I brought in my carbon fiber road bike for a spoke replacement. There was some evidence of wear and tear on the metal components despite its perfect record of garage-only storage and sunny day usage. I may have been treated like I brought a loaded shotgun into the store. Staff reiterated the dangers associated with a carbon bike (and risk of death) and talked down to me in front of other customers. I would've appreciated advice on how to inspect and maintain it, but instead, I left scared and embarrassed. read more

I brought my bike here for a tune up and service. I ride quite heavily and hard. Therefore the bike had significant wear and tear. Because of it's condition the owner said he was surprised that I would allow such a high caliber bike take such abuse then asked me if I had stolen it! Attention small business owners: don't accuse your patrons of theft! I paid my $150 and left. I later dug up my receipt from the purchase because I wanted to shove it in the pompous jerk's face but then I decided to be the better man and sit on it. I recently returned (God knows why) to inquire on local trails since I'm new to the area, and the same guy (I presume to be the owner), told me for about 10 minutes that everyone in the area prosecuted mountain bikers for trespass, and that I should retrofit my bike to be more road worthy. Well, so much for advocating your trade! Can't figure out why he owns a bike shop?! I'll never shop here again. I advise no one ever patronize this business. Lousey service, attitude and customer service/people skills. Also he convinced me that western New York is a terrible place to bike! Rude treatment. Got a bike tune up after a crash, paid $75. When I returned for a derailleur adjustment was given a cold and rude treatment. Such a contrast to shops like REI where employees are passionate and treat you nicely and share their knowledge. read more

Taken aback at the rude treatment! I have patronized CBW occasionally for a couple of years. Initially I was met with a cool reception, but after a few visits and several $$$ the woman got to know my face and warmed up a bit. The other day I brought my bike in because the shifters were not working properly. The man (owner/mechanic) asked me what I needed and I explained. He immediately began berating me, telling me that I probably broke the shifters by "dry firing" them. He went over to a new bike, ripped a sticker off that said "Do Not Shift Gears and told me, "This is why we have these stickers on our bikes, but its your bike so you can do whatever you want." I was truly astonished that I was being lectured at so condescendingly. I said, "It seems like you don't even want to touch this bike." and he told me that he wouldn't be able to get it back to me for over three weeks, that he was "swamped" and working 12 hour days. I said, "I am sorry I caught you at a bad time" and walked out with my bike. I had been going there because I wanted to support my LBS and small business and I like to use cash (which they also seemed to like). I just cannot patronize a place where I get such rude treatment. I hate to say it, but I have never been spoken down to by anyone at Jensen USA, Nashbar, or Chain Rx Cycles. I guess I just need to go back to buying my parts online. As much as CBW are supposedly advocates for shopping small and local, they sure aren't helping their cause. Completely disappointed. read more

My best-friend took his bike to Bike Works in Corning, NY (Market Street) for a simple fix. He was told the day before that there were 3 people ahead of him. He brought the bike in the very next day. He was told by the owner that they couldn't get on it right away (understandably), but that it would be ready the following week. (Shop is open Tues-Sat. Closed Sun. & Mon.) He gave them a whole week to call and say it was ready for pick-up; waiting patiently-as he is an avid bike rider; riding almost everyday. He finally decided to go to the store, and ask about his bike. The female owner said to him,......... "Didn't I tell you that it would be three weeks?" ....WHAT?!?!... He was literally given A week's time frame from the get-go-- with ZERO updates. ... Obviously this was not the case, and she lied---or at the very least, was being deceptive about the situation. (Why she felt the need to do this...I have no idea, but I believe it was intentional, and although my buddy wished not to write a review.. I felt a need to do it & will continue to do it everytime a business acts out-of-pocket, or is shady.) My friend is very understanding & is an all around nice, easy going guy. He just wanted to get back out and ride again---after having his bike gone for 1 whole week, understandably.) Had he been told that it would be "three weeks" he would of brought it somewhere else from the beginning. Needless to say, he retrieved his still broken bicycle and he did just that. I told him from the beginning to just take it to Kingsbury's Cyclery in Elmira, (Great place btw! & quick turn-around time.) but of course my good ol' friend can he obstinate at times...(joke's on him, I guess?). Although I will continue to tease him in the future for not listening to me from the get-go... They sold me a very nice Trek bike at a good price, didn't try to sell me more than I needed, but ensured I understood my options and the advantages/disadvantages of each.
