Was here today for the first time. Very small spot so, you can overlook it while driving. It's a nice cozy small spot with good coffee and prices are very close to Starbucks for a 12-16oz Cappuccino, latte etc.. The inside is very neat with round tables and chairs for seating. It's a good spot for a introductory date or just to meetup for coffee and a conversation. It's near a nice park and a botanical conservatory. read more

Every time I go in there I get a new recommendation. From what beans to get to what style of coffee fits my current needs and every time I'm blown away. My initial review was removed erroneously so I'm reposting it. I walked into the shop about 8 minutes before the listed closing time on the door. The barista looked up at me startled- he said "Sorry, I forgot to lock the door. We are closed" I replied "But according to the door you still have several minutes before closing." Barista says "I decided to close early" This is my firsthand customer experience. It should never have happened. Businesses should, without fail, make every attempt to honor the hours posted on their doors. Anything less is terrible customer service. read more

Top shelf coffee shop. Probably not the place to bring all your school books for a marathon study sesh; they have a few tables inside and outside but it's pretty small. But definitely the place to grab a stellar coffee and have a chat with the barista. James is super friendly and remembered my wife and I when we went back on another of our date nights. Cosmonaut has become one of my favorites spots to stop for coffee. Everything is good here. The espresso is perfect. The coffee is perfect. The cold brew is really strong but it's delicious. Every time I've gone in the baristas have been extremely friendly. There isn't much seating, so it's not the best place to study or get work done... but the coffee is so good. read more

Debated on 3 stars but gave it 4 - read on for why: My boyfriend and I got a pour over and a teeny latte and a sticker = almost $20? I guess it's my fault, I should've checked the prices first. But for such a small latte and imo the pour over tasted like potato water... That just imo but if you know your coffee, don't listen to me - I think a coffee connoisseur might've thought differently, and my boyfriend drank the whole thing no problem. My latte was good, but nothing I'd go there specifically for, it was a little different than others, but not my favorite. The man that helped us was super cool - I wanted a dirty chai but he said the chai needs to be on it's own. And I needed more caffeine than that so he just said to get a latte. They had cool stuff out, business cards from locals etc. Some fancy lookin coffee for sale. The place feels like a tree house, parking can be hard to come by. I like the style, but this is really a stop for a coffee expert - not me who can get a huge crappy latte for cheap from anywhere and be just as happy. I debated going 3 stars because I didn't feel that my money was well spent, but I'll give it 4 because the service was friendly, he seems to know his coffee stuff, the style of the place was unique and there was no line. My husband, our kids, and myself have had coffee here many times. Mostly because it's near wright park (where our kids play), and because it is a Pokémon gym for the app Pokémon Go. The coffee was mediocre at best, and overpriced, but it was a convenient spot to play the game, and have a coffee. Today we parked at Cosmonaut Coffee to battle at the Pokémon gym (the battle lasts less than 4 minutes). We, along with some other Pokémon players were greeted with a knock on our window by bearded employee of Cosmonaut Coffee telling us we needed to leave the parking lot if we were playing Pokemon. We simply said "ok", and were willing to move, but he continued berating us with a very poor and unprofessional attitude. Had he took the time to ask us about the game, he would have realized we would have been there less than 4 minutes. Also, if he doesn't want people playing the game in his parking lot, then he should request to have the gym removed. I'm willing to bet, though, that if the gym is removed, they will lose a large portion of their business. Mostly because several people in the Pokémon community order coffee from there regularly. They lost our business for good. Had he had a nicer attitude, then perhaps this review would be different. read more

Do you like Hemp? How about goats? One of the only places in Tacoma you can enjoy both in some amazing STUMPTOWN coffee. This place is owned by a pretty down to earth owner who is in like 10 bands. When I lived in Portland I pretty much had Stumptown coffee every day. What a treat that they are available in Tacoma. The only downside is, it is in a pretty small location, it is always pretty busy in their. I work right down the road from here so I stop in a lot. The people their are great. It is fun to just go and sit down and talk to some of the other people, the conversations are great. They recently opened another location down on 6th ave which is pretty sweet. read more

This is the most overrated coffee shop in all of Tacoma. I was glared at by two hipster patrons on the deck of this fantastically cute coffee shop. I figured they were just the standard upscale coffeeshop fare and proceed on in to order a 16oz drip from the "barista" who was far more concerned with this Generation 4 iPhone than greeting me or even pretending to care about anything. No amount of hype could cover up for the fact that I was charged $3.00 for a cup of drip or the simple fact that it was hardly what I would call a "decent up of coffee." Sure it was better than Denny's or Starbucks but there are far better shops in the greater Tacoma area run by staff that tries to care about its regulars as well as newcomers. Seriously, their drip was bland and lacked flavor, and there is nothing special about their dairy products. They're the same cartons of Smith Brothers coffee that everyone else uses. Cute retro comic theme and cozy atmosphere. Tons of little tin robots and aliens. There are a few parking spaces in their lot, other than that, there is street parking nearby. They have a little patio which is nice, the inside is cute and rustic, but small. I've been here a few times now and have ordered different drinks each time. I've been pleased each time with said drinks and with the laid back, friendly baristas. I'm a little sad that I have never received latte art on any of my lattes or other drinks. I anxiously tip my cup expecting a pretty design to take a pic of, but nope. No pretty leaf for me. (I'm a child, yes.) I'll admit it. I'm the kind of girl who finds something she loves and then will. not. let. it. go. My favorite pair of shoes? I bought three pairs (and desperately repaired one with bookbinding glue). Cupcakes? I'll eat a dozen in one sitting. And coffee? Don't get me started on coffee... Suffice to say I don't consider it strange that even though I was staying up in Seattle I still managed to visit Satellite on at least three different occasions in one week. And I've blabbed about Satellite to every person I know who resides in Tacoma or has a chance to even drive through Tacoma. French pressed coffee and creamy smooth espresso has been par for the course on all my visits, and the iced toddy was so misty valley-tastic you could probably fool my Starbucks-loving sister into thinking that it's a new blueberry flavor option. The interior touches in this almost-too-tiny cafe make my day - from the signs to the coffee rack. Best of all about Satellite? It might be the baristas - friendly without being overbearing. My coworkers told me about this coffee place and how they make their own syrups. I decided to try it out! The little sign on the outside says they're known for their hemp milk lattes - always a bonus as I don't consume animals and their secretions. It's a super cute, small, yet cozy little coffee place! I was instantly greeted by the nice barista guy :) They offer soy and hemp milk! The barista let me taste some of the vanilla syrup (vegan friendly FYI) and it tastes amazing :D I also found OMG -- Flying Apron vegan & gluten free brownies and cookies! As has been my experience at almost every upscale coffee place in Tacoma (and Seattle), my latte was WEAK WEAK WEAK. Creamy, yes, but I could barely taste the coffee. Is this a cost-cutting measure or was I just weaned on too-strong lattes so that's what I developed a taste for? IMO, if I'm paying nearly 5 bucks for a 12-oz coffee bev, I damn well ought to be able to taste the coffee in it. They say good things come in small packages and this tiny spot next to Wright Park and situated above a tattoo parlor and salon is no exception. The coffee brewed from Stumptown is to die for with a staff that is knowledgable and take their beans seriously. The fact that no decaf is served proves they got beans the size of casaba melons! Anyways the space is small but both customers and staff have always been friendly, down to earth and up for good conversation. Thought seating is limited there is Wifi and plenty of outlets for laptops. Additionally there is a big window to people watch. Though the line may go through the door at times, even in the rain, the wait is worth it! read more

My first visit was positive, I was greeted by a knowledgeable, sweet lady, explained the type of coffee used, Stumptown, the chocolate used for a mocha is pure, no added sugar, vegan. I ordered my usual; mocha, large, soy, single shot, no whip. The drink was perfect, not too sweet and topped with a beautiful leaf design. It was a bit pricey, $5.68, worth the treat. I will be back. They use Stumptown Coffee and locally sourced organic milk Wifi - check Cool baristas with espresso chops - check Dropped by today to work, grab a drink and enjoy the rainy day. The barista working was a PERFECTIONIST - he actually re-pulled the shots for my drink 3x as the humidity levels had changed and he was playing with getting the perfect grind. You won't find that attention to detail at your local Sbux or Peets. The coffee was amazing, the locally made bagel I had was good, good conversation with the barista, overall a great experience. I'll be back tomorrow, and probably every other day that I'm in town. read more

My absolute favorite coffee shop in Tacoma and the best Americanos of all time. The baristas are more like artists taking a lot of pride in their coffee. If their pours (espresso) are too slow then they dump them out and start again. Point: Don't go rushing in here expecting to get out as fast as Starbucks because there is usually a line. They have great local desserts, snacks and serve and sell Stumptown coffee. So if you want to try a nice local, somewhat hipster coffee shop with fantastic coffee then this is the place to go. read more

I stopped by after a nightshift at one of the local hospitals and I was pleasantly surprised by the service and the quality of my latte. I happen to like hemp milk lattes but there aren't a lot of places that offer hemp milk - this place did! While I was waiting, the barista offered me samples of syrup flavors. They were all tasty and subtle, perfect for a cheeky latte. I'm definitely going to come back and try them. The espresso was pulled well and the hemp latte I purchased was smooth. I dropped in on the way up to Seattle and it was a warm day so I asked for the barista's recommendation. She gave me an iced coffee with a splash of milk and vanilla syrup, and it was a delicious, refreshing way to power up. I love Satellite Coffee! One of the reasons I live in the N. end of Tacoma is so that I can walk to Satellite Coffee. One of the best cups of coffee that I have ever had; and, I have had a lot of cups of coffee. The baristas take the time to make sure the grind and the timing of the shot is just right. This takes time so if you're in a rush to get your coffee fix I would recommend going someplace else.
