The Unspoken Appreciate that they let me wander around a bunch & didn't try to force a sale. But they did help me select just what I needed for my dogs. Found some unique items there too. Just found out they let go of a few good employees especially 2 that had been they for many years to go in a different direction. The reason I shopped there was for the employees and there knowledge of the business. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Very poor business decision. read more

This is saddening to say because this is the place I have shopped at for all our pet needs over the past 7 years but you have officially lost my business.. to know that you are moving in a "different direction" and letting go of the employees who have been there 10+ years to go to a more corporate business model is disheartening... The reasons I shopped there was because of the "family" dynamic and compationate feel I received walking through the door, not to mention the knowledge the employees had from working there for so long. And then to have the audacity to come in and fire another employee infront of your new "manager" and then ask said fired employee to stay and train the new manager??? What were you thinking?? I had to write a review because there probably isn't another business in Matthews (any business) that has such amazing customer service! Someone tell me I am wrong :). Every staff person I have interacted with has been so nice and helpful. It looks a little rough from the outside and definitely use the entrance off of Moore Road but their selection is amazing and their prices are even better. Visiting this place is like going back in time. I only shop here a couple times a year when I refill my propane tanks, but it is worth it as they fill them completely full for about $18. Most people do not realize that the pre-filled tanks purchased at grocery stores are only about 3/4 full. While here, I also enjoy the critters especially the feisty parrot. For first time chicken buyers, my husband and I were nervous. We went to this feed store and most of our fears were settled. The employees are super kind, friendly, and helpful! They have everything in there, except animals. However, they have a bulletin board for neighbors to put info on selling stock. We were pleased to see that we could buy chicken feed and our dog food all in one place! They sell regular food and holistic/organic options. Bonus, if you live where deer come around, they have bags of corn. Yes, it's beginning to be like a petting zoo around my house. I found the store itself very well stocked and organized. In fact, it was really clean. I wish it was closer to where I live because I would make frequent stops for all my animal food needs. I'm so glad we discovered this hidden gem of a pet food store. They carry (better) brands of pet foods than the major pet food supply stores (Petsmart, Petco, Pet Supermarket) offer, and they also have a better variety of options. We go out of our way to stock up on healthier, "Made in the USA" pet food for our dogs at very reasonable prices. On our first trip, our GPS brought us to a parking lot behind the store that I think is mainly for farmers, etc. who buy "feed" in bulk. However, there's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it entrance off Independence Blvd through a seen-better-days road/parking lot. The store is clean and neat and every item always seems fully stocked. The employees are plentiful, friendly, and helpful. This is our go-to pet store. read more

Stumbled in here one day after hearing that they carry Zignature dog food and have good prices on it. We had no idea that they carry a variety of pet food that the chain stores don't. They have more variety of Taste of the Wild food than Petco. Their prices are much better than other pet food stores. They carry a lot of Stella and Chewys as well. The staff were friendly and helpful. We are saying goodbye to the chain stores and giving our business to the local feed store from now on! read more

This is our go to spot for all our pet supplies. They have the best prices on horse, dog, bird, bunny and cavy supplies! Stop by and see their gorgeous parrot collection, too! They will custom order just about any supply you need if they don't have it--in 8 years we've only needed one thing they didn't stock! The owners, Tommy and Cookie, are as nice as can be and their son is usually on hand to help load the heavy bags in your vehicle. Outstanding selection, priced right, and fabulous staff. I get everything for my mini farm here. Organic Chicken feed is a mega plus for me. No where else in a 50 mile radius from me has it. After my cross country moved from the Portland area to Matthews I couldn't find my dog food anywhere! My pug went on hunger strike, when I did find a food he would eat he started itching all over and had an allergic reaction to new food, ack. I had to start ordering the food online. The online source stopped carrying his food too. It's been crazy to tract down a 20 ish lb bag of lamb and rice by NurtraSource. Matt not only tracked down my dog's food but also special ordered me a bag AND delivered it to me without charging extra. Pros- pretty good selection of natural foods and reasonable prices, the owners are usually helpful and always offer to carry bags. Cons- they sell expired food , even have a clearance section with food/treats that are over a year old! and they are still trying to make money off it. Please be careful, it can make your pet very ill. They also don't seem to do any cleaning, a lot of dust, dirt and cat hair. read more

We stumbled across this store when looking for a particular brand of cat food (Evo) because of issues our cats were having with Purina. Also, discovered a brand of litter that is better than the Purina band from a major box retailer. This is a family owned store. The people are friendly, helpful, and their prices are competitive when compared what we could order over the Internet. They are animal people and are involved in rescue - they have two feral cats that own the place and keep any rodent issues in check. Cats, while feral, are very friendly and you would never know they are feral. Good folks. Someone complained about conditions in the store - it's a feed store for crying out loud - not a hospital. It's clean, period. As for out of date food, it's up to consumers to check what they buy. If someone points out expired food, the owners will take note, but if food is canned, the expiration date is a suggestion and will be good for long after the expiration date.
