The waitstaff was wearing a traditional attired uniform. Since we are from out of town, I want my friend to try the San Antonio version of fajita. I ordered menudo as my usual weekend treat. He loved his food. I didn't. The soup was watered down and lacking texture. There were a lot of hominy. Because we both wanted corn tortillas, there was only one container. I don't know how many tortillas were given. I only had 2. He must be hungry. We looked around... umm... we didn't see any napkins. I pulled out my sanitizer and started to clean our hands. What's worse is the $20 price that I foolishly wasted when I could've gotten better fish from Laguna Madre and I don't even like that place. I mean who in their right mind goes to a BBQ place for fish? And the last time I came here wasn't any different. The brisket was dry and the sausage and turkey were mid. The creamed corn was ok and the pinto beans weren't hot enough. Oh and the last 2 times I ate here, they were out of my favorite item and the only good thing they serve here, the peach cobbler. Instead I got the banana pudding which was just like those crappy, pre-made banana pudding cups found at any roadside chain gas station/convenience store like Buc-ee's or The Texan. It is roomy and spacious inside and the seating consists of picnic tables designed for crowds of people and has live music on the weekends. When you pull up to the restaurant there's a storefront reminiscent of an old Western film with a 7up logo. Texas Pride is one of those overhyped and overrated BBQ joints that probably used to be good in its heyday which was probably back in the mid 90s to 2000s but then fell off drastically somewhere along the line. Do your appetite and wallet a favor and bypass TP BBQ and make the extra drive to La Vernia and go to Rabel's off FM 775 and FM 1346 and thank me later!
