There were some problems over our last stay. In room 21 the shower spray head was mounted very high, not adjustable, the spray was too spread out and had low pressure. The shower door handle was very loose and the shower door swings open and bangs on sink. Around the bathroom sink there is no solid surface to place makeup or small bottles. There was a small disposable soap given but it would be much better to install a soap dispenser that could be refilled. That would create less waste in landfills and make less mess in the sink. The towel ring on right side of the sink could instead be removed completely as there is a towel holder on the left above toilet. Instead, a horizontal shelf could be installed on the wall right over the tile line. This shelf could hold the travelers' cosmetics and small items, etc. There was no water coming out of the bath faucet when handle was placed to the right for cold. There was very low water pressure when handle was lifted straight up, and water became warm (unpleasant for tooth brushing). There was an extremely tiny waste basket in bathroom. And another very tiny one in eating area. Why so small? Even during our one night stay we filled the trash can. There are no screens on 2 of the 3 windows. We worried about letting in bugs when the windows were open. There is a step-up into the closet covered with carpet with no distinction noting the rise. For safety, they should mark the change of height with a line. Only one side of bed had nightstand and reading light (which was awkward to turn off and on from a lying position in bed). The other side had no table so the other occupant had no place to put glasses and couldn't read at night. The pillows (3 of them for two people!), were small and thick and not easily adjustable from reading to sleeping position. I've attached some photos to show these issues. read more

Reasonable rates, clean rooms and friendly staff. Close to Stanford, which is why we were here. Now the cons. Close to El Camino and road noise but also close to dinning. The cable provider sucks! All non-local stations are pixilated and impossible to watch. Garbage service picks up at 0400 in the alley where are rooms back up too. Mattresses could be replaced too. read more

Stayed at Coronet Motel in May 2016 when attending and presenting at a High Energy Density Laboratory Astrophysics conference at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. As the only female researcher in my group, I got my own room. Our supervisor also got his own room and the other male graduate students and post-docs shared their space. At check-in, the front desk worker juggled our reservations to make it easier for one unified payment. From the stacked bunk beds of hostels on the big island of Hawai'i as part of geology field-work to non-stacked beds in hotels in Palo Alto as part of physics conference attendance... Lifestyle change. Having no roommate(s) gave me time to introspect on how a change in career focus also corresponded to a change in lodging for work-related functions. I was unable to find any cockroaches to share my reflections with on my stay. The room was clean and cool, bed good for sleeping, bathroom easy to use with sustained water pressure. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this roadside motel. If staying here again, however, I would definitely recommend a room on the second floor. It got a little noisy with the traffic outside, but the room had blackout curtains. The room was impeccable, and the kitchenette was small and spotless. The owners of the hotel made a very uncertain medical stay in Palo Alto easier. They went out of their way to help navigate the additional days., and the need at the end for an ADA room. They were so nice. The rooms were what anyone should expect. The bed was very comfortable the TV worked. The room was clean and stocked on arrival. Location is ideal. Stayed at hotel for an early morning appointment at Stanford. It was easy online reservation and check in process. Was able to park right in front of room, which was great due to mobility issues. Room was simple not frills but clean. Had microwave and Fridge but make sure to have your own silverware with you, just so your prepared. Water pressure not great but it got the job done. Check out was even easier, which I loved. I will be staying here again and recommend for simple place to sleep. read more

The Coronet Hotel is an older reasonably priced hotel that is located close to Stanford hospital. The room is large and has a sofa, desk, microwave, refrigerator and Keurig coffee pot. The bathroom was updated and has all the amenities. The person at the service desk was friendly and pleasant. Considering it's location and the value we will definitely return. There is a great Indonesian restaurant, "Indo", within a few blocks. it has delicious food and wonderful service. read more

It is a little dated and located on a bit of a busy street but not bad at all. Very clean and the staff were so friendly and helpful. I booked this place for the price. I had medical appointments at Stanford. The price was great, but that was it. Several things were wrong: The place had paper thin walls. I could hear my neighbors talk and their snoring. I heard a garbage truck about every 30-1 hour the entire night out my bed window. The air conditioner "worked" but really didn't. The room never got cool. Also, they have a mirror beside the main door that allows someone to see into the entire room even with the curtains closed. All they needed to do was look through the side. The pillows on the bed were tiny (like sofa pillows) and only had 3 instead of 4. Several lights in the room were missing or didn't work. As a perk, the parking was nice and so was the check-in lady. read more

I've stayed at Coronet before and will stay there again, as I make visits to Stanford U on occasion. While Coronet is not a fancy place, it's clean, simple, all good, parking, near many local things, exactly what you need if you're staying in the area. This is a family owned business. It's very clean has everything I needed. Iron, hair dryer, body soap, shampoo. And let's not forget a microwave, fridge and coffee maker with pods, sugar and creamer. I had to take my husband to Stanford for surgery. I felt safe here plus it wasn't far from the hospital. The family runs the check-in desk. They are super nice. It's our second time staying here. This is a clean, simple and friendly place, very convenient to Stanford University and Hospital. We stayed upstairs in Room 21, which had good cross ventilation and a convenient kitchenette. Numerous restaurants are within walking distance, along with a natural foods store and a Mollie Stone grocery. There is some noise from El Camino Real, but we heard nothing from our neighbors and slept well. The small pool was closed during our stay, so check with the hotel if this matters to you. read more

Honestly I only picked this place for the location -- I was working across the street which meant no "commute"... and the price was right. I was very pleasantly surprised. Staff was friendly, room was absolutely spotless and actually fairly large, tons of space in the closet, comfortable bed, plenty of parking. The living room/bedroom setup is nice, gives you plenty of room to stretch out. It's right on Camino Real & I could hear traffic in the "living room" & maybe a bit in the bedroom. As a city dweller I didn't notice it much and it definitely didn't impair my sleep... but keep this in mind if you're used to the total silence of the country. Location is good, lots of food choices nearby (from cheap to fancy). Room had a fridge with freezer (yay!), microwave, toaster & there's an organic grocery a block away if you feel like something healthier than restaurant fare. read more

I recently stayed in this motel less than a month ago. We paid $85/night with a reservation for 2 nights. We went to school here so we are pretty familiar with Palo Alto. Our friends from Stanford always joked that the font of the motel's street sign makes the name look like Corona Motel. But it was the cheapest in the area, and seeing as how we are recent college graduates, we don't have loads of money to spend. We also wanted to have some privacy while we were visiting for a few days instead of crashing at friends' dorm rooms. The location was great for us because we needed to go to the Stanford campus for other business. The motel is only a few blocks to the California Ave. Caltrain station and near Quizno's, Olive Garden, Bank of America, and a Marguerite shuttle stop... There's a reason why it is so cheap. We knew before we got there that we were taking a risk. This motel's website did not have any pictures of the interior of the rooms. Instead, they have pictures of Palo Alto and the Bay Area, along with a couple of shots of the building's outside. To me, that seems very shady on the owner's part. It is standard to include room pictures on a hotel website these days. We scoured the internet for reviews but there were none! We called and asked what sort of guarantee policy they might have and the owner simply said "well I can't guarantee that the cleanliness of the room will be up to your standards". Noone would ever say that if they worked for even a decent motel/hotel chain! But again, we made reservations here because it was the cheapest in the area and close to campus. When we got there, we found that the motel is run by a family who live in some sort of apartment attached to the motel. The parking lot indicated that there were several traveling out-of-towners who were probably clueless about the area and just needed a place to stop by. The interior consisted of 70's furniture and lots of dark brown colors, hardly a thought-out and modern design scheme. There was almost no decor save for a very unattractive old sketch of a view of San Francisco. The bedroom was basically filled by the bed and not much space other than enough to walk around the bed surrounded by blank white walls all around. Only the faucet and toilet in the bathroom appeared to be modern. My traveling companion also noticed the old couch and dirty carpet as he sat down. The room suite was not pleasing to the eye in any way. Our comfort came from the fact that they had cable TV, but we were still displeased. The place was not homey and I felt uncomfortable throughout the one night that we stayed...yes, one night. Within 20 minutes of arriving in our room, we decided to check out the next morning. (We headed to the Stanford Terrace Inn, despite the more expensive price, and decided to splurge. It was a much better experience.) Back at the motel, there were random noises throughout the night and at 4 in the morning, a garbage truck decided to come by and collect glass. I was really annoyed. Even though it was out of the control of the motel owners, what garbage truck comes at 4AM?! In terms of street noise, El Camino Real is very busy with traffic during the day, but it didn't bother me as much as the garbage truck. The continental breakfast consisted of prepackaged Svenhardt danish, bananas and oranges, and orange juice and apple juice. As you can see, not much variety and weak. But I didn't complain and ate it. With the Coronet Motel, we weren't expecting a Ritz Carlton or a Marriott, but we were expecting something along the lines of Days Inn, Travelodge or similar. This motel didn't even measure up to that. I think that this motel means well but is so antiquated in the way that it is run and maintained that it doesn't even have a place in the competition within today's hotel industry. read more

The Coronet Motel is in the middle of some major updating. We stayed here because the nearby Hotel California was completely full, and we're really glad we did. The nice older couple who own the place are updating all the rooms with modern furniture and cleaning up the look (first inside, then outside). New additions include a king-size Simmons bed (which is super supportive - I slept like a baby), huge flat screen TV and wet bar with toaster and mini fridge. The bathroom had a walk-in shower suitable for people over 5'5" (in contrast to the Hotel California) and the seating area was spacious enough for morning yoga. Also, there's free WiFi, parking, & muffins. Our rate was $109. The Palo Alto Visitors Guide has an updated photo of the interior (pg. 15), but the owners don't seem to be able to update their website. read more

My husband and I stayed during the weekend of Stanford's graduation. I read all the great reviews before choosing the Coronet Motel. When we arrived, the room was as good as the reviews had said. To me the remodeling made me feel like I had found a diamond in the rough. Then came the encounters with the grumpy owner. A elderly couple owns and manage the Coronet. The wife is just as sweet as can be, but her husband became nasty and rude when we needed assistance with our TV and later, our air conditioner unit. In fact, I couldn't believe when he accusingly said that maybe the remote (control for the air conditioner) was dropped in water! I told him it most likely needs new batteries. He later came back with fresh batteries which made the air work again. I will not be staying here again. 5 stars for the remodeled rooms. Zero stars for the nasty rude customer service from the male owner. 2 stars total. read more

I just returned from a 2nd stay at the Coronet. The remodeling is even more wonderful! The owners are lovely, friendly and made me feel at home once again. I love the location---I can walk to great local restaurants, a yoga studio, a sweet little grocery store and a fabulous bagel shop. Talk about a treasured neighborhood! Oh, and don't forget the farmers market on Sundays. I plan to return the next time I'm in town. read more

I found this motel on Stanford's list of nearby places to stay. The lobby basically doesn't exist right now, because it's being renovated. I guess they did the rooms first, because my room appears to be in great condition. I don't have any complaints about the contents of the room like other these other reviewers. Everything is pretty new and clean. The location is great. Lots of busses stop near by (including free Stanford University ones). Lots of restaurants and a train station within walking distance. Only downside is the lack of a view. Parking lot for businesses in the back. Parking lots for the motel in the front and then a pretty busy street. read more

A budget place undergoing a makeover. I stayed here for ten nights during January while waiting to move into an apartment, because it is on the list of accommodations recommended by Stanford. I took one of the old rooms (my choice for a better rate) and it was run-down, but it was also roomy and comfortable, and the staff were right on top of any problems or questions that I had. I had a good look at the new rooms, which seem to be well appointed, and I am recommending this choice to my family when they come to visit. If you need wireless, that can be a problem. However, you will be just around the corner from two Starbucks and the Country Sun store that provide free wireless. read more

Amazing stay!! Stayed for 2 nights. What a wonderful Motel for a quick visit in Palo Alto. The staff is very welcoming when you arrive and made it easy to check in and get the local hot spot restaurants to go to. Easy walk to California Ave. (39 restaurants closer to the door than any other hotel in Palo Alto) and 2 blocks from Stanford/train station to SFO airport. Made it easy not having to rent a car this trip. Used Uber anywhere on campus for about $3-$5. Score! The rooms are all updated and VERY, VERY CLEAN! Beds are comfy which is a great bonus and all amenities (towels/soap/shampoo/hair dryer are provided! Would recommend stopping by the Coronet Motel to other friends and family. read more

This motel is GREAT. It is very neat and clean and the rooms are set up beautifully. It is clear that a lot of thought went in to the use of space as well as the lovely touches with the molding, furniture, etc. Nice bathroom with a lot of space. And the price is very reasonable. The owners and managers are so friendly -- they act as if you are a guest in their home. They took good care of me. I was there because I needed to be in that area the night before a medical procedure. I would definitely stay there again if the need arises. read more

I stayed 4 nights visiting the Stanford university. The hotel has a very convenient location right next to California Avenue with many good restaurants. The free shuttle to Stanford university stops right at the corner of El Camino and Cal. Av. and allows to reach Stanford in 10 minutes. The rooms are very nice. The bed is in a separate room separated by a wall from a small kitchen that can also serve as a small living room or a working cabinet. The hotel faces El Camino that has cars going all the time, but the car noise did not bother me at all. Minor setback: internet was good for casual web surfing but not good enough for working over ssh (connection was resetting every 5-10 minutes). read more

Nice rooms, all remodeled, very comfortable bed, quiet new ac/heaters, micro, fridge and work area. Overall a very nice place to stay. I would of given it 5 stars, but the only thing that was a little bad is the traffic noise. I think if they sealed the doors a little better, that would be fixed. The noise was not bad enough to affect my sleep though. Very friendly staff/owners, lots of parking, and a great overall location. This place is walking distance from California avenue, where you will find all kinds of nice restaurants, shops and bars. I would stay here again, and recommend to others as well. read more

This establishment is so amazing. The room was very nice and modern, the bed and pillows were comfortable. The staff is lovely and very attentive to all my questions and needs. Heidi and Ron made me feel at home, I also enjoyed the Ghirardelli chocolates they left in my room, such a nice gesture. Don't judge this book by its cover. It's not much to look at, but the rooms are clean, beautiful, and updated. Couch and small kitchen area were perfect for the size and the money. The only complaints I have was the noise of the surrounding area, the windows and door do not block out much sound, and I hit my head on the wall mounted TV multiple times, and the ice machine did not have any ice. Other than that I really enjoyed my stay, and will definitely consider this hotel again read more

1-31-11 At first i was kind of scared to stay here because off all the negative reviews. The room was very nice. Everything in the room looked new. I even thought the couch was comfortable and fell asleep on it both nights i was there( i woke up in the middle of the night and got in the bed) I thought the bed was hard but my sister really liked it. The hater worked really good. The tv was huge and had good channels. The wifi worked good too. Its on el camino so there are a bunch of stores to go to north or south. Its not that far from Stanford that was why we came here. I would recommend anyone to stay here read more

This place is a gem! I'm so close I found this motel. The beds are comfy. The shower was easily accessible for my 73 yr old Mom. Close to Stanford hospital. Defiantly will be returning if Mom will need additional surgery. Oh and the rooms were amazing clean! The best part I forgot my iPad and the staff called me and told me I forgot my iPad. I went back to get it and the young lady at the desk asked for my ID before handing it over. So appreciative of her and this motel!!!!! read more
