While I do like Costco's prices and products, they need to ease off shoving the executive membership down your throats at checkout. After saying "no, thank you" three times I started to get a little bit more short with the cashier, but she would not stop. I really hope that Costco goes the way that Sam's club has gone, with checking yourself out through the app. This experience has definitely made me want to wait until they do for me to come back. Managers, I know you have metrics you need to hit, but it shouldn't be at the expense of losing customers with bad experiences. read more

Costco. I pretty much have been a customer for over 30 years back in the day when it was PRICE CLUB, then PRICE COSTCO CLUB, and then COSTCO WHOLESALE, then finally, THE COSTCO! My life has depended on them for everything and even worked for them twice (LOS FELIZ & ALHAMBRA) YEAH BABY! Thank God, they have remained open during the Chinavirus and was one of the first businesses to mandate a face covering and even supply it at the entrance. Some people complained about it, but there they go again, saving everyone else's life. Within the last year, I have seen so many asian food products in every food aisle: Nongshim tonkatsu ramen (yum!), variety of rice, vietnamese pho bowls, ready to make bulgogi in the back near the deli, moon cakes, bibigo frozen potstickers, shrimp rice noodles, Korean bbq jerky... etc. Just top notch cuts of meat, so much so, we online ordered the a5 wagyu Japanese rib eye steaks that was actually MELT IN YOUR MOUTH MEAT CANDY. Aside from that, they carry my favorite SQUISHMALLOWS every season and the toys, seasonal Kirkland assorted cookies in the red tin and my favorite Ferrer rocher. I will forever be an executive member and support Costco. The customer service is efficient and it goes to show the leadership knows what they are doing to keep the business successful. Highly recommend the $120 yearly membership, but if you spend about $600/month every month for a year, your rebate can just be recycled for the next year. read more

Josh, the Costco front desk manager says that they abide by their own COVID-19 guidelines. 1. Their registers are configured where customers's backs are literally touching between two registers. This is NOT even close to being 4ft distancing...maybe 4 inches. 2. At the return area entry door which is wide enough for one person to come in; their employee came up to my face trying to go out of a door designed for entry only. So much for social distancing As a member and customer, I deserve the right to be able to shop without compromising exposure to COVID-19 or its variant. I would like to minimize exposure and they are not even willing to comply with their own guidelines. When I brought it to their managers they got defensive and denied that this is what is going on. Most prices on food are cheaper at Aldi. The pizza in the prepared food section is delicious and very cheap. Gasoline is sold relatively cheap. Just bothers me that I spend $50 a year for a membership and their prices are not overwhelmingly superior to surrounding areas. Also, it is several days before Christmas, and I realize that businesses are busy, but my wife and I walked into the store and purchased the groceries that we needed in under 10 minutes and was out the door. It took us an hour and 15 minutes to get out of the parking lot. An hour and 15 minutes. That is absolutely absurd and I believe to be a hazard if there was ever an emergency. I don't understand how there can only be two in Charlotte and we are a city of over 1 million people. And the Costco here in Matthews, only has two simple entrances. An hour and 15 minutes. I actually had a wonderful day at Costco. There is a reason i give it three stars thought. Half of my review is five stars and half is one star. My five star review is for Ching Ping. She was a super nice lady at the green tea sample area. She was by far the nicest Costco employee I have ever met. She made the green tea stand a more personal experience for me. Now for the bad part. I was with my brother today and we were walking by the gift card palettes. My brother says TO ME "why are these so big and take up so much space?" Seconds after an employee named Marc walks in front of us and says "you wonder why these take up so much space? Let me teach you something about economics." Fearing embarrassment, I walked away while my brother talked to him. He apparently told Marc that he got an "A" in his economics class l, but he still continued to lecture him. He apparently made some analogy with how the soup cans are not as big but the girder card palettes are. All he had to was not eavesdrop on our conversation. See? Problem solved. Marc is unprofessional and needs more training in customer service. read more

I used to love Costco but now I am beginning to have second thoughts. It took me three visits to the wireless center to get a phone for my son and transfer to a new provider. However, this may not be Costco's responsibility. The following is what got my goat. Their in-store management is degrading. Today I found a sign for Serrano Ham in the deli which I got very excited about but we could not find any. I found a store manager who was busy helping someone else so I understand the pressure but there was no greeting me.... just his finger pointing me to come over. He only uttered two sentences and I quote them verbatim: 1) "There should be another manager here" He checked the computer and said 2) "we only have three more of the hams ..... so we have none" At the incredulity of such a statement he had no explanation but to repeat the statement. After I walked away I believe he may have made a mocking statement about me or my request in the audience of another customer. read more

I come here to shop. You know how Costco is. Super Big, small selection, but super cheap for buying in bulk. I come here to shop as a college student, you know buying freezer food and what is "not" healthy to eat. Hey, when I get a big boy job then I'll start buying healthy. However they do have a lot of greens and fruits to buy here and most of the time they're pretty fresh. First time coming here, take your time.. It will take a couple of times coming here to get to know the layout of where everything is at. That's how I was when I first started shopping, utterly lost and don't know where to begin. After a while, I'm in and out. Great discounts and the store is pretty clean. Parking could use more lights and better traffic flow, but I grew up on this side of Charlotte so I'm not so sketchy. I like this Costco more than the one on Tyvola because the customer service here seems a lot nicer than those down in South Charlotte. read more

They dare you to leave without buying a footlong frankfurter and drink at the ridiculous price of a $1.50. Customer service of the cashiers are wishing the best. But not cashiers are not professional but also general manager Jennifer! We opened executive membership out there for my wife only and added my mom because they are the ones who shopping and it was my first and last time that I went there by myself because we have a newborn and my wife couldn't go so I went. After gathering what we need I went to pay but cashier said she couldn't do it and call manager Jennifer, I explained situation about baby, showed my wife's card and my ID with my last name but she totally ignored explanation. This place is busy. Non stop busy. It is close to 485, and in a great area with plently of parking. The store is your typical Costco. Nothing out if the ordinary. My only complaint is the amount of people that come here is crazy. There is no easy in and out. The lines remind me of a Walmart at 7pm on a Saturday where only 4 people showed up to work. However, you can walk away with enough free samples to feed a family of 4. So, 4 stars all day. read more

Quoted tires on Monday $166, stop in on Friday to order the 4 per quote. Not in stock 2 - 5 days, placed the order and found that I was charged $174 each and was told pricing could change in 24 hours? ok? Got the call Friday night that the tires came in? Spoke to John Saturday morning ok to drop off the car for Saturday install. Got the call Saturday afternoon that the tires did not come in. Picked up the car and cancelled the order. Drove the car home, issue with car shaking, they took the tires off along with the balancing weights, took it back for balancing. What a Cluster ! read more

So this Costco is really like all of the others. I've never had any trouble there, buy in bulk, etc. However, I went the other day and felt like I was being assaulted by people trying to sell things! This is not your regular, "eat these delicious samples" selling either, this was "I'm going to shout across the store to tell you about a Direct TV." Awkward, and annoying, and it happened the second that we walked into the store! I brushed it off and figured maybe it was just an excitable Direct TV employee. But then as I was browsing the book/movie aisle this woman walked up to me like she knew me (stranger danger, invading my space) and pushed some beads in my face, trying to sell them. I love free trade. I love the idea of beads giving women a trade that will support their family. I do not like strangers in my personal space. I left Costco, purchased nothing, and felt really disgruntled about the awkward encounters with some of the people trying to sell things. Hopefully it's just a holiday thing, then I can resume my Costco bulk shopping in peace. read more

This is an update of my previous review. A lot of the good things are still there, but after 17 visits and counting, a lot of ugliness has reared its head. While this location doesn't necessary harass customers with some of the merchandise (cell phones, product demonstrations, etc.), they have started aggressively harassing customers about their crappy membership upgrade/reward plan. Having been approached before, I looked into the program and realized that the cost/benefit was simply not there for me. I don't really spend a lot of money at Costco. When I was approached by an employee today, I politely declined the service. This employee continued to badger me and follow me as I waited in line and left the store. It was all I could do not to make a scene in response. Find some better employees, Costco (Marisol is first on the chopping block.), and you might get a star back. read more

What's not to love? We are here EVERY weekend. The parking lot gets full, the place gets crowded, and the buys are great! BUT the lines move quickly so just chill out and people watch as you wait. My only real complaint is the food court, specifically the dining area. It REALLY REALLY needs to be tended to more often. I know that the line is long at the food court counter, but it is extremely important that someone at Costco step up and put more help there to keep the dining area tidy and clean. I've been there when empty tables were a disaster, trash was overflowing, and the counter where condiments are was beyond messy; all of that made it an overall bad experience. Other than that....I've really got no complaints about this Costco. I love it! read more

Hopefully everyone knows what Costco is so I shouldn't have to go into detail about that. My mothers a member so she added me as the other member on the membership. So I went to go pickup my card and boy was that a hassle. They started to tell me that I couldn't be added on it even though it was in their computer saying I could be. They had all the info I needed all I needed to bring was paperwork with the address on the account. Now I live in another state from her but I have stuff mailed to her house so I have all the documentation. Finally after some back and forth I got them to give me a card. Then I went through did my shopping as planned. One thing I didn't care for is there wasn't a great variety of meats/lunch meats. I usually go to Sams Club so they have a huge variety. There produce was ok I've heard it was suppose to be awesome so I loaded up on some of that. I finally get up to the register and get everything ran through. (The lines at the registers are insanely long!) get my total and get ready to swipe my card and the guy tells me they don't take credit cards only American Express. I'm thinking why the hell wouldn't you tell someone this. When I got my card I was told they accept credit, debit, cash and check but NO apparently that wasn't true. So I don't carry cash and I don't carry my debit card as I never use them. So I went back and forth with him for a while but luckily I found my old debit card and got it to work. I got home and tried some of the grapes I got and even though on the outside they looked good when I bit into it, they dissolved in my mouth and were completely molded. I had to grab the whole container and throw it out, as I started finding out 80% of them were like that. Moral to this is I shall Stick to Sams Club as the variety is whatever, and the explanation of the policies and the way the store is ran sucks! read more

Costco is getting more and more organic food, including fresh produce! Most of it is still conventional and likely GMOs, but there are changes here and there. Usually there are great samples- free lobster dip! But they've had chocolate cake, pot stickers, and pomegranate juice too. If you time it just right, it's lunch. I had a bit of difficulty with their pharmacy this past winter. They had to order my prescription. No problem. But it was not in when they told me it would be the next day, or the next day. Just when I had given up hope, it did arrive. But it seemed a bit disorganized. I've had passport photos taken here- can't beat the price. Don't try to smile though. Not permitted. Something about Homeland... ??? CVS just a few months prior did let me smile. read more

You can get some good bargains at Cosco.... however, they could use some serious training in customer relations. Costco makes their customers wait in line to get out of the store. They have an employee parked at the exit to examine everyone's cart against their sales receipt to make sure no one stole anything from the cash register to the exit door. Mind you, there's no merchandise on display from the cash register to the exit door!!!! This process makes the customer feel like they're not trustworthy and maybe even a convict! Perhaps posting video cameras from the cashier to the exit door would be a good idea! That way you could put an employee at the exit door that GREETS the customer warmly and says " Thank you for your business! Have a nice day!" read more

Creatures of Habit, rejoice for there is Costco! Do you need a constant supply of chicken nuggets, giant fish sticks, vitamin water, muffins, B12, or enough vanilla extract to last you the next decade? Well you can get all of it down at the Matthews Costco. Not only that, but you can sample 5 or 10 other things that you might want to buy on any given visit. Now that describes any Costco, but the pluses of this particular one include, very fresh tasting fish (try the stuffed salmon), sufficient staffing so you aren't spending all day in the checkout line, a super helpful tire department and consistently available/restocked selection. It may seem silly but I am also a fan of how thye are diligent about rotating their endcaps to be seasonably applicable. Two weeks before Christmas that 16oz bottle of vanilla was not burried halfway down the aisle, it was staring me in the face. The parking lot is a bit of a disaster but I think that is more a result of the shopping plaza as a whole as opposed to the store. read more

Costco is good for food if you want or need to stock up, as you have to buy in bulk. They have clothes, household goods, electronics at competitive prices. However, you may get a better real elsewhere on sale. Have pharmacy, optical, tire service. You can also book vacations through Costco online and even buy a new car, boat, Rv, or motorcycle through Costco at a savings. Home improvement projects can be done through Costco contracted services at a savings. Costco can save you money of you know how to get the most out of your membership. read more

I enjoy going to Costo-just don't enjoy the long check out lines. It's always a madhouse when it comes time to pay for your items. Some of the produce is AWESOME (like the "live" lettuce packs, the strawberries, cherries, etc.), while some of it I'm not so crazy about (the bagged apples, oranges/lemons/limes, etc.)... there is usually a bad one or some that were picked way too early in the bags. Love the deals on boxed/canned goods, as well as the meat department! Love getting beef and pork here-it's a steal! CHEAP to eat if you want a quick, greasy bite at the food court. I think by now everyone knows the drill. Massive amounts of stuff for a better price than if you were to buy in smaller quantities elsewhere. Of all of the warehouse clubs I would have to say that Costco is our preference. It just seems cleaner and better lit than the others. One trend that is starting to bum us out is the way that Costco is replacing more and more of the brand names with their own "Kirkland" brand. We avoid the produce. While the deals are plentiful, the fruit and veggies seem to be past their prime before they even leave the store. We would like to see better options in the meat department (organic, grass fed / finished meats, local suppliers, etc). read more

We love Costco and have always had wonderful but yesterday was awful the way the cashier treated us. His name was Destuis and he never once acknowledge us . We both are in costumer service and have been for over 20 years so I can tell you now this kid was awful in the way he treated us. Was talking to a co-worker about how awful Costco is to work for like this is something your members need to hear. I hope someone talks to this young man. My husband and I have always been to this Costco but this time we went, the cashier we had was extremely rude and hostile. My husband had his own membership before we got married (mine is with my mom). Last time we went, we used my Costco card because his has already expired. We tried paying with my credit card but Costco doesn't take Mastercard, so I asked if I could use my husband's credit card who was standing right there (we were literally begging him and explaining that we had a joint debit but it just happened to not have any money in there at that time). Cashier was like:" YOU have to pay, you can't use your husband's . You two are married, how are you not having money in the joint account" and went on to tell us how we should manage our finance, which is NONE of his business. Luckily the manager stepped in and saved us from this hostile person. read more

It's a tough call between 4 and 5 stars for this Costco. Plus: - I always am able to find good parking for some reason. That usually doesn't happen at Costcos! (Costcoes? Potato/tomato?) - They're always well-stocked. If you can't find something at the Tryon Costco, try this one. This has happened twice now in 3 months. Why I bother with the other one anymore, I'm not sure. - Optical dept is super friendly. They fixed my not-from-Costco-glasses when the lens kept trying to commit suicide. Cons: - The food thing (what do you call it?) is inside and lining up is difficult when you're by yourself. There's no space for your cart, so you have to leave it somewhere and hope nobody is feeling like a thief that day. - Also @ The Food Thing, the condiments are almost always empty. While I stood by once waiting for a pizza, three people came up and reported the ketchup was empty. Later, when I was grabbing some napkins and things, I noticed that the worker finally put ketchup out, but only filled it halfway, and only filled one of the two dispensers. It was like mid-afternoon, so I don't know why they're making life harder on themselves. Whatever, it's Costco. I will love it forever. read more

I finally got around to renewing my Costco membership and went today for the first time in a long time. I had forgotten how much I love the selection of items at Costco. $5.99 lb for organic chicken breast, versus $8.99 lb at HT! Wow! Great deals on all natural laundry detergent & all natural dish detergent too! The only negative for me that there is no Costco in the Ballantyne area... but I love it so much that I will just have to leave "the bubble" to make the trek to Costco. Oh, and I just ordered an item at costco.com and the price listed online included shipping so I can get some items delivered straight to my front-door. (Great for lazy people like me.) read more

This is a review of the company as whole not the individual location. Although I love shopping at Costco, I ordered something and they charged me shipping to pick it up at this location. First most retail stores do not charge any shipping on orders over $50 to your home, but never charge shipping to pick up at a store location. I found this ridiculous. I think they should pay me back the shipping fee and change their policy to free pick up at the store location. read more
