The staff is hit or miss, you'll either get someone who is friendly and helpful or a complete snob. You'd have to order online or search every display table at our local retail outlets, and then check to be sure those are really Long Island locals, attractive to birds, nourishing for pollinators and hardy enough to grow in our mostly sandy or loamy soil. Native plants don't need fertilizers or even much water after they've settled into the right place, so you're not wasting money or resources. Wittendales has clearly labelled "LI Local" pots with blue and yellow stickers (think Swedish flag colors), along with posters, signs, and a binder with plant care tips. If you need help coordinating plants that play well together , I'm told their displays of color coordinated "companion plantings " will change as the growing season progresses. You can walk across the fields, picking at your perusal without really bumping into anyone. Pumpkins will run 79c per pound but no entry fee required! There's also a 2 food stands, a store selling gourds and decorations, hay rides and corn mazes. Well worth a visit if you're looking for a more lowkey experience amongst the pumpkin hype!

This is the farm that used to do the "all you can carry" but things have obviously changed in 2020 and dogs are also no longer allowed. Now that we're all upset; we know why it's a 3 star review. The plot is huge and goes on forever. Even through covid; family's flocked to the farm to pick up their pumpkins & hay stacks. We walked through with masks even outside and at a 6ft distance. The disappointment this year was the crop. It took forever (even though we hit the farm first week of October) to find a pumpkin that wasn't already rotting. Something is either in the water; like they drowned or animals ate them or too much hand sanitizer! I have no idea but as we turned them over they had holes & dings, cuts and sad spots all over. We accumulated a bunch of pumpkins all different colors which was nice that they have an assortment of gourds and textures. Damaged or not we picked what we could. Some rotted within a week from too much damage but the pics were fun to take and my mom actually enjoyed trying to find one that wasn't gashed. Lol. The little things in life actually just made me feed back that 4th star.

Mid season, the familiar faces were gone and so did the great service and produce. My gripe is with their cases of tomatoes. For years we were able to adjust boxes (meaning swap out bad tomatoes) or "top off" the case. This year however, there was a $5 upcharge (anytime they felt like charging it, depending on who was working that day) which is fine because I get it, prices change but be consistent. Also the case is "as is" which means I now have to wonder how many rotten tomatoes I'm gifted with. Only to be told quite rudely "if you don't like it, don't buy it" Where are the sisters who ran this farm exceptionally?? So disappointing. Do yourself a favor and drive a bit up in either direction to Latham's or Farmer Joe on Albertson.

More dogs' stuff than cats, but I found things for my cats and the cat lady, me! The owners, Barbara and Ron, are such a warm couple. I interacted with Anthony, who helped me pick out some cat-like items for myself and my cats. Cats' stuff are located upstairs. I like this place. I had a chance to meet some guests who happened to be there and spoke with them. The owners have a cute, energetic dog that greets people at the entrance too. This place is so inviting. I would come back if I'm in the area. Of course, I got something for myself and my cats! The great store is owned by great people.
