We arrived early to reserve the picnic area (first come, first serve) and there is no charge. This park is well maintained, offers so much to all park guests, is safe, and offers so much shade on account of do many large trees. Park visitors always seem to be relaxed and super friendly when spending time here. Be it while playing basketball, softball, soccer, playing tennis, pickleball, walking, jogging or simply relaxing under a tree or out in the sun etc.. being outdoors puts people in a good mood and this is one of the reasons I visit this park 5-6 times per week. Prior to Hollenbeck Park getting renovated we would come to Covina Park. 4/5 Family Events The park does offer family events in the summer (movies, concerts, etc). We've taken the kids to a few movies. 4/5 Recreation Renovated playground gives the kids much needed play. There is a padded walking path near Badillo Ave. Always a lot of people playing fútbol or catch in the open areas. 2/5 Bathrooms Well you do have to worry about this thing Outdated and always smells like urine. A good powerwash could help. 4/5 Parking Street parking available all around. This park doesn't have a designated parking lot. 3.75/5 Likelihood to Return While it's no longer our go to park it's still nice to be able to walk on a spongy trail. They have a small side and a bigger kid side and my son enjoyed playing on both sides. I have noticed unsavory characters in the parking lot before but they left us alone. There seemed to be a restroom in the community center area but it was locked when we went so when my son had to use the restroom, it was time to go! There was also a nice little walking trail as well and baseball courts that we didn't use.

Restrooms are vault toilets, so unpleasant smells and a mess are a given. The lake has lots of swampy algae, therefore not appropriate for swimming or water sports. However, they do allow fishing with permit. I am a nature enthusiast and it was saddening to see the lack of humans respect for nature, with graffiti and trash in some areas of the park. Crystal lake definitely could use more funding to preserve its natural beauty. The loveliest part is listening to woodpeckers as they work, watching an eagle fly above with a fish in its talons, and treading quietly not to startle the squirrel who is crossing my path. I suggest picking up a map with hiking trails from the rangers post or convenience store, before planning your day!

However, I recently became disappointed when I saw blue confetti and a balloon left behind on the bridge after what looked like a gender reveal photo session. I wish people were more mindful and respectful of public spaces. An animal or toddler could easily ingest this balloon that was left behind and could cause serious harm.

There is a round about parking near the entrance with a moderate amount of parking spaces but if you go past that further in there are more parking available. The play ground is quite large compared to other smaller park playgrounds. The cool think i like was that stairs from the first parking lot with the restrooms connect to the playground. So kids can jump right into the fun. Next to the playground its surrounded with plenty of picnic tables (concrete) and lets parents sit and relax while the kids play. The playground has multiple entries with two slides? Two monkey bars, stepping stone style elevated steps, a fireman pole, etc... definitely a fun park to come to. There is a little creek adjacent to the playground where you get a nice tranquil stream of flowing water drowned by the screams and laughter of children in the background, lol.. its nice really and something that sets it apart. We did not go further past the stream but there appears to be additional tables and a trail. Had a great time meeting our friends there and enjoying some fun times with the kids in the process. My kids loved it.

This trail is relatively easy as it only takes about 30 minutes to complete the trail. I also love how most of this trail has plenty of shade. We've signed up our son for parent and kid soccer classes and they were always very patient with the kids. 5/5 Pickleball courts have been added recently and it's increased the foot traffic to the park. It's nice to have it in your backyard. 1/5 Restrooms could use an update. Not sure why there is never a changing table in the men's restroom. The only reason for the 4 stars is the lack of shade. I swear all parks are designed by people…read morewithout kids. There's a shaded area for eating with 2 picnic tables under it, but that's it. The entire play structure and swings are in the beating sun 100% of the time. Today was a very mild 75 degree early summer day and we went early around 10:45. Within 30 minutes of arrival, the slides were so hot our almost 2 y/o son physically reacted every time he touched them. The park is in a very nice and quiet residential area. There's nothing but street parking, but the streets are wide and not busy. The grounds were very clean and well kept. The bathrooms even had soap AND paper towels - yay! Like others said, this structure is mostly appropriate for a toddler as young as ours. He even did ok on the winding slide. Some slides are so steep that he falls forward even though they're supposed to be geared at toddlers, but all 3 slides here were fine for him. However, the only way to get up are monkey bar-like stairs (skinny metal bars) that no toddler can safely use, then the other side has stairs. The stairs are way too far apart for a young one to do alone. He either had to crawl or we held his hands while he took giant steps lol. If you get bored at this park, there are 2 more within ~5 blocks or less heading west! They're off the same street, too. Just go to the north of the block north of the park and take a left and you'll see 2 others fairly quickly. We'll definitely be back because of how clean and safe it felt.
