This NEW YORK city pub is called the SOCCER Republic. I go to the SOCCER Republic to watch the Major League SOCCER final between Los Angeles Galaxy and NEW YORK Red Bulls. At the door, I was told that this NEW YORK SOCCER pub will be playing an American football college game instead on all of their screens instead. How can a place called the SOCCER republic not prioritize the sports that's literally in their name. That's just goes to show the current state of football/soccer in the USA. Pretty good soccer pub downstairs at Legends. I still prefer O'Caseys and Smithfield, but I definitely liked this place better than Blind Pig (enemy territory for Tottenham fans). THere's a much better balance of fan leanings here. TIP: For early mornings EPL games, there seems to be plenty of room above on the main floor to sit down and enjoy your meal, but all the atmosphere is downstairs. During the recent NL Derby, there were plenty of Arsenal goons, mostly harmless (though one appeared to be both drunk AND high at 11 AM EST, and kept badgering others every time he would stir from his stupor), as well as a Kurt Vonnegut lookalike. Generally the fans totally coexisted with a nerdier contingent of Spurs fans (well behaved, OF COURSE). The bartender was awesomely and authentically Irish, served me a crisp pint of Warsteiner, moments later a plate of baked beans topped with toast and gooey egg on top (pretty good), and called me guv'nah when I was paying my tab. Based on the overall reviews I guess i am somewhat in the minority for loving this place. Went very early to see some Premier League. Got a belly up seat and then the crowds came in. Go to the basement, that's where the real fun is. There are flags everywhere and people aggregate in areas by the team they are cheering for. You hear chanting just like when you are at the games. Staff is super friendly, prices are fair and the crowd while loud, is a whole lot of fun. Great place to start of a morning in NYC even if you aren't a "football" fan. My wife isn't and she really enjoyed herself, and she's the same person who fell asleep during an actual game in Barcelona! read more

We got a seat with good view of the Tv on entrance to only be told that if we aren't eating and a bigger party/one that is eating arrives we will be asked to leave. Waiter was very rude. When Jack Keane was forced to leave Nevada Smiths, the much loved bartender decided to create a new venue for numerous fans that adored him and started Football Factory in the basement of Legends. I went to the opening night of the venue in the fall of 2010: the place is great with lots of TVs but maybe a bit small to accommodate all the fans during big games. It's mostly British fanclubs who gather here but you'll see a few random clubs from outside of EPL as well. Jack is a great guy so this place is an instant success. This was my home away from home for the three months I went to school and lived in New York. I had heard about The Football Factory on twitter before I moved, and I knew I wanted to check it out. After a first week appearance at Woodwork in Brooklyn, which was much closer to my apartment, I ventured out to Manhattan to find this place. The first night I went there, I showed up about an hour early for the Revs game and there was a super rowdy group of about 5 Brazilians watching what turned out to be CAM (Galo) from the Brazilian league. I had never even heard of Galo before, but the bartender Jack, wasted no time in educating me on some of the high points of their illustrious history, which he had the ability to recall right off the top of his head, by the way, and explained to me the philosophy of The Football Factory. All Football, all the time. Any game, any league in the world. If its on TV somewhere, he's got it. He has a crazy satellite package that allows him to tap into all sorts of obscure global feeds. He doesn't do rugby, or Gaelic football, or any other "international sports" that some purported "soccer bars" supplement the main course with. As the Galo game wound down, I fell into a deep conversation with a cool Mancunian flight attendant Lee, who along with Jack, each gave me their renditions of how the Premier League was pricing out the common fan. This is the sort of soccer culture I just love. I came here every week for 10 weeks to watch the New England Revolution and Jack (with one exception) always kept the bar open for me to catch my game, often when I was the only one there. Jack's assistant bartender and social media manager Robbie is equally as awesome by the way, and never lets your Carlsberg sit unfilled on the bar for more than a few seconds. The food is average at best, especially the stuff on the limited downstairs "football menu" Ask for the larger Legends menu. You can order off it downstairs too, and it offers a lot more options of higher quality food. The food isn't why you go there, though. Go for the games and go to meet Jack. This place is more than a bar. The Football Factory feels kind of like an FAO Schwartz for footy fans, were FAO Schwartz located in a dark basement sprinkled with TVs on every wall. There's something for everyone. Jack, a very friendly, fast moving, and loquacious Irish barman can get any game you wish to watch on the box, and by virtue of that there is a very international crowd in this glorified man cave on big game days. Due to that, however, the FF lacks a bit of identity. It chooses to be more of a one stop pub for fans of every team, rather than an association linked to one or two storied teams. Don't get me wrong; if what you're after is a place to zone in on the game and have a pint of fresh, then the FF is fine. You just won't find the regulars and the history that give a great bar its character. And in a city where amazing food abounds, it's a disappointment to see the same old tired bar food coming out of the kitchen. I will begin by saying I go here for the footy. It's the home of the New York Blues Chelsea supporters club as well as many other lesser named clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool..etc. ;) Really, this is the only pub I've ever been to where so many different supporters can peaceably find one home under one roof and coexist happyily-ish. There are 3 levels. Food is served on the main level, and possibly on the top level, football is served on the basement level in the Football Factory at Legends...booze and fun are served on all three levels, the WCs, and every nook and cranny you can find. Truthfully, the food was fine...but I don't go there for that. I go for a good pour, some football, and comraderie. I was just there for the Chelsea FC Tour in July 2012...just before closing time, someone came in and said there was a drunk in football jersey passed out in front of the pub, on the street....so what did the manager do? He asked me and my girlfriend to Rock-Paper-Scissors for who was going to bring him in to let him sleep it off till morning? That is my kind of place. No Drunk Football Supporter left behind. Bartender is great and works his ass off to make sure the patrons are happy. Clean bathrooms, good beer prices, and a bunch of real soccer (futbol) fans. A fantastic place to see the champions league or any game for that matter! Fills up quick with die hards and regulars alike, and gives you added drama of the whole crowd reacting to each play. Really great way to experience the game, lots of supporters hangout there. Tons of TVs and decent beer. The cons I could think of would be, the speakers clash when there are a few games going on at once, can make it hard to hear. Some tables are directly under speakers, which is annoying. I used to be a regular at Nevada Smiths until everything fell apart over there. A few years ago someone mentioned this place to me, and I've been a regular ever since. This basically is the best soccer pub in NYC, and I've been to them all. This place is extremely clean and always draws a great crowd no matter how early or late the games are, they will make sure to show the game. Great beer/liquor selection (one of the few bars that carry my favorite Honey Jack Daniels). Bottom line is......IF THERE IS A SOCCER GAME......THIS IS THE GO TO SPOT. The search is finally over: I now officially have a go-to spot for soccer/ football watching. After Nevada Smith's unceremoniously shut down its historic location to move to an unappealing back-up around the corner, I felt homeless again... But the Football Factory (the downstairs of Legends) fixed that. Ample stand-up & sit-down space, a 360 degree spread of wide-screens do the trick. The place still feels a little bit virgin if you will - needs to build out the character of a great soccer/ football bar yet - but I'm sure it will get there. I spoke to the Jack - the bartender/ soccer guru who's orchestrating everything behind the scenes - and he's the magnet for all the soccer/ football clubs in NYC so I'm confident this place is going to become a historical location. read more

It is a nice bar to watch football. A lot of fan clubs meets in there. Beer 5$ which is ok. Food not good and pricy. But what I hated the most is that they ALWAYS try to charge you extra drinks on your card. I've been there 4 times and they charge me 2 extra drinks always on my card. I went here for a charity soccer tournament get together. Jack made me feel like a long lost friend even though I'd never set foot in the place before. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the sport, and knew things about my own club that I didn't know! The drinks are very,very reasonable, and it has a terrific atmosphere. Great selection of on-tap beers, though a little pricey at $8, the Guinness and Carlsberg each tasted fine. Bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable; they will tell you stories of famous players and figures within the game who have stopped by to chill. The fans are brilliant. They sang the entire game. So disappointed last night in the bus trip. Bus was very late, no recognition of that fact once we did get on the bus, no apology just get on the bus. Once on the bus someone asked the person if we would get to the match by kickoff (which was impossible at that point) and he sad we should get there without a problem. Yes there was unavoidable traffic but even if there wasn't, just the general day to day traffic into Jersey would not have afforded us a chance to make it in time but I am sure we would have made it before half time. Then the warm coors light, I mean the trip is basically organized through a bar, you cant even get garbage bags filled with ice? Really bad first experience, I mean how it could it not be when you spend more time in a bus than at the game, and I am not sure if I have it in me to withstand a second one. read more

Tourist Trap, Sub Par Soccer bar, Overpriced for what you get. Food - Sub Par Bar downstairs - Too Small to accomidate large crowds. Average wait for a drink - 8 mins (Had 5, and that was the average. One time it took almost 15min) TV's - Too small and not enough for the number of games and number of people watching The real story is that this place only got any kind of business from Nevada Smiths being out of commision for so long. The bar man is the old bartender from Nevada's and I read he had a falling out with the owner or something. If you want great atmosphere and better viewing I suggest some of the following over this tourist trap. Smithfield, the newley re-opened Nevada Smiths, the 11th Street Bar, Red Lion on Bleecker, Hell I would even take Jack Demseys over this place. read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting from Portland, Oregon and are Timbers fans. We came here to watch a Timbers game during our stay in NYC, and the bar did not disappoint! The atmosphere was authentic and awesome for soccer lovers, with scarfs for so many teams hanging on the walls. The bartenders organized sections downstairs for different fans to watch different games at the same time, and made sure we had the MLS game going in our section. The Irish bartender was friendly, too! Depending on what game you come to watch, it gets crazy packed until the next game is on and some people clear out. I came here with my brother to catch the Switzerland/Ecuador match on Sunday and it was pretty full, but not super crowded. We had a couple drinks and split some wangs and they were decent. The crowd is definitely a futbol crowd and we were able to cheer along with them all. Not a bad spot but I am sure it can get super crowded during the week afterwork! read more
