Vince & Tony here are two of the laziest Costco employees I have ever experienced in my history at Costco. I came to get gas. They were two grown perfectly capable men not capable of emptying a trash can alone. One was holding a trash bag and they in tandem emptying trash cans. I turn around to pump gas. All of a sudden I hear 2 grown men screaming "Mam" in a chorus as if they were one unit. I didn't turn because the gas station was full of people and they were screaming from ten feet away. Finally I turned and they screamed at me "could you move" but the car had already driven by. Then they kept loudly coming by my pump and saying "have a nice day" in voices and tones that basically meant anything but. Upsetting my dog. I think this is pretty typical behavior for them. And I would not employ them at any Costco or anywhere they interact with a customer. read more

While vacationing in the San Diego area, we've tried to get gas at Costco. It's the best price point plus added points to our Executive Business card for dollars back. A win/win for us. There's an attendant there to oversee the process moves smoothly. They also help people who have problems using the pump system. They also help with handicap drivers as well. I've been here while there's a line for gas. However, it normally runs pretty smoothly. The wait isn't terrible. UNLESS, you're behind a landscaping truck with trailer. Then it's a painful wait watching them fill up about ten large gas cans and their truck!! YIKES!!! That didn't happen to us. It was the lane next to us! ;) Overall, always my best option for gas. If you are lucky enough to have a Costco membership in California, you can get gas that could be $0.50-1.25 cheaper than other nearby gas stations.... Today at $4.69/gallon regular this was the best deal in the Carlsbad / Encinitas area. The lines for gasoline are long, so just be ready to be patient. The good thing is that each "island" has 3 pumps on the right and 3 on the left, so that helps move things quicker. Of all the major credit cards, they only take VISA. read more

Really what can I say that hasn't already been said. Costco gas is where it's at. And if you really want to increase your savings at the pump, be sure you're using a rewards credit card to score all those extra miles, points, or straight up cash back. Using the Costco credit card you'll net 4% cash back on gas to a point. This Costco gas station is so convenient as it's located right off the 5 freeway at Palomar Airport Rd. Current regular unleaded price at the time of this review is $3.89 a gallon. I believe premium was $4.19 a gallon. If you come early, they open at 5:30am, you should never have to wait. On those days that I'm able to make it here early, I'm literally able to fill up in 3 minutes and be on my way. FORGOT YOUR COSTCO CARD?? Don't fret, Bobby has got your back. They're one of the attendants that always has a great attitude and can often be seen chatting it up with the regulars. I didn't think it was possible to Yelp a gas station, but here we are. Filling up at any Costco is entertaining. You are bound to see someone cut another car off, honking, scratch their paint trying to get out, have issues parallel parking into the middle spot, interesting driver outfits, and so much more. I saw a woman pull out an ax at a Costco gas line. It was WILD. If you hate lines then show up later in the day after 7 or early in the morning. You will be able to drive right up. Some people are afraid to fill up on the opposite side of your gas tank. Don't be! They have long hoses that you can yank around. Just make sure you pull your car in close enough so other cars can get around you. Also, don't text or have a phone call while pumping gas. A. This is a Costco gas line and it needs to keep moving. No dilly dallying! B. The static electricity that can build between exiting your car and holding your cell is a recipe for potential disaster. Touch your car before touching the pump. I might have just saved a life with this review. Bonus life saving tip, when you go to the Costco food court and get your cheap hot dog, make sure to chew your dog. The pumps have long hoses that means you can fuel from each side and passageways that allow you to hop to an open pump. So why only 3 Stars? The access to getting to the station is also the main route to the warehouse so its typically back up quite a bit. The prices here probably the highest in the county, compared to any other Costco, the design of the parking to the entrance of the gas station also super tricky, most cars will enter from the left but it will lead you the exit instead you need to move the the far right against the regular Costco traffic to get into the main entrance. For the price and the location, I would only stop here if any other Costco was not on my route, and unless this is a Sunday evening after the warehouse closed. read more

We were in the area coming back from San Diego and stopped in Carlsbad for lunch, so decided to check-out the nearby Costco. One look at the full parking lot on a Friday afternoon changed our minds to go into Costco, but decided to get gas before getting back on I-5. There is no signage for gas prices visible, so you don't know the price per gallon until you actually get to the pump. But the trust is that Costco will have prices 5-10% cheaper than the competition, and that held to be true. I really like the set-up on this one. There are a total of 5 islands, with the 4 far left ones having 3 pumps each, and the 1 far right one having 2 pumps, and each pump having 2 nozzels (no diesel here): so that's a total of 28 nozzels ((4*3)+(1*2))*2 going at once. Unlike other Costcos that have 3 pumps on the island, there is enough space between the pumps so a driver doesn't have to parallel park into a middle slot (you can slide in going forward). Each island had two lines (one on each side), with a shared middle if you have to drive around a car still filling up. So that would imply that the far right island has the worst through-put (since it only has 2 pumps)...however, there is only one queue for that pump (there isn't enough space for two queues), so it's actually the queue line that has the most nozzels (4) at the end. Food/Gas for thought... Saw the typical song and dance at many of the pumps, folks taking their sweet ole time once they are at the pump: "I had to wait a while, so you folks behind will wait on me too". So bring your patience, and things will be fine. And this is one clear area where the tap'n'go that is prevalent with the new credit cards, really makes a huge difference in time. We recently got the Costco Visa, that also serves as your membership card. All you have to do is Tap at the pump, and it automatically verifies your membership and assumes that you will use that card to pay (as you know, Costco only accepts Visa). And since that card gives 4% cashback on all gas purchases, it's a win-win all the way around. read more

It did the same today and I finally looked for someone and got him. He was sooooo great and took the time to not only 1, pump my gas for me but 2, stand there and try till he figured it out. Writing this while I'm waiting for my turn. That's the reason why I took away 1 star because there's always a line. However, there are 8 aisles and 16 pumps so the lines move at a reasonable speed, unless you have a big SUV or a hummer in front of you then you'll have plenty of time to finish this review and have a few photos taken too. The prices are definitely the cheapest around the area, especially compared to the overpriced gas in the chevron next door. This is the only reason why people still come here albeit the long wait. I appreciate the attendants keeping things moving and making sure everything is smooth. It is good to know that if you get stuck for another reason, there's a staff around to help you. You will need your Costco membership to pump gas here as they require you to swipe your membership card, and so far they still only take AMEX as a form of payment. The middle section has 3 pumps per lane. I have never been to a Costco with 3 pumps in a lane. You have to make sure you pay attention or else you will hold up the line! Who socializes in a Costco gas line? Today there was a ridiculous lady who was honked at because she took too long driving to the pump after a car pulled away. Someone had to wake her up. She started socializing with the driver in back of her. She obviously needs to get a life. There were car lines pass the gas station entrance and this lady just didn't get it. Focus on pumping and get the hell out of there. Even the Colorado license plate driver who obviously needed someone to talk to was in a chatty mood. Two people starving for companionship. I used to scoff at the people who lined up here in order to save 7 cents a gallon over the already-cheap Arco just down Palomar Airport Road. Then I lined up. And now I'm sold. And since I'm at Costco already for something, I've made filling up part of the ritual. Plus, the Costco-branded VISA card rebates 4% of gas purchases, which saves me $3+ per fill-up. That's enough for *two* hot dog meals at the Costco Food Court, big spender. Those lines move very quickly, thanks in part to the attendants on duty who direct people to open spots on the 3-pump islands. The hoses are extra long; I've had no trouble reaching the opposite side of my car & truck. Yes, that's right, you rebel, you can completely disregard that little arrow by your fuel gauge that points you to the side of the gas cap.
