I read all the yelp reviews and thought it would be a great place to take my favorite (and prized) See by Chloe bag to get the strap shortened. I am short, and all it would have required was to cut it and shorten the leather strap, there are two movable leather circles, one on either side that hide the sewing. I would have done it myself, but I love it so much I thought I should treat it right. I went to go pick up my bag, and it had been shortened exactly as discussed, but it was glued back together instead of sewn!!! I could cry right now, as the leather is ruined and already tearing where the glue is on either side of the leather circle...which has been glued in place in addition to the strap. read more

I brought a bag in; the strap had torn off. I'm in DC only for a limited time; and I told them this. When I picked the bag up less than two hours later, I couldn't even figure out where the repair was, and that's saying a lot, because the bag had a lining that had to be removed in order to resew the strap. Then, looking very carefully, I noticed that they had reinforced the strap with a second, inner, piece of leather. Now I wish I had had them do all four places where the two straps attach to the bag. If I lived here, this would be my go-to place, for sure! read more

So I found this gem of a spot a little over year with a little help from Yelp. It was good. Until this weekend when I could see Corrective Shoe's greatness. I handed in an Epi Alma. The zipper fabric had torn. Louis Vuitton wanted an ungodly sum to inspect the piece. I took it here for less than 1/2 of what Louis was going to inspect it for I got the zipper repaired. They kept all the identifying tags in place and removed scratches I thought would be there forever. Just an amazing job the bag looks new. read more

Brought some hiking boots in to have the synthetic "rubber" on the toe replaced. They said 2 weeks. When 2 weeks came and went I called and they said they needed to order the rubber and it would be another week. Well a few days later they called to say they were ready. I was disappointed in what I saw. The brown toe was now black, which looked very weird on light brown boots. The rubber piece was cut in a strange fashion and the glue marks were evident. UPDATE: After trying my hiking boots out in the 2.5+ ft snow I'm happy to say that they are indeed water-tight. I'm still not happy with the black rubber and appearance of the shoes, but they are functional. Let's face it, function should always supersede fashion. It's nice to have both, but the former is always more important. read more

Poor Quality Luggage Repair I went here because it received fantastic reviews from other yelpers, but I was dismayed when I saw the shoddy work done by Corrective Shoe Repair. I brought in my bag to replace 5 broken clips. The total bill was over $60 and the quality of work was horrible. First, I noticed that they tried to cram the strap into smaller clips so that the strap does not slide easily anymore. To illustrate, the strap in .5 inch and they tried to use .25 inch clips. Second, they did not use clips that were remotely comparable to the clips that were on the original bag. I feel scammed and I will never return to Corrective Shoe Repair again. read more

I have had several pairs of shoes worked on here over the past 4 years. Initially the service/quality was pretty good, but in the past 2 years it has been nothing but problems. They generally come highly recommended so I keep giving them another try, but after they ruined 2 pairs of one-of-a-kind shoes (vintage boots, and a pair of past-season high-end sandals I had scored for my wedding) I will never go back. If you only need something simple like a heel tap or zip sole, you could go here (but it will cost you more than elsewhere and the work has been very sloppy the past several times I've had this done). But if you need anything more complex like a heel replacement, strap adjustment, etc. AVOID CORRECTIVE SHOE REPAIR. It took them four tries to adjust the calf of a pair of boots I purchased and even then they weren't right but they had messed them up so much that they were sadly beyond repair (I never even got to wear the shoes I purchased). Ditto the "simple" strap adjustment on my wedding sandals -- they are now beyond repair and I'm out the money I spent on them, not to mention that my wedding is coming up and I have no shoes to wear. Nelson (the owner) is a bit haughty but he is generally reasonably honest and fair. His employees range from clueless to downright rude and disrespectful (definitely beware of the younger one who wears a baseball hat, especially if you are a female). read more

This is what DC used to be like. These guys are craftsmen. They are miracle workers with shoes and luggage. They have saved me hundreds and hundreds of dollars in replacement shoes and boots. They are emphatically not warm and fuzzy, but after you've been in there a few times, they're flexible about turn-around time, and they'll suggest detail work you wouldn't have noticed. read more

Corrective shoe repair ruined my brand new pair of Tod's loafers. I brought them in to get rubber soles and instead of simply converting the driver bumps into rubber soles, they shrunk the shoes in the process with unnecessary heat and pressure. I have never gone back since and neither should you if you are thinking about it. This experience was so bad I now take my shoes to New York to get them repaired at my old shoe repair store that everyone in the City goes to. Washington sucks. read more

This place is amazing. Admittedly, not the cheapest place ever- although my boyfriend can get his Allan Edmund shoes resoled here for $45 rather than $125, as the service is priced at Nordstrom's. CSR can provide services I've not previously found elsewhere and the quality of workmanship is excellent. They made my suitcase which has traveled probably 300,000+ miles look almost brand new (zippers and all). And they fixed an amazing pair of sandals I've had for over a year but was not able to wear due to a too-long strap... a seemingly impossible task, but not for CSR. read more

I've taken about eight pairs of shoes and boots here (from high end to low end) during the last several years and I've always had a great experience. They can literally make worn shoes look like new. And the results, for me, have lasted a while. One of the pairs I brought them are an unusual turquoise, and they were able to match the color perfectly. I haven't been able to find a good shoe repair store since I moved from California until I came to Corrective Shoe Repair by the advice of the Frye store in Georgetown. Everyone is very friendly and they do an absolutely incredible job. The boots I brought them feel like new after they were able to repair a broken shenk (sp?). The hassle of driving and finding parking in Dupont Circle is worth it to get my shoes fixed by them. read more

I have been going to Corrective for over 20 years. They have repaired and resoled hundreds of shoes for me and I have rarely had any issues. Their work has been consistently high quality. They have also rejuvenated handbags of mine and I've only had one bag that they could not repair and I had to send it to a specialty shop in NJ. Corrective has also repaired luggage for me. They have extended the life of so many of my belongings. Just two drawbacks- sometimes parking can be a challenge and the turn around time can be almost two weeks but Nelson has worked with me when I needed a service expedited. read more

Who likes to wear heels? I do! Who lives and walks around in a city? Well . . . I took a rather expensive pair of shoes here to have the heel tips replaced. They also reinforced the toes (very important for pointy toes, ladies) and repaired the inside of the heel on one shoe, which was damaged when the heel tip started to go. This is was not an inexpensive repair but it was worth every penny and more. I got those shoes back looking even better than when I initially bought them. If you have invested in good shoes, bring them here first to make them last for longer than you would have ever imagined. read more

Over the last 5 years I had service 3 different times, each time suberb. Firstly a pair of eccos was resoled to look as good as new and still look good years later. Then a Kenneth Cole leather coat needed its bottons/holes redone and a resurfacing. Also excellent. Now my travel bag needed new loops and D-rings. Also fine. I think they doubled the life on $800+ worth for a little morre than $100 total. read more

HORRIBLE JOB! I own many beautiful shoes and I take care in keeping them looking new by taking them to the cobbler whenever there is a need - so I know what good work looks like. This place came recommended and how I wish I would have never listened! I brought in a beautiful pair of grey eel skin pair of Christian Louboutin's that needed a little sprucing up. Because eel leather is extremely sensitive to outside elements, it began staining and I wanted the outside dyed black. They told me they could do it - charged me and arm and a leg (for a job well done, I do not mind - but this is another story), but the end result left me in TEARS! When I went in to pick up my shoes, I was horrified to find that they were SPRAY PAINTED black and the dye kept rubbing off on my fingers. The worst part is that they spray painted the iconic red soles black!!! I asked them to fix the dye job and the soles - what do I find?! Same spray job and painted over red sole. I grabbed my shoes and left. Brought them to someone months later to get fixed and they COULD NOT BELIEVE the horrible job that Corrective Shoe Repair did. Never again! DO NOT TAKE YOUR SHOES THERE! Especially HIGH END - they WILL BE RUINED! Not only that, but the prices they charge are outlandish - especially for the amateur job they do. I wanted to love this place-- I had read the reviews and was certain they could find a way to fix my driving mocs and stretch my Frye boots. So begins my shoe catastrophe. Let me say that I am only giving them 2 stars because they did a nice job on stretching my boots...but....my driving mocs are destroyed. I walked in one sunny Saturday afternoon wondering if somehow a piece of rubber could be added to the toe portion. The guy at the front desk told me that I should have them re-soled. I imagined a soft rubber sole that would be driving moc appropriate. He told me he would have to cut down the little rubber dots (like most driving mocs have) and he would replace so that they would last longer. Remembering all of the wonderful reviews and how they work "magic", I gave him the go ahead. I put a deposit of 20 bucks down. Went in the next week and I was handed a shoe with man's dress sole and a separate flesh colored plastic heel with hardened glue streaks peeking out. I was mortified. I said--- "wow this is not at all what I thought it was going to be". I'll be honest and say that I really had to hold in the tears. I pointed out the fact that I could see the glue and was rudely brushed off. "These will last longer now", I was told. Yes--- they certainly will b/c I no longer will be caught dead in them. They literally look like a craft project. I was then subsequently charged another 46 dollars making my grand total for this mess an astounding 66 dollars. No discount. No apology. Nothing. It took me a few weeks to write this because of how upset I was. I will NEVER go here again. They may be fine for the simple heel fix...shoe shine...and heck..even the boot stretch..BUT...BEWARE. I will forever kick myself for letting them touch my favorite pairs of shoes. read more

Maybe this place does OK repairs on shoes but their repair work on bags is pretty terrible. I took a briefcase here that is a family heirloom to be repaired. The quality of the workmanship was pretty bad. Non matching leather stitched over the top of the older leather and the repair on the clasp was just to add a bigger piece of metal. 6 months later the clasp had broken already and so I paid another $60 to have it "repaired". When I got it back they didn't even tell me that they had broken the clasp - it had to fall apart while I was on a work trip for me to find out. Not good workmanship and certainly not professional. read more

I got a pair of boots re-soled and fixed here a couple months ago. I brought in a pair of leather Steve Madden boots that have been discontinued, but that I still love and am hoping will last for at least one more season until I can find another pair of boots I love equally as much. The soles were coming off, the heels were almost completely worn down, the leather was discolored/a little destroyed at the bottom, and I wasn't sure if anything could be done. I was told that it would be $45 and they could re-sole them and build up the heels, which I deemed was worth it. When I got them back, it was better than I expected, they had new soles, built up heels, had been dyed, polished, and weatherproofed to look good as new!! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because after only 1 wear the new soles are kinda peeling around the toe like the first ones did. But overall very happy with the work done. read more

Disappointing. I had a pair of boots reheeled here. They were pretty unfriendly, charged me what I considered a ridiculously high price compared with other local shoe repair places, and took nearly three weeks to do the repair (an entirely uncomplicated job others have done while I waited). Worst of all, the fifth time I wore the boots after reheeling, I realized both heels had detached and were about to fall off, meaning they needed reheeled once more. Never again. I didn't bother going back - went somewhere else for cheaper, next-day service, and so far, my boots are perfect. read more

I brought two pairs of shoes here for zipsoles. They got the black coating on my gold shoes. They repaired them, but you could see the repair. The owner was also really rude and charged me for the "repair" even though I made a total of four trips to get my shoes!! Also, they never apologized for damaging my shoes. I would never, ever take an expensive pair of shoes here, like Manolos or Louboutins. read more

I was traveling in DC on business and the heel fell off my shoe. I walked in and was helped immediately. I was told they could replace both my heels in 20 minutes. I waited on a chair and read the paper, enjoying the aroma. 20 minutes later my shoes were ready, as promised. Great, friendly service at a reasonable price. This awful place RUINED my louboutins. The heals were coming off the beautiful shoes - this place nailed the heels back in with four huge nails that are now sticking out of the bottom of red.
