Who socializes in a Costco gas line? Today there was a ridiculous lady who was honked at because she took too long driving to the pump after a car pulled away. Someone had to wake her up. She started socializing with the driver in back of her. She obviously needs to get a life. There were car lines pass the gas station entrance and this lady just didn't get it. Focus on pumping and get the hell out of there. Even the Colorado license plate driver who obviously needed someone to talk to was in a chatty mood. Two people starving for companionship. This Costco gas station might want to consider opening up a coffee shop so people can socialize before and after pumping gas. Today I learned...(Costco gas edition) -You can pull into any lane because the hoses are long enough to reach the other side of your car -Getting gas midweek at night is the only sane time to do it I already knew: -You don't need to be a member to buy gas, just pay a member to buy you a Costco gift card and use that to pay for your gas -Gas at Costco is priced better than other stations -Waiting in line to buy gas wastes gas and time and I refuse to wait in those crazy lines! read more

Cheap gas & 4% cash back with the new Costco Citi Visa. That's the draw here. Or at any Costco Gas location. But, on top of that, what made this Costco Gas 5 stars for me was a mysteriously short wait to fuel up on a Sunday & the convenience of being so near the freeway. Gas stations right off the freeway are typically highway robbery (ha! see what I did there?). & there was indeed another gas station barely around the corner from here charging about 60 cents more per gallon. I usually don't like filling gas at Costco, I'd rather go to Sams club, but since this location is near where we are staying we've been coming here. So far it's the best Costco filling station I've ever been to, I almost wished we lived nearby. Once we came mid morning and it looked like any old Costco gas station, but line moved fast and hoses extend, so you can go to any pump. Next two times we came at night and you could just drive up to any pump. That is something I've never experienced with Costco. There are 3 pumps per line! read more

The cheapest gas you'll get from Costco comes from the all beef hot dogs at the snack bar. This station though is pretty decently priced for fuel. It's about 7-10 cents less than anything else in the area, and that may or may not be worth waiting for the 6 or 7 cars in front of you. It is clean and the attendants seem to keep the cars coming through at a decent pace, but damn...sometimes it's just too long for me to wait in. If you're here really early or late it's a no brainer, but come at a peak hour and I'd just head up to the next station and pay a couple extra bucks. read more

I live in San Diego, but commute up to Carlsbad. I used to hunt for the cheapest gas prices and now I just go to this Costco. This gas station is one of my regular stops. I love that they're open early and have the indicator when there are pumps available. Get an added perk by getting a Costco Credit card to get some extra cash back. Unless it's worth 20 minutes of frustration to save $0.75, then there is no reason to come here. IF you can even get gas. Twice I have been here. Twice I have waited in line for about 20 minutes, with DB's in beamers literally running me off the road to get in front of me in line or just bypassing the line all together and pulling ahead of everyone the second a stall opens up. Twice I left with an empty tank because the card reader would not read my Costco card - which works just fine everywhere else - and directs me to see some mysterious attendant who does not seem to exist. If they do exist, they are hard to find, and I was not able to locate them before someone in line whose time is clearly more important than mine began honking at me to hurry up. I left frustrated, feeling abused and robbed of 20 minutes without anything to show for it. Gas at Chevron up the street on Melrose is only $0.05 more. Their card readers work, there ARE attendants on staff, and there is never a wait. I won't be coming here again. Kicking myself for even giving it a second chance. read more

This is the best place in town to purchase gasoline. You will save almost a dollar per gallon when compared to nearby gas stations. The lines do get long so you should come right when they open or closer to when they are closing. Don't go all the way to the right lanes because they only have 2 pumps versus 3 pumps at the other lines. Remember Costco made the most strategic decision and installed long hoses at each pump to increase efficiencies so it doesn't matter what side your fuel tank cap is on. The best time is to go within 2 hours when they open and 2 hours before close. This is a rule for all Costco Gas Stations. Location is excellent as it's right off the I-5. It's my go to out of town and when I am back in town heading back to Del Mar. read more

Costco gas is always the least expensive in town and since their update which installed a 3rd pump at most of the island the line is much shorter as a result of more people being able to simultaneously pump gas. Now I only which people would not hesitate to use the middle pump; I suspect most of the people electing not to use the middle pump when it becomes available cannot parallel park. read more

Cheapest gas around town (best quality for the buck). Avoid long lines and get here on a weekday around 6:30am. I know that sounds extremely early but if you'll get the worm if you wake up. ;) You'll wait in line if you're here on a weekend or after 4pm on a weekday. Trust my advice and come early. Great gas stop for SD trips!! Easy in and out right off I-5. Watch out for the clueless clown drivers that are rampant around here though! As far as the gas, it's Costco gas. Nothing new or amazing other than the already-known great price for a decent product. Seems like a lot of retired people leisurely clogging up the place during the middle of the day on weekdays though, so be prepared for a bit of a crowd both at the gas pumps and inside the store. read more

Good price on gas in this area! I don't like the long lines and the credit card policy. I pulled up for gas knowing I had about $120 of credit left on my Amex card. I stuck my card in the machine and was declined. I slunk away in shame and without the precious gas. Turned out you can only get gas if you Amex card will take a $150 charge. Doh! read more

This was a great, close to freeway, location! Clean and not so busy when we were there. This is a smaller location right next to a Starbucks

The good news-- 1. This is Costco so you can expect good prices. 2. They have lots of filling points to ease their tremendously long lines. The bad news-- 1. Their filling machines are hit and miss in ability to your credit/debit card to allow payment. If you happen to pull into a machine that has this problem you find after waiting in their long lines you can't buy their gas anyway. You have to drive down the road to a better filling station to buy gas. This has happened to is more than once. Also to the people in the next filling lane. 2. They only post one overworked person to work their filling station. Good luck finding him when you're standing in front of a line of ten impatient other drivers trying to get the machine to read your credit/debit card. 3. They need to post some sort of sign asking drivers to please wait to pull out. Every single day---one impatient driver after another tries to wrangle out of their line to escape before the person in front is able to start their engine to leave. Being a Costco member definitely has its perks. Getting cash back at the end of every year is a bonus and their gas is unbeatable!

To all the people complaining about long lines (which is true) - go at off hours. Few times I tried after 7:00 PM (usually Costco Gas is open until 9:30 PM) or early in the morning (they are open at 6:00 AM). Like today at 8:00 AM - It was almost no lines (I waited maybe 2 minutes) and you don't need to stay in any line (with extra length hoses) just to stretch the hose on another side to fill it up. The prices are definitely better then at Shell or Chevron (and you are saving more then $0.08 per gallon). Pay with your Costco American Express credit card (but don't forget your Costco membership card to use it first) so you are still getting cash back rewards. read more

The prices are always more expensive than the Escondido location. The parking is sub par. The rat race around these business's gives me a headache. The line to get gas is stupid I spend more gas idling than if I woulda paid 10 cents more down the road. Also I respect my elders but old people shouldn't be allowed to pump at Costco. One of the cheapest places to get gas as long as your a Costco member. You need to swipe your card at the pump so if you can borrow a friends card for the day you can save a couple of dollars depending on the car you drive. Costco gas is usual about 20-30 cents cheaper per gallon then the local gas stations. But the Costco in Las Vegas when we went couple months back was the same if not more expensive then the local gas stations. If you come early in the morning when they open the lines are not too long. I love getting gas at Costco. Its inexpensive and its good gas. The Costco employees are there if you need them and to keep the line moving. Speaking of lines, that's a turnoff but I guess everyone else likes the prices too. The line moves pretty fast when I first got in line there were six cars but it's real memorial day weekend. There's a guy walk around the can help you if you need it. This gas station has three pumps on every line. Most customers only have two pumps. It is far enough away from the store that you do not get in the way and the lines don't get the way of the store.
