Came for a comedy show and had a good time. Unfortunately the tickets listed the start time as 30 min before doors even opened so we were ridiculously early. They should fix that. We were confused when we first walked into the bar, but turns out the comedy club is tucked away in the back corner. There's a two item minimum but the good news is that you could order from the bar, then continue the tab through the comedy show. I got a mango margarita and pear cider. Both were solid and yummy. Comedy show was small and intimate, even though the comedy space in the back is quite large. They were competing with the FIFA game, so I understand. I came here solo and Sarah made my experience the absolute best. The bar is nice and reminds me of a few dive bars back home in CA that I love. The Grisly, however, is like the most elevated dive bar but you still get the friendly "we've known you forever even if we've just met" kind of energy from the staff. Or at least Sarah. Damn did she make me feel welcome. Recommended great burger (the Smash with pepperjack) and was just so friendly that I didn't want to run out immediately after eating and having one drink. Oh, the fries....criminally good. The Happy Hour drink menu is pretty solid, and this is s place you could go to on a date, with friends, or by yourself. Came here for Lectures on Tap. The staff is so friendly here. The nachos were great. I had the Pear cider and it was delicious!!! The private room for the lecture was large but they still crammed in a lot of seats which made it a little uncomfortable. However the bar area is nice and I'd come back on my own. read more

Returning from a Broadway musical one night in NYC I wanted something light to eat - and a tasty cocktail. I had seen The Grisly Pear, walking by it in the daytime on the same block as our hotel. We walked in and had a seat at the bar. The music was loud (yes, I'm older) but it had a nice welcoming vibe and the barkeep was friendly and greeted us right away. We looked over the drink menu and I chose the Trouble in Pearadise and my wife chose the Cosmopolitan. To address my hunger I ordered the Warm Queso Dip with Chips. My drink was absolutely delicious, pineapple juice, prickly pear, syrup, whiskey and ginger beer. Sweet but not overly sweet a great combination. And my wife really enjoyed her cosmopolitan as well. The Queso was a blend of three cheeses and it was a perfect late night snack. When we come back to New York City, I will definitely plan a stop at the Grisly Pear ( I understand they have several locations in Manhattan). read more

A bit off the beaten path so not crowded when we walked in at 6pm on a weekday. The bar is U-shaped and has lots of seats, and there are hi-tops on the side. We snagged a hi-top and the server quickly took our order. Service all around was good. We weren't expecting much in the way of food but it was surprisingly tasty. This is a review of the comedy club in the back, and the back bar. First off, the drinks actually were made right. Okay, well, a Manhattan SHOULD have a cherry (these didn't). They still tasted good, and had enough alcohol that I could taste them. The comedy acts were quite funny. There was a good variety, and the sets lasted around 10 to 15 minutes each. The ambience is bar / nightclub. The service is actually quite good. Some things to know: 2 Item (food or drink) minimum per person. Sitting in the back doesn't buy you anonymity in any way, shape or form from the comedians. You are fair game wherever you sit. I came here for a trip and we had a buffet. I ate cheese, pulled pork, and chicken quesadillas and beans and rice. The quesadillas were good with not too much cheese and the beans and meat were cooked well. My friend had mac n cheese and mushrooms and ground beef taco filling with salad. I've been watching progress on The Grisly Pear for awhile now. Then on Sunday, we were walking to Black Iron Burger across the street and saw GP was opened so we made a detour to check out the newest place in the neighborhood. It was late on a Sunday afternoon and it was a little quiet but we were greeted by a friendly team. Our server told us the specials they had on drinks and we started with some beer and cocktails. For food, my friends and I shared Fiesta Fries, which were really good. For my main meal, I had buffalo chicken wings and I liked the level of spice and their overall crispyness. We ended with some choco mint donuts, which were pretty good. The place is fresh and updated. You can tell that they are not open long as we had some questions about the menu and our server had to get answers, but that's okay and to be expected. For a place that hasn't been open long, they seem to have it together. I want to reiterate that everyone who works there is super friendly and makes you feel welcome. I've never been to the Grisly Pear location in the Village so can't compare this new outpost to the original. This location does note that it is a comedy club as well and I could see the space in the back reserved for that so it's nice to know that's around. I think this is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and it's always nice to have a solid pub nearby. read more

I've been going to the Macdougal location for many years, this uptown location is just as good if not better! Food menu is amazing and in opinion you won't get a better pint of Guinness. When I had to walk around the opposite end of the bar and ask her for a drink she was annoyed and barely splashed an obviously short pour of alcohol in my glass and when I asked her to remake with a measured shot and she replied that the same sh*t I've been pouring all night. We went to see the 9 pm comedy show on May 13. Somethings to note. Tickets are the door cost $25 not the $20 if you purchase them online. If you buy tickets at the door the only option is to pay cash of to Venmo the personal Venmo of the gentleman at the door. This isn't a huge deal, but definitely, something to be aware of. There is a two-drink minimum with each ticket purchase, but they are very upfront about this. We had some drinks and chips and queso. It was good. The majority of the comedians were good, but a few of them were really cringe. The crowd was pretty empty for the show. It was surprising to leave the show and see just how packed the bar was. During lulls in the show, you could frequently hear the bar noise which overpowered the comedians. All in all, it was a fun way to spend a Saturday night, but I am not sure I would go back. read more

The staff is verbally aggressive, strikingly incompetent, and has all the wrong kinds of attitude. They don't hear you in full, they won't try to clarify what they don't hear and instead will fill in the blanks on their own (wrongly), and then they either don't take your order (after telling you several times that they got it) or they bring you the wrong order. And when you nicely ask them for the right order, they get (not so) subtly but obviously offended in a way that makes you not want to trust them with your drinks. How is it the customer's fault that you play the music so loud that you can't do your own job? How is it the customer's fault that you refuse to implement electronic ordering? The staff will yell at you bc they don't understand, they will ask you to speak up several times in a row bc they don't understand, and then they will get mad at you for "yelling" in response and call you "difficult". Like, dude, get over yourself and either give me a pen and paper or turn down the bloody music and get your hearing (and your head) checked. Also, I ordered items they never brought or served but for which they charged me and for which they told me they would refund me. That refund has not arrived.
