Apparently I have toured almost every restaurant and bar in Pomona while it was either being built, or have unusually extensive knowledge of it's hobo occupants before it was purchased. Before Metro Ale House and it's recent renovation, this place sat rotting from a fire sometime in late 2010. It was boarded up for a while, went through a major overhaul in 2011, had a weird soft-opening in 2012 (which felt more like a break-in/college rager) and then closed up again immediately afterwards. It wasn't till I saw construction of the side stairs and iron work around the building that it felt like the new owners actually meant business... or maybe knew how to spend money wisely? Anyhow, my boyfriend and I decided to descend into the tavern downstairs and give Metro a critical try. We've been duped with newly opened Pomona restaurants before (i.e. Rawken Sushi, O'Donovans) that start out strong: great food, atmosphere, and then a couple months later they're making dishes similar to what your drunk buddy found with leftovers in a fridge. Decor suddenly goes awry because they think the more crap you put on walls the more "festive" a place looks (Do hoarders have festive homes?) and bar fights roll in when homies start confusing their drunken stupidity with being trained in MMA. I am crossing my fingers so HARD that Metro will rise above this, because my first experience there was so positive. I had a couple glasses of cider-- nothing too crazy, but their pulled pork sandwich was super delicious. Aside from the amazing bbq sauce, the pork had a crisp finish like charbroiled beef tips and was not soggy at all. It also had a fried onion ring in it which gave it the perfect crunchy bite. I think what also helped was being able to chat with Chris the bartender for a while and hear him out on his journey in restaurant management, along with the other staff who literally left their cushy corporate restaurant jobs to be a part of Metro. Long story short-- there's a lot of heart going into this place and it's success relies on locals and patrons spreading the word. We can help shape or break a place, so leave your problems south of Holt and bring an open mind and empty stomach to Metro. If you leave disappointed it's because you didn't drink enough. read more

First time here and I really enjoyed myself. I have the fish and chips and have to say they were pretty good. Not at all greasy. The fries were really good. Malt vinegar should be available but apparently was not. Friends had the pastrami and turkey sandwiches. Both said they enjoyed their food. Took a little longer than I would have liked. I held my wedding reception in the grand ball room on the top floor. It excellent venue and the service was awesome. It was a very limited conversation with the manager, I gave her my vision and she made sure it happened. All during the night the staff kept checking on us and helping with all our needs. Even though it was practically dead when I got here it took the waiter 10 minutes to notice and seat us. My waiters name was Angel and he was completely rude from start to finish. He took forever just to take our drink order then ignored is completely for over 20 minutes. We finally ordered and he ignored us again until the food was ready. I attempted to get his attention multiple times and he pretended not to notice. Then he got our order wrong. He didn't bring napkins or utensils and when I asked for them he got an attitude. Myself and a group of first year students from WesternU came here today during a short break to check it out, and boy was it a great decision! I'll start with the price, we came during happy hour, which starts at 3pm and beer was only $3!!! (I think some are $5). After about 30 min, the owner, Jason, personally came to our table to welcome us and tell us all about the bar and how it has 4 stories, which I would never have known! He also provided us with some delicious plates of chicken alfredo, grilled chicken w/ rice and vegetables, and Mac and cheese which he said would all be on the house!! The food was delicious, and it was such a nice welcome to have during our first week being in Pomona and starting school! I think I can speak for my entire group and say we will all definitely be back, and whenever we need that study break this will be the spot!! read more

Food is good but what is really nice is their large selection of beers. Located in the now hip part of Pomona, the bar has a dive bar vibe but without the bad food. I had the chicken pesto focaccia sandwich sans the red onion with a side salad for ten bucks. The pesto chicken was tasty and the salad was decent but the best part was my 805 which was a bit pricey at 8 bucks. Metro Ale House is a casual restaurant, bar, and event venue Downtown Pomona. The food, appetizers, and drinks are consistently well prepared and fresh. The servers are friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. I was with a large group yesterday afternoon, and they served us quickly; the food was great! The pretzel appetizer and Pomona fries are favorites, but all the appetizers are delicious. I was totally disappointed with this place today. This has been a regular spot for my husband and I on Tuesday for the past two months. Today I took some friends so they can try the delicious tacos I have been talking about. First they bought out waters and we all agreed the water had a dirty taste. Second the tacos that I normally love were dry with no flavor. I ordered the al pastor and chicken, my friend order beef tacos and a soup. Everything was bad, I told the waitress and she said the meat was most likely dry because they were out of the marinade they normally use. This is unexceptable, how can you serve food to a lower standard. They only thing that made this meal ok was the fact we used a Groupon and all three of us ate for $15. Very disappointing read more
