were small and didn't have too much filling and didn't seem to have any cheese in them. It would have made sense to come with a cheese dipping sauce but it came with ketchup. Definitely not worth the $9. The sliders on the other hand were awesome. They were cooked perfectly, tasted ultra fresh, and came on potato rolls. They were a definite hit and I'd get them again in a heart beat. Even though we didn't win the $75 bar tab I had a good time and I'd suggest anyone come for the sliders and stay for the cheap beer and trivia. read more

Went to the Cornerstone to watch a specific game. I arrived about 40 minutes early and inquired with the hostess as to where I should sit in order to watch that game. She stated that the entire downstairs was going to be devoted to that game and suggested I take a table in the corner. Unfortunately, the table only had a view of one tv, but that was going to be fine. Met some other fans sitting nearby, watching the same tv. Game started, and just after tipoff, the tv was changed. We asked why and it was because some other patrons had requested a different game. We all complained as we had gone where we were told to go and had waited a long time. I came in for brunch close to the 4 PM time. I asked the hostess if I could still get brunch. She said no problem and I could sit anywhere. So I talked to the bartender who pulled out his cellphone and showed me it was 4:01 PM. So they were no longer serving brunch. That is too funny to be true. I was rejected from being served? If you come between 11-4 you can only order from the brunch menu, we got there at about 3:45pm and they wouldn't give us the regular menu until the clock hit 4pm which was a little annoying but not a big deal. For apps we got the taco dip and the old bay chips. Both were pretty good the taco dip had great flavor and the old bay chips were just right and they also came with French onion dip which gave it a nice touch. I got the chipotle quesadillas for my main course which were very good. It was the perfect cheese to chicken ratio. The guac however was a little brown for my liking, didn't look even the slightest bit fresh so I didn't eat too much of it. There are two floors, it was pretty packed but still navigable, and everyone in there seemed to be having a great time. * service: the bartenders were SO nice and friendly and efficient. Can't say enough good things about them. This is important! Who knows why I even had them out of my purse considering I live way uptown so there was no reason for me to be holding them, but whatever. I realized I lost them after I had already left the bar but called Cornerstone on Sunday, the bartender there told me she had my keys! I was so pumped. A good place to grab a drink. Karokee started at midnight yesterday (Friday) night. For a sports bar, we were surprised they didn't have pitchers. But wait! They have a tube! 8-9 beer drinks in the tube. A lovely surprise. $25 for budlight. We got some fries as well, which were surprisingly tasty. This place has two floors...which is confusing if you are meeting people here. What is even more confusing is that there is a "curtain" that joins to another bar as well. I can see why though-- despite the crowd, we had excellent service from both our bartender (female, red hair) and server gal. While this bar is roomy and also has an upstairs, the beer selection was lacking and the cranberry cider I wanted from Stag's wasn't available. Great little corner bar with an upstairs and a downstairs, solid drink menu and tasty food. Came here to watch the KU vs. Syracuse game while here on business--this is listed as an official gathering spot the the Univ. of Kansas games--and ended up sitting at the bar with several Syracuse fans (I'm the Jayhawk...) and had a great evening chatting with those folks. Fellow basketball enthusiasts, we got on fine in spite of cheering on opposing teams. Bartenders were just right, service was spot on and I felt like they were attentive without being overly so. Whoever trained the young ladies, job well done. Can't say I was the greatest customer: single pint of Guinness and their hummus plate which was loaded with pita and carrots & celery which was more than I could put away. No complaints. For a really bustling area of town the place has a homey feel to it. The clientele seems to be relaxed and reasonably normal. ie., not guys in suits getting hammered and bragging about making their sales goals, something I've experienced enough of in the city over the years. I recently planned a corporate happy hour event here on a Wednesday night. Our company is newly working out of temp office space in the area and we needed to find a new venue to host a happy hour at. Cornerstone ended up being a great choice for our event. On the 2nd floor, you can reserve the back area which is about the half of the floor. The F&B minimum was reasonable and easy to meet. We ordered several food platters, including mozz sticks (very good), chicken tenders, a variety of sliders, and guac and chips and the food seemed to mostly all go. Our server Stephanie took excellent care of us and was very attentive any time a new person arrived to get their drink order. Drinks came out pretty fast. Overall, everyone had a really good time and we will definitely consider hosting a future happy hour event here. The only drawback about hosting an event here on a Wednesday night is that by 7:45, pm we had to clear out the space to make room for the trivia crowd. Average run-of-the mill bar that has a DJ on the first floor while all night karaoke endures upstairs on the 2nd floor. Karaoke is always fun - especially when doing in front of strangers. Drinks were not strong and more watered down than average. However, solid list of spirits and beers are available. Didn't try the food since went there for karaoke and drinks, but my friends who were already there, were enjoying the fried mozzarella triangles and philly cheese steak spring rolls which were cheddar cheese whiz filled instead of standard provolone. The service is not 100% available at night, but there will be wait staff that are available intermittently to whisk away dirty glasses. I was having a bad day and asked a girlfriend to meet me just anywhere for a drink. We stopped by this place at random and expected the same shit "NYC has the population density to keep us in business forever so eff you" service but were SO pleasantly surprised by getting a kind Scottish soul a s our bartender. Drinks were amazing and he checked in enough to make you feel as welcome as the regulars and laugh, but not so much where it was invasive. If you're looking for a spot in midtown to have a wellmade drink after a long day (or even a good day!) Cornerstone is your place and Allan is your guy. You know what really makes this place 5 stars? It is the people that it attracts. I've come here every visit to NY and I meet the best people here. Karaoke every night and everyone is so into it! The staff here is so awesome and just wait till they get their hands on the mic. They're great performers! My friend and I were having so much fun that we even decided to do karaoke and the whole bar was singing along. One of the best times in New York! Oh yeah - the drinks!! They are average priced much cheaper than the other bars around so that was definitely a plus.
