Solo traveler on a Budget. I had an emergency in San Francisco and was on a budget with my own transportation. My filters for last minute hotel reservations were: Free parking Cleanliness Fridge Microwave $100 per night Menlo Park Inn met each need. I stayed for two nights. I arrived past midnight after a 10 hour drive. I called about my late arrival but did not expect to arrive so late early. The entire neighborhood was so quiet that I was hoping my reservation was still honored. This is a small brand, family owned motel (I think,). I rang the bell and was greeted with a smile and a fashionista. No sleep in her eyes. No bedhead. Just a vibrant greeting. Check-in was 5 minutes or less and I was offered a complimentary snack. Exterior Well lit. Creative and modern paint palette. Spacious parking. Shaped like a square "U". Room There were three features of the room I noticed. The leaves shadow imprint on the sheets. A traditional bathtub. If you had time for a soak. And the white wood shutters were a nice touch in nostalgic modernity. After a long drive I was pleased that the room was sanitized and clean along the base boards. Since my stay was brief I slept, showered and was on the go. IMO, If you're staying at an Inn, it's not technically a vacation it's functionality of the space. All items behaved properly. The bed allowed me to sleep. The refrigerator kept my food cold and the microwave heated it up. The A/C was comfortable and did not over freeze. And the Keurig functioned as expected. The shower water flow and temperature remained the same at midnight and 8 a.m. with no delay in hot water. I did partake in the continental breakfast of fruit, oatmeal, juice and fresh grind coffee concoctions. If you're staying here. You know you're staying here. If you are staying in Menlo Park this is a good choice. If you have no idea and you're a tourist exploring San Francisco, pass this accommodations up. I don't mind driving 30 minutes to the city but this location required driving over the river and through the woods. Well technically two miles from highway to the Inn. An extra value was the room spaciousness in a double queen room. I feel comfortable saying a wheelchair could navigate in a non-accessible room. Oh and for ladies that like light for make-up, Menlo Park Inn did well. Perhaps the fashionista influence at check-in. Amenities Room deposit is less than $100 per night. Wifi is free but I did not use it. I travel with a personal hot spot. But there were lots of channels on the television. Complimentary shower gel, conditioner and shampoo. Eucalyptus and lemon scented that was soft. Two gas stations nearby with snacks. We booked this hotel on short notice. The price was excellent- under $100. The receptionist at check-in was friendly and professional. The room was clean and had the basics- wifi, king size bed, tv, large desk, sink area, shower/tub, toilet, microwave, Keurig, mini-fridge. There were complimentary coffee pods, tea, sweetener, honey, toiletries, and makeup remover pads. We did have to call down to the front desk for another blanket, but they brought it up to us right away. In the morning, they serve free coffee and continental breakfast. The coffee maker is fancy w/ a digital screen where you get to choose how strong you want your coffee, and then it grinds your coffee for you. The breakfast consisted of bagels, pastries, muffins, assorted cereals, milk, greek yogurt, bananas, oranges, apples, hot oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, and all the toppings like jam, cream cheese, butter, sugar, salt, and pepper. Would definitely stay here again!

Menlo Park Inn gives an eye mask and slippers and some random things like a bag of nuts and a "freshly" baked cookie. It wasn't wrapped in plastic it was in an open pastry bag and who knows how long it was sitting there! Our room came with a small couch and a desk and TV and fridge, it was pretty spacious and clean. Parking was easy, it's right next to the room. And it came with the reservation! My husband and I took two spots because we each brought our cars. It comes with a complimentary continental breakfast which has apples, oranges, bananas, yogurt in little mason jars, cereal, bagels, toast, cream cheese, coffee. Also, there are some drinks and water in the lobby if you want to purchase drinks or just want some water, I think some of the drinks are complimentary! I slept relatively comfortably, but the walls are thin and you can hear the person next door snoring. Also for some reason the prices are astronomical on the weekdays! Our room went up to $400 on the Monday we checked out. It was crazy!

I cannot really recommend Menlo Park Inn other than the location. That part is great. Easy walking to restaurants, shopping, the best used bookstore anywhere nearby. Everything else though was not good, and worse than not good. The whole room stank of mold the minute we walked in. It was easy to discover why. There was black mold all inside the windows & around the windowsills, there was black mold around the sink, the drains, in the grout, all over the place. The air conditioner, which was SUPER LOUD, blew out more mold smell. Then there were the dirty linens. The first two hand washcloths we unfolded to use had red stains on them that was either lipstick or (shudder) something worse. I promptly marched them over to the office and dropped them off to a rather unconcerned front desk person. The sheets were not exactly the freshest seeming things either. The beds were so uncomfortable and hard. Neither of us got much sleep. The location is very noisy as well, with a lot of road traffic even at night, and massive construction across the street looks like it will be happening for quite some time. Don't bother with the 'wine' hour thing. We showed up to an empty bottle of wine and a plate with a few crusty cheese leftovers. Breakfast is nothing to speak about either. And I don't recommend the 'cookie' they leave in your room because that did not seem sanitary at all. They do give you eye masks, which you need when the bright morning sun comes through the shade slates because there are no curtains. There were a lot of TV channels, so that is nice? No way to plug in and use your own Fire Stick or anything though or use your own Netflix accounts or the like. If it is all about the location, then the location is terrific. Everything else, expect a cheap, run down motel with a fresh surface makeover at not so cheap prices, and that's exactly what you are going to get.

I think i am done. $300 plus dollars for a carpet in room 116 that is so filthy that just being barefoot for an hour made my feet black and i had to wash them twice..see picture of wash cloth. I had to put towels and a bedspread over the carpet. DISGUSTING. See other review with the black feet comment.. and still was not taken care of!!!! Lindo p. Please stop lying and saying you have taken care of the carpets!!! Also, so much for sleeping in with those f@&&&g maids screaming and laughing and cackling right outside the damned doors!!! Rude and unprofessional!!!

In the hotel, there's a restaurant where you can start your day with delicious French toast (10/10) and relax by the fireplace after and play a game of Scrabble. In the afternoon there are cookies near the front desk that you're welcome to stop by and eat. The swimming pool is heated and set in the rear of the hotel, giving it a nice secluded feel. The pool area has a club-like feel to it with towels on hand, a large TV, and a refrigerator full of canned water. The rooms are pristine and clean, the furniture hand-selected and styled to where it feels like a place you can sleep, work, and lounge. The bathrooms are gorgeous with double sinks, a lit round makeup mirror, a walk-in spacious shower that can comfortably have 2 people in it, and a mirrored closet where you'll find bath robes and slippers. The beds are firm and comfortable, and the pillows feel alright while sitting up, but may not be for everyone for sleeping. Our group of 11 all shared the same comments of barely getting any sleep and feeling neck sore the next day and we came to the overall consensus that it was the pillows. Overall, it's a very solid, very classy hotel with charm and a gorgeous aesthetic. Staying there felt like home away from home.

The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful in its design with its Spanish influenced architecture and every room having a little balcony overlooking the intimate courtyard or if its on the outside of the hotel, the downtown Palo Alto area. We honestly couldn't have imagined a better venue for our wedding, everyone had a good time and not a single thing went wrong. My husband's company had a conference and as all hotels in this area do, Hotel Lucent raised their prices to almost $500 a night during the conference- this is a badly remodeled motel and even on conference weeks, not worth a quarter of that rate. I am giving two stars for the kindness of Eve at the front desk and the fact that it was a roof over our head. The good ends there. Please see attached pictures: the carpets are tearing, stained and faded; there are dirty handprints on the walls in the rooms; when we arrived we found feces in the toilet and broken glass in the bathroom sink. There was spilled/splashed food on the walls behind the desk/work station; an old, dusty coffee maker; no fitted sheets on beds; mold in the shower; a musty, dirty smell in the hallways and in our room; scraped and damaged furniture in the room and in the lobby area; a non-heated outdoor pool; a broken jacuzzi with no guest access; and two slime-covered "water stations" (they only provide bottled water once upon check-in), and the "mini-fridge" in our room was non-operational. We tried our best to find other accommodations once we realized the state of our room but by that time, all the hotels in the area had been reserved for the conference. I will say, once I kindly spoke with Eve about my concerns, she assured me that they would take care of the issue and while they did use some mold-killer in the shower and cleaned the feces off of the toilet's sides- our fresh towels still had lipstick and makeup marks on them from the prior guests' use; they left a dirty coffee cup on the table and didn't take out all the trash in the room. I asked if I could have some cleaning products to try and wipe the room down on my own but I was refused, I am sure this is due to liability and I understand but as a guest paying $500 a night, I would really have expected not to have to go to the Safeway next door and purchase my own cleaning supplies to try and get the room to a more comfortable level of cleanliness for myself, my husband and my child. I am baffled by the positive reviews and feel truly led astray.

Madera Restaurant offers a full upscale dining menu and is a great choice for lunch, dinner, a business meal, date night, or a special occasion. Madera Bar is perfect for cocktails, wine, and light bites in a more relaxed but still refined atmosphere. Bici Coffee is a nice option for coffee, pastries, or a casual stop for bikers if you do not want a full sit-down meal. Rosewood Sand Hill is also a nice place for a tea party or an afternoon gathering with friends. One of the best parts is the view from the hill. I like how you can partially see the highway from the restaurant, but you cannot really hear it, so the setting feels very calm and secluded. Occasionally, you can see some movement in the distance, but if you were not looking in that direction, you probably would not even notice it. Because of that, the whole place feels very private and relaxing. Visiting Rosewood Sand Hill feels like you have been transported somewhere away from Silicon Valley, even though you are actually right in the middle of it, just a walking distance from SLAC, the particle accelerator, and Zoox's autonomous vehicles. That contrast makes the experience even more interesting: you are surrounded by the Silicon Valley's technology and innovation, but the atmosphere feels secluded, quiet, luxurious, and almost like a retreat.

All the deets: We started our stay with complimentary EV charging and a golf cart ride to our cottage. From the moment we arrived, the service felt effortless and welcoming. No snobby or stuffiness. The room had an epon feel with high ceilings, a large walk-in closet, a spacious bathroom, and a balcony overlooking the lawn and fountain. It was the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast and if you get lucky maybe see some of the bunnies that run around the property. Next stop: the pool. Swim, eat, repeat. The staff regularly came around with complimentary tastings from the menu, and more than once we ended up ordering the item they brought - spicy tuna tostadas at the top of the list! The saltwater pool was fantastic, although I was glad I packed goggles(your eyes may not appreciate salty water it as much as the rest of you). The pool menu is relatively small but thoughtfully curated, with every item we tried delivering on quality and flavor. In the evening, we got ready and walked over to dinner at Madera. A separate review is coming, but dining on the deck while watching the sunset was a highlight of the stay. The halibut seemed to be the popular choice around us and looked incredible. Fork ordered the ribeye steak, while Spoon went with the mushroom ragù. Both dishes were excellent and a perfect end to the day. Final verdict: Rosewood Sand Hill delivers luxury without feeling stuffy. Between the beautiful grounds, attentive service, excellent food, and relaxing atmosphere, it's an easy recommendation for a staycation or special occasion.
