Traveling from Virginia and being in NYC for the Steelers-Chiefs game on Christmas Day (we are Buffalo Bills fans, so we were Steelers fans for this game) we wanted somewhere fun to watch. We found Hibernia after a google search for a Steelers bar and went. Tristan immediately greeted us upon entering and made us feel like regulars! What a great Irish Pub!! Perfect Guinness drafts and Tristan was amazingly attentive, hospitable and friendly. All the Steelers fans welcomed us (Especially Ellen -LOL) and we had a great time. The only thing that would have made it more perfect would have been if the Steelers had won. Thank you Tristan and everyone at Hibernia for a great day and for making us feel at home. I was in the area and did not need to go. I have plenty of food at home and cook well. I watched a football game. My intuition right away told me that the owner did not like confident, strong women. He was rude in his tone when I asked the television volume be lowered a second time. The football ads were loud. Alright, this is a cool local bar. The staff here is super funny! I came here with a friend and we were able to meet other folks and befriend. The topic of conversation quickly turned into how the neighborhood is predominantly gay. Bartender was free pouring our drink (probably to compensate how expensive it was, seemed like he poured 2 shots and charged us for 2 shots, but called it just 1 shot). Nice place and vibes, we were here pretty late and stayed pretty late. The outdoor is also nice and spacious. Unfortunately, while we were leaving, the building caught on fire! It turned from a fun night into one of panic. We were pounding on doors, screaming for the residents to get out, making noise to wake the people up. It was burning quick but the fire department came super fast and was able to rescue the remaining 3 people who were at the top! Quite an exciting night to say the least. We (13 ladies) went here after seeing a Broadway show... when we walked in we weren't quite sure this place would be for us... but boy were we wrong!!! As soon as we were seated our waiter couldn't have been nicer! Service was great and when our food arrived it was DELICIOUS!!! Prices were reasonable, and EVERYONE was happy with their meal!! "PERMANENTLY BANNED": During March Madness, 2024,, my 26-year-old son and I, both proud University of Florida Gator alums, decided on the W. 50th Street Hibernia Bar (three blocks from my apt.) to catch the game. While the Gators lost 102-100, the game was exciting plus I got to spend time with my kid! The service throughout the evening was good. I had a wilted Caesar salad (though my previous one here had been great), and my son enjoyed his shepherd's pie. Halfway through the tournament, and after we'd finished our meal, we decided to order eight wings. Time passed, the game ended, and the wings still had not arrived. No mention by the server that there were delays in the kitchen, etc., and the bar was not full. At all. As ex-servers, we know that if a table re-orders during the meal, the order does not go to the back of the cue. No big deal, it's only wings. Right? After waiting at least 10 minutes after the game ended and with an empty wine glass (in the server's defense, he'd asked me if I wanted another one and I said I might when the wings arrive), I canceled the wings and asked for the check. The young server looked nervous as he asked me if I wanted them to-go. I said I didn't. The check arrived with the wings on the bill. I asked the server if he would mind taking off the wings and he said he had to ask the manager. The manager arrived and asked, "What's the problem?" I mentioned there wasn't one, just the wings never came and we had to leave. He then said, and you can't make this up, "I'm going to pull the video to see what time the order was placed." In ex-server and NYC shock, I politely replied, "Wtf are you talking about?" He said, "You can't use that language in here!!" Hmmm, an Irish Pub, NYC, on game night and no swearing. Hadn't heard of such. Without a word, the manager vanished like a leprechaun. I looked around, confused - I didn't realize the kitchen was down a flight of stairs behind me. I thought he'd left so I walked over to the bartender and said I needed to leave and pay the bill. He said I had to wait for the manager. I assumed I was now infamous for the eight-wing kerfuffle. Not knowing if the manager was going to return, I said to the bartender, "So, we can do this one of two ways. I can pay my bill now, or I'll have to leave." The bartender said, and I quote, "If you leave without paying, we will chase you down." Poof! The Mgr reappeared and said, "I'll take off the wings, but you can never come back here again...you arent welcome here anymore." Over eight wings. With pen in hand, at the bar about to sign the (now adjusted) bill, the bartender said, "You need to get outta here!" I asked him if I should sign the bill first or just leave. He said I could sign the bill and THEN I could leave. AND I NEED TO SAY: Sorry to the server. He did not deserve the manager's out of control wrath. He'd shared with us during the evening, he was originally from Ireland and told us his story about how he ended up in NYC. My son, who travels frequently, took out his phone with a map of Ireland and the server showed him several places to visit for a future trip there. I left him a $15 tip on our $71 bill. The price of the missing wings. ** I'm a 68-year-old professional and a volunteer in the community. This is the first time I've been banned from an establishment. After 5+ years in NYC, I now consider myself, a true New Yorker. read more

We had a great time at Hibernia today! It's primarily an Irish/Steelers bar, with sports on 24/7 , or whenever it's on. The tatertots we good and perfectly cooked, unfortunately we didn't try any other food. They know how to pour a Guinness! We stopped here very randomly because we had walked from the ferry station on our way to see a show. Lo and behold we stumbled into a Steelers bar (I am from Pittsburgh). The bartender Andy was fantastic. It was just us and he was happy to bullshit with us the whole time! We even went back after the show! What a great little bar! Our friend brought us here for a quick drink before a show. The place is small but has tons of character, a true local Irish and sports bar enough TV screens to watch. I can see the place gets crowded, and easy to see why. Staff was great and friendly. I had a Sweetwater 420 IPA on tap which was nice, and I'm glad my friend recommended the cheese tater tots which were amazing. This is a cool place to meet up, have one round and go somewhere else. The place has single pane glass across its entire front and is freezing inside. The staff were a little judgy when I walked in. I do look a little different than most when I go out. It is uncomfortable when I walk in and get that side eye and whispers fly between the staff already standing next to each other as to what or who I am. Wish it was just business as usual but I get it. I can't expect everyone to handle themselves respectfully. That would be as weird as I look walking in. Definitely wanted to try the food because it looked good in the pictures. It tasted really good! had the sliders with cheese and bacon and UTZ potato chips. But it was far from cheap for those 2 little things (yes two not three like everywhere else) Probably would have been happier with the french onion soup or maybe felt warmer. Did not finish my second beer after eating (to cold inside) and left for paradise, GAF WEST on 48th between 8th and 9th ave. They have two dartboards and don't flinch when I walked in. I came here with my husband on Saturday evening for a drink and late lunch/dinner. When we arrived, Hibernia was almost empty. There was probably 6 patrons inside. However, a couple more people arrived while we were there. I ordered a Malibu with sprite and my husband just had water. To eat, I ordered a chicken quesadilla and a side order of tater tots (because I love them and most restaurants don't have them) and he ordered the chicken pot pie. Our food arrived to our table about 10 minutes after we ordered. My food was DELICIOUS! I was a little surprised since Hibernia is more of a bar, than a restaurant. My husband was not happy with his food. It looked more like a cream of soup with peas and carrots and a small "biscuit" floating over it. It was not a pie at all. :( Also, the prices were much more expensive than we expected to pay. However, the service was fast and friendly. read more

One of the best bar experiences I've ever had in NYC. Stopped in 2 nights in a row. Eddie and Jeff took care of us both times. Night 1 had a bit to drink and told them how I was going to propose to my girlfriend the next day. Went back after the proposal and they helped us celebrate and played a song for us. On Sat October 15, 2022 my group entered Hibernia after leaving another Hell's Kitchen establishment. Our waitress Michelle (long, stringy brown hair and glasses) was incredibly unprofessional, as she insulted me in front of the table upon taking my order. I told her that was an unnecessary insulting comment to make to a customer and there was no reason for her to interject herself in a private conversation. She immediately ran over behind the bar to the bar manager (who told me his name was Mike?) and lied to him about what had just occurred, saying I was rude. The bar manager (or Mike supposedly?) , without asking what happened or trying to get to the bottom of it, took Michelle's word at face value and came to our table to yell at our group. He asked no questions, just threatened to kick us all out. To which our table responded "what's going on? We have no idea what you're talking about." As I was leaving (around 10:45p), I approached the same manager about Michelle's behavior, telling him he didn't have the correct story and Michelle had lied to him. He cut me off and sarcastically replied "just go on the internet and leave your one star review then". (Well here it is!) As I mentioned at the beginning of this, we were someplace else but came here b/c some people in my group really enjoy it. I can safely say I never want to step in Hibernia again and will instruct other people never to go back as well. read more

I love this place. Been here well over 20 times and will continue. Staff is always attentive and kind. Decent selection of draft beer that is always cold. Cool small bar with a pretty decent happy hour. It was $4.50 for beers, and they had quite a few options. I only remember Blue Moon cause that's what I had, but they had a few others. The entire bar fits maybe 40 people, so it's a cool place to catch up with someone or just meet up before going to dinner somewhere, which is what I did. The music is so so, but it's a sports bar so I'll give it a pass. Service is extremely friendly, even though it was swamped. We ordered our beers, and then moved away, and they brought it to us, so that we didn't have to stand at the crowded bar. Pretty awesome. Would come back here if I was in the area again. read more

You have to come early otherwise there is standing room only after the games start, but there is a net of black and yellow balloons filled with slips giving out free stuff (hats, beer ect..) on the ceiling that is cut loose during halftime. This review is based on an experience we had a couple weeks back. Thrillist had announced a Mojito Madness event at several bars in the city - one of which was Hibernia. Having read other reviews about how this was an excellent place for happy hour and great ambiance, we decided to try it out. Upon asking the bartender about the mojito specials, they looked at us like if we were speaking in tongues and had asked for some obscene request. They asked if we wanted a long island iced tea (no idea why) then sort of snickered. We ordered a round of beers so it wouldn't be a complete waste of time, but felt them and the other patrons stare daggers at us as if we absolutely didn't belong there. I can understand that there may have been a mistake in the publication advertising that they were a part of the event (with the location address and pictures of the business), but there was no need for them to be unwelcoming and downright rude. I really wanted to like this place, but after that there's just no way we'll go back. read more

When we tasted the bread pudding we ordered, we were asked how it was. I didn't want to lie, and reported the bare truth: it was completely burned on the top, virtually inedible. Eddy immediately took it off our check and apologized. Although the dessert was bad, he didn't have to so it. "I just want you guys to be happy, and this is the least I can do."
