Great variety. BBQ, burgers,salads and steak. My husband had the Prime rib special with Steak Diane sauce (look at Julia Child's presentation) ( sauce not stew) . It had a touch more mustard than it should and way too much sauce. The mashed potatoes were good and so were the grilled vegetables and cornbread. Only complaint it was swimming in sauce. I had the brisket burger on a jalapeno roll, fries. It was very good. It's noisy, clean. Will eat here again. The cobbler was one of the best I have ever had. read more

We decided to check out the Friday Night specials and both were terrific. The shrimp was outstanding with a light coating and the fish was so light and flavorful. From start to finish, we received great attentive service and the ambiance was friendly and fun. The food was served hot and fresh which was much appreciated. The menu was super full! Very tasty food! Enjoyed that we were not rushed at all. The place is light and airy inside and very comfortable My husband and I met some friends there for dinner one Sarurday evening at 530pm. It was not too busy. We walked in and there was 1 set of people ahead of us. However, by about 10 minutes after we ordered, the place because very full! Every bite of food was amazing. Moost, tender brisket, pulled pork and very tasty, not too spicy jalapeño cream corn. The coleslaw slaw and potato salad were also on point. We ordered, then we went to get our drinks and sit down. They brought the food out to us. It was a fun atmosphere. They did have what appeared to be a pretty full bar, however, we did not partake. Very enjoyable! It's been one year since I left a review saying that the service here was slow but the food was great. I pointed out that they needed significant improvement in the "flow" of operations. Although they didn't reply to my review, they have fixed everything completely and then some. Food now comes out fast, it still tastes great, and they have a huge variety. You can get everything here from barbecue to a quesadilla, Rabels how's it all. They are an asset to this community and by far the best restaurant in and around La Vernia!!!!! read more

I got a 3 meat plate, brisket sausage and ribs and 2 sides, jalapeño cream corn and coleslaw. The sides were amazing. Oh and the meats were top notch. They are super generous with the portions here. The service is friendly too. The seating is similar to what you see at Rudy's, family style. And they got good sweet tea. Rabel's is located at the corner of 1346 and 775 and is hard to find due to the lack of any signage. Even though I used the GPS on my phone I missed getting here and ended up a few blocks away and got a bit lost but found it a few minutes later. Casual, family dining. You order at the counter then find a seat. The food is fantastic. We had a 2 meat plate: brisket, jalapeño sausage, Mac and cheese, and jalapeño cream of corn. Ordered hamburger no cheese because cheese here cost $2.00, fries looked great. Got hamburger with 1/4 meat missing. Sent back and upon return got fries that were the bottom of the fryer crispy and not fries at all... Burger was sadly not appetizing. Pictures attached. Way over priced, but they are convenient. We went on a Friday so it was really busy , yet the service was quick and I kinda liked the shared table space. My husband got the 3 meat plate , which was amazing ( the meat actually fell off the rib bones!!), he enjoyed his okra and Mac and cheese as well. This place just moved from Seguin to La Vernia so we decided to try it out. Good decision! They have all manner of bbq and sides. We walked in and there was quite a line to order so we were almost going to leave but they moved that line with amazing speed, but when it was our turn to order it didn't feel rushed at all. The young man taking our order was very friendly. My wife got the loaded spud with chopped brisket and it was very good. The brisket had a good flavor and the spud was very generous - good stuff. I had the prime brisket burger with cheese on a jalapeño bun. I had them add 'pickles' which are really pickled cucumbers and really, really tasty I might add. The brisket burger just melted in my mouth and the bun - very good. I would order this anytime! I also tried the Jalapeño creamed corn which was also really good and the potato salad which good - not the best I've had - needs a little more flavor, but still good. We also tried the blueberry cobbler (they were sold out of peach) and it was also really good! The crust was just a bit crispy (which made it good) and buttery and the blueberry was legit blueberry. The only 'negative' was that the bottles they use for bbq sauce kept clogging because the spices in the sauce keep getting stuck - we watched several folks around us have the same problem - but that's an easy fix - just cut the tip a bit wider. I would HIGHLY recommend Rabel's. We've long lamented that the restaurants in La Vernia were so so -- finally a place that is really good! We will no doubt be back very often! read more

It's a nice atmosphere. Most of the food was good. The bad side which is causing the low rating...we ordered a plain cheeseburger. Got it loaded; sent it back. They scraped it off and sent it back....same burger, same bread...with mustard all over it. We also ordered a $40 steak. What we got was definitely not at the level you would expect for $40. We spent a lot of money here just to find how lazy and cheap they are. Won't be coming back. read more

Finally got the chance to try the Friday Fish Fry and it did not disappoint. Several large piece pieces of fish that were breaded with cornmeal, best way in my opinion, followed by some delicious fries and coleslaw. If you plan on getting the fish, call ahead as they make it to order. read more

This is some solid BBQ, we were not disappointed one bit! We came out here looking for delicious BBQ after our normal spots were closed for the day. We are so glad we did! We got the marble brisket, jalepeno sausage and pork ribs. Everything was tender and delicious. I would have preferred a bit more smoke, but thats just my preference. My wife and MIL thought this was fantastic, and they are not wrong. The banana pudding was brilliant, best Ive had in a long time! Everyone was super friendly and helpful and you could tell they enjoyed their work. This is a newer place, not a lot of time to really get that "old roadside spot" vibe, but I like that they didnt throw a bunch of random stuff all over the walls to fake it either. Give me authenticity any day! All in all I would rate this well above Black's out in Lockhart and on par with 2M or BBQLIFE in San Antonio. Definitely worth the trip! read more

Fathers' Day 2025 - arrived after Church, with no reservation. The wait was about 5-7 minutes. I ordered the prime rib - rare - and was given a buzzer to let us know when our food was ready. Prime Rib - rare - can be somewhat difficult to execute. Cooked and hot, but not overdone. They nailed it ! Because they saw that we were two seniors (with walker and cane), they brought our food to us, instead of having us go up to the counter and pick up our trays. When I say fork tender, I MEAN fork tender. No knife needed! Perfectly executed - hot, plenty of au jus, full of flavor, and just melt in your mouth! The portion was so generous, I brought half of it home, to enjoy the next day. Hubby's brisket had a perfect smoke ring, and so juicy it ran down the side of his arm! Thankfully he was wearing a short sleeve shirt ! Because we don't go out to eat often, I'd say a little pricy, but oh oh oh so well worth it! I got to try this new place in LaVernia and was not disappointed. I had their BBQ before at a catered event and was also pleasantly surprised. The brisket had good texture and good flavor. It had some resistance when you pulled a slice apart but it was not chewy. The ribs were well cooked also. I liked the fact that they served full pork spare ribs instead of the St. Louis stile or baby back ribs. Those are easy to get right. There is more challenge in smoking the spare rib. The only thing I wish they did with the ribs would have been a glaze of bbq sauce or brown sugar just to add to the flavor of the rib. However they were still good. The had a white BBQ sauce that tasted like mayonnaise and Apple cider vinegar; it did not impress me but the regular tomato based sauce was spot on. This place is good. You need to try it. Service was good and the building was new so no complaints on either from me. read more

Went for lunch to try that burger. Burger with cheese on jalapeno bun with fries was juicy and delicious. Didn't know it would be a smash and it was excellent - crispy edge like it's supposed to be. Dining partner loved her brisket plate with mac n cheese and green beans. I've had the brisket before in former location but she let me have a bite and it was smoky and moist and tasty. New location is very nice and clean and they had plenty of friendly help. I don't get to LaVernia often but it will be our go-to when we go back. read more
