I live down the street and wish they had hours that they are open late. The food is fresh and homestyle.

We came at lunch hour and we were immediately greeted at the door. They had space to accommodate seven of us. Our drink orders and lunch orders were put in quickly and all meals came out to us at the same time. Everyone at the table tried versions of the famous Jalapeño chicken. & not one of us had a complaint. I recommend the Jalapeño chicken fried steak.

The food was excellent!! Very friendly staff took our order right away and brought the food very quickly. The building is a little crowded but the atmosphere was more like eating with tons on friends. I had the Jalapeño fried chicken with brown gravy. Both were amazing. The fried okra was very bland. The half team spinach was super delicious! It's a ways out of the way but I'll make the trip again!

Great service & awesome food! They make their bread! I've had the breakfast sandwiches, they are hot & delicious! Try one, then give me my thumbs up! I tried the chicken fried steak, it was perfect. Not small not over sized, perfect breading, not greasy at all! The gravy was smooth & tasty. On Friday they serve turkey! Thats next! Get some, now!

Restaurant gives a rustic cozy vibe. Went at lunch hour. Very busy but was seated right away. 1st time there. A little cramped when you walk in cause it was busy. Plenty of southern comfort food options. I had the fried fish and fried chicken piece lunch special. Green beans and mash for sides. The fish was light and airy. Jalapeño fried chicken was fried to perfection and very juicy. Green beans were a bit bland and so was the mash. Food was warm but not hot. The homemade bread was delicious. All in all it is a great deal and food was good. Prices are very affordable and I was in and out in about 30mins. Service was great! Will go back to try the turkey and stuffing when it's not so busy.

My first visit to this Mecca of all things fried! This place is famous for their jalapeño fried steak and jalapeño fried chicken. I opted for the regular chicken fried steak so I could judge as such. It was meaty with a nice crisp crust. Very tasty and with the $9 daily lunch special. The fried okra, fried onion rings and gravy were all very good. I would have liked the onion rings to be a bit thicker, but all things considered, they were tasty. . My son had the jalapeño fried chicken thighs. This is a deceptive title because they are served flattened and without bones. Basically a couple of smaller, yet moist, chicken fried chicken with the jalapeño kicking the flavor up a notch or two. Sadly, by 12:45, they were out of their homemade pies. I'll look forward to those on the next visit.

I went to see where he gave high marks in San Antonio. Cappy's was in his recent review list and only a 16 minute drive from our hotel on the river walk. My husband ordered the old fashioned that he enjoyed very much. I had SPANISH TONIC mocktail (chamomile, juniper, pink peppercorn, mint and lemon) it was lovely. We also had the shrimp and Brussels. OH my was it delicious. It's was a generous portion and I thought we'd not finish it, but we did. The use of chilli oil didn't make it too hot, but perfect. The shrimp were so light and perfectly fried. I ordered the mustang chicken. Wow was it delicious. The vegetables were perfectly roasted. I gave my husband the mushrooms but I ate the okra, carrots, zucchini and it was excellent. The chicken was soooo very tender and so flavorful! The mashed potatoes were heavenly! My husband had the Beef Tenderloin. It was perfectly prepared to his medium rare request. He enjoyed it very much. He also liked very much my chicken! He liked the fingerlings, but had more of my mashed potatoes ! These are not normal mashed. They truly are extraordinary! Mallory the manager came by to see how we were enjoying it. I explained how I found it and it was our first time. She offered a first timers dessert. I didn't think we'd have room, but we managed and had the Sticky Pudding. An absolute Perfect way to w d a perfect meal! Well done team! Have already told the hotel staff they need to go there and recommend yo people who want a wonderful meal!!! Hope to come again next time we visit San Antonio!!!

Unfortunately, the experience changed once we were seated. Our waiter was incredibly short and came across as rude throughout the meal. When we asked for recommendations or some of his favorite menu items, his response was essentially, "I don't know what you like," rather than offering any guidance. The service somehow felt rushed even though the food itself came out slowly, and there were very few check-ins during the meal. When it came time for dessert, we asked to see a dessert menu and were simply told, "It's on the menu you have," which summed up the lack of hospitality we experienced at the table. I ordered the Mustang Chicken, and unfortunately it was very disappointing. The chicken was fatty, full of tendon, and tasted more like a frozen piece of chicken that had been dropped into a deep fryer than something I would expect from a restaurant at this price point. It's disappointing because the restaurant has a great atmosphere and our experience at the bar started off so well. Unfortunately, between the table service and the quality of the food, I would not recommend Cappy's based on this visit.

Reservations: Made reservations online and the process was super easy. I'd recommend reserving ahead since the restaurant is on the smaller side. Service: Friendly, attentive staff. Everyone was welcoming and helpful throughout the meal. No complaints here. Ambiance: Cute, intimate spot that works really well for a date night. The restaurant is pretty small, though, and can feel a little crowded. We were seated next to the cashier area & felt less intimate. Food: vegetarian review Really good overall, especially if you like creative/seasonal dishes. We're vegetarian and had some good options. Tofu dish: AMAZING -- definitely the standout of the meal. lemon Pasta: Much better than expected and really flavorful. salad: Tried one of the new salads and the fennel was SO good. Fresh and nicely done. Price: A little pricey, but I thought the quality was worth it. We spent around $75 for two people without dessert, which felt reasonable for the quality and type of restaurant. Vegetarian-friendly: Definitely doable for vegetarians, although the options are more limited than at a vegetarian restaurant. Overall: Really enjoyed our dinner. Great food, friendly service, and a nice intimate atmosphere for a date night. The small/crowded space is my only real negative. Would definitely try Magpie again!

The lady at the counter was nice and when we ordered the burgers she asked if we wanted everything on it. I always appreciate when they ask that because sometimes I forget to say I don't want mustard or pickles. The food was alright, almost down right bad. Not at all close to good. The fries and onion rings were a let down, the fries had a weird after taste and it wasn't seasoning because they weren't seasoned or salted at all. The onion rings weren't season or salted at all, basically fried onions but no salt. The milkshake was not good. Did not taste like typical chocolate, not sure what they could've used because it doesn't take like a syrup or ice cream I've had before. Lastly, the sweet tea was so strong that all the ratios were wrong. Tea,water and sugar all wrong proportions because it tasted like very strong black tea with little amount of sugar. The only saving grace was the chili cheese dog, but nothing special about it, literally hot dug bun, hotdog, chili and very little cheese. Will not be coming back unfortunately. I feel almost disgusted and gagged by what I ate.
