I love Costco. I have been a continuous member since 2009. If management reads this please please please do a better job with the check out process. There are people lined up through the store creating difficulty navigating the various aisles. Knowing the store well I zipped over to self checkout and was checked out quick. I felt bad for the people lined up back to the meat dept probably not knowing what they are lined up for. This is by far a 1st world problem and I'm kicking myself for even writing this review. This is a review on the Fruitport, Mi store. I was told today an item isnt in stock, even though they told me a few days ago it would be. Dont bother with the Costco app. It will tell you something is "low stock" but was informed that could mean out of stock and when an item is available, the app is not updated based on what the store. I always used to joke with older coworkers that I'd be a real adult once I got a Costco membership. Well I've had one for years now, and I'm still not a real adult. But I do really love this store! It can be kind of annoying to find a favorite product that only goes away never to be seen again (RIP, Sanders dark chocolate covered potato chips with sea salt), but that's also part of the fun of shopping at Costco, I guess. Costco membership is made up of two options: Executive and Gold Star. The Executive level is $120 per year and gets you a 2% annual reward (up to $1,000) on eligible Costco purchases. The Gold Star membership is $60 per year and just gets you access to the store both online and in the warehouse. Both levels come with two membership cards for you and someone else in your household. Fun fact, you don't need a membership to buy alcohol at Costco or to visit the food counter. You also get a discount on gas at their gas station with a membership. I've bought tires from their tire center, and you can even get deals on vacations like cruises, Disney, resorts, etc. with your Costco membership. We stock up on regular staples at Costco, like toilet paper, frozen items (shrimp and smoothie fruit are my go-tos), olive oil, raspberries, protein powder, dish soap, ground beef, chicken, canned items, etc. They also carry clothing, books, electronics, household items, plants, furniture... pretty much everything you can think of. It's always fun to see what new items they have even though I know I won't be buying them. They have a pharmacy as well as an optical department. I don't know if you can get any more one-stop shop than Costco! Even with a household of just two people, I still find items we can use before they go bad or store for future use. My favorite part about Costco might be the food counter. It's definitely not health food, but we treat ourselves to a Costco lunch every once in a while. The pizza slices are huge and so greasy and delicious, but I think my favorite is the hot dog combo: $1.50 for a huge hot dog and a pop. They have self check outs at this Costco now, which is really nice because I usually only get a few items at a time. Lines can be long but generally move quickly. They won't bag or box anything for you, but they do have some boxes if you want to corral your items after checking out. Be sure to keep your receipt handy, as you'll need to have it checked before leaving the store. read more

This may be a slightly different type of review as I'm sure most already know Costco's quality and great product offerings. This review will focus on an order of a oven/microwave combo and their customer service. When our wall oven/microwave stopped working, we began shopping for a replacement that preferably could drop right in the existing opening without any cabinet modifications. We shopped all over Grand Rapids as well and we were surprised to find Costco had the exact model we were looking for at a dramatically lower price. In addition, delivery and installation was included. I was a little nervous ordering this way but went ahead. I placed the order and in less than a week, the oven was delivered followed by the installation a day later. Unfortunately the oven was defective so I had the option of a refund, replacement or a repair. Repairing was definitely not an option for us especially on a brand new oven and I didn't want to begin shopping all over so we opted for a replacement. Amazingly the team at Costco worked some kind of magic because the new oven was delivered and installed five days later. Costco communicated with me many times updating me during the process (shipped from manufacturer, arrived at Costco warehouse, earliest possible delivery, earliest possible installation, etc.) Really, their communications were extraordinary and over the top from what I expected from such a large organization. The installers who are independent contractors who don't work directly for Costco were also amazed as they do installations for other stores. They said a replacement usually takes much longer. I've long been a huge Costco fan. This experience made me an even bigger one. read more

Roast beef sandwich ($10) I usually get something from the food court every time we go to Costco. New item? Hell yeah. Definitely pricey for Costco but I think it was worth the try. I really enjoyed the bread and the sauces they used. The sauces (don't remember what they were, a honey mustard and a vinaigrette maybe?) had great flavor and added a good touch of acidity that a lot of other sandwiches lack. Definitely better than other $10 sandwiches you can get. Yes this is a food review for a Costco. Speaking to the business at large, this place is excellent. Love COSTCO! Go for the gas (always the cheapest in town) and the hot dog (or sundae), and stay to shop for everything you need. The layout is always a little different even when it's your neighborhood store, but service is always great: people will happily go out of their way to help you out. I have my staples that I have to have and generally 50% of the rest of the stuff in my cart(s) is stuff I'd forgotten I needed until I saw it while walking down the aisle. I requested service for car battery replacement but was denied - installation is not a service they can provide, but they do help make sure you have the right one. read more

I don't know why I didn't join Costco sooner. The past two months of being a member have been awesome. I love the quality of food and items they have. Their golf balls are GREAT for a fraction of the price, and same with their cakes (we are using their cake for our wedding actually!!). Samples are on the weekend and people are nice. My first time the cashier was a little abrupt with me (because I didn't know what I was doing) but as soon as I said it was my first time, she was very gracious and told me how to do the process. The food court itself is AWESOME. We can eat a meal and be full (my fiancé and I) for like 8$. The pizza is delicious (though greasy) and you can get a drink and snacks for a super good deal. It's been our recent "date" spot when we want to go out for food...haha. Definitely would recommend!! read more

In general Costco is head and shoulders above all other big box supermarket-department store combinations. The prices are incomparable, the workers are just the right merger of competent and respectful. No scripted nonsense, they tend to speak English except the younger ones who suffer from pleonasm like the rest of their generation. I don't care about that when everyone knows what they are doing. This location is typical, the long lines are because the store is great and the wait isn't really long. They have more live check out cashiers than self check out, and the ratio is considerably better than any competition. You won't be disappointed, unless of course you're the sort of person who is always disappointed and this will become yet another in a long unending line of disappointments. read more

They check if the card is your and who card you are paying with. That is so stupid. They are getting the money from the sale any way. This review is specifically for the Coscto Tire Center. I'd give this zero stars if I could. Dropped my sons car off to get 4 new tires ($1300) and he picked it up later that day with 4 new tires and several errors on his dash. He immediately went back in to tell them about it so the Costco Tire Center hooked up their computer and cleared the errors and told him everything was fine. Errors immediately came back on so I took it to the dealership the next day and had to pay $680 to repair a sensor on the wheel. Filed a claim with Costco as the repair was tire related and happened while the car was in their care, and was denied. They claimed it was "normal wear and tear over 50k miles", and it was a "coincidence" that it broke while the tires were being replaced in their care. Go somewhere else, they will not take care of you if anything is wrong, and pray you never have to make a claim with them as this took over 6 weeks and at least 10+ messages to get a call back. read more

This is the better of the two Costco's in the area. The parking lot is easy to navigate and they have better inventory and more variety. I don't typically find some of the things I find here at the other Costco in Grandville. All in all, in a good location and I always come here for gas whenever I am near the airport. read more

First off let me say...THIS PLACE IS BUSY (especially on the weekend!) The lines for checking out where LONG. If you are one who likes samples, they are not short of stands offering those but good luck trying to get one, seems how there is typically a line for them, what I have noticed is that with free samples brings the customers with bad manners (pushing, cutting, etc). :( They have a wide selection of Organic options, which is nice. One thing I did notice is that identical items that are sold both at Costco & Sam's Club are normally (if not always) cheaper at Sam's! So it is good to shop around! Sam's Club basic membership is also cheaper. One thing I hate is why do I have to show my membership card when I enter the warehouse (I can't buy anything if I don't have a membership!). I have little kids that I am normally wrangling and its not the easiest to dig out my card just to show you that "yes, I have a membership card" (I wouldn't be coming here if I didn't!). The staff I experienced on this visit was great, the guy that I later found out was a manager at the check out lines that scanned my items to help move the lines faster was VERY nice & friendly. I can't WAIT til Costco actually starts accepting Visa (that is what I was told), next year!!! This will allow me to shop here more often! read more

This is only about the pharmacy at the 28th street location. After filling scripts at the Brighton mi location for years and getting excellent service I am very disappointed in the Grand Rapids location first script I picked up and after calling in and being told it would be ready I had to wait another 20 min. Apparently they forgot to process it correctly because a week later got a call saying I hadn't picked it up which I had. Went back today. Script was sent over at 1pm and I waited until 3:12 and of course it wasn't ready. Her excuse was that they took a half hour lunch at 1. Ok. It had still been 1.5 hours to get it done. It looks like after over 10 years of yawing Costco pharmacy I'm going to have to find another place to get scripts. So sad that one location can be so good (Brighton) and one so bad (Grand Rapids) Update. After sitting here over 30 min and watching at least 12 customers come up from the line NOT ONE script has been ready. Omg. read more

Costco strikes again. Phone customer service. I called 5x today asking about a particular product. Each time I was put on hold for a very long time. Each time I hung up bc of the ridiculous wait. At the 5th call I asked for a manager. I told him his ppl could at least have told me that the wait would be long or ask me to call back rather than ignore me. I was not happy. If they treat their customers this way I would just switch to Sam's Club. Their membership is cheaper. And if what I read was true that Costco pays their employees around $20/hr..... Then these people are getting overpaid for the lousy service they provide their customers. At $20/hr I expect a lot more from them. If you love wine, the selection and prices are more than competitive. Ask for Bill who knows every wine ever made. I also haunt the book counter where books are less expensive than Amazon. If you see something you really Iike, buy it now! They don't always restock the same items. I've gone back later for an item and it was sold out with no likelihood of reorder. The pharmacy is more than competitive with prices. Most folks go there to make a meal of the samples. read more

I came here with my local tour guide to buy some snacks. For visitors from Northern California, this location is best compared to the branch in San Jose layout-wise. Inventory-wise, where summer, beachy surfboards are displayed in California locations, here, there are snow toys and supplies to shovel snow and driveways. The prices are pretty much the same nationally, the only difference being the regional/state sales tax. With only two cashiers open when we were checking out, we ended up choosing the cashier that was the least organized. The person before us had items that were rung up double due to the cashier leaving their barcode sheet next to the scanner and caused a major delay in the checking out process. The line ended up backing up to the same degree of congestion as in California on a good day. When it was our turn, the cash register displayed some kind of foreign transaction fee. (Just because I'm Asian doesn't mean I'm a rich tourist from Taiwan.) Luckily, the cashier caught it and deleted it before our subtotal. Asking my local tour guide for the standards of this location, I have applied a numerical rating appropriate to this region, but it is solely for this experience.
