Stayed here for one night for a quick visit to the bay and needed somewhere cheap, but safe and good quality. I loved the space here! Very cute little archway and comfy bed. Continental breakfast was a huge plus and they were able to accommodate me for both early check in and late check out. Only complaint I would have is that the TV is a little old and the channels they offer. I did try to rebook the following week for the next day (short notice) and the lady told me the room would be $400 a night. I don't care how short notice it is to get a room, no motel should cost me $400 a night. Hence the -1 star read more

Solo traveler on a Budget. I had an emergency in San Francisco and was on a budget with my own transportation. My filters for last minute hotel reservations were: Free parking Cleanliness Fridge Microwave $100 per night Menlo Park Inn met each need. I stayed for two nights. I arrived past midnight after a 10 hour drive. I called about my late arrival but did not expect to arrive so late early. The entire neighborhood was so quiet that I was hoping my reservation was still honored. This is a small brand, family owned motel (I think,). I rang the bell and was greeted with a smile and a fashionista. No sleep in her eyes. No bedhead. Just a vibrant greeting. Check-in was 5 minutes or less and I was offered a complimentary snack. Exterior Well lit. Creative and modern paint palette. Spacious parking. Shaped like a square "U". Room There were three features of the room I noticed. The leaves shadow imprint on the sheets. A traditional bathtub. If you had time for a soak. And the white wood shutters were a nice touch in nostalgic modernity. After a long drive I was pleased that the room was sanitized and clean along the base boards. Since my stay was brief I slept, showered and was on the go. IMO, If you're staying at an Inn, it's not technically a vacation it's functionality of the space. All items behaved properly. The bed allowed me to sleep. The refrigerator kept my food cold and the microwave heated it up. The A/C was comfortable and did not over freeze. And the Keurig functioned as expected. The shower water flow and temperature remained the same at midnight and 8 a.m. with no delay in hot water. I did partake in the continental breakfast of fruit, oatmeal, juice and fresh grind coffee concoctions. If you're staying here. You know you're staying here. If you are staying in Menlo Park this is a good choice. If you have no idea and you're a tourist exploring San Francisco, pass this accommodations up. I don't mind driving 30 minutes to the city but this location required driving over the river and through the woods. Well technically two miles from highway to the Inn. An extra value was the room spaciousness in a double queen room. I feel comfortable saying a wheelchair could navigate in a non-accessible room. Oh and for ladies that like light for make-up, Menlo Park Inn did well. Perhaps the fashionista influence at check-in. Amenities Room deposit is less than $100 per night. Wifi is free but I did not use it. I travel with a personal hot spot. But there were lots of channels on the television. Complimentary shower gel, conditioner and shampoo. Eucalyptus and lemon scented that was soft. Two gas stations nearby with snacks. My husband and I spent four nights at the Menlo Park Inn. We booked this hotel on short notice. The price was excellent- under $100. The receptionist at check-in was friendly and professional. The room was clean and had the basics- wifi, king size bed, tv, large desk, sink area, shower/tub, toilet, microwave, Keurig, mini-fridge. There were complimentary coffee pods, tea, sweetener, honey, toiletries, and makeup remover pads. We did have to call down to the front desk for another blanket, but they brought it up to us right away. In the morning, they serve free coffee and continental breakfast. The coffee maker is fancy w/ a digital screen where you get to choose how strong you want your coffee, and then it grinds your coffee for you. The breakfast consisted of bagels, pastries, muffins, assorted cereals, milk, greek yogurt, bananas, oranges, apples, hot oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, and all the toppings like jam, cream cheese, butter, sugar, salt, and pepper. Menlo Park Inn gives an eye mask and slippers and some random things like a bag of nuts and a "freshly" baked cookie. It wasn't wrapped in plastic it was in an open pastry bag and who knows how long it was sitting there! Our room came with a small couch and a desk and TV and fridge, it was pretty spacious and clean. Parking was easy, it's right next to the room. And it came with the reservation! My husband and I took two spots because we each brought our cars. It comes with a complimentary continental breakfast which has apples, oranges, bananas, yogurt in little mason jars, cereal, bagels, toast, cream cheese, coffee. Also, there are some drinks and water in the lobby if you want to purchase drinks or just want some water, I think some of the drinks are complimentary! I slept relatively comfortably, but the walls are thin and you can hear the person next door snoring. Also for some reason the prices are astronomical on the weekdays! Our room went up to $400 on the Monday we checked out. It was crazy! read more

I cannot really recommend Menlo Park Inn other than the location. That part is great. Easy walking to restaurants, shopping, the best used bookstore anywhere nearby. Everything else though was not good, and worse than not good. The whole room stank of mold the minute we walked in. It was easy to discover why. There was black mold all inside the windows & around the windowsills, there was black mold around the sink, the drains, in the grout, all over the place. The air conditioner, which was SUPER LOUD, blew out more mold smell. Then there were the dirty linens. The first two hand washcloths we unfolded to use had red stains on them that was either lipstick or (shudder) something worse. I promptly marched them over to the office and dropped them off to a rather unconcerned front desk person. The sheets were not exactly the freshest seeming things either. The beds were so uncomfortable and hard. Neither of us got much sleep. The location is very noisy as well, with a lot of road traffic even at night, and massive construction across the street looks like it will be happening for quite some time. Don't bother with the 'wine' hour thing. We showed up to an empty bottle of wine and a plate with a few crusty cheese leftovers. Breakfast is nothing to speak about either. And I don't recommend the 'cookie' they leave in your room because that did not seem sanitary at all. They do give you eye masks, which you need when the bright morning sun comes through the shade slates because there are no curtains. There were a lot of TV channels, so that is nice? No way to plug in and use your own Fire Stick or anything though or use your own Netflix accounts or the like. If it is all about the location, then the location is terrific. Everything else, expect a cheap, run down motel with a fresh surface makeover at not so cheap prices, and that's exactly what you are going to get. read more

Menlo Park Inn is more of a motel rather than a hotel, but it has a lot of good amenities. While they are pretty strict with the check-in time (no early check-in here!), I liked my room. It was cozy and clean and everything was presented very thoughtfully. The soap and shampoo were excellent, the snacks were a nice touch, and the reminders about water usage were very smart. I think it's time they invest in new towels and sheets though - my towels were pretty threadbare and the sheets were scratchy. The breakfast was much better than I expected, with lots of choices ranging from oatmeal, to hard-boiled eggs, to yogurt and fruit, to muffins and bread. Starbucks coffee was served, as well as Tazo tea. The desk staff were varied. Some were really friendly, while others just basically ignored me. Not the best feeling... Be aware that you will hear the whistle as the Caltrain goes by late at night and early in the morning, but I think that's true of everything around there. read more

Check in time was 2 pm. We arrived at 2:25 and had to wait 45 minutes for our room. Room was fine. Later on, I bought 2 cans of diet Coke from their office for $4. We took a few sips and the taste was horrible. I checked the bottom of the cans to see the expiration dates and they were 4 months past the pull date. Next day after checking out, I showed a can to the clerk in the office and told her about the expired dates and how horrible the cokes tasted. Her response was, "would you throw the can away?" Totally insensitive response. I said "no, you look at the expiration date and you throw it away". As I was leaving, she told me that I was going to be put on their 'no return' list. The manager, to his credit, contacted me and apologized for the employee's attitude and gave us a $50 deduction from our bill. read more

My room was just as pictured/advertised, well furnished/equipped for business travel (work desk, ports), and came with a mini fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, and nice armchair with ottoman. I stayed 4 nights and was glad to have this comfortable, affordable, well-located lodging in pricey Silicon Valley. Friendly staff and good sized rooms, but absolute garbage Wi-Fi. Almost counts as non-existent considering how constantly it drops the signal to my iPhone or iPad. If I actually had to do online work at this hotel I would have left after the first night and asked for some sort of a refund or discount or something. Also the room, while decent looking, had kind of a musty, used-clothing-store type smell. A lot like Goodwill. Also the noise. This hotel is one of the most poorly insulated ones that I have stayed at, and I travel constantly for work so I stay in hotels all the time. I could tell when the kids in the room next-door woke up, even though they weren't being loud the lack of soundproofing made the sounds crystal clear. Regreting not taking pictures. Hopefully someone else with a similar review will do so. This is my third stay at this hotel in 6 years. It has gone downhill unfortunately. Under new ownership? We loved this hotel. Good location. Good price. Cute and quaint. Nice and comfortable. Not anymore. 1. The carpet has been removed from the rooms leaving a weird lineolum which has a pattern to look like carpet. WHY? We didn't like the feel of it. It was also really dark and didn't match the furniture. It made the rooms dark too. Not comfortable. 2. Noisey. Don't get a downstairs room. Water dripped non stop. The AC rattled. And the walls are thin. Our loud snoring neighbor kept us up all night! We could also clearly hear the neighbors TV thru the walls. 3. The Windows have shutters that were not properly put in. One was tilted and left a good opening to clearly see into the room from the outside. This also allowed sun light in, in the morning that was perfect eye level in the bed. Not good for sleeping in. 4. There was no outlet cover for the TV, lamps, phone, etc at the desk. This was not a problem for me BUT is not safe for children. 5. The bed was less comfortable than we remember. It could just be that everything else made us uncomfortable or that the beds need updated. This hotel has so much potential. I'm shocked by some of the bad reviews. I've been staying at the Inn two nights a week since June for work. It's a very comfortable place and I've liked my rooms. If it's too light out, use the nice eye shades they give you. Same with the noise, they give you earplugs (you are off El Camino after all) and you get slippers. You are not going to find any place in that area that's walls aren't fairly thin. Obviously I really like the Inn or I wouldn't have been coming back every week. Only thing I wish they did, is have a discount for booking 2 nights a week every month for many ongoing months :-) The staff is super nice!! read more

A modern Silicon Valley-esque motel with your basic amenities. I've stayed here for two occasions, and it is honestly the most appropriately priced places to stay near Stanford. In comparison to other motels in the area, this place is much more cleaner and modernized. It's located in the heart of Menlo Park, and is a 5-10 minute drive to Stanford campus. When you walk through the lobby at checkin, they provide brewed Starbucks coffee, sparkling juice, cheese and crackers if you need a snack. There's also a welcome package in the room that includes a cookie, trail mix, bottle of water, eye mask, ear plug, pair of slippers, and a message from the manager folded into an airplane. The breakfast is pretty minimal, but their Greek yogurt bar is worth trying out. Overall my "Xperience" here has been great. XCEPT for the time when I reserved a room with two queen beds for three nights, and got a room with two twin beds instead. We noticed the beds were too small after the first night, and went to the front desk to switch rooms. The front desk staff told us that our beds were actually queen sized. We knew this wasn't true from our previous stay. After some talking back and forth, she finally agreed to switch rooms for us. I was moving to Stanford and had a ton of packages in my room, so I asked if there is a vacant room right now so I can move my stuff there. She keeps on insisting that I checkout first, come back after cleaning, and checkin again. She had very poor communication skills and didn't seem to understand my request at all, so I gave up. Then after an hour later, another staff member started working their shift. I made the same request and the new person said that they did actually have a vacant room, checked to make sure it was clean, and let us move our stuff to the new room. read more

My gawd this place is horrid. Old hard mattresses and you can hear right through the walls. On arrival I complained to the front desk and I asked to be moved due to the Loud Man next door making repeated phone calls and I could hear every word. The Front Desk told me a firm NO. Now it is 12:15 AM and the man is still screaming into the phone. Since I can't sleep, I started checking online reviews and see that others have reported bed bugs and loud noise. I found hairs stuck to the sheets! EEEK Do Not stay here. The good reviews are fake! Spend and extra 20.00 and get a 3.5 star. I have never asked to be moved to a different room and told NO. Management is Always supposed to make the customer happy. They had plenty of extra rooms and they know they have paper thin walls, they should have moved me when I asked! All things considered.... it was clean... they didn't bother me.... they let me check out late... and everything about it was easy. It's a motel that got a face lift on the outside but they provide direct TV, a mini fridge... and you can get complimentary hot beverages in the office. They also provide face masks and ear plugs. I can't believe this place is receiving positive reviews. I get it, Palo Alto is expensive and options are limited. But $350/night for a Motel 8? I visited from 03/20-22 in room 201. My personal hell: 1. I specifically requested they charge the card on file. I was told this wouldn't be a problem. They charged the wrong card and never contacted me about it. 2. I provided an e-mail for receipts, and can't get them to send me a receipt. They wouldn't provide a hard copy upon check out. 3. I asked to switch rooms further from the street after my first night. I was told "no problem" and gave them my luggage. I returned later that night and the receptionist had NO idea what I was talking about, was hesitant to return my luggage, and put me right back in room 201 4. No one on the phone can help you, and their "contact us" form is BROKEN. So you can't even submit an online request for help! Set your expectations: - You will hear the noise of cars on the main street and the train running all night (it hits its horn right at the hotel) - You will be unable to run the fan all night as it shuts off after a temp is met - 65 is the lowest temperature setting - The water pressure is nonexistent - You will hear people locking their cars all night long - You will hear everything your neighbors are doing - The lights are on all nights, and there are no shades to effectively darken the room - No one can help you with any problems you have - Unlikely you'll feel safe read more

BEWARE of PRICE HIKES! Our business used this hotel for one of our guests. To begin the nightly average price is crazy $329.99 with a $40.24 tax fee so came out to $370.23 for a standard room. The guest needed two nights, but since they had events going on they decided to hike up the price to $899.99 with tax of $109.75 for that second night and so with the tax it came out to $1009.74 for the EXACT SAME ROOM. There is nothing special about this hotel to charge this much for a standard room. Way to secure business...the Cardinal Hotel or Stanford Terrace Inn are much better places, it's too bad they were booked and we had to resort to these thieves. So this place was far from my first choice, but when you book with 3 day notice you end up where a room is available. So I went into this thinking this place was going to be pretty bad. I was pleasantly surprised. This place is clearly a renovated motor inn, but the rooms were actually very nice. The bed was very comfortable and I liked that they had 2 sets of pillows on the bed. One set was firm while the other set was soft. I thought this was a nice touch so people with either preference would be happy. There was a big brand new flat screen TV with a ton of cable channels. The furniture all looked like it came from Ikea, but I don't consider that a bad thing. There was also a fridge & microwave. The bathroom was nothing special and had been updated, but not in way that was too impressive. The free breakfast was decent and was very reminiscent of the one that they serve at Hampton Inns. They even had the same container for the muffins & bread. The knocks I had on this place were that parking lot was not big enough for all the cars and things were pretty tight. The WiFi worked, but was on the slow side. The price was pretty low so I felt it was a pretty decent deal. So overall if price is your main consideration then this is a good choice. read more

This place is extremely deceptive, but in a good way. Originally booked at Hotel Zico, but was politely asked to transfer due to overbooking issue. I looked this place up on Yelp and saw that it was going for over $100 and thought that it must be decent. Pulled up with my girlfriend, after telling her that we got moved over to a more expensive hotel, only to drive into a tiny motel parking lot surrounded by a Motel 6-esque 2 story corridor of white doors and a tiny little office. Looked over at her and promised it would be nicer inside, but I really had no clue. The main outdoor picture on Yelp and several of the other review sites looks nothing like this place, and I really couldn't even figure out where they took it. Anyways, we finally got to our room and stepped inside and it was marvelous, huge, and comfortable! Massive bed with a mattress and blankets like home, a sink/mirror room as big as two closets and separate from the bathroom, a TV with normal satellite cable, and much more! We both loved it, aesthetically and functionally. The air conditioner was a bit loud, but it definitely kept us cool on a 90+ day. Not only are the rooms deceivingly amazing, but this hotel adds to your experience by adding on many unique touches. Fresh baked cookies in the office, a bag of chips and 2 waters in your room (haha?), free DVDs to rent (plus a DVD player in the room), and simple/semi-fast wi-fi make this place a 4.5. You know when you've been traveling all day (alllllll day) and you've been on a plane since before dawn and it's been a hot, delayed, long day and you're totally fried and all you want is to lay down and die - er, sleep - and it's raining and everything's gone wrong? And you pull up to the motel, and you think, "enh, I don't know..." but then you walk through the door and they give you...cookies? And the card keys to a huge room with a fridge/microwave, two bottles of (free) water and (free) Doritos, and a comfortable bed? And then your day magically gets redeemed? Yeah, me too! Please overlook the outside of Menlo Park Inn. I'd prefer that they changed the website to reflect the way it currently is (the inside is lovely! and the outside is just not hip, is all), but this is minor compared with the amount of service and comfort we received staying here, and *this* is what I want people to know about. The staff is so nice, collectively, and individually. One morning, a staff member heard me struggling with a problem in their lounge, and spent twenty minutes mapping out some directions and telling me local secrets to help me get my job done. I didn't ask him to help me; he just heard me on the phone and said, "hey, sounds like you could use a hand and a map." Yes, I totally needed both. Bless his little heart. And then later on, another staff member made sure I got fed on an off-hour, which is unheard of in the land of hospitality. I even forgot something important (somewhere in California), and they kept in contact with me and the rest of their staff to try to reunite me with my missing thing. It's not just that all the staff members I met did kind things for me, which they did. It IS, however, really significant that they did all these things without batting an eye, and with great kindness to me. I felt like the customer service I received there was the make-or-break of my trip. I'll be back, too. The location (on El Camino Real) was not a problem for me. In fact, it meant that I was just as well-situated for Palo Alto as Redwood City. There are plenty of places to eat nearby, delivery and otherwise. Some nuts-and-bolts that will tweak your stay: they have two wireless logins - definitely use the SECOND one. Works much better. If you go down to the registration lobby and "like" them on Facebook, they give you a vending item. Go eat their breakfast - even if you typically skip hotel/motel breakfasts - I watched TV in the eating area, made oatmeal and waffles, had hard-boiled eggs and yogurt and an apple, and drank tea until the cows came home. This was very good self-service breakfast, and I really appreciated that they have a contract with Otis Spunkmeyer for cookies and muffins because, free cookies and muffins of quality. Also, Nutri-Grain bars. These were not things I expected to see, and I was so psyched that I did! The bathroom in their lobby is fully accessible, as is their lobby, and their first-floor motel rooms. If you need to do laundry, they don't have coin-op machines but if you plan ahead, you can get your laundry done by their service. I'd suggest parking on the right because the straight lines (rather than slanted lines) help you to back out and drive forward more easily. Do keep in mind that this was a purely business visit for me. All of the amenities and comforts were really important for me, and meant a lot to me. The fact that the room was ridiculously comfortable, with a LOT of cable TV (plus DVDs to rent? what?! and I totally did, too), combined with a no-smoking property, a low relative pricetag (around $100/night), and the fact that when I needed staff, they were there for me, but when I didn't, they left me alone, equals excellence. read more

Did not uphold Reservation I had booked a handicapped room for my elderly parent during the Holidays. I had a confirmation for 3 nights. When we arrived, they had sold her room (probably for a higher price) and did not have a room for her, 2 days before Christmas. It was quite stressful and we found a room at the Stanford Park Hotel, where they gave us a great rate and I demanded the difference of $60 a night from Menlo Park inn. The clerk had to contact her boss and they eventually gave me the $60 in cash, which was rather unusual too. The whole experience was very unprofessional and untrustworthy. read more

Well, I got bedbugs here last year. Three of my coworkers have also gotten bedbug bites here, over a period of at least 18 months, and I know at least one other coworker ended up with a full-on infestation like I did. I contacted the management and they did not address my concern, apologize, offer me a refund, or act like this was out of the ordinary. It took several months, a lot of stress, and about $1000 to rectify the situation. I work for a company whose main office is in Menlo Park, so I've made sure we don't use MPI for the projects I'm on, and I've spread the word through our local office in DC. The unsightly construction isn't exactly helping, and lately I've been staying at Red Cottage Inn and breathing a sigh of relief every time I walk by and remember that I don't have to stay there. read more

What's surprising about the Menlo Park Inn is that, in spite of its "motel" configuration and location right on Alameda de las Pulgas, it inhabits a bubble of calm, quiet, and decency. The rooms are clean with decent appointments in good condition. The staff are civil and competent -- not something you can count on even in the fanciest hotels in the same neighborhood. This was really a pleasant surprise from what we saw when we first drove up. The outside is under construction and we were slightly concerned when we pulled in. To our surprise this was one of the most relaxing and spacious rooms. They left us snacks and water bottles free of charge. Their TV had a lot more channels than most hotels as well as a cable guide. After driving for several hours and knowing that we will have to wake up and travel again for another seven hours the next day, the Menlo Inn had a nice all around easy-going vibe. I had a comfortable and pleasant stay here. The room was clean, but very spacious. The room also had a mini fridge, a microwave, and a coffee maker. Its a small Inn but looks newly remodeled. The front desk agent was very helpful as far as finding restaurants and stores near by. They do offer coffee, tea, and water in the lobby at all times. Continental breakfast was until 8 or 9 am I believe? Over all, pleasant stay. read more

Very disappointed. I have been staying at this Hotel for the last 3 years on and off, as we have medical visits at Stanford Medical Center that require overnights on occasion. When we started in Nov. of 2013 they were under renovation. Renovation has been complete for awhile now. We recently stayed in 2 rooms (#107 and 108) the evening 10/2/16, both rooms had filthy carpet. Both rooms carpeting had severe bad stains and were just gross to even think about walking on. This was really disappointing as we know the carpeting is fairly new. Not only was it badly stained, it was just plain dirty in the traffic areas. Sad to say won't be staying here any more. read more

Cute place, clean but LISTEN only stay in upstairs rooms! I'm in a downstairs room and didn't get any sleep thanks to the loud stomping upstairs occupants. It's an old remodeled place but walls are thin and floors squeaky. We got to ride along with each squeak of the bed with their late night pounding. I'm not blaming the amorous couple so much , though less yelling 'oh' at 3 am would have been more considerate, it's just an old place. So if you must stay here, STAY UP STAIRS!!! And for goodness sakes walk lightly upon your neighbor below!!! read more

The extreme room air freshener scent made me wonder what it was masking. We could hear the the guests in the rooms next to us talking and watching TV. When the guest in the next room's alarm went off in the morning, I thought it was my husband's alarm. The room was clean. The staff were very professional and helpful. read more
