Before touring Cortland West at Plano (also known as Cortland Legacy), I'll admit the two-star rating gave me pause. I was relocating from Bentonville, Arkansas, and wanted to see the property for myself before ruling it out. I'm so glad I did. I was greeted by a leasing agent named Alan, who was warm and genuinely welcoming from the start. When I mentioned the reviews I'd read, he didn't get defensive -- he offered honest context and was happy to talk through my concerns. We ended up having a real conversation: about my move, what I was looking for, even a bit about his own life. It never felt like a sales pitch. The property manager was just as generous with her time, chatting with me for a good twenty minutes about anything I wanted to ask. I know not every leasing team has that kind of time to give, and I didn't take it for granted. Alan toured me through two different units based on what I described wanting, and was upfront about pricing and every incentive available. Nothing felt hidden or oversold. The property itself backed up the "luxury" label -- the grounds, the playground, the pool area all looked immaculate, practically brand new. In the end, I chose a different community, but that decision came down to budget and needing the best possible rate for the space, not anything about Cortland. The staff and units left a genuinely strong impression, and if my financial situation shifts down the road, I'd absolutely consider making the move to Cortland in the future. read more

I hope to be a warning for any new residents or those who are considering moving in. Cortland is run very simply. If a resident has an issue or complaint, let's work harder to ignore the phone calls, and make sure that the manager is never available to listen or resolve issues. For the last 9 months, I've been trying to get a refund for an $800 ENERGY BILL, FOR A ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT, but every time I show up in person I get told, "sorry our manager is in a meeting, but she can call you back later". Spoiler alert, still no call back. It also doesn't matter how many emails you send, or phone calls you make to get a simple toll tag changed on your account for access to the parking garage. After 5 days of calling, I finally got Christian, in the front office, answering the phone promising to get it fixed, and still NOTHING is working. If you haven't signed your lease or moved in yet, GO TO A DIFFERENT APARTMENT! DO NOT MOVE IN CORTLAND LEGACY! read more

Update February 2020: After speaking with the Cortland Legacy management team, I get the impression that they are truly trying to improve our apartment home community. Very understanding and willing to hear your concerns. But more importantly, they want you to feel comfortable and enjoy your time living here. Therefore, I have updated my review. *Kudos to Trish and Aaron for displaying professionalism, empathy, and care!* I work within 1mile from the Cortland Legacy & wanted to be closer to work & have a first floor apartment. I truly feel the Model apartment (style: A2) lighting is deceiving. The model apartment gave me the impression that there is more than plenty of lighting in the apartment to give it a vibrant & bright feel with the dark cabinetry included in the kitchen & bathroom. However keep in mind, depending on which direction your living room and bedroom windows face, sunlight may impact the amount of light in your apartment (understandable). A2 Bathroom The Cortland Legacy Bathroom light fixtures use old style CFL type bulb that unfortunately, I can't swap out for a brighter/more efficient bulb.To be able to see what I'm doing while taking a shower I bought a clear plastic shower curtain. **Management has addressed this issue with me and set appropriate expectations on their plans hopefully in the very near future for improvements that will most likely satisfy my concerns.** Bathroom Pros: *Ample cabinet/storage room under sink and built-in "linen closet" Bathroom Cons *Poor lighting from dated vanity light fixture *No lighting above shower/tub *Shower/Tub lever that slows water to flow into the tub only or from the shower head does not function correctly and allows about 20-30% of the water to still come out the faucet instead of the shower head. *Resolved* *Toilet was set at an angle facing the wall. So when I sit on the toilet fixture, I am pointed at an awkward angle at the wall that has the toilet paper roll dispenser. **Management has acknowledged this issue and offered a satisfactory solution.** My opinion: Bathroom needs improved lighting. Possibly a 3 (or 6) LED bulb vanity light fixture over the bathroom sink will do the trick. A2 Kitchen The first day I moved in, I noticed the full single sink which is great for washing pots, pans and large dishware. However, the drain stopper was in the drain so I removed it and washed my hands to start my move-in. Within seconds I hear the water running into the cabinet under the sink. Low and behold, the old waste disposal was leaking. The water pooled so much and so quickly that it immediately warped the under-sink cabinet floor. They had to replace the whole garbage disposal unit, but didn't repair the kitchen cabinet wood. * Management has addressed this issue. Thank you! I noticed a sewage-like, foul odor immediately upon entering the apartment which starts with the kitchen. I submitted a work order thinking there was a broken water or sewage line but they said it was from the washing machine or hot water tank drain line. They poured some "solution" down the drain to resolve the issue. However, the smell still appears every now and then and I pour a cup of bleach monthly to eliminate it. * The staff is working on a resolution to this problem. Thank you! The old track-style light fixture above the kitchen is dated and is loose. One one side of it is secured to the ceiling and the other side is screwed into nothing as there is a hole in the ceiling where the other screw would secure itself. A2 Bedroom No overall issues here; however, the bedroom in the A2 is uniquely small. I have a king size bed that barely fits in the room. I measured and knew it would barely fit but Queen size or smaller is best for the A2 A2 Bedroom Closet The double French style doors are annoying because of the small apartment size. However, I will say the closet size (interior of the walk-in closet)is nice. A2 Living Room It's narrow like a rectangle, super large TV's (70"+) will not provide viewing pleasure as it will be too close to our face. I recommend a 50"-65" as the maximum size TV for the living room and mounting it to the wall to set it farther away from your eyes. read more

I have been a new resident leasing at Cortland Legacy since July 12,2023 and since day-1 I have been informing them about enormous amount of Roaches in the apartment. Upon complaints, multiple times pest control has visited and there was no use with the treatment that they have provided. It was very clear that the neighboring apartment is responsible for roaches but however the leasing office or the management couldn't allow me to vacate without the 30 day notice period. I just relocated from Milwaukee and believing Cortland a wonderful community is my mistake. The entire experience was horrible and there is absolute zero consideration for their mistake. I already paid for 20 days for the month of July and despite of having this problem they still want me to pay for 30 more days as a notice. 45day Guarantee notice is something I understand for a person/family to decide if it suits his needs or not but in this case how a human being would like to start his journey when he sees lot of roaches from day-1. Isn't the management that needs to consider at the very minimum? I wouldn't recommend anyone to consider Cortland when there is no value to the tenants when they are not responsible for mistakes. I'm a victim here and still charging me for 30 more days is not correct. read more

Cortland Legacy is a great place to live and that is thanks to the people running it. The property itself is very safe with gated access and a parking ramp for my car. It also has all the amenities I could really want, including the fact that it is right across the street from some great restaurants. The people in the office have been very kind and responsive and are eager to make sure I am happy with my move here and have peace of mind. read more

Since my lease is almost up and I expect to be moving soon, I wanted to take the time to speak on my experience here at Cortland Legacy in hopes that it will help someone else in there decision making. I moved into Cortland Legacy December 2021 and overall it was a great decision. I don't feel I am difficult to "work with" but I do value good customer service especially when it's regarding my place of residence. I can honestly say that my experience has been a good one and that is predominantly because of one person, the manager Sierra Snow. Sure the complex is decent and I really have had no major issues or complaints regarding appliances or work orders. Even still, what has been the most valuable experience to me was how helpful and professional Sierra has been to myself and others and if it wasn't for her I probably would have had a different experience/review. The property is clean for the most part, there is always space to park, and I can honestly say I feel safe living here. Residents look after their pets and cleanup after them too. There are no nosey children playing in the halls or making loud noises, for the most part it is very quiet despite the construction that is going on. There is a two story gym that was nice enough for me to cancel my membership and it's never too busy or too crowed when I go. Management puts together small events to meet your neighbors and have a snack or a drink, it's obvious they are trying to make it a positive environment for everyone and the few times I've had to reach out to management have all been good experience as I mentioned because of Sierra Snow and her kindness. Overall I would live here again and I would recommend it to a loved one. I am only moving because I am leaving the state and can't take Sierra with me lol but I honestly would move anywhere based on Sierra's name being mentioned. She REALLY is great at what she does and she takes her job very seriously. I can tell she's a great person in real life and I truly think highly of her because of my experience. I hope this message finds her well because she deserves all praises and recognition so hopefully this will make her smile knowing "you are appreciated". As far as Cortland Legacy, I want this corporation to understand how valuable Sierra is to your organization. I won't be negative and mention any other names, because Sierra always went above and beyond to makeup for any discrepancies (all is forgotten). Being a single young woman living in the city alone, my parents thank you for looking after me the way they would want someone to look after their baby girl.
