My recent visit to Smokey hill denver store was fair but not fresh At 1:15 pm The tortillas were pre-made cold & all the sauces & proteins appeared to have been in the steam table for hours. We stopped by here after a trip to the airport. We had not eaten at one in years. The staff greeted us and they were very friendly. The restaurant was brightly lit and open. The food was run-of-the-mill, albeit the flavors in the rice and guacamole saved the day - they were delicious. The chicken in my enchilada was over salted. I might eat here again, but I imagine the all the proteins are mediocre. The guacamole definitely saved the meal. I almost asked for a container to go. The restaurant was clean, music playing and several guests enjoying their meals when I entered. That was the best of my experience unfortunately. I ordered the enchiladas and was asked what meat. I stated steak. All I got was a couple of meat pieces out into two small tortillas and then quickly covered with enchilada sauce. I asked for cheese and got a small amount. When I saw that I asked for beans and rice and barely got any of those either. After it came out of the quick oven, I asked for more cheese and was greeted with a scowl and a tablespoon more. The food was barely warm and had no flavor. I grabbed the only bottle of tapatio and was disappointed again as it was almost empty. I used what I could to flavor it up. Not too shabby for a BYOBurrito place but I will say i was very impressed with the staff (very courteous) and the cleanliness of the restaurant (tables were cleared promptly). First time here so i played it safe with the traditional chicken (but I would like to try the raspberry chicken soon). I wasn't sure what to expect other than to feel my hangry face with lots of yummy pico. Something is sweet tho....I couldn't tell if it was the smothering sauce or the rice or the pico but something had a little sugary taste to it (very different indeed). The burrito was way huge so I couldn't eat it all (I know!) so yay for leftovers! Prices are average and the menu simple (so the usual standard non fru-fru) The young man working the register was very attentative to me (and this is fast food mind you) and the seating area. Nice quick spot to eat. There were tables that you can eat at and they had some closed off too for current safety measures that are in place. You have a choice of meat : chicken, carne asada, beef barbacoa, veggies. They had a few types of beans , cilantro rice , all the burrito/taco toppings as well different cheeses. I purchased a taco salad and a veggie burrito, they were both plentiful portions. They have Coke products but since I drink soda I am glad they had Horchata (rice cinnamon milk). I got the sweet pork burrito which i just cant recommend. I have not tried their other meats but they are incredibly stingy with the amount pork they put int the burrito. I was beyond excited that a Costa Vida was opening up closer to me than the one I had previously frequented on Lincoln Ave. After meeting up with a friend at a local brewery I was def feeling some chips, queso, and a smothered burrito (though I've also had the salads and baja bowls; they're all delish). ++ They cook/heat your tortillas on a rotating heated stone right there in front of you. ++ The sweet pork is BOMB! Plus, there's a variety of beans and salsas to both add and top your meal with. I personally enjoy the refried beans, because they have a little kick to 'em. ++ Chips and queso! So good. Plus they offer a small size for those solo diners out there. ++ Staff is super friendly and didn't even bat an eye at me running in during the last 15 minutes they were open! Oops! Shocked at the 3 star reviews! This place is an absolute gem and is by far better than chipotle or qudoba. I would encourage anyone to try it, particularly the shredded beef tacos platter. My kids brought home Costa Vida tonight, and they couldn't finish after a few bites. The meat had chewy/crispy texture that is not normal at all. The portion of pork measured to less than 1/4 c., queso had an off flavor and the sour cream was watery and warm. I sincerely hope they don't get sick!!! We have eaten here MANY times, and never had this happen before, to be sure. The server literally put meat in the center of the dish, and surrounded it with chips. It was not always a 5 star! I have eaten at Costa Vida for a long time 15 years I think. This location when it opened had struggles, I personally did not think the food tasted the same as other Costa Vida locations. Well fast forward to the present. I usually eat here 2 to 4 times a week. The food is always good now, portions are perfect and the staff is friendly. You should all come and try it. Where some restaurants that serve Mexican food in the nearby area are falling down hill when it comes to service and food quality. I have to say Costa Vida off of Smoky Hill across from Southlands has kept service and food quality where it needs to be. read more

The medium sauce tasted more like a mild. I asked for extra hot sauce and they charge $2.15 for 2 tiny containers. If you like Chipotle but want an alternative that's not terrible like Qdoba, then give this place a try. I just get whatever the days special is and call it good. I love the sweet pork and Raspberry Chipotle Chicken. Place is big and never too busy. They have a rewards app and have special deals quite often. Is the food pretty good? Yeah! However, I felt the pricing for a SMALL steak salad was pretty high at almost 9 bucks after tax. Plus, I really don't like the fact they charge extra for literally everything! I even asked for just a little bit more ranch dressing and they said they have to charge me for it! I'm like seriously?! I've eaten here a few times. The food is decent, and maybe it's just me, but it doesn't taste like anything. Flavorless. I don't know if they need to use more sauce or what. I usually get some sort of chicken dish (enchiladas or burrito) with tomatillo sauce and it always tastes like nothing. PLEASE - site manager, corporate owners and franchise managers read this. I had a terrible experience here... ZERO STARS if I could!! The short of it is that the employees just don't care. Visited location with wife, ordered a chicken salad and a steak burrito. It was roughly 7 pm and the place was not busy. The Salad was started first- the stuff was sloppily plopped into the bowl and in only VERY small plops of stuff ( literally just a few pieces of meat). As it was almost completed my wife whispers to me "that looks gross, I don't really want it". I told the prepper "never mind on the salad, it doesn't look good". They just starred at me confused, and I again said " no thank you it does not look good" And she just stopped and set it behind her.... at that point I was thinking that I would just share my burrito, so I started watching a little closer to see what was bothering my wife as. my burrito was assembled 1 the employees were all dirty 2 it was sloppily and cheaply/skimpily being assembled ( and I don't like to ask "can you put the proper amount of steak in there?") 3 The restaurant was a mess - dirty tables 4 the ingredients in the chafers and holding bins were decidedly not fresh and all around them was mixed droppings falling into incorrect bins. 5 there was no care, consideration, eye contact, or happiness with ANY of the employees. 6 there was no attempt to correct errors -I would have expected a little more care -ESPECIALLY as the salad (just a moment before) had been rejected. As my burrito was completed I noticed that my wife was looking dubiously at it, but I still paid for it and our two drinks. We started walking to a table with the burrito and drinks, and I was looking at my plate and I realized that I too was thinking that this was going t to be "gross" (to use my wife's words). I pivoted on my feet , and walked it back to the cashier and handed it back to him (untouched) and whispered to him, this does not look appetizing and I don't want it" and held it out for him to take. He looked at me like I was an "ass", ( and not as a dissatisfied customers hat needed help) and took it from my hand. I paused for about 5 seconds to see what his actions would be... and it was simply to turn away from me and look down, no words spoken. We left the restaurant I had paid some odd 14 ? Bucks on my charge card and simply walked off with a couple of expensive sodas. I have eaten at costa Vida before (not this location) and it has been "acceptable". In the past, But this type of service and horribly prepared food has now put all of Costa Vida on the NO WAY EVER list Here is What should have happened..... (along with better local management, training and cleanliness. and franchise oversight.) The INSTANT the salad was being rejected by us ANY (and every) employee (especially the line manager) should have immediately jumped in and asked what was wrong and said "how can I make it right for you", a smile and eye contact would have had immediate benefit. And also, when I returned my burrito to the cashier -in that very instant without hesitation the very same thing should have been said - and or then also an apology and and an immediate offer to fully refund my purchase NONE of those things happened!!! Therefor I basically feel like I was "robbed" -and that will not be forgiven... We drove across the street to The "On The Border" Mexican restaurant - shared the fajitas, watched baseball on the big screen, had a few rounds of margaritas. 5 star food, 5 star service. Alcohol aside, the tab for a HUGE plate of fajitas to share was about the same as both of our sad sack entries would have been at Costa-Crapy - There is seriously no value here other than to watch the cool tortilla smashy thing do its job - My advice- Qdoba and Chiplote are both better at a consistent and equitable process and food assembly, go there instead - the value is so much better. Or "take a load off" and hit a real Mexican restaurant .... Just don't eat at costa-crappy - remember they still owe me 14 bucks!!! read more

I would have rated it a 5 but they were out of rice! How can a Mexican place be out if this staple food? All the meals I ordered came with rice, but nothing was offered on its place, like extra beans or something. That was disappointing. They appeared to be fully staffed.
