I LOVE Cosmonaut. I've been going here for more than ten years (back when it was Satellite) and have never been disappointed by the espresso or the vibe. Cosmonaut is TINY. So small that you can't help but interact with the other customers and whoever is behind the counter. There's no hiding in such an intimate space. There are only three tiny tables inside and a few more out on the wood patio. The vibe is punk rock with very high coffee standards and it looks like they make their own syrups. This place def brews to the beat of its own drum. The owner clearly isn't the kind of guy who goes to coffee conferences and then decretes his space to follow the hottest trends (eg Instagrammable walls and neon signs about love and coffee) and that's why I love it SO MUCH. It closes early though so you've got to drop in before 2, but if you find yourself strolling around Wright Park on a beautiful (or even rainy) morning you've got to stop in. It may not be for everyone but IYKYK.

The coffee was really good. They actually brew coffee from Cat and Cloud in Santa Cruz which we visited several years ago. They do up-charge for non-dairy substitution. Given the current pricing of milk, it seems unnecessary. They have a little patio space open to enjoy your treats and dogs were welcome!

    Caramel Iced Latte

My iced caramel latte was superb! The barista was very kind, and the overall vibe of the shop was cute and quaint. The park across the street was absolutely beautiful as well and the perfect place to enjoy my latte. Definitely recommend!

Great coffee! Ambiance - I loved the decoration! Very cute and fun! Pastries, raw honey and some goods for sale :) loved them! Loved talking to experienced barista:) Very positive experience. Will come back again!!

I'm not a coffee person, but hearing this spot had a framed picture of Valentina Tereshkova (first woman in space), I had to stop in. This place was SO cool and a nostalgic trip to early Russian cosmonaut robot toys. Jon (ironically for a coffee shop employee, pronounced "yawn") and I talked about the memorabilia here and suggested other noncoffee options. I went with the eggnog drink for the season. A very cute spot and such a wonderful trip to Russian nostalgia.

Love this place. There's so much to look at in store, I loved the selection of products you could buy, the patio was well maintained and the barista was so nice!

Dark brown sugar latte with fat free milk steamed with cinnamon.

This place is very kitschy, but has seriously good coffee. I went on a Sunday morning and it wasn't very busy. I love a flavored latte and this place has a lot of house made syrup options. Several alternative milks. I got a dark brown sugar latte with fat free milk. The barista recommended steaming the milk with some cinnamon, such a good suggestion! She even matched my latte art to my manicure lol. Small parking lot.

I really wanted to like this place but I was pretty disappointed. I enjoy the name and it's eclectic theme. The barista was very friendly. But I basically paid over $5 ($4 + tax + tip) for mildly flavored water. I don't drink coffee anymore and just wanted an earl grey tea to wake me up. I had grabbed my tea and drove away and when I took my first sip when I thought it had cooled down enough I was horrified to discover that the tea hadn't brewed long enough. I opened the lid and saw that the tea bag wasn't in there and the color of the tea was a very very VERY light brown. Either they didn't put enough tea leaves (if it was even loose leaf), or the water wasn't hot enough, or it wasn't steeped for long enough. But it's not that hard to brew tea... The barista would've been better off just leaving the tea bag in there. So disappointed.

A big quad latte, midmod lighting, and a whole mood.

First of all, wow love the vibe. Put that love right up front and back it up! coffee is great. That touch of Dark Chocolate is perfect in my big quad latte. Really love the arts and artifacts on display. A real "This is MY house" attitude which I admire and respect.

The service was friendly and the latte was delicious! They also have a small assortment of pastries that are better than average, in my opinion. There is a small patio outside that looks over Wright Park that is a little tight, but is pleasant!

Fun place, great coffee, and a super fun set up. My friend suggested this place since we would be visiting Tacoma. Great suggestion.

The drinks were all great. In addition to the drink flight, we ordered a chocolate vegan muffin and a Danish to snack on. The space is wonderful. I always appreciate when a coffee shop serves drinks in real glasses/mugs, which they do here. The service was fast and the employee I spoke to was very nice. My only complaints are the parking lot and that, like most coffee places, it's a little expensive. The parking lot is truly miserable to park in. Super tight and precarious, and my car is a pretty averaged size SUV. You're better off street parking on the busy road it's on and walking. There's seating inside, but not tons. Limited options on a Friday morning that I went. Other than these (admittedly small) complaints, this is a nice coffee shop and I'd definitely stop by again next time I'm in the area. Always nice to support a local place over the big chains.

It's more of a local watering hole where the neighborhood folks congregate for their morning coffee and pastries but if you get the time and don't mind the parking situation, this cafe is worth the trip! Small batches of delicious roasted coffees paired with some scrumptious bakery items to enjoy while you relax in their large but cozy space. The staff is super friendly, and you can sit and people watch or make yourself a temporary workspace. They are perfect for the whole group or just the two of you. When we walked in, I felt like I had been teleported to Ballard or Greenwood up in Seattle. At least that's the vibe that I felt when we were there. It doesn't quite fit the Tacoma aesthetic but that's just one more thing that sets them apart from other Tacoma coffee shops.
